  1. Tarlen has received his mini, safe and sound, so I can post these pics! I had an absolute blast painting this one up. Tarlen described a pretty wild setting for his current campaign, so I wanted something that would be a bit exotic. He also specified "no horde monsters," so I wanted a creature that could conceivably be an encounter on its own. I decided to go with a gorgon/medusa. Gorgons have long been one of my favorite monsters, and the metal version of this was one of the first monsters I painted, so I was excited to revisit the sculpt. I painted the metal one in fairly drab greens and browns, but I've evolved somewhat as a painter, so I wanted to do something a little more interesting. Knowing Tarlen was in New Zealand, I thought it would be cool to paint this up as a snake native to the island...after all, Australia has some really crazy species, so I figured New Zealand must have something worth painting, too. As it turns out, there's plenty of awesome there but snakes aren't part of it...no native species at all (and some laws in place to keep the island even more snake-free than St. Patrick's Ireland). Luckily, I found what I was looking for in the waters off NZ's coast. The Yellow Sea Snake. Bright colors, bold patterns and an alien look that I hoped would match well with Tarlen's campaign. Here's a teaser, because this reptile has mammal parts: And here's the link. Tarlen, I hope she does some suitable injury to your PCs!
  2. In the exchange thread it kinda sounded like Siri was challenging me to take better pictures than her. I don't have an actual light box, but today at least I do have the sun (Hello sun, nice of you to finally show up this month), so I snapped a few pics this afternoon. I left them a little larger than I normally do, so I'm sure you'll want to click on the resized images and bring them up in full detail. Thanks Siri! Now I just need to finish up my own exchange mini...
  3. Finally getting a moment to sit down and post this! This (like it says in the title) was my Summer exchange mini for Falstius. She was very fun to paint, and I'm pleased with a lot of what I did here. She was the guinea pig for a new dark skin recipe that I'm veeery happy with, and I also like the execution of concept on her: the bird half of the harpy was based off a California Condor. I figure Harpies are not meant to be pretty creatures, so basing her off a parrot or even a sparrow wasn't really appropriate. I came down to Starlings (one of my least favorite birds in North America), city pigeons or some sort of carrion bird. Once I decided on carrion bird, it was a simple matter of going for one with more visual interest than a turkey vulture, so California Condor it was! I didn't want to alter the skintones of the human half, so her hair had to be pink to get in the flesh color of the condor's head. I think it came out pretty neat, and I hope it terrorizes some players for Falstius! A back shot to tease y'all into clicking the link below: And the link because this bird has mammal parts: Caw! C-Caw!
  4. So, as you may or may not have seen in the Summer Exchange thread, I painted up a Bathalian for RobinH. I included a note that had most of my thoughts/directions (or lack there of) with it, so I think I'll just post a bunch of pictures, and post part of the note below. Lots of pictures (and loads more I didn't put here) - I'm pretty happy with how it turned out overall, even if there's a few rough patches (I really should have painted the hand/book BEFORE it was attached to the muchroom). And now for my novella, for perspective, it's directed toward RobinH (in case you wonder who "you" is): Spoiler tags because WALL O' TEXT ETA - as you can see in RobinH's photos (in the Exchange thread) I patched up the black on the base after I took pictures - I didn't notice it was scuffed up before I took the photos.
  5. dispatchdave is unable to run the next miniature exchange, so I'll be stepping in for this one. (I'm stealing much of the text from previous exchanges for this post) Now that Secret Sophie 2013 has wrapped up, it's time for our next forum miniature exchange. If you've never done an exchange before, how it works is like this: Everyone who is interested PMs me with the questionnaire below filled out. I then match you with a person whom you will paint a mini for, and usually a second person whom you will receive a painted mini from (sometimes it's the same person). You have until the deadline to send your mini out (though we tend to be fairly lax about enforcing deadlines; remember it's supposed to be fun!). That's pretty much it, feel free to PM me with questions. So, without further ado... The Rules 1. Reaper minis are the focus. If you want to do more, go for it, but the focus of the exchange should be a Reaper product. 2. Please don't contact each other unless you and your person both have listed themselves as okay with contact. I've included it on the questionnaire, so you'll know who wants to keep it secret and who doesn't! 3. Try really hard to get your miniature out by the deadline. Let me know if you are going to be late. 4. Have fun! Deadline The deadline for this exchange will be three months from now, on April 30th. If both you and your exchange partner will attending ReaperCon, you can give it to them in person! Assignments Deadline I will send the assignments out in two weeks (February 14th). Please let me know if you're interested by the 12th. I can't make any guarantees if you're late, but I will try to make arrangements. Exchange Assistant I am looking for an assistant to help me run this exchange, or to take over if I should suddenly disappear. Duties will include assigning matches and tracking exchanges for half the participants. Figure Exchange Questionnaire -Mailing Infomation- Name: Address: -Miniature Information- What you can paint (monsters, PCs, women, undead, demons, etc): What you want (Mouslings, necromancers, warriors, dual-wielders, etc): What you DON'T want (gross, nudity, undead, kobolds, animals, etc): Material you want to receive? Bones, Resin, Metal, or Any Desired Color Scheme (for those who want something for their army)?: Scenic Base, basic base, plain base, or unbased?: Would you be willing to paint and receive multiple miniatures?: -Personal Information- Will you ship internationally?: Would you like to remain anonymous until your mini is sent?: Would you like to know who is painting for you?: Is there anybody you would prefer not to paint for (please include why)?: Will you be attending ReaperCon?: Special Requests (For me, your painter, or your recipient): Happy Painting!
