    Eidolon

My gaming session Friday saw my pathfinder summoner's eidolon become large. So a new mini is needed. The eidolon, named Frost, is your typical ca-like pouncer. I had a gw white lion on hand so... The girl in the pic is my summoner Dakota. Who is blonde, blue eyed Nordic looking but was found as a child and raised by a Native American like barbarian tribe. The hell hound is the pre upgrade Frost.
  2. Resolutionary Models for May Some Games Workshop Black Orcs that have been given an experimental speed paint job. In no particular order: Grunka-Lunka, Grunga-Bunga, Garrgha-Lunka, Lunkga-Gronka, and their other brother Clyde. I should ought to have painted a musician. I had one in the pile. There was one armed with a drum in there and that would have worked for the music, bard, instrument bonus challenge thing. Oh well.

    GW Black Reach Ork Warboss

Hello, This is my Ork Warboss from the Games Workshop Black Reach box that I submitted to the painting contest at ReaperCon 2015. I'd love to hear any feedback. I'm not going to repaint this particular mini, as I want it to stay in its judged state, but I already know what I want to do differently in the future. Oh - I apologize in advance for the lighting setup. I hastily made a quick lightbox before leaving for business travel, and didn't get to tweak the light setup very much. No post processing has been done on the images. Thanks in advance! .trey

GW Isle of Blood Skaven Rat-Ogre

Hello, One more mini from the ReaperCon 2015 painting contest, this Games Workshop Skaven Rat-Ogre from the Isle of Blood set. Again, any feedback is appreciated. I made the base out of Electro-Static Discharge bench mat remnants (the bright blue ones), and I experimented with a red glaze (of a forgotten red paint (I'm still travelling) and Liquitex Matte Medium). Thanks in advance! .trey

    Warhammer Ogre

I painted up this guy as I wanted to practice my painting of skin. I large amounts of skin pretty hard to do so a topless Ogre seemed to be a good place to practice ;) Overall I am happy with how he turned out, a little darker than I imagined he would be when I started him but a big improvement on my usual.

    Praetorian Imperial Knight

Here's an Imperial Knight that I painted up to match an army of Praetorians. Some of the casualties on the base are the LE casualties from the original Praetorian box set. Anyway, here are some pics:

    Orrery from GW Empire Hurricanum

I recently ordered a GW Empire Hurricanum, mainly just so I could paint up and use the orrery that is part of the piece separately, in my D&D games for times when I want to set up a wizard's lab, or arcane library, or star gazer cult, etc. So I assembled and painted that part first. I am now assembling the rest of the piece and the miniatures and will try to paint them soon too, but I will leave the orrery unattached. It was fun to paint the different planets/suns as it was different than most stuff I have painted so far.

    GW Cairn Wraith

I rarely paint GW miniatures, since I have never played Warhammer, but I'd been wanting to paint up a Cairn Wraith for a long time after I saw one in another painter's gallery, so I finally broke down and bought one, and painted it right away in a single sitting on Saturday.

    Space Marine Cake Topper

So, I paint miniatures and make cake toppers. While there’s definitely some crossover in that audience, they’re more often separate. The most crossover I've seen in practice is that once in a while a groom might want a weapon based on a miniatures game. Until now. Here is a Space Marine made to go on top of a cake. It is modeled after the cosplay costume of the best man (the bride and groom were wearing outfits from different settings). So her is the largest Space Marine that I’ve ever painted:

  11. I think I have not ever done a WiP thread (on this board), or if I have I don't remember it. This batch of figures are what got worked on for the February Leg of the Resolutionary Paint Challenge but didn't get finished -or- they were just hanging around partly painted of the painting desk. In short: candidates to finish for March. The little witch with the green hands is part of a four piece pack. She is missing the top of her staff (maybe it went in the cauldron). Juliette is not really 3547, she is really the bones version, but there is no 77xxx number for her that I can find. The human archers started off primed white then two of them got an experimental blue mixed from one of the dark blues and Sky Blue. I also experimented with my new yellow paints on two of them, More about the Sky Blue next post.

Grim's Army of Evil part I

So, I love to paint monsters - I always have really. I decided to have a little fun on the forums and post pictures of various monster minis I've painted at various times (some of them over 10-15 years ago) and start gathering them into hordes. Every so often I'll post a "horde" picture of everyone who's been gathered at the time. I'm going to go with discretely evil monsters, unless I've decided they're enslaved for some reason. Humans count, of course, if they look like they're evil. I'll also post pictures of some in groups. I'll try to throw a picture up here every few days, but I make no promises. Hopefully you'll find it as fun as I do! We should start off with a Prince of Evil, I think. A Demon Prince. I posted this guy in "show off" before, but I love both the mini and the job I did, so I'm going to post him again. This is an old Ral Partha mini - it was released in 1985 and it is altogether possible that I bought it in that time frame. I painted it fall last year. I suspect it was Ral Partha's "not Demogorgon," so I deliberately painted the faces like baboons: Hrm. That picture isn't as good as I thought it was. Ah well, you'll see him again. :) More to come!

