  1. Hello All, Here is a 44145 Dragonfolk: Bard I completed a few weeks ago. Thank you for looking.
  2. This one's not a bad sculpt for what he is (though, I wish they'd sculpted in his right foot...makes him look bizarre at certain angles).
  3. So this is my take at painting Na'Kaat My firend uses this mini as a pc in our dnd campaign. The axe that comes with the mini felt too small to her so I swapped it with the two handed axe from 03197: Thelgar Halfblood, Half Orc Barbarian. All in all this was one was nice to paint and is really nice to look at after Hope you like it too!
  4. This is my second entry into the Reaper Facebook Convert and Paint contest. I wanted to do this one because I love doing dragonman (dragonborn) conversions. There just aren't enough kinds of dragonmen to model for various character classes. And I'm glad that the catfolk minis came out within the last year because when I think about dragonmen, I like to see their clawed hands and feet, so it makes them great for such a conversion in my eyes. These were the minis used for parts, including pieces from the dragonman conversion kit: 03457. Poor Shadoweyes got her head and tail cut off. Then I had to do some filing and filling to smooth out the cuts (particularly in the back because the tail was sculpted against the backs of the right leg and sword) and some of the fur pattern on her arms and legs. Also had to create small bit armor at the base of the tail so the pieces flowed together well. All Captain Razig lost was his hat and added a head and tail from the conversion kit. Originally, she was going to be green with dark purple/red armor. But after I got the original base coats on, I felt she looked too much like a lizard and not a dragon, so I switched it up. She ended up being the winner. I was shocked. I figured I might place, but pretty as she is, I didn't think this was one of my better pieces. But she was fun to do and I'm glad the Reaper folks put together this event. And now, because I still feel bad about chopping off Shadoweyes' head, I'm using a portion of the winnings to buy another one to paint!
  5. Here are a pair of Dragonborn I've painted up for my DND game. 77060: Dragonman Warrior is a cleric in my game for a good deity; used the Bones 3 weapons to do a weapon swap for a mace and then snipped off a pair of sharp corners from the removed sword to give the mace a pair of sharp prongs along the top. 77214: Kar Drakir is the arch nemesis of the cleric above; his mace has the soul of a trapped vampire lord contained within the wood used for the head of the weapon and literally drains the life from characters to then perform special abilities (mimicking a vampire lord's abilities). The mace is another weapon swap from the Bones 3 weapons. I also took the top off of one of the items in the sprue and attached it to the shield; I have yet to determine the abilities of his magical shield; any suggestions other than insta-death are welcome The base for Kar Drakir is a Stones base from Frontline Games.
  6. Next up in the series of minis I painted for my gaming friends' birthdays: A Copper Dragonborn Druid. Really digging the way his green robes look next to the glistening copper scales! Also, used the NMM Copper Verdigris paint for his eyes.
  7. I whipped this guy up on Heroforge, modded, printed, and painted him today. I had been looking for a good dragonborn/dragonman/reptus/etc but have been left wanting. This guy is a silver dragonborn cleric, death domain, follower of Tiamat (I know, non-chromatic) for a 5E campaign. I'm happy with how he turned out considering I was shooting for table quality.
  8. Hi Guys, This one took a little while but I had a lot of fun doing it. The original mini had the figure standing on its tail awkwardly so that it was positioned mid air. I decided to make a base for it so that it wouldn't look like it was using its tail to do a jump attack. The column that the figure is standing on is made of an eraser. I used a knife to cut it into a basic rectangular prism shape. I then sliced off the corners at a 45 degree angle and glued them back onto the prism so that it made a column shape. I then proceeded use a scalpel to cut out the groves in the column to give it that damaged look. Cutting the final column shape on an angle so that when it was stuck down, it was slanted. The debris on the bottom is made of leftover eraser cut offs and coffee grain while the base is made of 2 washers. I let that set for a day before glueing the figure onto it. I went for a green and yellow colour palette for the figure. Starting with a dark green base, I moved onto a bright green mid tone and finished with a yellow highlight. Part of me is actually wondering if this worked out well as I am actually colour blind to certain shades of yellow and lighter greens. With the wings, I tried painting a spotted pattern to try and replicate that you see on lizards in my area. I made the outer part of the wing darker than the inside to try and draw attention to the front of the figure. I also tried to paint in an artificial metallic shine on the spear head. This was hard but I'm happy with the result. Let me know what you think guys. Happy to listen to any feedback. - Level1painter
  9. Just a few figures from the latest wave of Wizkid's Dungeons & Dragons: Nolzur's Marvelous Miniatures line. I think the line has improved a lot. For whatever reason, my phone didn't want to focus on the thin Dragonborn faces. The only non-Dragonborn in the crew, a "Female Dwarf Barbarian". She seems a bit heavily armored for that role to me, but I was impressed with her design from the first render preview.
