  1. Hi again all you Reaper cats and kittens! here's the other miniature I just finished a bit ago, another flying unicorn piloted by a fairy with an attitude. This is one of the miniatures that Tom Meier back in the day sculpted for his daughter, who had the actual concept for the miniature and then later sold them under his Thunderbolt Mountain label. Well, years after Thunderbolt Mountain has closed down, it's been resurrected at the Ral Partha Legacy site, where the fine folk there continue to make some high quality classic miniatures as well as some new sculpts as well. Seems a good moment to mention that they had a Kickstarter that is ending on July 14th with some groovy swell stuff, so might be worth checking out. In the meantime, back to our regularly scheduled program and the flying unicorn: Kind of awkward to photograph, and the pilot/driver/rider isn't in the greatest of focus, but hopefully you all get the idea. I'd done this miniature before, but was asked to do another one for a trio, so here she is. Anyways, hope you all enjoy, and don't forget to check out Ral Partha Legacy's Kickstarter!
  2. Hello All, Here is a 77265 Drys, Dryad miniature I completed a few weeks ago. I wanted her to look like she was magically appearing from the tree near a brook in springtime. Thank you for looking.
  3. This was a fun little project from earlier this spring. I added a branch to her tree to give it more dimension and more places to glue "leaves" to. Link to full frontal view
  4. When I went to paint this figure, I started to see all the little details on the figure. This is no Tinkerbell. The thigh high leather boots, the decorative skulls, and the almost drawn dagger really say "Back off man or I'll cut you!" I still think she needs a little work. The scabbard is blah because I wasn't sure what color to use. I think the dark brown on the wings need some highlights also. Some of the shiny leather tracks well on the legs and I like the face so that made me happy.
  5. So hello all you Reaperphonics! So finished this one recently. I'd done the other Flying Pink Unicorn, and wanted a slightly different version of pink, so here's what I came up with. This one, like the other fairy ballerinas, was sculpted by Tom Meier inspired by a design from his daughter with his company Thunderbolt Mountain Miniatures and now sold by Ral Partha Legacy. Lots of different pictures because it's mini with basically lots angles, not just front and back, hope not too many photos: They are the last of my ballerina fairies that I had from Ral Partha Legacy, going to have to now move on to something different I guess, maybe some Reaper Bones.....
  6. During my Shelf of Shame Project I started with the fairy. Since there is only room for one project on my wet palette, this one had to take the back seat during RVE. Today I finished another project, at least as far as the palette is concerned, so I can finally continue with my little fairy. Every aspect of this project was created by rolling dice. For everyone interested, here is a somewhat elaborate summary of part one: During weekend I usually put down my brushes. At the moment, painting is a stand in for my job that's on hold because of Corona restrictions, so there will probably be no progress until next week. I just wanted to set up everything so I can start right away!
  7. Here one of my works this past months; an old (now discontinued) mini from Freebooter miniatures. It had a gloomy melancholic look, so I went with a dark palette around 3 main colors: dark green, blue and purple.
  8. I've been running a tabletop campaign in which a friend insisted on playing as a pixie fairy, and he chose this as the mini to represent her. He also asked for specific coloration on the wings and a metallic gold colored outfit.. I'm sort of proud how this one turned out.
  9. The project I've been working on for the past two weeks: Ariel and Orion, queen and King of the wood elves from Warhammer fantasy setting. Their background is quite simple actually, clearly inspired on Titania & Oberon of the fey people. Ariel is a mage, Oberon is the hunter. I decided to paint them with opposite schemes: Ariel with an autumn palette (the flow of her dress made me regret it many times: it could have looked great in blue) and Orion with an spring one. Both are classic characters from Warhammer. Both metal models. Ariel's is really old: probably around 4th-5th edition; there was also an Orion model back then, but mine is the rework from 8th edition. While Ariel's original model shows its era aesthetics but it's still appealing, I thought Orion's original model was outdated and not that good. While painting them, Orion took a lot more time (a lot more), since it has a lot more detail.
