  1. I'm putting together a monstrous warband for frostgrave and I did a quick paint of these three bones today. 77148: Damien the hell born wizard as my apprentice 77036: medusa as an archer 77198: barrow rat as a war hound. This last was a super quick paint as I finished the other two. Dressed the gorgon/medusa with knife and paint, so she's Sfw. Still, I'll spoilerize the pics: i want to include the horned hunter I did as well in this warband. Still not decided what to use as my wizard and other band mates. I want to try to
  2. So I finally got tired of this guy, and basically finished him up, put him on the base and called him done.... Tried a few new things with him, such as adding an off white to the base color of his skin for high lighting, as well as the work on his "Skirt" Overall, I am certainly happy with him as a piece to be used eventually in a Frostgrave campaign... Thanks for looking! G OOpsie, WiP here June will be the Black Orc Archer, The Haminister of Truth and I poked around the catalog and came up with next months mini...
  3. As I pondered my choice of wizard for my new monstrous Frostgrave warband, I slowly realized there was only one choice really. I put his witch, cat, and cauldron into he shopping cart around Halloween time. I knew I needed one for any legitimate Halloween display of miniatures. But it had sat unpainted in the blister for a few months while other things took priority. Back to the frostgrave war band. So I chose witch as my wizard's school and proceeded to fill the ranks of soldiers with monstrous members like the horned hunter and a medusa archer, couple of tieflings, and even g
  4. So I've been painting up this fella for Frostgrave. I went classic blue ice troll with him. After taking pictures I see that I could add some depth to the winter wolf fur he is wearing. If it still bothers me, I may revisit it later. For now, he/she. Is done.
  5. I finished this guy up on Friday; he's an old Ral Partha thief (if i remember correctly, he came in a 2 or 3 piece blister pack with some of his fellows; I'm pretty sure I've got them around here somewhere). My usual tabletop paintjob; I hope you like him. I'm still experimenting with my pictures; which version looks better?
  6. A mini I finished up last week while I was procrastinating finishing another mini (procrastination can be productive as long as you do something else that needs to be done other than what you are avoiding). Still need to base him; just need to find the right base for his Official Tre Manor StanceTM.
  7. And the final mini in this batch is Arthrand, who is destined to see use as an Arch/Ranger for Frostgrave.
  8. So whilst digging around through my 40K stuff looking for things, I found a sprue of GW's plastic ruins, and decided to assemble them and paint them up as generic terrain, hopefully to be used in our upcoming Frostgrave games.... Base coated with GW Rough Coat, a textured spray paint, sadly OOP Primed Black Dry Brushed with GW Stormvermin Fur, Codex Grey, Kommando Khaki, Fortress Grey Daubed with GW Blue, Red, Green, and Brown inks, diluted Dry brushed with GW Codex Grey, Fortress Grey, VMC Stone Grey I normally would have done a dilute Tomwise Sauce
  9. So, last year some of us ran a bunch of Frostgrave Demos at ReaperCon. They seemed to go over fairly well. I originally wasn't going to do something of this nature again, as there were some other games that I wanted to get in and the demos monopolized my time pretty well (to the point that I had to do a speed shopping trip on Sunday before the Reaper booth shut down). However, I seem to have taken a blow to the head and am seriously considering doing something similar this year. I have a couple of ideas that I am trying to judge interest in. 1) A straight up Frostgr
  10. This will be where I post my Frost Grave Terrain. First up will probably be an improvised fountain, made from a leftover plastic container and the water weird (77310) mini Also Dave Graffam's Tall Ruined Wall. I'll be doing that tomorrow with bristol board and going to the print shop to print some stuff in color. There's no Glue Stick so only priming and dry-fitting of the fountain
  11. So on the day the Haminister of trooth and I had lunch together in NYC, I had found a couple of cardboard pyramids that had been strapped to the tops of pallets full of something so that nothing else would be stacked on top... Over the past couple of nights, I have started to use some Blue foam Insulation to cover them to turn them into Frostgrave terrain pieces.... I attached the foam with spray adhesive, after making sure that the spray wouldn't eat the foam the way paint will... Here is a couple of pics of one of them... . My next step is to cut som 14" squar
  12. So I finished these up with some Secret Weapon Snow effect, and some Dullcote... Thanks for looking! WiP here
  13. So my February Reaper order came in today, as I mentioned in Aquistions, and the blister of Treasure tokens that I think will be good for Frostgrave... Treasure Horde I: 02313 I glued them to some 1" square bases, and gave them 2 thin coats of P3 Black Primer... I think that they look kind of neat like they are, kind of like what an old Black and White pic would look, you know, like before there was color film.....