    Sanguinius

This is a 3rd party resin mini that I painted up to be Sanguinius. I've forgotten who makes him (any help there'd be appreciated). Anyway, here he is:
  14. Three Bowmen and a Bow Lizard These guys have been sitting around primed for years. They got grabbed up on Saturday the 31st for a quick speed paint to qualify for the Resolutionary Painting Challenge. This morning they were all white primer. Here are a pair of pictures: All of these archer models were included in the 5th edition boxed set for Warhammer Fantasy. I probably got these specific models on sale or with an wBay auction. I did not prime them—somebody beat me to it. The little guy is a Skink. The smallest type of lizard in the Lizardmen army. The three identical archers are one of two poses of Bretonnian archers that came with the set. If I had been clever I could have made a list of colors used. Comments and suggestions are in order.

    Treebeard - Games Workshop LoTR

Had this guy for a while but ran out of steam with him, picked him up again last week as I finally decided I was capable of doing him a decent base. Very happy how he turned out just a pity I lost Merry and Pippen over the years to sit on his shoulders
  16. Sanael

    Necromunda Milliasaur / Thoqqua

Finished up this guy in my Odd Animals WiP thread. Given that I really only spent a few hours total on him, I'm pleased. Plenty to fix if I felt the need, but he's destined for occassional mookdom so he's good to go. C&C always welcome!

    Arwen, Games Workshop

Arwen, from Games Workshop. I picked this miniature to finish off 2014 (to get my 2014 total to an even nice and even number) because it probably paint fast. I was somewhat surprised of the result. I'm quite pleased, especially since it didn't require at much of an effort.

    Dwarf Treasure Hunters

Hey all, I mentioned in a previous thread that I had been working on a Dwarf Treasure Hunters warband for the Mordheim game. Here are the pictures that I have so far. These are all Games Workshop or Marauder Miniatures. Questions and comments are always welcome. Thanks for taking the time to look!

    Warhammer Imperial Dwarf

Hey all, just a quick picture of an Imperial Dwarf from the early days of Warhammer Fantasy. He is pulling duty as the Noble for my Mordheim Dwarf Treasure Hunters these days. His color scheme set the stage for the entire warband (which I can post another time if there is interest). Questions and comments are always welcome. Thanks for looking!

    Mordheim Goblin

Hey all, my friends and I have been bitten by the Mordheim bug again as of late. For those of you who don't know, Mordheim is a long-abandoned skirmish-level war game by Games Workshop. Bands of explorers, adventurers, and miscreants comb through the ruined city of Mordheim in search of Wyrdstone (radioactive meteorite chunks). One of the best things about this game is that you only need eight to ten models for your warband. That allows for some fantastic converting and modeling opportunities. This fellow is a goblin a pieced together from a variety of GW kits. I hope you like him. Comments and questions are certainly welcome!

LE GW Promo Captains (2 of 2)

I picked up these two models this summer during GWs promo special. I actually did small kit bash swaps on both models, but nothing too complicated. Used both Reaper and GW paints on these two. Lots of details to fuss over and some sub-assembly challenges. My camera is very old and tired, so pic quality is not so good. Sorry gang. SK

    Some Classic HeroQuest Repaints

As one of my many ongoing projects, I'm stripping and repainting some old original HeroQuest minis. I don't have a complete set anymore (gave almost all of mine away, including all the expansions), but recently got a second hand set that had some Testors (or similar) slapped on it, and it makes for a fun project to try to recover lost detail. The dwarf in particular was pretty caked up. Being the iconic White Dwarf model, I took some extra time on him, really trying to elevate what are essentially pretty detailless models by modern standards. The gang: Anyway, pretty easy to say they turned out better than my first attempts at mini painting way back then when I was using toothpicks as brushes and second hand craft paints...

    3 Guys with swords...

Okay, so normally I start off my photo dump with a few batches/groups in mind, I do those, then by the end I'm left with a grab bag of minis that don't fit together at all. In an attempt to end that cycle, I'm throwing the grab bag group in the middle of the week. Instead of the end. So these three guys all have swords. And they are dudes. Those are the only common themes I could find. First up, another repaint of a classic figure. The Games Workshop Barbarian from the best dungeon crawler in the history of dungeon crawlers, Warhammer Quest. His sword was long gone so I replaced it with a Reaper sword from a weapons kit. It made the mini real top heavy so I am going to have to weight the base eventually... Next up, Judas Bloodspire, Vampire. Super fun to paint... And lastly, Ragnaros, the evil warrior. I get kinda stuck on heavy armored dudes. I played with hue and color variations and various glazes, etc, but they always end up kinda 'samey' to me. There are things I liked about him though, so here he is. Thanks for looking, C+C welcome as always...

    Games Workshop Carnosaur

Finished a model for another contest. I've seen my competition, and I'm pretty sure I'm not gonna win. Still pretty happy with how it turned out, though. The large plants are all from aquarium furniture, given a little drybrushing, and glued in.
