  1. I've been wanting to get this guy under the brush for quite some time. It was one of my favorites from Bones V, but I just found the inspiration. It would seem my inspiration is avoiding painting HeroQuest. Most of the Overgourd was done with Phoenix Red, Fire Orange, Marigold Yellow, Sun Yellow, and Lemon Yellow. The sclera was Linen White while the iris was True Blue, Sky Blue, and Ghost White. The base is a bit of a disappointment. The colors didn't quite work out the way I wanted them to go, especially on the pumpkins. The Amber Glow followed with a nice drybrush of (unsurprisingly) Pumpkin went well enough. But the final layer didn't work out. Sunshine was simply too bright, and when I mixed some Pumpkin in to try and dull it down there wasn't enough of an effect. So a wash of Terra Cotta sort of brought things in line. I don't even remember what I used for the stems or for the ground. The stems worked out "ok", but I'll have to hope nobody looks to closely at the dirt patch. Thanks for looking in! Bonus:
  2. Here is the Overgourd from Bones 5. He is super fun to paint! I am using him in my D&D game tomorrow! His sidekick is a 3d printed pumpkin cyclops.
  3. Howdy, I was inspired to do this... Eyebeast, Bat Demon wings, Giant Scorpion tail... Kev!
  4. I painted Reaper's Dee Dee Astro Girl from the Chronoscope Line, I put her on a resin base and used a little Scale 75 Moonstone Alchemy so it would appear as if she was searching for minerals. Then the Mindworms emerged! They were made from the eyestalks of the Bones Eyebeast. WIP here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/77837-50227-dee-dee-astro-girl-by-glitterwolf/&page=2
  5. It's been almost 10 years since I picked up a brush for the first time and to celebrate I repainted my very first sculpt/conversion. My NMM are getting better, but cloth continues to be my kryptonite. Also, I'm not sure how to get rid of the cross-eyed effect? Maybe the pupil is too tall? - Pat
  6. I created this monster from a mix of bones (eyebeast, mockingbeast, harpy, nightspectre, ape demon, bed,) hands from the kingdom death phoenix, sculpey, green stuff and plasticard. I have a WIP here. This was a great deal of fun to sculpt and involved a lot of scary background music to get me in the mood. As a kid, I had an overactive imagination, so I can completely empathize with the kid under the blankets. I even tried to fool the monster under my bed once by dropping a pillow off the back of the bed while I made a flying leap for the lightswitch by the door! Enjoy!! C&C always welcome, and I'm happy to answer any questions. I'll be bringing this fellow with me to Reapercon, so feel free to come pick him up and look closer! Also, if there's anything that doesn't look right, let me know- I still have time to fiddle with it.
  7. Made my own Beholder (sculpting WIP:http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/67297-beholder/) and I can tell you, there's no way escaping it's ray of time consuming. Well it got finished at last, so here it is. Do you like it?
  8. This lovely pair came from CoolAliasHere. The texture on the eyebeast is great, and has different finishes on different areas. This will be my go to beast the next time I need one in a game, they are killers in any edititon although I havent seen the 5th ed or pathfinder versions yet. The dwarf will make a great NPC, I considered using him for my Adventure League dwarf fighter but I like showing off the figures I painted. Plus I really want to use the "Heroines in Sensible Shoes" from the KS, and it looks like I will have them in less than a month. anyway on to pictures!
  9. I'm currently doing a beholder cause I honestly didn't like the eyebeast so much (sorry, Reaper) and wouldn't afford the WOTC rarity one. My goal was to stick with the original 1st edition d&d illustration by maintaining an overall spherical shape, giving it scaly skin (not overdoing spikes and armor) and have the eyestalks wrinkled and belted. On the other hand I wanted it to look realistic and cool, having some actual anatomy. Also should the facial features follow the one-eyed concept in contrast to bifocal layout, e.g. I didn't want a nose or angry single eyebrow. It's about 40mm in diameter, so quite big in game scale but not a really huge one. It's almost done (3 more eyelids) and i would like to get some C&C or cool ideas (also considering the base) before painting it.
  10. After almost a year, a new miniature arises, it is a Eye Beast by Julie Guthrie (which I was happy surprised to find out a signature in the back). Take some liberty to learn a little about giant eyes with Ms Guthrie herself, and voilá! (it is a shame the varnish seems to not show in the pictures. I used matte for the boddy, and a gloss one for the eyes, this made them shinny and very cool). As always, critiques are welcomed and encouraged.
