And good evening to all of you of the Reaper persuasion, So just finished photographing this guy this afternoon. This is an Earth Elemental, originally from a blister pack of three minis, this guy, the Earth Elementals Lord I painted a few days back and an interesting looking iguana-like Earth Familiar, which is on my docket next. This was sculpted by Jim Johnson and released somewhere in the nineties. Fun figure to paint, not a drop of metal, but all sorts of different earth tones. The only un-earthy tones are the crystals in his spine, which I painted blue. I wanted to originally paint them green to match the crystal in the Shaman's staff, but I didn't think there would be enough contrast between the grass/moss around the stones. The little iguana familiar will be next! Enjoy!

Here is a trio of earth elementals/golems. Really simple to paint, Vallejo Israeli sand primer (taupe), then an umber wash, then a bit of a highlight with Army Painter Banshee Brown/beige. The tallest one is a golem from Hell Dorado. The middle chap is from Westwind "Dwarf Wars" and the smallest is old, unknown manufacturer. The rocks for the base were made from foam clay pressed into a Woodland Scenics mould. Much lighter than plaster. Also I used brown foam clay so it was easy to paint.

77185: Large Earth Elemental Kevin Williams This guy has been awaiting proper completion for about a year. Every time I had grey paint left over, I added it to him. I found him a struggle to complete because of his size and because of all the mold lines. Every time I turned him around I found more that I missed when prepping him. I finally gave up on trimming them and just gave him a proper base and a finished paint job. It's still a speed paint, but at least he's done and ready for use in my D&D game. Only 30 projects left on my shelf of shame!

Early this year I stated my year's target challenge goal thingy to best the 2015 total of 270 and go all out to paint one for each day, 366 miniatures in all! And lo, even with several week long painting pauses and doing other things; already early December we pass this number! Hoody Hoo! So we go with the biggest of the large ones just for the hell of it! Ragnarokk the Rokk monster! I got this "miniature" from a kickstarter by Acheson Creations. Acheson produce a load of how to put it ...roughly detailed resin castings. But I really liked this one, and pledged for it on their 2013 kickstarter, and was delivered after the obligatory KS delays of several months... I have had it undercoated black on my top shelf some time (as it won't fit on any of the lower shelves!) An aside: I do not think I actually own the usual Sir Justin Forscale miniature, I went with Conan, as he is the measure of man! As is evident from the pictures, Ragnarokk is absolutely HUGE, at 24cm tall and a 12.5cm integral base! Talk about your Greater Earth Elemental! Hia crew, I have had a longtime interest in the fantasy setting of Rokugan, and several years ago I began collecting and painting any minis I could that would populate that world on my game-table. I have hundreds (cough, thousands, cough) of minis from multiple MFGs that need to be painted for this project. these guys were completed a while ago, but serve as an excellent introduction to the horrors of Rokugan. The big guy is the proper "Elemental terror of earth" from the AEG Clan War game that takes place in Rokugan and I painted him almost exactly as portrayed in the box art. the little guys are lava elementals from Ral Partha's "Crucible" line. They come in two poses but were easily modded for more variety. I thought the models went very well together and would make an excellent encounter with minions and a boss. Since they are basically Lava elementals they are pretty cross purpose and mix well with other similar critters (such as smoke and fire elementals, for a volcanic adventure). Anyhow, they are very simple and speedy paint jobs but I immensely enjoy their cohesiveness. I have been chugging full steam on my Rokugan minis while on vacation, so Ill follow this post with some of my more recently completed minis for this setting. Since Long threads of show-offs are frowned upon Im not really sure how to present all of the minis in a way where I can highlight that they are all related and part of the same project. no biggie, though.

I saw this guy in the store awhile back, and I had to paint him. But he seemed too big to be Large, so I decided he had to be Huge. Being Huge (and top-heavy), I also figured that he needed a bigger base to reflect a 15x15' Space. In retrospect, I wish I'd done him with a circular base to have a little less negative space, but overall it was a fun flock experiment. :-)

This is an earth elemental mini of unknown origin. I've had him for years, but never thought about painting him (or any of them really) until recently. I like how he came out, except that the varnish made him really pale. D'oh! The original base for the mini was really tiny, making him prone to tipping over in gameplay, so I wanted a bigger one that was heavier and reflected his 10x10 space. This one is mostly glue and rocks, so it seems plenty sturdy. :-)

I painted a few of these awhile ago - the fire elemental and the water elemetals. The earth elementals I painted up this past week for my Friday game. Sorry about the insane number of pictures..

Getting started on this big baby here: Just laying down some base colors. I'll be washing some darker tones over it and then picking out sone highlights. I'll have to rig a platform for it eventually as the knuckles on its right arm drop below the level of its base

So here's Rocky in all his based and painted glory. Ready to say 'Hulk Smash' if only he had vocal chords, or you know, lungs. Comments and critiques desired. Don't be gentle, but do be polite.