  6. So, it's that time of year again. Instead of running another painting exchange at the moment (which would run into next year), I've decided to do a Secret Sophie (secret-santa-style exchange) again. Here's the rules (shamelessly stolen from last year's exchange by MS): Alright, down to brass tacks. If you want to participate DO NOT post here saying you're in. You can post here with questions, with comments, or suggestions, but I think it will make it even more secret and fun if no one knows who else is in on this. Rules! 1. PM me with the answer to my short list of questions (See Below) and you're in! 2. This is an exchange of Reaper products only. Feel free to add other things to the box if you want, but the main focus is on Reaper's miniatures. 3. Nobody is required to paint anything! Part of the fun is that this will be quite simple to be a part of. 4. If you want to reveal your identity, wait until they've already received their gift, please. I'll be with-holding the identity of your recipient on purpose, but if you figure it out, or know it from previous exchanges, please don't let the cat out of the bag And that's it! The deadline for this will be shortly after New Year's day to get it in the mail. The actual holidays are way too busy to count on shippers getting the package there reliably, plus everyone is just plain busy. This should give people who want to paint some time to paint, as well Deadline: 7th of January, 2014 (Tuesday). PM me with this info. 1. Name and Address (Of course) 2. If you would like to paint for your recipient - But keep in mind, painting takes time, so if you don't think you can make the deadline, just send a naked mini. They'll still love it! 3. If you can ship internationally 4. What you are interested in receiving (or if you have no preference); this includes things like material, genre, style (if any of those are important; "Whatever" is good too!). And there you have it. Questions, comment, suggestions all welcome, but remember, keep your participation a seeeecret . *Assignment Deadline* I plan on getting assignments out by Nov 19th; that'll give us about 8 weeks to pick a figure, paint it if we want, and mail it out. Please note, if you have already signed up for an exchange in the last year, I should already have your info, so it need not be included (unless there are changes!). -Dave Edit to add Question 4. Also, how do people feel about a $ limit on this (assuming one is buying new minis). I've seen that for other secret santa/white elephant exchanges. Edit 2 to correct Deadline date to the correct year (can't time travel 'til I get that Bones Police Box), and add assignment deadline for myself.
  7. Recruittons is still dealing with "the lifes," and so is unable to do this summer's exchange. I will be stepping up this quarter to make the exchange happen! I hope you all have as much fun as I do! If you've never done an exchange before, how it works is like this: Everyone who is interested PM's me with the questionnaire below filled out. Reaper mini is the focus. If you want to do more, go for it, but I want to see a Reaper product front and center! 2. Please don't contact each other unless you and your person both have listed themselves as okay with contact. I've included it on the questionnaire, so you'll know who wants to keep it secret and who doesn't! 3. Fill out the questionnaire below if you haven't before (I have access to Recruittons' lists for previous participants), or if you want to change anything. 4. Love what you do and continue being as awesome as ever Deadline The deadline for this exchange will be the fall equinox, September 22. (This may be pushed back a bit, depending on how long it takes to get assignments out, or if enough people tell me they need it pushed back.) Assignments Deadline I'm giving myself until July 13th to get assignments done (I hope to be done before, but it depends on how quickly people sign up). Try to let me know you are interested by the 10th is possible! Late signups are welcome. While I can't guarantee I can get you in after the 13th, it hasn't been a problem before. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Figure Exchange Questionnaire -Mailing Infomation- Name: Address: -Miniature Information- What you can paint (monsters, PCs, women, undead, demons, etc): What you want (Mouslings, necromancers, warriors, dual-wielders, etc): What you DON'T want (gross, nudity, undead, kobolds, animals, etc): Material you want to receive? 8. My exchange mini has arrived safely, and I've finally managed to get the pictures off my phone! Rumor has it that she's been a pretty big hit with DispatchDave. He indicated a preference for a steampunk lady, and I've been looking forward to painting up Sascha for a while now.