  10. So, I got SGHawkins for my Secret Sophie. She said she would be starting Curse of Strahd soon, so I made Strahd... Happy Vampire is Happy! Also, i did a couple "Spell Effects" like this Dancing Magma Sword! And a pair of the new WizKids unpainted minis. I chose the Dragonborn female Fighters set because Dragonborn are hard to find equivilents for outside the official minis and I wanted to try out painting a few of them for future referance. I really like the effect I made with the first's Fire Sword. The mini's Fire sword is made from clear plastic so I used Tamiya Clear "Paint" to shade it and a little bit of Sword steel paint to make it look like the sword is on fire but that it still is metal underneeth. The second Dragonborn was a challenge from SGHawkins to "Try something new" so, I tried Non-Metalic Metal! I used the Copper/Bronze triad from the Bones 3 Kickstarter to attempt it. It came out okay I think, but I can do better in the future. Also, had fun with the Fire and Ice Axes. SGHawkins, please post pictures of the items I included too. i did not get to take any pictures of the gifts as I was ill until yesterday evening. GF
  11. So, one of my personal mini projects atm is working on some of the NPCs my players in my homebrew campaign are encountering. And one of my favorite groups in that world are the Hunts - a loose-bound organization of groups (each called a Hunt) of fighters/mercenaries/warriors, each with their own specialty, who dedicated themselves to maintaining the roads and paths of Fidel during the millenia-long anarchy of the Mortal Wars. Now, what makes the Hunts distinctive from any other mercenary bands? Well, they ride BADASS FLYING MOUNTS. Gryphons, for the most part, although one or two specialize in pegasi, and a few ride more esoteric things... Four NPCs intimately intertwined with the group are members of the Red Hunt - a sort of catch-all for powerful, destructive mages. Faukner, her apprentices Formel and Tiercel, and her wife, Charr. So, I've had the Stonehaven Half-Dragon Duelist for ages. It's one of my favorite dragonborn minis, and I decided it'd be perfect for the swashbuckling Charr... It's a great mini, neat and clean with tons of personality. To give you an idea of who Charr is... Anyways, I've decided to do a WIP of this set of minis, starting with Charr's two forms. This is the thread for her humanoid form, obviously - I'm painting up the Temple Dragon for her dragonness form, and I'll try to do a WIP for that, too. So! I started off nice and simple - hit the face with some red, and decided on a blue-and-white scheme for the cloths. I'm trying to bring out some of the swashbuckler in this mini, so I like the naval colors. That said, I could use ideas for the cravat. Ordinarily, I'd paint my dragonborn's hair simularly to her scales and try to ignore it, but gonna go with dark for these dreads. They're sweet as hell. Wish DSM would give us a KS for these. And there's the face, pretty much finished, TBH! I washed it with Games Workshop's purple wash, pretty heavily so it'd sit well in the mouth and scale cracks, and then highlighted just with pure red. This is a proof-of-concept for the temple dragon, as well as a mini on it's own, and I'm pretty happy with it! Used Palimimo Gold for the eyes - something else that'll carry over!
  12. Here is my newest D&D character. There are very few Dragonborn minis so i had to work with what I found. This is Khalla the dragonborn bard. I think I may have a problem with choosing high charisma classes...
  13. I did a quick conversion for a player in an RPG game I am running. He wanted to play a Dragonborn paladin, and this was the closest mini to what he wanted. Before I painted it, I decided it needed the weapon swaps to match the character load-out and I also added on some plates to give him platemail. Fairly rough sculpting on my part, if you want to convert this guy, I recommend cutting off the arms at the shoulder-pads to give to access to do a good job. Anyhow, used green to highlight the black and spent only a couple hours painting him up. As he isn't sealed, it looks like a bit of paint rubbed off. I also added in the rest of the party as I know he is quite big and I haven't seen many scale comparisons. Any feedback appreciated. Looking at the big pictures I see I need to do a lot of touch-ups on the tabard, I really just mailed it in at that point.
