I love taking pics of minis from multiple angles, but the adjust-aim-shoot cycle gets tiring. A cheap fidget spinner seems like a good start, but of course the center doesn't rotate --that's the point! But if you have some reliably even hemispheres that you can put in the peripheral holes, you can raise a platform above the central bearing holder. I used googly eyes for mine but there are other solutions. A 75mm or 3in base makes a good platform. VID_20230904_221910317.mp4 And voilà!

Hello everyone! Here are some pictures of weapon displays I made. I used Inventor and Blender to design and texture these tables and display, and printed them with my Elegoo printer. The weapons are from Reaper Miniatures packs 2 and 3.

I decided to build some shelf organizers because real ones are $$$$ expensive. Hopefully getting stuff out of the way will allow for things to be out of the way of little grasping hands. Pics later. This one is for my terrain boards

While fixing up the hobby room for the fiancee we came across the age old problem of Not Enough Places to Put Things. She likes to do acrylic canvas painting and I like to use the craft paints for terrain so we have a bit. We both like seeing what colors we have available as we work on a project and I wanted something that wouldn't clutter the work table or take up valuable shelf space. We've got several big windows in the room and while the natural light is great, the limit the amount of shelves we can have. I opped to try and make use of some of the dead space created by the window frames. 1-1/2" standard Schedule 40 PVC pipe fits the standard 2oz bottles well. I used a band saw to cut the pieces quickly. I used a fence to make sure all the pieces came out the same length. (marking it out >150 times would have been a pain) While quick, my saw left some debris. A quick twist with some 60 grit sandpaper took it right off and put a very slight bevel on the edge. All sanded and ready to go. Did a quick test fit with a bottle of paint and tried a few layout options. My goal was to fill the trim board on either side of the windows with storage tubes. Since we may sell the house some day I didn't want to mount the tubes direct to the trim. I opted to attach the tubes together, letting most of the weight sit on the table and then use a small metal bracket in the top side of the window trim which is often unpainted because nobody looks up there. I wanted something that I could pop off easily if I got sloppy with with the glue so I laid everything out on a piece of concrete board siding. It had the added featured of it was flat, had a straight edge I could line the pieces up on and I could draw out my trim dimensions so I knew what area I had to fill. I used the same glue that is used to glue the pipe together for plumbing. The stuff I get for work happens to be grey. You get what you pay for when it comes to glue so don't scrimp.Just don't get the stuff that is for wet or submerged pipe. It will literally push your parts around. Since I knew we were going to paint the whole thing I didn't care what color I had or if the printing on the pipe was visible. I made marks with a sharpie to show where the pieces touched so I'd know where to apply the glue once I picked it up. It also made sure I had the glue covered portion in the right spot when I put it in place. Got all my ducks lined up, Just gotta let it dry over night. I could actually pick it up after an hour but I wanted to give it plenty of time to fully set up. I ended up adding one more row after this picture to get it close to the top of the window trim. After everything was painted I screwed a small strip of metal to the top to let me screw it to the trim. If you look at the top of the center organizer, you can see the metal bracket. It is bent in an L shape so the screw is in the top of the trim, not the front. The larger units are done with 4" drain pipe (Thinner wall=cheaper per foot) One coat of glue made them stick together but I had to do several more coats to get some structural rigidity. I just used standard pray paint to cover them.

I know about the craft article on filling a bucket with sand and spraying foam in the space carved out. I don't have a ton of time so didn't do that. I DID take a few sheets of parchment paper, a few sections of plastic fruit containers lined with parchment paper, and sprayed a can's worth of expanding insulation foam to make some hills. Because of needing to get by with a stroller, foam was packed up after an hour to continue curing. In a few days I'll seal with brown craft paint and modgepodge, then experiment with flocking.

So for awhile now I've had this goal, nay, this desire, nay, this primal compulsion to build a boat. It is not enough to have hand drawn maps, or 2D terrain tiles. I need a fully functioning 3D boat! Well, maybe not fully functioning. But I want to build a cool boat! I've been working on a nautical campaign full of swashbuckling, sailing, and sea monsters for a few years now. It's my White Whale project. Always just on the horizon. It'll happen some day, but in the meantime, I have a million small projects to complete and extend the chase. One of which is my desire to build a few different sized ships to enliven any possible naval combat. I actually attempted this about two years ago, just winging it and making some measurements and throwing them at some craft supplies. I wanted a cheap option that wasn't too difficult to repeat that way I wouldn't be discouraged from making multiple ships. So I limited it to cheap crafting materials like foamcore, wooden dials, popsicle sticks, and thumbtacks. And the result wasn't bad. Especially for my first attempt at any kind of terrain building. It actually turned out rather nice! To my surprise. But I got hung up on mast and sail designs and never finished. The wood on the deck had 2x1in grid carved into it for easier D&D use. and the figurehead was designed to be modular. However, overtime the boat collected dust and little scratches. I should have given it a coat of mod podge or sealant of some kind, but never did. And eventually it had an unfortunate run in with an injured owl that we took in for a night. Here's the little devil himself. Anyways, I put this project on the back burner for long enough and feel inspired to dive back in. Especially with a certain Bones ship on the Horizon that I'm still on the fence about getting. I was doing some browsing on the web and recently found this wonderful little blog complete with loose instructions and a plan from a now defunct wargamming site. The blog creator had found the old plan and adapted it to build something using most of the same materials I have already stockpiled. There's a few choices that I like better than my first attempt so I think I'm going to use this as some inspiration as I give this boat thing another go. My hold up now is still those darn masts. The original plan above used wood and required drilling out holes for the masts. The blogger use foam for his ship and found random bits of tubing to house his masts. I could try to find something random like that, but I was hoping to find something simpler for easy repetition. And I would also like to keep the masts loose so they can be removed for easy storage, or to swap out the sails. Any thoughts? Any resources, tips, recommendations are very welcome! I'll post back here with any updates.