  10. These mini's are sooooo tiny! AND adorable!! I did have some trouble really picking out details on the Fairy and the one I am referring to as "Ragdoll". The soft edges were a little confusing at first and the way the Fairy's body is positioned, it was hard to tell what was leg or clothing! lol But I looked on google to get some reference from others that had already tackled these. That was super helpful! After that I had painted these 3 up and set em aside for a while and worked on other things, not really sure what I wanted to do with them. Then a couple weeks ago I went on a Youtube binge watching soooo mannny videos about basing and came up with some cool ideas! (Stay tuned for more on that!) While cleaning up my bulletin board, a pushpin broke. The metal part, right off. I almost tossed it out, but I have a problem holding onto anything that might be useful later lol. But then I immediately imagined it as a spool of thread. *sketch idea, hold for later* Then I just had to figure out what mini to use and my husband suggested the ragdoll, I mean she is stitched together so ya! Then I did the Treant, those yellow bits on his base are foraged pieces of the invasive plant Virginia Creeper. We have some growing on our shed and as I was clearing it away I noticed how cool the little feets from their vines they use to climb look, so I snipped a ton of em, dried em out and hold onto them for neat terrain. These ones I chose to paint this yellow tone to accent the tree, without taking away or distracting from it! Lastly, was the fairy, I just felt her jamming out on top of a little pile of rocks would be cute lol. So I used cork as stone and little bits of clump foliage and some other cork stone and flock to decorate. Thanks for looking everyone! C&C always welcome!
  11. A few of the Fair Folk and their followers. I was inspired to paint them up by a friend's mini-campaign where everyone played as Forest Gnomes. Thopas, the Lesser Gnome mascot. This is the second version of him I've painted, for the DM of the before-mentioned game. "Lord, I was born a Smambling Mound! Tryin' to kill adventurers with two attacks per round..." (minis are actually from the Magic the Gathering board game) A Pixie Messenger from Stonehaven Miniatures recent "Giants" Kickstarter. An Evil Fairy from Reaper's familiar packs. Some sprites or such from "Foundry Miniatures" now under their "Warmonger Miniatures" branch. They used to come as random extras in the Elf packs. And I saved the best for last. Some tasteful gnudes.
  12. The following images depict a miniature of a female sylph or fairy in natura. I am not sure if these would be in conflict with the posting guidelines or not. Better safe than sorry. First picture Second picture Third picture Clear minis are best painted by undercoating with a matte clear varnish and then transparent paints such as inks. This mini has wings in vallejo pale grey wash before citadel carroburg crimson wet blended on drucii violet. Body in thinned old citadel turquoise glaze, hair and panties in army painter green ink. The eyes are the only bits painted with normal opaque paint. As this mini does not seem to be released as of yet, I do not know who sculpted it or what it's code or official name is.
  13. Alrighty, she's done! Got "good" photos (still need to work on doing better there). Link to the WIP: I needed to do better on prep work. Her mold lines are pretty darn bad, along with some other metal flaws. And epoxying the wings damaged the skirt a bit and required touch-ups. Still, she was TONS of fun to paint. It will be nice going back to a semi-normal palette though that doesn't require a drop from every bottle. I'm glad I went with the brown and black outer-wear. Before gluing the wings it was a little funky, but putting those on pulled everything together I think. This figure will likely be a gift for a friend at some point. She was inspired by my LGBT+ friends who I adore and who are entirely rainbowful. She's here to bring them cheer. Aside from that, critique away! Happy to hear suggestions!
  14. I started this figure for my friends celebrating this month. I have had the figure for many years, and the one I have isn't the best cast, but she'll be beautiful. Plan is to have brown outer dress, darkish hair, and rainbow wings. Tried a new eyes technique; I mixed Schubert's method with the Bette Davis method. DKS's guide has the eyes after shading up the face, and the Bette Davis ones are at the start, then cover the edges. I used DKS at the start instead of the end, so I can still meet the eyeliner as I fill in the face.
