I finished one of my favorite figures from the original Bones Kickstarter: Trista, the White Wolf. Patrick Keith is one of my favorite sculptors and he did a great job with her - especially with her realistic proportions and armor. I wasn't digging the original sword, so I swapped it out using the weapon sprue from Bones 3. I bunch of thanks to all of the forum members who gave great encouragement and suggestions in my WIP thread.
New base WIP. I started in on a cork round 4 inches in diameter. I removed the cork to reveal two levels. Then started painting the surfaces. The upper levels got a basecoat of Reaper Midnight Blue. The lower level got Walnut Brown. Then I used an orange, Vallejo Amarantha Red around the edges of the raised surface. Then started painting "rings" on the raised surfaces. I used Witchcraft Purple (inner most ring), Vallejo Panzer Aces Stencil (offwhite ring), and Vallejo Blue Violet (other purple ring). I painted Reaper Auburn Shadow out from the bright orange edging and then Reaper Spattered Gore. The middle of the lower level received a wash of Reaper Black Ink to help blend in the heat glow. The Black Ink wash is still wet in the following pic. Then some finishing details were added and the rings and heat glow given some contrast. I'll be adding some gloss varnish to the geode surfaces and finishing it up shortly. Look for this in Show Off.
So here's my latest completed mini. Other than the base coating, which I did last week in Reaper pure black and Vallejo Game Model Color German cammo black brown, I knocked him out in about 3 hours this evening. I still have a small amount of touch-up work to do (at least a second coat on the base) but he is essentially done. I tried a few new things with this guy, and I am very happy with how he turned out. First, I tried painting blue gemstones on the hilt of the sword, which I think came out pretty good for my first attempt at doing them. I also made use of my Army Painter inks, using blue tone on the sword blade and blue and purple tone on the shield. I really like how that turned out. I'll do have full WIP write-up on him later (I took a ton of pictures while I was painting him with my camera and new SD card, and now I can't access them because my SD card reader stopped working. Have to buy a new one this weekend.) Anyway, I hope you guys like him. Comments and suggestions are very welcome!