Ok, so next week I'm gonna be replacing the LCD in my printer finally, but I'm also gonna replace the noisy fan on the very bottom of the printer. I finally found a good shot of the guts from the bottom: Now the fan I ordered a few months ago is definitely not the one I need as it's one of the filter fans. So I'm gonna have to order a fan this week. That is why I'm posting here. What fan is good for this? I've read where someone has modded theirs to run a 120mm fan, I just wanna do a direct replacement of it. One caution I have is the connections. Does the fan just clip into one of the white connectors or is it one that the wires go into the posts that screw down (like on a Ender 3)? Funny how now I find this site vs trying to find anything these past few months: (note the fan wire, it clips into one of the white connectors (yeah!!) Any help will be appreciated for this.

How do you make an octopus laugh? You give him ten tickles! Wanted to show off this little octopus that I sculpted from some leftover green stuff. I don't have much experience with sculpting other than a few simple embellishments on minis and a couple of snake swarms I made once. Wanted to try something relatively simple and figured an octopus would be pretty forgiving. You can see more about how I made this guy and more of my nautical minis in my Dark Tide WIP thread HERE. I sculpted and painted this guy in two evenings and am happy with hos cute it turned out. It's not the most accurate, but I'm proud of it. Greetings all! I had a fun idea for a mini that I need for an upcoming game, so I decided to DIY it. So this will be my DIY Ochre Jellies I’m using white gorilla glue, the kind that foams up, and a bent safety pin. As it begins to dry I moved the “blob” up along the pin to gain some vertical height. The white will be an ok under coating, and I’ll paint it up tomorrow once it finishes drying. I’ll snip the end of the safety pin off before painting too.

I'm not really sure when I'll get to these, but I found a bunch of cheap sheets that I'm going to diy into mats for wargaming. As it is, they're fine (I got green, blue, and brown, and passed on a grey) . But I might sponge on some various paints for waves/ ice (double sided blue sheet) and various greens for the green sheet.

So I've seen a bunch of people using "big bucket of monsters" toys for dnd and I decided to try it too. Did this guy in under an hour while watching tv, super relaxing! Will use him as a wacky cyclops in my campaign

Hello everyone, I plan on crafting some blights out of polymer clay. Today I made the armatures out of copper wire and glue and pined them to some old 20mm bases. I plan on using fimo air polymer clay, decorative sand (maybe some rocks too), and a variety of dried tea leaves and spices. Then I will prime them using cheap spray paint and paint them using cheap acrylic paint. I hope they turn out nice. All kinds of tips, suggestion or criticism are welcome :D

Hi everyone, just wanted to share this Bigby's Hand spell effect mini I made. It is made of Fimo air dry clay and took me about 30 minutes painting included. I was inspired by D&D Icons of the Realms Spell Effects – Arcane Fury & Divine Might miniatures and diceded to try and make one of my own :D

At my friendly national chain home improvement store I found they sell mismixed paint colors at deep discounts. There I bought a 8 oz.(237 ml) sample pot of premium interior/exterior flat "paint and primer in one" for 50 cents. So I'm experimenting with using it as a primer for Bones. I will report on how it goes. In the meantime, feel free to discuss your budget alternatives.

I'm making some wreckage counters for ship battles. I have a scenario in mind where the heroes have to pick up survivors from a shipwreck. There may or may not be a giant squid involved...

I will be building 2 custom 12*9*1 foam storage trays for my metal minis, using foam, felt, foamcore. Yesterday I applied felt to the first side of the foamcore base. Today I will apply felt to the other side. This will give a sturdy base and something soft for the minis to rest on. Second side is so that I can layer them and worry less about scratching. Total cost materials glue, 5$ foam, 1$ felt, 1$ foamcore. Bonus, I have trays that will fit in my fancy Muji storage boxes. Photos later.

So I am going to enter some minis in the painting contest, and thought I might put one on a plinth... I stopped at Micheal's on the way home, and picked up some stuff, but wonder what others would think... I bought a 2" cube, a 4" square, and a 4" round. My thought is to mount the cube centered on either the square, or the round, sand everything up nice, and stain it with Minwax Ebony 2718 penetrating Stain. The round: Now when I showed this to the spawn and soon to be ex, they asked how I was going to do it... Parallel: Or Catty corner: Or should I just use the cube? I plan on a plaque with the title of the piece on the front of the cube.... A rare earth magnet will secure the mini to the plinth, for ease of transport. Thanks for your thoughts! Hi folks, Decided to take a break from CAVs and make some treasure tokens after seeing a tutorial I on here. Although I cannot find where the original tutorial is now (edit: you can find it here http://http://www.reapermini.com/TheCraft/33). These two took two hours for my fiance and I to make. I'm generally happy with how they came out, although the one lesson that I learned is that you need to make anything that sits with the gold very, very bright. When I painted the gemstones and the weapons I thought at first that they would look too ostentatious, but after adding the gold they kind of get drowned out. I also need to add another layer of dark wash to highlight the difference between the coins. But this was a fun project and I can see myself making more in the future. C&C always welcome!