  15. The fairy is cool but I thought hmmm probably won't need to paint a fairy, days later friends daughter decides to play a fairy. Limited angles as to not break board rules.
  16. This is a conversion of Hasslefree's Gen. I had pictured a mini sitting on a stone looking into a pond which sent me on a search that ended with Gen. Her pose was perfect for what I wanted and when thinking of exactly what to do, my mind went to the Blue Fairy. Blue for color as well as mood. So the conversion to her was that I removed her horns and knife, added wings, and added the leaves and flowers to her hair. She received a silver medal in the Open category at ReaperCon. The main feedback I received was I need better directional shading on the base, the way I painted her wings make them harder than the rest of the paint job (should have gone with a butterfly pattern which I planned on but ran out of time), and I need to up the difficulty in my conversions. Linked due to nudity: Blue Fairy 1 Blue Fairy 2 Blue Fairy 3 Blue Fairy 4 Blue Fairy 5

  18. A little while ago I purchased Hasslefree's "Fairies Wear Boots" piece. The Gothic Punk like Fairy stomps on candy. Now I kept thinking that it would be fun to have her chasing little Imps and stomp those into the ground. So I got me some little familairs and stuff from Reaper. Then Malefacus ( Al) send me a wonderful Mushroom he sculpted. To top things off, Knarthex ( George) send me some stuff including a nice oval wooden plinth. Thinking about it all, I realised I now have the ingredients to start on this piece. The Idea is the Fairy chases Imps and Stomps a few into the ground. Maybe she swallowed a growth potion or something. Now she can finally have her revenge on those pesky Imps! The Mushroom watches the whole scene in horror. I will not use all these Imps/Demons, but I will take my pick which will suit the scene best. To complement the large Shroom, I will include some smaller resin mushrooms. Painting will follow later, but here are the ingredients:
  19. This was a christmas gift from my sister that I am finally opening and starting. Got the kirin pieced together and greenstuffed. It will be painted like an Okapi
  20. Finally got her finished :-)! The sealer makes her a little more shiny than I like, though.
  21. Some of you may know that I love interference colors. Obviously, something as magical and ethereal as a fairy demands that I use all of them. It really is quite a treat rolling her in the light and watching it play off her wings and dress. Also interference colors work well for sheer, gauzy cloth dresses. A thin coat over a flesh-colored base, and painting in the skin highlights where it hugs her body. Also, it appears that the Bones version of this sculpt at least molds both wings as one sprue, so there was a pretty ugly slot where the wings joined. A bit of GS to cover it up and resculpt the hair and I think it looks fine now.
  22. Batch of Bones 2 jungle-themed animals on CMON Jungle bases! 77216: Panther 77371: Basilisk 77266: Slyph 77270: Spikeshells
  23. My daughter (well actually stephdaughter) turned 18 recently. For a few years now, she likes to paint every now and then, She urged me to try it, hence the drawing of the vampire Queen. http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/60506-vampire-queen-drawing/ But I think minis are more my style. This is her work as promised. She made these between 14 and 16 years old.
  24. I gave my daughters each one of these and a se of familiairs. Of course I helped a bit. But they chose the colours and did the first coats. It was made three years ago. As I explained I have to repost my work due to account trouble. Hope I don't bore you with it, The first is by the oldest, the second is by the youngest.
  25. This is a repaint of a fairy statue that I got from a local gift shop. For those of you following these, I actually got it from a different shop than the other fairies I've painted. I went for a strong mood with this mini- every color on her has a sea green added to it (this was a mix of Gnarls Green and Meridius Blue). I was rather pleased with how the mini pulled together in the end. I've posted her up to CoolMini for anyone who cares to vote.