  9. Just got word that DispatchDave and his wife received the package we sent; I'll let Nissiana post her mini in a bit; I'm pretty sure she took some photos before we sent them off! Here's my contribution. Instructions were pretty free-form, so I decided to paint up Bailey Silverbell. I also wanted to play a bit, so I did some fun things with this mini... The cloak, gloves and pants were all the Ashen blue triad, shaded with some purple and glazed over with teal. I was kinda thinking about Tolkien's Elvish cloaks, so I wanted a grey that had some personality to it. The metals are all based with the teal I used on the grey fabric, then painted with shaded metallics. And the jack/jerkin is the dusky grape purples triad. The cloak came out well, and it was fun to play with. I'm also happy with her eyes; there's actually color in her irises! C&C always welcome!
  10. Alright cats and kittens, it's time to gear up for the upcoming seasonal exchange! Thanks! The turnout for the Winter exchange was great and the enthusiasm levels were high. Lots of amazing pieces were sent out and I loved seeing your work! The rules... This is a Spring cleaning exchange, so the rules will differ somewhat from normal. 1. Reaper mini is the focus. If you want to do more, go for it, but I want to see a Reaper product front and center! 50% of the sent minis should be Reaper for this exchange. 2. Minis sent do not have to be painted. I encourage everyone to paint something, but I also want this to be a low-stress exchange. 3. Since this is a Spring cleaning event, now is the chance to find something in your Shelf/Drawer of Shame, on your painting desk, or in a bin somewhere and send it to someone who you believe will get some use out of it! If you feel like sending more than 1, great, but it's not a requirement. Paint it, or just toss it in the package and send it as is, naked and unashamed 4. Please don't contact each other unless you and your person both have listed themselves as okay with contact. I've included it on the questionnaire, so you'll know who wants to keep it secret and who doesn't! Deadline: May 25th, 2013. Why the 25th? Because It's my birthday and Geek Pride Day, and a good gift is one where I can see people getting awesome stuff! I'm giving you all a good long lead time, a bit less than last time, but I sort of ate up the season a bit with the Secret Sophie, so I hope that's okay and apologize. Partnership Rocketpropelledgames will be assisting me this exchange. If something comes up or you have a question for your painter, contact either one of us and we'll get things sorted. Questionnaire If you've already sent me one from last exchange, there is no need for you to send another unless you have a revision to make (tastes change, after all!) and skip to Addendum for more info I'll need. Below is the questionnaire. Fill it out completely, even if you just put "don't care", "nothing", "no". Anything is better than nothing and I promise that this time, I'll be able to keep them for as long as I'm running these and won't have to ask for the info from regular participants. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Figure Exchange Questionnaire -Mailing Infomation- Name: Address: -Miniature Information- What you can paint (monsters, PCs, women, undead, demons, etc): What you want (Mouslings, necromancers, warriors, dual-wielders, etc): What you DON'T want (gross, nudity, undead, kobolds, animals, etc): Material you want to receive? Even if I have your original from last exchange, I still need this messaged to me. Will you be painting something? Is having something painted for you required (be honest, this is for assignment purposes to better match people and avoid disappointment)? If possible, list 5 minis in you'll be Spring cleaning (optional): ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Assignments Deadline The final bit of info for you all our deadline for assignments. Myself or Rocketpropelledgames will be messaging out the assignments March 10th, 2013. As always, thanks to everyone for being part of this and let's me this fun! Keep on being awesome, Reaperinos !
  11. This is the figure I received in the Spring Cleaning exchange, painted by Exwilly. Boy won't my players be surprised when the Ol' Hanging Judge himself rises up large as life, ready to deliver justice!