  14. Here is the Dragonborn Sorceress from Oathsworn Miniatures for "Heroines in Sensible Shoes" Kickstarter as Mutilated, I mean Painted by me. I tried to make a kind of Burn Scar Effect and Failed dismally I admit. I do like how the Torch Flame came out though. And now that I think on it, I should have posted this in the Work in Progress section, too. GF
  15. Preparing for the Isle of Dread, I painted up a selection of Lizard Guys! A bunch are from Reaper, there's some Warhammer Lizardmen, and even Wrong-Eye from Hordes. There's no group shot for these, as there's a NSFW Bones Medusa in that one who wasn't as blocked by a Saurus as I thought she was when I was snapping away on the phone.
  16. The last member of the adventuring party joins my ninja http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/67660-rise-of-the-kage-ninja/and the trio of halflings http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/67771-oathsworn-halflings/ My brother is playing a green Dragonborn fighter. I had picked up the reptus warrior to make a paladin a while back, but that game never got off the ground so he was gathering dust. I had a lot of trouble with him, he has a lot of odd bits that I wasn't sure were scales or pieces of armour. I'm still not sure about some of them, they don't look like scales, but they also don't connect to the rest of the armour. The rear spiked attachments gave me particular trouble. I couldn't figure out for sure how to mount them, the pins and holes don't line up perfectly and I had no idea how they were supposed to look. They seemed to sit too close to the sword, so I gave them outward curves. I don't know what actual purpose they serve, but they seem almost like vestigial wings, like maybe the Dragonborn is honouring it's draconian ancestry. I used the Scorched Metal from the CAV kickstarter as a base for the metal armour again, but this time I mixed it with some Ancient Bronze, then mixed in some Antique Gold and New Gold for highlighting. I used Rach Red for the armour and Christmas Wreath with Alien Goo for the flesh. I didn't have time to do anything with the base, we are playing this evening, so I just painted the metal bit black. And here's a group shot (well, minus the ninja who is probably hiding*): *or, he's just at my friends house where we actually play the game
  17. Was looking for some minis to break up a lot of the groups I have to paint now and decided to paint this not-dragonborn fellow. A player in my D&D campaign plays Dragonborns occasionally and he usually picks the golden one. He was using a mini I had painted as an NPC for Hoarde of the Dragon Queen (which was therefore a blue dragonborn) but I decided I could paint this guy to reflect the character he plays. Of course the curse of painting the mini is on me and now our group is indefinitely on hold. Anyways, enjoyed the verdigris effect of the shield, can't remember who posted the tutorial for that but I bought Reaper Mint Green just with the intention of doing it and decided that could work for his shield. I didn't want to have too much contrasting silver/gold so his armor is sparkling blue. The hilt of his sword was all weird so I thought it kind of looked like sculpted jade and attempted to paint him that way. The only thing I really don't like is I did my usual matte testors spray over the top of him and he's a lot less shiny than when I had just painted him. I am debating going back over his shiny bits (like his scales) with a semi-gloss but am not fully decided yet. Anyways, thank you for reading!
  18. This is Ralshana, a Dragonborn Paladin serving the ideal of justice. This was done for a friend of mine to represent her character in our D&D 5th game. In truth, Ralshana uses a greatsword, but I couldn't find a halfdragon with one. Other than that, I think I captured the nature of the character. I am really pleased with how she came out, though my picture taking skills are somewhat lacking. I took great pains to highlight the scales of her body, as well as the scales on her armor. Some of that gets lost in the picture. I'm still learning about light diffusion and such. I hope you like her! And as always, CC are always welcome. Ralshana (front): Ralshana (back): There was a crack in the sculpt that I noticed, after I had primed and based her. Not sure how I missed it. I was out of greenstuff, so I just kind of went with it. CAH
  19. Hero Forge: Archetypes 1 & 2 - Paladin & Rogue - Casting Type: Strong Plastic - table quality. I was commissioned to paint these miniature for a D&D 5e game. They are a Dragonborn Paladin and a Gnome Rogue. I am going to tag this thread with another thread that has a WIP of another HF miniatures. My over all review of this thus far is not great. I don't want to bash another company but I am not impressed so far. The miniature absorbs the paint. No joke It takes it into the miniature. The following pictures take about 4 rounds of diluted paint to achieve the color. I saw the video SamuraiJack posted about coating them. But as this is my first try and I didn't pay for them I was not going to attempt them. The likelihood is I may not get the chance as I am unwilling to purchase a "Strong Plastic" Hero Forge miniature to test it out. First coat of Reaper Brown Wash (3:1) to see the details better. It didn't help much; the cast of these didn't have the details show very well at all. Next was a dry brush: From dark grey to a lighter gray. Duel attempt: Bring out detail / add shadowing. It took about 4 layers of diluted paint. I standardly use a 3:1 ratio as I am prone to glazing/washing. Honed Steel, White Leather (which is whiter than the link, fyi), Denim Blue (also lighter than the picture) Forest Green, Intense Brown, I'm also attempting to paint faster too, Trying to get my production time down for table table quality.