  11. SoI finished the mini part of this for the creature challenge, but no stats, so I'm not entering it. Still, have a look, and share your thoughts, and critiques.
  12. For the current challenge, I am working on a micro diorama featuring the space mouslings and mtal eyebeast. Comments and help eagerly accepted.
  13. Here is my submission for the current beauty pageant, a beholder who guard the Waters of Life. And here's the write up my hubby (mostly hubby) and I (I helped!) did for him: Name: Guardian of the Waters of Life (Guardian, for short) Stats Int: 22 AC: -2 Move: 18 HD: 20 Size: 10' Diameter Magic Resist: 60% THAC0: 5 No. of Attacks: 9 Damage: 7 attacks are eyestalks, effects are special; one attack is main eye, effect is special; last attack is bite, damage is 3d10 Special Attacks Eyestalk 1: Submissive Gaze, creatures of 5HD or less meeting this eye's gaze immediately and permanently fall under the control of the Guardian. Creatures of higher HD may save vs spell to negate. If they fail effect lasts for one day. Eyestalk 2: Confusion Zone, creates an area 30' x 30', anyone entering or in this area must save vs spell of become baffled and forget what they were doing for 1d3 days. Arcane spellcasters must make a separate save for each spell memorized or they loose the spell. Zone lasts for 10 minutes. Eyestalk 3: Truth Zone, creates an area 30' x 30', anyone caught in this area will suddenly start telling truths they have hidden. For example, someone who has intentions other than those he's stated to his party members will suddenly blurt out his true intentions. Save vs spell with a -4 to negate this effect. Zone lasts lasts for 15 minutes. Effect lasts for 24 hours after leaving the zone. Eyestalk 4: Repulse Metal, a cone 60' long, 20' wide at the end, any metal, magical or non is thrown back 12d6 feet. No save. Weapons are ripped out of hands, people in armour are thrown, as are people with sheathed weapons, or buckles break. People thrown take 1d6 dmg per 10', save vs breath weapon for half damage. If save is failed, 25% KO. Eyestalk 5: My Friend is my Enemy, creates an area 80' radius around the Guardian, people caught in this area see companions as their most hated enemies and attack them on sight. Save vs spell to negate; the power lasts for 30 rounds/minutes, whether they make the save or not they must save each round or attack their companions. Can only use this ability 1/day. Eyestalk 6: Force Blast, 10' diameter of focused energy. No tricks, no special effects, it just hurts! 5D12 damage... sorry one minor trick... Since it literally comes with the blink of an eye, you have no time to dogde or anything, so there's no save. =( Eyestalk 7: Look at my Garden Grow, used on particularly troublesome people, save vs spell with minus 6 or become a plant of the Guardian's choosing. The only way this can be undone is if the Spirit of the Waters of Life wills it. Usable 1/day. Main Eye: 1st effect is Divine Intent for the Waters of Life. This effect can only be blocked by the divine intervention of a greater god. 2nd effect Flesh to Water, Guardian purifies the creature's body and turns it into more Water of Life. Guardian uses this effect only if the creature's intent for the Water is nefarious. Special Defenses Camouflage: the Guardian's thorny hide and flowered eyestalks allow him to hide amoung the bushes and flowers of the garden, being 97% undetectable. Armour of Thorns: Any creature landing a successful melee attack with weapons shorter than a 2 handed sword automatically take 3d4 damage (3d6 damage is natural weapons like claws or fists). Only takes 25% damage from fire, no damage from cold, plants will not effect or harm him in any way. History: The Guardian is the ancient protector of the Waters of Life. He has guarded the Water so long, and drank so much of the Water that it has changed him. He's lost his natural ability to levitate and has instead grown long plant-like tentacles on which he walks. He doesn't see this as a loss though, since he can move faster than many of his kind now. He views the Waters and the garden which surrounds it as the most beautiful thing, and gives his all to protect it. He cannot actually be killed, despite how hard an adventurer may try. The Guardian believes the Waters he's ingested keep him alive, but it is actually the Spirit of the Waters who chose him and keeps him from dying. Hubby has an evil brain.
