  1. This is the 3D printable forest from Signum Games. I bought a physical copy from a seller on Etsy to use as a background for my minis. It is printed in 32mm scale, but only tiny 28mm figures fit in it. The young forest dragon (DHL #3332) and Unicorn foal (DHL #2207) are here to better show the scale. Might need to buy another version in 74mm...😁
  2. "Who HASN'T found themselves muttering "Can't find a blooming pen in this blooming house"? Well NOT ANY MORE." Plus Add-Ons: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/badsquiddogames/paint-your-own-tree-pen
  3. Here's a rundown on how I make quick, cheap trees for tabletop games. For well under $10 you can have 3 clumps of good looking terrain using commonly available materials. What you need: - glue, white and cyanocrylic (Super Glue) - 50mm round bases - sand, gravel, or kitty litter - craft paints - craft brushes - wire cutters - flock - plastic flowers from a hobby craft store, commonly called "stems" or a "bush" if there is clump of them. Look for something more or less tree like, with branches. This example is covered with clumps of foam. They come in various colors depending on the time of year. Step one consists of separating each stem of flowers from the clump, discarding the leaves. Leave the "flower" part attached to the wire stems. Use wire cutters to trim stems to about 4" long. Coil each wire tightly so that it fits on your 50mm base. Bend and shape each stem so that you can fit 2 or 3 stems on each base. Use Super Glue to attach firmly. Step two: sand and paint. The sand helps cover up the wires, and adds a little weight for stability. It looks best if you paint the base and wires, then glue down sand or gravel (let it dry) and paint a 2nd time. This gives you good coverage on the base, and on the sand. Step three: flock and details. I already added gravel to make large stones, but you can add more if you want a rocky look. It sticks best if you glue to the sand before adding flock. Cover the base with white glue and then apply flocking of your choice. Now you can add finer details like grass tufts, flowers, leaves, or colored flock. I added orange flock to enhance the autumn theme. My final step was to give the bright grey rocks a little brown wash to make them look more natural.
  4. A while back, I bought some Ammo Mig vegetation and saw it in my terrain drawer. I decided to paint something really quickly as an excuse to give the vegetation a shot. I painted up this dude in an hour, and then spent an hour messing with the Ivy and the Hart's Tongue. I'm happy with the way it turned out, and the experience means that I'll make them even better next time.
  5. My girl and me like to hike, stroll, walk... We often follow trails that lead through rural areas, nature, forest or historical sites. I would like to share a few pics, so I can show you what the Netherlands look like aside from the big cities and harbour. Yes...we do have tulips and windmills...but not everywhere. I hope you guys and girls and creatures like it. These were made today, due to Liberation Day I had the day off ( not everyone has a free day but the Military does). An Anthill, A Windmill and Tulips, some nice mushrooms attached to a tree and a statue of BACON.
  6. When In Germany we heard this sound in the forest, it was answered by others, Some kind of bird but we can't identify it. Somebody knows what this is? Spraak 005_sdvogel.m4a EDIT: I tried to convert this to a MP3 but I can't. This file can be opened by clicking on it and opening it with mediaplayer.
  7. Hi guys, I haven't posted anything for a couple of months, but I did paint some stuff. Now it's time to share. First up is my take on the green dragon Blightfang. I used him as Chuth in the D&D Tyranny of Dragons storyline. This is why he sports the typicial colors of a green D&D dragon. The elf wizard with him was used as the green wyrmspeaker, wearing the purple robes of the Cult of the Dragon. I really enjoyed painting Blightfang, although I have to admit that the base took longer than the dragon itself. I used a one dollar metal plate from the local hardware store as a 4 inch base, so its nice and heavy. Please click on the images for a more detailed 1000px version. C&C welcome!
  8. Hi all, I started building up a new army for Kings of War: "The Forces of Nature" (new race introduced in 2nd edition). The first unit I painted is the "Forest Shamblers". Those are ogre-sized, magically bounded constructs of tree/wood, stone, mud and vegetation (...according to Mantic's description... which I guess is a way to explain that they look treeman-ish, but also a bit like natural golems). I decided to use the advantage of KoW rules that don't consider individual models, but units as a whole, and put them up on a scenic base. I also added a few animals here and there to make it more interesting (you may recognize a Reaper bird familiar, otter, frog and seagull). I'm happy with the result overall. The drawback is that it was slower than my regular "painted army quality" speed, mainly due to the base ; and I'm not sure how resilient this will be on the tabletop (but I can't say that I play too much anyways... so that shouldn't matter). C&C welcome.
