  1. A buddy gave me this Humblewood Aspect of Fire. He already had one and had been given one as a birthday gift. It comes as a translucent orange mini and three fires. I painted him up as closely as I could to the box art. He’s gargantuan sized. Also finished the large fire elemental from Blacklist Games (also translucent orange plastic) and the second large (huge) fire elemental from Bones 1. I based my Bones LFEs on huge bases bc they fit better. All of my fire elementals are now painted and I’ll be moving on to the other ones.
  2. So I finished all 4 of the elmentals, and I'm pretty happy with how they turned out. I hope I get to use them in the game Saturday.
  3. "As we searched through the halls of the necromancer's lair, we were disgusted at the sight of bloody flesh piled in the corners. Then, a familiar magic stirred in the air. All about us, those bits of bloody flesh began to swirl and form into horrific figures! Reginald nearly went mad on the spot. I can't say that I blame him. Our fight with the vile flesh golems was long and bloody. In the end, they were vanquished...but not without cost to our own party. Upon reaching the necromancer's final chamber, we found that his flesh golems had allowed him enough time to make his escape. But he will not run for long. We were originally meant only to apprehend him. But, I now mean to slay him on the spot once I find him. Any being who can conceive of abominations such as this must not be allowed to live!" After bulk buying those MTG sets, I was left with a lot of the Pummelroot Elementals. They're cool, but I certainly didn't need 15 painted the same way. I thought this would be an interesting alternate approach to flesh golems. Honestly, I think I was a bit too heavy-handed with the blood (but it's just so much fun!). Anyway...Happy Halloween!
  4. This was a very fun group to paint. They also went very fast. I finished them in January, but just got around to photographing them. I can't pick a favorite, they all have so much personality. I tried some OSL on the fire elemental's base. The camera settings were changed on the solo shots of the air elemental to tone down the white from overpowering. It ended up kind of dark. Enjoy.
  5. So... in an effort to like....actually not have 300 minis to paint by the time Bones 4 AND the critical role minis all hit me next year, I’ve decided to paint three a week, and always have a bigger work in progress going. This week I picked some low hanging fruit so I actually did more than that. The ice troll was my bigger monster this week. Air elemental i wanted to look like it was sorta tearing up the earth beneath ala a tornado.... enjoy! C&C welcome!
  6. Hi Guys, Just a quick update from my Do-To List. Pretty straight foward, light base coat, heavy wash, dry brush highlights. Let me know what you think :)
  7. I really like these elementals' pose and sculpting. So much more imposing and dynamic compared to most other elementals I have seen. Picking flowers... There are many more pictures at my blog Water Elemental was done as follows: first, an undercoat of clear matte varnish. This is key! I used Army Painter Anti Shine spray. Then some vallejo blue ink and when dry several light drybrushings with progressively lighter shades of pale blue up to almost pure white. Then some ancient citadel turquoise glaze here and there, all topped off with gloss varnish. I did some color shade variations all over this one, but I think maybe the gloss varnish fuffs it up so this can't really be seen in the pictures. Fire Elemental was done as follows: First the undercoat of clear matte varnish. Then several abortive attempts with yellow ink which did just not work until I abandoned that idea and undercoated it with three coats of opaque white. After that successive layers of heavy to light drybrush with bright yello - golden yellow -dark pink - dark red brown and finally black. It is important to let the colours dry a bit between coats to avoid tearing off the layer below when drybrushing. Finish with dotting in some blues for the eyes. When painting fire like this, it looks pretty terrible up to the dark red brown layer. Suddenly, it looks pretty sweet indeed. Earth Elemental was done as follows: black undercoart, then heavy drybrushed coat of dark green gray, followed by lighter coats of yellow sand and light grey white. A stone combo that I think works so much better than just shades of grey, grey and grey. I probably should have varied it more with different types and colours of rock represented. but I just could not be bothered as I just wanted it done at this point. I need my Bones 3 shipment to complete the set! When O when will it arrive? Wherefore art thou mine Large Air Elemental? 77311: Large Water Elemental Reaper Bones translucent blue from the second Bones KS unknown sculptor, as it is uncredited in the Reapermini.com listing. 77082: Large Fire Elemental Reaper Bones translucent orange from the first Bones KS sculpted by Julie Guthrie 77185: Large Earth Elemental Reaper Bones from the first Bones KS Sculpted by Kevin Williams all in Bonesium PVC 60mm Reaper display base .
  8. Prepping for the upcoming "Princes of the Apocalypse" game, I've tried to focus on minis that would fit. First up we have the Water Elementals, from the recent Bones Kickstarter (round 2)
  9. Since seeing the Bones Elementals as an add-on option, I have been plotting and planning my very own magma elemental! Whooo!!! Also since I got 2 sets, I'll probably do a traditional earth elemental to satisfy our Druid's tendency to hang around in wild shape... unless I can talk the DM into allowing a magma elemental... inspiration: Anyway- prepped figure by washing with soap and water and trimming mold lines. used sanding needles for hard to reach areas. Put on a basecoat of walnut brown (see- don't you just love walnut brown!?) and started in on some simple shading with blood red and saffron sunset. I originally intended to use carnage red but grabbed the wrong bottle. Oh well. Blood red it is! I intend to really make this guy glow. Anyone who wants to play is welcome! Elemental party time!
  10. Haven't posted in a good long while now due to, ehrm.. Mostly laziness, but also christmas and priorities I guess. So hello again folks! :P Had a productive couple of days this week. Finished off two half-done models on my shelf and did my stone golems + this guy. Also started the two clay golems. I tried keeping it simple. Being such a big model I wanted to get it on the table and off the table asap so he didn't succumb to the ever present "Oh look at this other cool guy I could paint instead"-syndrome. Mission successful as he was done in two days! As for basing, I tested him on various blanks and figured 80mm was a nice fit. Alas I have no spares to use at the moment. Might be a long time until I get a hold of more so I'll post him up now and post a shot here again if/when he gets based. As a sidenote this has to be one of my favorite Bones models so far. I love the sculpt itself to death and he has real "heft" to him even in Bonesium. EDIT: New pictures on the base: also took a few top down images: Had some issues with shadows and the white balance, but tried to fix the latter after the fact. Might give it another shot in daylight or after I mod my lightbox a bit. Old pictures:
