Very In Progress, I've put both together, but am missing 3 pieces from Lavarath (the shoulder armor/pauldrons and base). I wasn't especially thrilled with either model until I saw someone painting Kyra and Lavarath, then I looked it up and found a blog post of Sandra Garrity's that mentioned the wings were designed to be interchangeable. So I bought both the blister and the box and immediately started putting them together, swapping the wings. Ebonwrath must have warped some coming out of the mould, because I had to green stuff the wing up quite a bit to make it fit. Still, I think it looks epic and I'm hoping to get her primed post haste. I've emailed reaper customer support about the missing pauldron bits and base (that's what happens when you don't finish putting your model together, then leave it alone for years - lesson learned) so hopefully I can get replacements and get that pair finished and primed soon, too. I am wondering about the colors for Lavarath- 1)Black with fiery highlights and silvery armour, 2)Something similar to the official painting of T'char, Dragon of Flame and Fury, with silvery armor, Or 3)Mottled dark and light browns to make a sandy/desert effect. Probably with dark armour. 4) I also considered red, with highlights into oranges and yellows, but the only two painted versions I can find online are reds, so I like the idea of being a bit different. Please let me know if any of the color scheme sounds more appealing to you. Ebonwrath will be typical black dragon colours unless massive inspiration hits before I get started. I'm not certain how well I can pull off any of the above Lavarath effects, but if we don't stretch ourselves, we don't grow. Or at least, not very quickly. At minimum, it'll be fun!

I am going to give a WIP thread a try. I am painting DHL 02881: Dara, Psionic Warrior. She is Not In Catalog (NICed) but still available from reaper. I have had Dara sitting around for a while. I think she is rather unique and bought her shortly after she was released. Unlike a lot of my minis, she didn't tell me how to paint her other than " I have dark skin and purple hair". I thought about her for a while but then was inspired by "when in doubt, paint the shadows purple" which made me think of " Join the cult of purple and teal- you know you want to". So I decided the cloak would be teal with purple for shadows. Then I was looking at One Boot's metallic painting thread and thought "with purple and teal the armor has to be metallic gold". This is where I am so far:

Another MLK weekend binge result. This figure was cast by Reaper for a Canadian (I think) company called Guardians of Order for their supers game, Silver Age Sentinels. The whole SAS line was sculpted by Sandra Garrity, and there were some pretty neat figures in it. The figs were meant to represent archetypal supers, so there's a "strong dude in a cape," a "fast lady running," a "power armor guy," a "dude on fire," etc. This mini, called "Green Ronin," is meant to represent "intergalactic energy construct cop," i.e., Green Lantern. At least, that's what the name and the studio paint job imply. Why an intergalactic energy construct cop, or someone calling themselves "Ronin" for that matter, has conjured up a three-headed flail and a shield is beyond me, but it's a pretty sweet sculpt nonetheless. I love the form-fitting scale mail, and that mask is classic. Anyway, I painted her up for use as a unique Emerald Claw NPC for my Eberron campaign. Hopefully I can engineer her escape from at least one encounter so the PCs can fight her more than once. C&C always welcome.

I finally finished Jannus! For those who want it, my WIP is here. I decided to take the very first miniature I ever painted back in 1996 and paint a new version of him with using some of the things I've learned over time, even though I took about a 6 year hiatus from painting in the last 20 years. My goal is to show that yes, practice does improve skill. Also that if you keep painting, you can accomplish some fun and exciting things! This will be a present for our DM for years of herding us gamer-cats despite our varied schedules! This was one of reaper's earlier miniatures, sculpted by Sandra Garrity. Gotta love the tiny eyes! Here are the original and the new version side by side:

Okay, this is a WIP of the making of the vignette, not the entire paint process. This is my first post here, so bear with me if I have to modify stuff. If the descriptions come out by the right photos the first time, I'll be pleasantly surprised :-) The post is going to be photo heavy, so I reduced the size of all of them. Hopefully it won't be too bloated. #1 The 99% mostly finished unicorn. -- EDIT -- grabbed the wrong photo, this one also lacks the mane & tail highlighting. If I add the corrected photo it will screw up the order. Whoops :-) #2 I "built" this tree using things from the yard. I couldn't find one exactly the way I wanted, so I cut and glued in pieces until I had what I wanted. #3 A spray primered piece of floor tile for the base, with a framework for the hill I wanted. The hill bit is the cardboard from the middle of one of those drink carrier things, Gorilla glued onto the base. I used Gorilla glue rather than one of the other kinds for enhanced sturdiness throughout. #4 I didn't want too much green or too much brown for my ground cover, so I mixed some static grass with old coffee grounds. #5 Putty time! #6 The oil slick, aka black primer so I'd have a steady color under my grass. #7 Some steps along the way getting my ground cover in. #8 I covered up the unicorn because for the last step I wanted an extremely light dusting representing the first snow of the year, but I didn't want any on him. *** edit *** Have to do a second post with the finished product, ran out of allowable photos. Also I didn't get the steps above each photo, but I think ya'll can figure it out.

This weekend I finished up the Griffon figure from the Bones 1 Kickstarter. As some of you may know, I have been chronicling the painting of all the figures I received from the Bones 1 Kickstarter on my All Bones About It Blog. Well, completing the Griffon puts me on the threshold of the final ten figures of this endeavor. The Griffon being done, figure 256 of 266 figures, leaves just 10 figures left for me to paint. I was hoping I could get done by the time Bones 3 arrives, and with the delay in shipping it looks like a real possibility. For the full Griffon step-by-step painting article, please see: Griffon

Not sure if this qualifies completely as a diorama, but it's the closest definition I had for the thing. It was made as a special project for my best friend to help her wife surprise re-decorate the bathroom for her this weekend. She LOVES the beach and all things sea related, so this was the mini her wife chose for me to paint up. It was a good thing, because I was (and still kind of am) intimidated as heck by this mini, but at least I pushed through and did it. I'm overall extremely pleased with the end result, only finding two things that really glare at me. One of them is there could have been better blending, but in order to make it a viable piece of room decor, I went super bold. The other is I could have put it together a bit more smoothly. That was one heavy mini, and I was afraid it would break, so there's some lumping I would do differently if I had it to do over. I failed at getting a reasonable shot of the whole thing. If the light was bright enough to see the fishyhorse, it glared off the bowl. If I didn't glare, the mini is too dark. I included them to show the perspective, and then added better pics of the bits. Oh, and you can't tell fully in the pics, but if the room is dim he looks more blue, but with the lights all the way on he shimmers silvery. C&C is always welcome, it helps me get better!

One of my favorite old Reaper figures (I've painted this sculpture twice). You can tell by the hair that this is a Sandra Garrity sculpture. I quite like the way her face turned out. Her hair reads well on the table, though it's a bit cartoonish at this magnification. Mail is weak, though again less problematic on the table. Basing is simple, but I think effective enough for its purpose.

My 2 favourite orcs in Reaper's catalogue, sculpted by the wonderful Sandra Garrity. I was aiming for grey orcs when I started, and they wound up a bit more grey-green than I intended, but I'm happy with them.

This dragon has actually been painted for a while, but I had such a hard time getting decent photos I haven't posted her. She's meant to represent Khisanth for our Dragonlance campaign, and she's been corpsified for a few months, now. But she was suitably terrifying for the party (except Gerwin, my cleric...he made the save vs. dragonfear and just walked right up to chat. Then he killed her, and only died a little in the process. If you know the story or the module, you know how it went). I'm quite happy with her wings. Sorry the photos make her hard to see, but this is what I've got, and I'm tired of fighting with it. C&C welcome and appreciated!
