Got a hankering to assemble some plastic today and thought I'd make a bit of a project out of it. Pulled out my set of Rollin Blacks Wild Ones (Plus Miss Fire and Miss Ann Thrope who share their "punk" aesthetic), supposedly one of the harder Malifaux kits to assemble, hopefully I'm up to the challenge! That's a lot of bits for a few minis... I managed to completely assemble Iggy Pup. Made a decent start on Elli Ramone and her mono-wheel. The big exhausts on the engine on the far right didn't want to fit until I gave them a decent shave down, and the tiny exhausts on the middle engine are a bit wonky because I didn't realise each side was slightly different until it was too late. And built the wheels of Rollins motorbike, the back wheel is 3 pieces while the front has 5. I was getting tired eyes by this point, so I'll do a bit more tomorrow.

So, in order to avoid painting any more of my Teal Space Marines and at the same time have a force I could use to try and sell the idea of playing Grimdark Future to my 40k playing friends, I had the idea of adding some 40k tanks to my Ethiopians to make a Human Defense Force (aka Imperial Guard). The force list could handle the infantry from the conscripts in traditional dress to the Imperial Guard so it seemed like a good fit. But then I had what I think is a much better idea which is to use nothing but walkers and combine them with the largely peasant based agriculture of mid 20th century Ethiopia to make a skewed version of a Jakub Rozalski scene. Something like this but set in Ethiopia In short, I ordered too many models from Warlord's Konfliks 47 and Dust Tactics along with some flying transports from Mantic's Warpath line. About half have arrived and I've assembled a couple and threw them on the table to make a scene that will hopefully motivate me to get this project going in a big way. Jetpacks! The dieselpunk / pulp accessory every high-flying hero needs! The beautifully retro twin-turbine jetpacks from Bombshell are gorgeous and also come in a pack of five for less than the cost of one of their regular Babes or Counterblast crew. That's the sort of savings I can get behind! And now those same savings are getting behind my aeronautically-inclined pulp miniatures, where the posture permits. First up is 50107, Afterburn. I made him a pulp-era Iron Man type, but of course repulsor technology was not as developed back in the '30s as it was in the 21st century. Solution: Jetpack. The vivid colors are great, but there's something to be said for classic unadorned silver as well. And my Zeppelin crew needed an upgrade as well as a good dose of wash for their uniforms. I made sure that this jetpack on Dieter used blue-green Mad Science rather than flames, as traditional fossil-fuel jets don't play nicely with dirigibles. Artizan has a good selection of Sky Pirates which I augmented with judiciously-chosen Reaper figures, but--shockingly!--no personal propulsion devices. I figured any jetpacks they would have would be second-hand at best, so this Sky Pirate gets a rusted, battered version. And we'll finish with 50158, Grant Dylan. Not quite Iron-Man red and gold, but a good bronze-and-copper tone works for this flying ace. NOTE TO IMPRESSIONABLE READERS: Grant Dylan is a *professional.* Wearing a scarf as well as a jetpack is STRONGLY contraindicated for amateurs and dilettantes. And that still leaves us with another pack for future use! Keep watching the skies, cadets!
