  1. This is my (very late) fall exchange for fishnjeeps; Juliette from Bones 1. He received it a while ago, so I can post it now. I used Green Stuff and a piece from my bits box to fix her miscast hands (on my copy, her right hand was kind of a shapeless blob as well as the horribly thin left hand). I went for a magic missile/fiery spell effect. I couldn't get a decent picture of it, but I also used a bit of GS to sculpt a lock of hair hanging over her face to hide the mold line/imperfection that was there. I'm not the world's best painter, so I try to go for making any figure I do for exchang
  2. This lady is going to be a part of different skirmish game warbands. Mainly Necromunda and Mordheim. The little mushrooms/plants on the base are made of dried grape wines.
  3. Finally got around to finishing up the base for this figure. I've had her finished for awhile now, but I wasn't sure how to finish off her base. Here is what I finally ended up with. PS: I plan to take better shots with another camera since I feel she deserves better shots. But I just wanted to post her since I was so glad to get her finished. Edit: different camera with other's shown beside for difference.
  4. So, I took a break from NMM practice and decided to do female skin. I had a great deal of problems getting the light and shading right. And it still looks a bit off but I am gonna call it quits now and post it up here. C &C welcome.
  5. I've always been a fan of the Dark Maiden sculpts and started painting the standard Warlord version last month. The idea that I had for her was a bit more lively than the version DKS has up on the store page. Rather than being all ghostly I had a more lively animating spirit in mind. I painted her upper body in a fairly normal manner and then blended her dress down into wood. She's still animated though, so her skin is not actually painted with normal "skintones." Instead it is painted using the same paints that I used for the normal wood, just mixed together a bit differently. Speaking
  6. This is an old Ral Partha female mage. I think she may have been the low level version from one of their old 3 stage character sets, but I'm not certain. If so, she's the only one I have. Painted for table top. Please let me know what you think.
  7. My local game shop had this hanging on the wall and I really liked the base. Putting it together was a bit rough. It came in four pieces: axe arm, body, base, and shield arm (which included a good chunk of her torso). The shield arm didn't fit into her body correctly, so I had to fill a pretty good-size gap with green stuff. Her right breast also had a bit of a crater in it that I didn't notice until the base coat was on, so I had to use a little more green stuff there. Still, a fun project for a $3 model!
  8. My other Raging Heroes mini I mentioned in my other thread is now finished ^^ She represents another of my 40K RP characters (who is currently unnamed which is awkward as its slowly getting closer to the point where she's gonna turn up xD) who is a Inquisition Storm Trooper. I opted for the usual red fatigues, black armour colour scheme that the Inquisition troops usually have I based her to match the Commissar, using a Basicks trench 40mm base My photos still arent amazing, but I think theyre getting better at least xD
  9. I know, bad shots, but someone reminded me I should do something for Orctober. So, here's Jadeah, already assembled and primed, but started after dinner.
  10. A long time ago, Ral Partha came out with '3 stage characters'; the same character at low, mid, and high levels. This is the low level female fighter. I have the other 2 as well; you'll see them sooner or later. Standard table top paint job. Let me know what you think.
  11. I painted Deladrin for SamuraiJack for the Fall Miniature Exchange. SamuraiJack was actually the first guy I received a miniature from in the exchanges, back in early 2013 when the exchanges were being run by recruittons. The color recipe for the cloak is from the Scale75 "Elven Colors" set, and I think it's pretty awesome looking and have used it on several miniatures already.
