  1. I started my Benedikt Project. It is going to be a present for my brother Benedikt. I assume this guy will take me a very along time. The mini sits on my desk for s long time but Progress is slow. Maybe Posting here will get me some Motivation. I will try a style with stark contrasts of light and dark like some of Frazettas works. The mini will get a special Base but that is a long was to go. So lets get started.
  2. Hello All, Here is one of my recent works. 89032 Pathfinder Bones "Anti Paladin" I wanted it to look like the shield was a living thing or a possessed item. Thank you for looking.
  3. So, youngest vixen's boyfriend mentioned my hobby when hanging with his friends. They like to play board games etc,. One of his friends asked if I would paint the minis for his Board Game - Dark Souls for him. So...I agreed. He will let me know what he'd like for the bigger monsters. As for the characters and minions, he let me decide ( oh boy, shall I paint a rainbow skeleton?) Anyway, here it goes.
  4. Another one of the Dark Souls Board Game minis I'm painting for a friend of youngest vixen's boyfriend.. WIP HERE: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/96810-dark-souls-characters-and-core-troops-by-glitterwolf/
  5. The runes on the scroll were meant to be all glowy, but it's a bit hard to see against the light colour of the parchment. .
  6. I've had Ragnaros (or Raggers, as I like to think of him) for almost a year. I was stuck on what colours to use for ages. Red and brass, my first thought, are a bit too Khorne-y for my liking, and I didn't want to do him in the classic plate mail colours. So I settled for a pretty mute palette: Vallejo Neutral Grey, a blue/grey sample from Reaper, and Army Painter Dark Tone, Plate Mail Metal and Rough Iron. I did the eyes with Vallejo Red to add some colour. I thought about doing something flashy with his sword and shield, but then figured that Raggers isn't the type to bugger about with flaming swords and shields made of human skin. I also wonder how easy it would be to outrun him seeing as he's wearing about three tons of armour. The figure itself is so heavy you could put it in a sock and use it to mug people. Raggers isn't based yet; after slathering on what felt like the fourth gallon of Dark Tone to finish him off I'm taking a break. As always, comments, criticisms and cash are welcome.
  7. Youngest Vixen's Boyfriend has a friend who owns the Boardgame Dark Souls. He asked if I would paint the minis for him. So here's the first batch. The main characters and the core troops. I went for Tabletop Quality. WIP here: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/96134-painting-dark-souls-board-games-miniatures-by-glitterwolf/page/2/#comments Next up wil be the big meanies..
  8. As I mentioned earlier I'm painting the minis for the Dark Souls Board Game for a friend of youngest Vixen's boyfriend. This is the Dragon Slayer Ornstein ( or so I've read). After this I will go work on the big monsters. Here he is, Tabeltop Standard since it's for a board game. Sealed it with Army Painter Satin Antishine.
  9. Buckle in folks, I've got a lot for you today. Over the past year or so I've slowly collected and painted a set of the five Chromatic Dragons. When I first started collecting minis I'd picked up a couple of Dragons from Safari Ltd which were easy to find at craft stores. Rather than buy a bunch of new models from Reaper or elsewhere, I decided to see if I could make a unique set of Dragons using mostly Safari Ltd models. I flipped through my Monster Manual and browsed online catalogs and slowly picked out models that I wanted to use to represent each of them. I eventually ran out of models that I liked and I supplemented a McFarlane Toys dragon for the Red. I finally completed them early this past summer: The White Dragon Read on for More: The Black Dragon Moving up the Chromatic Hierarchy, we have the Black Dragon, represented here by the Safari Ltd. Cave Dragon. This is actually the model that inspired me to paint up the dragons, as it looked so much like the 5E Black Dragon artwork. Read on for More: The Green Dragon Next up, we have the Green Dragon represented by the Safari Ltd. Twilight Dragon. Funnily enough, that sculpt is also available in a green variant as the "Forest Dragon," but i already had the black copy on hand. It was all getting painted over anyways. Read on for More: The Blue Dragon The last of the Safari Ltd. Dragons, this is the Fog Dragon, which got a tiny bit of green stuff to look the part of a Blue Dragon. Read on for More: The Red Dragon I used up the biggest Safari Ltd Dragon with the blue, and I wasn't seeing anything I liked from any of their direct competitors, so I chose something a little different for the Red. I ended up with the Komodo Clan dragon from McFarlane Toys Dragons Series 2. And though this guy showed up in shades of red, I wanted to paint it myself, so it got primed and re-painted. Read on for More: It was a lot of fun painting up these guys, and I like having a unique collection. I'm also glad they're all done. Though I do still have a Shadow Dragon and a Dracolich primed and waiting for paint... and then all the dragons that are still boxed... and then that big five-headed guy I keep meaning to get around to... and then all those new dragons coming with Bones 5... Which dragon do you like best?
  10. Had a lot of fun painting this one! :D
  11. My first Reaper Forum post! Please give constructive criticism if you have any suggestions! At first I was going to make this dark priest Caucasian, but then decided to go for a “Abdul Alhazred” feel, complete with human flesh scroll and inscribed in blood. I am glad to be on the forum and will post more on my extended “sinister graveyard cult” that I am working on!