  20. This cool dragon person was painted up to be our 5th Edition Vengeance Paladin, follower of the Storm Lord. The brown spots on her scales and skin are part of her back story, where her lineage is questionable and her mother was executed for infidelity. The character is not on good terms with her family....
  21. I recently modified and painted the 14225: Ra'am, Reptus Hero figure for use as a D&D 5e character. Character Inspiration: Race: White Dragonborn Class: Barbarian Background: Pirate Place of Origin: Luskan, City of Sails I did many modifications to represent this character. Base: is scratch-built from polystyrene to represent the gunwale of a Viking longboat. The water is sculpted milliput. The bag is a plastic piece from some 1:72 scale minitaure kit. The rope is a coil of Gale Force 9 product. Weapons: The sword is a reaper sword from a weapons blister can't remember which one. I notched it with a round file to give it a serrated back edge. The javelins are scratch-built with polystyrene rod and string. The javelin quiver is scultpted milliput. Shield: I took strips of polystyrene and bonded them together to make the planks of the shield. I used thin sheet polystyrene to make the outer skin of the shield and placed gouges in it to reveal the planks below. Brass Key: A large key made from bent wire and polystyrene hangs from a cord around his neck. This is a bit of backstory character detail. I use primarily Vallejo and reaper paints thinned with glass cleaner (Windex). The miniature has dynamic pose that gives it so much life. As I was looking for a figure for this character, I was instantly drawn to the idea of my dragonborn pirate leaping over the side of a gunwale to board an enemy ship. Overall, it was a very fun project. I think I took the figure in a whole new direction, and I am pleased with how it turned out. Original miniature for comparison:
  22. I am running Hoard of the Dragon Queen for my D&D players, and they faced off against Landerosa Cyanwrath, the half blue dragon warrior last session. I realized I didn't have a suitable mini so I speed painted a metal Reaper fig, the Gaan-Hor Warrior, to represent Cyanwrath. The Gaan-Hor is supposed to have wings but Cyanwrath doesn't have them so I did not attach the wings before painting him. I also had a new player join last session and he is going to play a silver dragonborn fighter. I used a prepainted mini for the first session but this weekend I painted up a Bones Dragonman Warrior as his character mini. I decided to paint his armor bluish steel, and before I knew it I decided on the spur of the moment to try out NMM. The only time I tried that before I did not do so well with hit even though I was trying to follow detailed instructions. This time I winged and it actually went much better, I think. I liked the bluish metal bits and the silver NMM better than my attempt at gold. I will have to try gold again using different tones and colors to see if I can get better at it. For the last pic I decided to put the two minis in confrontation in front of another project I started this past weekend, my first attempt with water effects. The fountain is supposed to be a Cthuluesque fountain for Deep Ones, I think. I still need to try to add the actual fountain spray and ripples to the water, but that will come this next weekend. Here is the silver dragonborn first:
  23. Here's the final pictures of my speed paint for the Dragonborn Paladin. He could be much better, but I really wanted to just speed-paint him and get him to table top quality without spending too much time on him. Anyhow, C&C welcomed and appreciated! Reaper SKU: 77060 - Dragonman Warrior Material: Bones WIP Thread
  24. This is my Dragonborn Warlord in my buddy's current DnD game. I went for copper dragon scales. This is my first attempt at oxidized copper touches, and at doing 'colored armor'.
