  1. It's 2023, and if it's not THE FUTURE yet, when will it be? Meet the Family of Tomorrow, the Rocketsons! From Solar Studios, c/o Hydra Miniatures. Hard-working family man and sprocket engineer Rod Rocketson, at his office (he's there three days a week, a real go-getter) His vivacious daughter Rita with a futuristic device that both acts as a camera and radio at once, His genius son Elwood, on his way home from school, and his lovely wife Renata, seen here organizing the house with the help of a robot servant. (Bombshell's HLpR modified lightly with a GW Ork wrench clamp) (The table/chairs, washing machine, and Screen-O-Tron are from Bombshell's Galley/Rest area set. Rod's desk is from Crooked Dice. ) Together, they are a nuclear family for the atomic age! Wishing you all the best in this futuristic year!
  2. About what it says in the title. Junk to jewels! Took some little gumball-machine toy dispenser bubbles, some scrap bits, and some GW Bitz that my friendly l.g.s let me fish out of the Sprue Heap. The goal was to make some baroque domed aquaria in the steampunk and dieselpunk line--the sort you might see in a Hellboy comic or Victorian science fiction. One is good, but now I've got the urge to make more! This one used a Reaper base and a Wizkids base to make the stand. Some Ork canisters provided plumbing: They would be good museum pieces, space characters, or simply curiosities in The Fisherman's Rest: Next up: Bombshell brains and craft-store jewelry domes, plus a dollhouse candlestick and the Bitz to make a brain-in-a-jar!
  3. I have painted up the Nativity Set as a gift for my girlfriend's parents. They will get it close to the holidays. I added the sheperd with sheep, the donkey and a cow. All Reaper miniatures: https://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/nativity/latest/01430 https://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/nativity/latest/01433 https://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/nativity/latest/01439 https://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/cow/sku-down/03719 I put the whole set under a dome. And made some barn soil with putty. WIP here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/69198-nativity-scene-as-a-gift-by-xherman1964/ Only after all was glued together I noticed a small bit of yellow brown on the sheperd's clothing, oh well, let's assume he got a bit dirty dealing with the animals... I hope they will like the gift..
  4. I want to give my girlfriend's parents a little gift this X-mas ( well a bit before that). So I decided to make a little vignette of the Nativity Set. I found this nice dome for 5 euros.. I had to skip the idea of the three Kings. But my girl explained to me that they visited later, so it wouldn't be a problem to just use the Nativity set itself, a sheperd and a few animals. Else it would get too crowded on the little wooden plate. The Donkey and Oxen are supposed to keep Baby Jesus warm with their breath. So that's why they stand so close. The Cow will be mutilated converted into an Oxen. Here is the set up. I might have to move them a little more forward to close the gap. **** But Herman December is a long time away! Why start now?**** *** Have you noticed how slow I paint?***
  5. I drilled a hole in a 10x10mm piece of wood. I used first a 5.5mm drill, but needed to make it bigger, I'm not sure if I used a 6.0mm or 6.5mm drill. You can put a dome in the hole and use the wood on sand paper. Don't use to much pressure on it! The piece of wood should not touch the sandpaper! You must end with it before it the sandpaper touch the wood! Check sometimes if you are satisfied with the size before it is to short! On the backside is a small hole to remove the dome. Do not use something to pointy. :-)
  6. In a few weeks many Mars Attacks backers will get the crashed Saucer. Big problem! The dome is not not clear plastic, so the inside is not visible. I'm and many others are not really good at painting freehand. So how to paint it? I do not want to paint it in any color, it should be clear. Interesting ideas from the Kickstarter comments: 1. Wulf: "Do the crashed saucer dome in white with crackle glaze, it'll look like shattered perspex." 2. Undave: "You could always paint the crashed saucer dome to look like exploded Martian and then give it a heavy gloss varnish." 3. Another idea would be to combine method one and two. 4. My first idea was to get somehow Mantic to sell only a clear saucer dome, remove the unclear dome from the crashed saucer, put a black cotton wool in the clear dome to simulate smoke in it and glue it on the saucer and let some smoke coming out of the saucer (Ok, the clear dome must have the same size for this method!) 5. Another idea would be to remove the dome and try to put only smoke cloud on the saucer. I hope that someone could help with - ideas how to do it, - provide pictures of painted versions here of the painted dome - or even better give also a tutorial how to to it. Truck-Windows As Darsc Zacal mentioned, with the trucks we have the same problems with the windows! About the trucks I got a cool advise from SKRHH in the comments from Brückenkopf-Online. Don't paint the windows, put selfmade armor plates on them. With small observation slits. For the weldseam, you could use a small hot glue gun. It is not so hard to do it. Example: (I got this picture from this site.)