  12. Some of you are old enough to remember the old Dungeons and Dragons toy line from way back when. In that toy line, they featured an evil fighter named Warduke. He also made one appearance in the cartoon, and was given stats (more than once) for use in the pencil and paper RPG. I have decided to make/convert a copy of him for myself. This is who I'm talking about for those that don't know, or remember: He got brought back for 3.0 or 3.5 edition D&D, too: Now, that's some pretty cool artwork, and my apologies to Mr. Reynolds, but it's wrong. Warduke is LEFT handed. See? Anyway, now that we all know who I'm talking about, I chose the Bones version of Goldar : http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/goldar/latest/77047 to use as the base for this project. And this is what I've gotten done so far: Hand removed for a weapon swap, left arm armor sculpted with GS, started reshaping the left boot.
  13. Left home in a hurry for a family emergency. Grandfather having heart trouble so I’m hanging out with him helping out. I didn’t bring any minis or paint so I found a local game store and picked up a few. I went to hobby lobby and michaels for some brushes and paint. The paint was extremely cheap but hey if it doesn’t work out I can do something else. Space for travel is super limited (motorcycle) so I don’t want much to carry. I brushed on some foundation white from model color. Since I don’t have any skin tone I had to experiment making it. I am happy with the results. I’m not quite sold on the color for the armor yet.
  14. *** Rise Creatures of Chaos !!!!*** *** It's time for Mankind to fall !!!*** A while ago I purchased this one through the Bay of Evil. It is supposed to be the Forged Monkey's bust. I have some doubts though. It was shown as an original, but it came without the original packing. Also I had to remove a lot of flash and needed heavy greenstuffing.. Could be a knock off. However I will paint it.. Started prepping.
  15. Here is my next project I'm trying to focus on while filling in with the hill giant. This is a birthday present for a friend. I'm thinking of going for a dark angel look with reds, purples and blacks. I'll attach the wings after I get most of the upper portion painted up.
  16. This is the Reaper Bones Bat Demon I wanted to try some fiery wings. Comments and likes welcome! Hope you like him.
  17. So, I needed a little distraction from all the Reptiles and Amphibians... This guy just has had a nice comfy soapy bath and a trim with an exacto knife. Now drying and waiting for colours. Need to fill the gap between wings and back with plastic putty ( vallejo)
  18. I am going to start a larger competition entry, and thought I'd make this WIP thread to help me keep a red line on the project. The task is to recreate a cover of a book or album. Nothing to post yet, except the cover which will be my inspiration for the entry. I have had it in my mind for a while, and this comp gave me an excuse to begin. Bits have been ordered, and work will commence once they arrive. :) Maybe a little sooner. ^^ As there are some things I can do right away.
  19. ok I had been wanting this mini for a while, when it finally arrived I was a little surprised how small it looked with out paint. I worried that it wouldn't look menacing standing next to a large fighter, I was wrong. with paint the dimensions seem to change. comments and critiques welcomed. I think I will call his axe Moon scream.
  20. Yes, Jafar has an evil twin. He decided that "phenomenal cosmic power but itty bitty living space" wasn't his thing so he decided to go a different route to achieve his fame and fortune. His name is Aziz and he has been working on ways to call forth the dead. I am running an Egyptian based Earthdawn game and realized I paint lots of pretty girls and hardly have any guys (good or bad) even though I do buy males. So, for the past couple weeks I have been working on all male figures - mummies, merchants, a cat...hey, it's a boy cat!, and Aziz. Now I am trying to get everything on bases. So, I had considered putting Aziz on a desert base or a temple floor base but I didn't have what I was looking for so went searching through a friend's box of goodies. He tossed me this base and said "Here ya go, make it lava." Well, I didn't "see" lava when I looked at him but thought I could do something to match the green of the flame coming from the skull. I then had the idea of a hand reaching out of the....goo?....slime?....stuff? So, we started digging through the rest of his stuff and found some arms and heads (also bodies but I didn't want the whole thing) so I chose what I wanted and went to work on his base. I also used Chaoswolf's tutorial on making stringy blood to make dripping goo off the zombie guy's hand. Pretty pleased with how it turned out! As for the pictures, the green is bright (Valejo Fluorescent Green) but not quite as bright as the pictures make it look. In the base there is actually some yellow and white swirled in and then I mixed some green ink with realistic water and poured that over everything. You can't really see any of the details in the photos. I might try different photos with lights angled differently or something. Anyway, here he is! Questions, comments, critiques welcome and encouraged!
  21. This is the model I intend on using for "Rosubian" the sorcerer for my Song of Blades and Heroes warband. He is so much fun, and I'm very happy with him. The basing is liquitex matte medium (for the lava) which was painted, cork and then Golden Blended fibers for the top of the base.
  22. These were a lot of fun, and I have 5 more on deck. The lava/temple bases have been a lot of fun to work through. The first up is Hthark the Unstoppable, from Blood Bowl. he was a lot of fun, and I intend on using him for my "great weapon" version of the bull centaurs. The Bases are a Happy Seppuku base over it into Sculpey, which was broken into shape. The lava is liquitex matte medium layered until the base texture was less visible, then painted. Painted to medium tabletop, with some highlighting. I'm very happy with them. Hthark the Unstoppable
  23. This past week I started the Dark Heroes set from the Bones 1 KS, and painted the two knights: Mangu Timur and Ragnaros, Evil Warrior, from that set. I didn't attempt anything too fancy on them, just did them up for tabletop use. For the full step-by-step painting blog entry, please see: Mangu & Ragnaros