  9. This was a thing I did for my girlfriend for Christmas. She always refer to herself as a sloth because she likes to sleep, and is a fan of Sid from Ice Age. :P The base is far to big to fit in my photo-case, though:
  10. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-somerset-30687171 My favorite news story of the day, strongly reminiscent of malefactus' amazing terrain project.
  11. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/vorpaliagames/instant-dungeon-tactical?ref=category_newest Interesting take on the dungeon terrain topic ... I'm probably set concerning steampunk and dungeon, but the forest might interest me - and some add-ons.
  12. I think this was my 6th completed mini. Done in October last year. I love this scuplt. Love. It. I want another one. It's hard to make out but the drum is made of bone and flesh. He looks so happy about it to. His name is Gary and he would like to thank that poor hapless bard he murdered for the awesome maracas. He was done with craft paints cause that's all I had at the time. Comments and constructive criticism welcome
  13. Second one down! Took a bit longer to create an interesting forest base (detailed in my basing thread in the conversions, terrain etc sub). Not at all happy with the eyes, but they were quite wonky depth-wise in the sculpt, and I didn't compensate very well. Pretty happy with him otherwise! Comments appreciated!
  14. Due to circumstances beyond our control, some of the terrain for the Warlord tournament appears that it will not be ready in time. I'm working to keep the existing scenarios (as opposed to writing new ones at the last minute), but I have limited space to bring items to the con with me, and even then, I don't have everything I need. So, this is where you can help. If you have access to wargaming terrain, and can get any of this to me by the time the con starts Thursday afternoon, please let me know. The wish list is as follows: Dirt road sections (far less important, but it'd be nice) Large hill sections If you can help, please PM me. ~v
  15. Okay! In lieu of playing with the XBOX as one of my guilty as sin animals gnawed through the charging cord on the headset, I'll start my next WIP thread... From the title, this will actually be 2 WIPs: 1. My 6yr old wants a fairy garden, so a fairy garden she'll have! 2. A Bladesinger Sister that I ordered quite a while back as an opponent to *Varaug, whom I recently completed. So, without further ado, here's the sitch.... Jazzy's Fairy Garden This will be our first attempt at a diorama. Now, please note that this is for a 6yr old and she will be doing a lot of the work along with me, so goodness knows what we'll end up with! I'm not even sure if it will be a permanent fixture, or something she can switch up every now and then. I'm not even sure if she knows exactly what she'll want it to be/do, but we do know that it will have at least one custom tree, Liriel Silverlocks (03398 and 02458, depending on the mood), and a buttload of animals! (02756: Familiar Pack IV & 02848: Familiar Pack V) We'll be doing a large base, fallen trees, leaves, and whatever else my 6yr. old can think of. It should prove to be interesting and she'll be doing a lot of the painting... There may also be an occasional Kagunk (03162) in the woods, although she's not overly fond of the idea... Bladesinger Sister I'll be using model 14645: Bladesinger Sister for this build. I'm honestly a bit nervous about her as she's so dainty and, well, bendy! I'm going from Varaug, who's model seemed to be the definition of sturdiness, to this delicate model. It should be fun at any rate! Right now I'm debating on whether to glue her arm and hand on now, or simply attach them later. I was on pins and needles while drilling out her feet to insert the, er, pins in them. I don't have a definite direction for this build as I'd originally intended her as a combatant for Varaug, but haven't settled on that yet. I may go ahead and go in that direction so I can continue to work on my cork rock basing for now. At any rate, here's Jazzy's Garden Gang and the Bladesinger Sister (I'll have to name her soon...) in all of their *mostly* cleaned up and pinned glory! I'm not priming tonight as I don't feel like washing brushes... I've washed a lot of brushes lately. Enjoy! Comments? Suggestions? Let me hear 'em! *Varaug is here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/53647-varaug-the-great-finished/