  12. Alright. It's time for my information gathering campaign to begin for our next painted mini exchange! Thanks! First off, let me just thank everyone for being so enthusiastic about this. It's been an incredible experience to have everyone take to this so well. This round I'll be retaking all questionnaires, even if you've done this before. I've got a slightly more comprehensive survey, this time around, and it will really help me out with match-ups to start from scratch on this. Now, the rules... 1. 3. Love what you do and continue being as awesome as ever Deadline: March 1st, 2013. I'm giving you all a good long lead time, a bit less than last time, but I sort of ate up the season a bit with the Secret Sophie, so I hope that's okay and apologize. About my painter: Now, because I still have no idea how to do a fair shake at picking my own person, but I don't really want to bother Bryan again, I'm going to keep it simple. The first person to message me, volunteering to paint my mini is it (it also makes it easy to just quickly send my info)! I'll let you know that you are the person and then I'll post here that I'm taken care of. Sound good? I hope so! I'll be messaging out the assignments January 13th, 2013. This is only 2 days before the Secret Sophie Deadline, and just about everyone is done anyway, so I feel we're safe here. It gives everyone 7 weeks to complete their mini, so I hope you all have enough time. It you need more time, please, feel free to ask, and we can work something out! I know that everyone is pretty forgiving about this, myself included. I just put these dates on things to give you urgency, not stress And finally, good luck, have a blast, and remember, you're all the best!
  13. Here is a link to our latest video showcasing some of the projects that we are currently working on
  14. Trying to get a consensus on how many would be interested in doing a month to month Miniature Exchange. Show of hands, who is interested? It is not required that everyone participates every month, just simply send me a PM stating that you want to participate in the next months exchange. There is no obligation beyond the current months exchange. PM me with Name email shipping address What types of minis you want to do? What types of minis you would like to get? We would like to get things started by the end of the month, we will also be participating ourselves. If you havnt already seen, we are also hosting a miniatures painting contest as well,
  15. It's been about a year since i really painted anything, so I went with this guy. He was alot of fun. Base was sculpted using Apoxie sculpt. Love working with that stuff. I am not a fan of NMM, so I have been really working to try and make my metallics look better. I am fairly happy with the way he came out. Also trying to push myself to work with and understand color theory. I tend to fall into the category of using every color I own on every miniature. I photographed this using my D7000 with my 105mm nikon lens on it. F/11 shutter speed at about 80 I believe. I use a remote to fire the camera. I setup a photo station in my basement where it is dark so the only light it coming from my three reveal bulbs.
  16. Hello, everybody, and welcome to the Secret Sophie (thanks dispatchdave for the name!) gift exchange thread! I opted for the non-denominational version because I find the name funny. Alright, down to brass tacks. Part of the fun is that this will be quite simple to be apart of, otherwise I wouldn't have run this concurrently with the Autumn Exchange 4. This should give people who want to paint some time to paint, as well Deadline: 15th of January, 2013. PM me with this info. 1. Name and Address (Of course) 2. If you would like to paint for your recipient - But keep in mind, painting takes time, so if you don't think you can make the deadline, just send a naked mini. They'll still love it! 3. If you can ship internationally And there you have it. Questions, comment, suggestions all welcome, but remember, keep your participation a seeeecret . Oh, and the people who've already sent their PMs from seeing my post in the Autumn Exchange thread, no need for another. I've got you folks jotted down on my master list.
  17. Well, since I joined this forum a bit late in the game, I missed out on that neat figure exchange thread. I was thinking that since Summer is now over, and we're hitting the Autumn swing, perhaps starting a new one wouldn't be a bad thing, so here it is! I'm also volunteering to organize it, too! Post here first Once we have enough people for this to be viable, I'll request you to PM me with: (Since I've never done this before, I'll blatantly steal Inarah's info request from the Summer thread...) Your Real Name Your Mailing address an idea of what you can paint (ie: human, females, monsters, "anything") an idea of what you'd like to receive (ie: Darkreach, undead, mouselings, "no preference") NB: negative answers like "Please, no mouslings", or "no display base" are also helpful Material preference: Metal, resin, bones, or any When I get the info, I'll match people together and PM the info you need for your recipient by October I was thinking that getting the exchange minis out by the end of November/beginning of December was reasonable. There are several holidays in there, but it's also about 2 months, so everyone who wants to participate should be able to finish and mail a mini in that time frame. So, any interest?
  18. So my mini for the exchange arrived the other day, and I finally took pictures. I love this model. It's got it all, pirates, leather, boobs, a bit of NMM. Excellent job on the fiddly bits, there are a lot of buckles, bits, and a great job on the gold trim. Now, if only I knew who sent this to me, so I could properly thank them.... :D -Dave