  12. Ok, here is a figure I started at RCon. I wanted to get a palette cleansing figure done before I got back to my other WIPs. I didn't realize she was a Bone 2 figure till I got back. So I guess Alistrilee will be my first Bones 2 I paint up. Odd how I'm thinking of doing a figure with all that gold NMM as palette cleansing. Here is where I'm starting from:
  13. Another week, another survivor that I don't know the name of. (Fluff, who reads it?) For the second female I attempted to conquer the Scale75 Arabic Shadow. Of the paints in the flesh set, it is the one that I find kind of odd. While it's worked ok as a minor component of darker mixes it just doesn't look right next to any of the other colors, especially the lighter ones. In order to get my shadows and highlights to play well together, I tried to make sure that each mix was at least a quarter Arabic Shadow. After many mixes and much layering I've decided that you can get a decent skin ou
  14. After a complete restart (rare for me), I finished up my first model from Tin Man Miniatures. I don’t recall anyone of this description showing up in ERB’s Mars series, but it has been a long time since I read them. I was super-excited to find a miniature with pigtails, and although red martians are supposed to have dark hair there was already so much dark on her that she needed something lighter. After painting the hair, it was TOO light and drew way too much attention, so she needed something else to balance it out a bit – thus the periwinkle bikini. I mean, once you’v
  15. This past weekend, I completed the Sascha Dubois figure that I have been posting about in the Work in Progress forum: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/65049-sascha-dubois-chronomancers-apprentice-conversion/ For those who haven't read that thread, my goal was to convert this futurisitc Science Fiction figure into a fantasy magic-user type to serve as my Chronomancer's Apprentice for my Frostgrave games. While not the greatest paint job, it is one of the best I've done for a figure destined to be a game piece, and not one for display. IMG_5581 by cnjpalmer, on Flickr IMG_5
  16. So via the medium of eBay, Drifter and I found an interesting bundle of 40k minis. One of those, I caved and bought, because I thought she was really interesting. Image - http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/ODAwWDgwMA==/z/t9YAAOSwPcVVrff2/$_57.JPG (Linked for bewbage) I picked up the Mechanic Female Adept Tech Priest (With Axe), because... What the hey. She was listed as 48mm, but I don't think that's quite right, though it's possible she's been measured differently. I dunno. She's certainly a little on the large side (and due to her sculpt, she is very tall), but I could probably give he
  17. Once again its Sunday night, which means it's time to snap some pics of another Kingdom Death Survivor. When I started these I wasn't really planning on painting one per week, but if I keep it up that would be 52 minis/year. I would be happy with that. This time it's a female survivor, whose name I do not know but I'm sure Cash does. For this survivor I decided to try out a few paints from the Scale75 Blood and Fire set that I hadn't used yet. Her dress was basecoated in Fuchsia and shaded with Sunset Purple. To get some more practice with extreme highlighting I took some parts up to
  18. Hi all, I recently finished my first commission of Vandorendra, Snake Demon & thought I'd show it off here. The pictures contain reptillian nudity so I have linked them to an external site. Vandorendra front Vandorendra left Vandorendra back Vandorendra right Thanks for looking!
  19. With my old combined Reaper WIP thread rendered useless by Imageshacks ineptitude, I've decided to resurrect it as a series (hopefully!) of single WIPs. Starting with the Diabolist:- I've done the skin:- Based with my new Vallejo Elf Flesh, Flesh Shade Wash and highlights of Elf Flesh and 1:1 Elf Flesh/Off-White. I also mixed a drop of Vallejo Hexed Lichen into the final highlight mix for a touch of lipstick and eye-shadow (she also has teeny tiny Vallejo Wolf Grey eyes). Also did her hair:- Based with LED Blue and then washed with GW Gulliman Blue Glaze. I
  20. Some of you may know that I love interference colors. Obviously, something as magical and ethereal as a fairy demands that I use all of them. It really is quite a treat rolling her in the light and watching it play off her wings and dress. Also interference colors work well for sheer, gauzy cloth dresses. A thin coat over a flesh-colored base, and painting in the skin highlights where it hugs her body. Also, it appears that the Bones version of this sculpt at least molds both wings as one sprue, so there was a pretty ugly slot where the wings joined. A bit of GS to cover it up and resc
  21. The second of my four Messengers from Kingdom Death is all painted up:- Her WIP thread can be found here. Very pleased with this one (she looks a bit better in hand than the photos indicate!) As always, any comments and criticisms, are greatly appreciated.
  22. This is one of six Mouslings I've painted out of the ten new ones from the Bones II Kickstarter. I'm a little ambivalent about the "girly" Mouslings with the bosoms and the hair and the feminine accoutrements. I prefer to think of the Mouslings overall as general-purpose, could be boys or girls. Anyhow, this one, like the rest of them, has fun and not too fiddly details. WIP thread here. Other painted Mouslings: 92743, Archer (Robin Hood), 92744, Druid, 92746, Thief, 92747, Beekeeper, 92749, Assassin
  23. Making a start to part 2 of my saga, with the Messenger of Courage:- Just assembled and primed at the moment. Didn't like the sculpted ground effect on her fancy base insert, so I smooshed some Pumice Putty between the faces, should look a bit better when painted.
  24. This is the first Bones II mini I started, although I finished a few others first. She is for a player in one of the games I'm in. The figure doesn't have a name yet, so far as I know is simply called "Highland Heroine", so I am calling her Scáthach after the mythic Scots martial artist who taught Cú Chulainn and gave him her spear. I painted her hair ridiculously red. I also learned a thing or two about plaid while painting her. WIP thread here.
  25. Finally got to do some work on the Duergar that went with the clockwork Golem. Not a whole bunch done, 3 layers on their skin, plus their eyes. They are all Bald As Eggs! so doing their heads is turning into an experience... I am using Scale 75 Brown Gray, Rainy Gray, and Thar Brown as my colors, all from the Black & White set. The Female cleric seems to have plucked her eyebrows as well... The Sergeant has both eyebrows and a braided beard The 2 grunts also have eyebrows and beards... The old AD&D books say Duergar have light to medium grey skin