  14. So I added some MSP Sparkling Snow to the 'sprinkles', and am calling this done! The Ivy is to stiff to really mess with, so I am leaving it alone.... WiP here Thanks to those that followed along and commented!
  15. A challenge in the "getting to know each other" thread from this month was to try something in the hobby you've never done before. Well, I've never done OSL. I decided to pick up the Bones Lich to use as the Lich Lord for Frostgrave, and figured I could try to match the effect shown on the "Thaw of the Lich Lord" cover with the glowing hands. As the mini only has one free hand, I figure the green glow is only from one side... I started out by priming with grey liner, then used R.A.M. Black on the robes, and linen white to try to figure out what is going to
  16. I have been gaming for a vast majority of my life. I've played everything from WarHammer to D&D, and many things in between. In my younger years, before I had actual bills and living expenses, doling out cash for the latest model for whatever table top I happened to be into was not big deal. As an adult, I found myself less willing to part with substantial amounts of money for game pieces. That being said, I have found a love in the Bones sets that Reaper has put out. They are easily modded, and wonderful to paint, and the price!! Don't get me started. In my current Table top game
  17. ***Oh, Curse You Haminnister of Truth!*** ***This is all your fault!*** So he posted this in the house Tabletop thread: And I, of course thought to myself, I think have that thing at home..... And of course, I do: So now it's time for some moar Frostgrave terrain, albeit a bit silly.....
  18. tl;dr: I'm painting bunnies!! (and other critters) I'm finally wrapping up my painting projects left over from December, so I guess it is time to finally decide on some things to paint in 2017. One of my goals for this year is to actually play some of the games I've bought figs for. So far finding time to get a minis game going with the gaming group has been rather slow...been passing around the Frostgrave book since the fall, everyone seems interested, but haven't moved beyond that yet. So, moving on to my other potential person to play against, my wife. While she like playing games,
  19. As part of this month's "Getting to know each other" thread, @TaleSpinner challenged us to... I picked OSL (which I always think is "open source lighting" rather than "one source lighting") because I've never done it before, never even tried, and the diorama I'd like to do for Reapercon really kinda needs it. With that in mind, I needed to decide on a mini to practice on. How did I end up picking the lich? Well, since this year's Frostgrave campaign is the Thaw of the Lich Lord, and I don't have the official Lich Lord mini, I picked up the Bones Lich on my most re
  20. So after digging out Homer Simpson, I remembered something else sitting around forever, that would likely be pretty cool for Frostgrave terrain.... Still needs more putty work, and of course, a base of some sort.... The inside says Copy right Burger King 1996... And the parts are numbered 2,4, & 5. I guess that there should have been 1 more triangular piece, and a square base, but good luck finding those now.... I think that I originally kept these for use in 40K, but...... George
  21. These two were just left out of my group painting of the "Frostgrave: Forgotten Pacts" set.
  22. These are frostgrave soldiers. I like these minis; although they're plastic they have good detail. And each solider is put together using one of the many options available in terms of heads, bodies, arms, and weaponry. Coming up with a viable color palette took me longer than I'd like to admit. Given the rag-tag nature of this band, I wanted to show both variety and cohesion. Still WIP; lots of things to finalize tweak. But I'm relatively happy with the effort. (My favorite thing is the cowboy hat; I used a soft orange with a wash - which made it look like new leather.)
  23. When I first saw this guy, I wanted to paint him. Of course, I didn't realize how big he was. I bought him but have just had him sitting on a pedestal waiting for a reason to use him. Then I started hearing rumors of Frostgrave, but ignored it for a while. Then one day I looked up Frostgrave because I kept hearing about it. And there it was... the perfect reason to use him. I got in my Frostgrave book and ideas started coming on a warband to support our Ogre mage. Once I finalized my starting warband list, and now have a fairly comprehensive list of add-ons I can pick up, I figured it w
  24. So I was asked for a group shot of my Tre Manor / Red Box Games Warband.... Links to the individual Show offs: Ejrvindr the Far Seeing & Dagrun Arnholdt'sdottir Hawkeyed Arvid & Pretty Laerke Red Gunhildr & Little Svein Swiftfoot Njorn thugs The show offs should all have links to the Wips.... The building is from Games Workshop 40K, The Imperial City Box Set, Circa 2003? (Do you folks thing it works ok as Frostgrave terrain?) Thanks for looking!
  25. So my warband is complete! The snow effect is still drying as I took these pics, but I don't expect it to change to much.... (I will need to go around the bases with Black paint to cover the water effect smears....) Thanks to all those that followed along in the WiP! Can't wait to play a game now...... WiP here