Here is the first shot of a WIP for the Large Earth Elemental. He is based as is my standard practice as well as being undercoated. The first coat of paint was a thin coat of GW XV-88 this is to be kept for some of then boulders the rest will be a combination of rock colours found naturally. Comments and suggestions welcome.

So, back in this post, I mentioned I might paint another Earth Elemental, using the World of Warcraft Infernal as inspiration. Of course once I thought of it I couldn't resist, so I picked up another 77185, and painted it along with four miniatures from the WoW board game. It didn't work out as easy as I thought it would. The original plan was to paint the model in lime green, and then just dry brush the stone color over top. The dry brushing covered up most of the lime green, so I went back over the cracks with more green paint. I then hit some of the crytals with white high-lights intending them to look like quartz, as the WoW infernals don't have any gems or crystals sticking out of them. I didn't like the result, so hit them with some green ink. I then painted each of the board game miniatures the same way, but changed up the glowing color for the cracks to match the color of the plastic. The game differentiates the monsters based on color. Here is a group shot to show the size difference. So overall I'm happy with the result, and I think the Reaper mini will still work fine as an earth elemental. And it was a nice break from painting [REDACTED]. Maybe I'll get around to finishing her soon and post some pictures.

So I don't know if it was the long, snowy winter or the Disney movie, but I've been on an arctic kick lately. Here is the Bones Earth Elemental 77185 done up like an ice golem. The bright lights seem to have washed out some of the more subtle shading, but then it's supposed to be mostly white anyway. I tried to cover the dinosaur fossil with snow, not entirely successfully. I used the Reaper Blue Liner as a primer, so I can confirm the blue works as well as the brown does. I think I'll get another one of these and paint it up like a World of Warcraft Infernal. Good thing Bones are cheap. In my last post I mentioned I was working on some LotR elven spearmen; here they are. They are about half metal and half Finecast; the Finecast is easy to spot due to the bent spear shafts. The last blue highlight didn't blend as well as I'd like, but they'll do.

Since seeing the Bones Elementals as an add-on option, I have been plotting and planning my very own magma elemental! Whooo!!! Also since I got 2 sets, I'll probably do a traditional earth elemental to satisfy our Druid's tendency to hang around in wild shape... unless I can talk the DM into allowing a magma elemental... inspiration: Anyway- prepped figure by washing with soap and water and trimming mold lines. used sanding needles for hard to reach areas. Put on a basecoat of walnut brown (see- don't you just love walnut brown!?) and started in on some simple shading with blood red and saffron sunset. I originally intended to use carnage red but grabbed the wrong bottle. Oh well. Blood red it is! I intend to really make this guy glow. Anyone who wants to play is welcome! Elemental party time!

Haven't posted in a good long while now due to, ehrm.. Mostly laziness, but also christmas and priorities I guess. So hello again folks! :P Had a productive couple of days this week. Finished off two half-done models on my shelf and did my stone golems + this guy. Also started the two clay golems. I tried keeping it simple. Being such a big model I wanted to get it on the table and off the table asap so he didn't succumb to the ever present "Oh look at this other cool guy I could paint instead"-syndrome. Mission successful as he was done in two days! As for basing, I tested him on various blanks and figured 80mm was a nice fit. Alas I have no spares to use at the moment. Might be a long time until I get a hold of more so I'll post him up now and post a shot here again if/when he gets based. As a sidenote this has to be one of my favorite Bones models so far. I love the sculpt itself to death and he has real "heft" to him even in Bonesium. EDIT: New pictures on the base: also took a few top down images: Had some issues with shadows and the white balance, but tried to fix the latter after the fact. Might give it another shot in daylight or after I mod my lightbox a bit. Old pictures:

Have some more painted bones to share. To start off, here are some Kobolds of the tribe of Bron... I may get another set and paint them in black and silver as Kobold Raiders... I also painted up the Pathfinder Wizard Ezren with a non-canon color scheme: I'm pretty proud of the Earth Elemental I did. I painted the skeleton in his shoulder like a fossil instead of as fresh bones: And my most recent is the Marsh Troll, which I did a WIP of if you're interested: Comments and criticism appreciated.

I spent about 2 hours each on the first 2 elementals, they will all be used on the tabletop. I had just bought the 3 Army Painter inks, so I tested them on these. I like the results. I love this one from Lance and Laser "Elementals - Earth and Water" set. Its partner is somewhere unpainted in our figure stash. Ral Partha elemental from 11-426, very classic pose on this one. Here is the complete set, the Fire elemental was painted by my husband around 1990, using enamel paints. Sadly, he doesnt paint anymore , but he does help me with gluing, assembly and basing . The ugliest earth elemental ever is definitely this one by TSR, part of the "Elementals Air and Earth" twopack from 1983. I didn't think he deserved more than an hour of paint time.
