My crew of five drew an earliest hotel registration time of 2:00 this afternoon, which wasn't enough to score a room in a connected hotel. It looks like we'll be out by the airport again this year, so that will place a premium on traveling light, and shopping responsibly. Next task, decide whether we're driving, and how to configure two different miniature war-games for air travel. Perhaps this is the year when Fat Dragon fold-flat buildings will cover the table...

So finally got around to taking my pictures of my minis from Gencon. I took a bronze for Rumscratch. I was fairly happy with his little beach there, even if the water doesn't show well on camera. My elf sailor was also entered, but not judged, since they only judge one of your entries per catagory. He doesn't look very friendly. He was supposed to though. I did a Wyrd miniatures speed paint of the Immolated Rhino. I didn't know anything about this guy other than it was a rhino. Didn't even know the name until just now, so I made it pink. I made it very very pink. wish I could have come up with something to do with the cracks in his skin. I just kind of ignored them. this guy is a deep cuts guard. I did him up in a color theory class. I don't think he turned out too bad considering the size of the brush I used on him. I'll probably touch him up eventually. Questions, comments, concerns? I also took a miniature photography class and as side effect, learned what a few of the icons on my phones camera do.

So, It is that time of year again! When the winds of flatulence waft the delecate aromas of nerdfunk into ones nostrils! The Convention season is here! And I won't be going to one! At least not a big one. So no GenCon for me :( But I'm still supporting the DDM Guild events there! So, I'm sharing my WiP pictures here. The "Thundercorn" as I am calling it, is nearly done. just a bit of touch ups and the base to go. The Pit Fiend just has the base coats on at this time. The White Wyrmling has the second layer of shading started. This is a Scaladar. I think it is supposed to be a robot scorpion that shoots lightning. I have a rather ambitious plan for it though. It has a bunch of cracks in its armor and joints. I'm painting those cracks to look like it has bright crackling lightning inside it! Then I plan to paint the armor a bronze or brass. GF

Modiphius just announced that they got the license to do a star trek RPG and that they're doing signups for playtest rules at gencon this year! I am now so happy that I have spare bones lizardmen, to use for gorns.

Huh usually I put one of these up sooner than this. Just been busy I guess. Who's all going? How did you fair in the hotel lottery? So Sunday was event registration. Did you get into the events you wanted? My group did fairly well at the hotel thing this year even though we had to split the group this year. both hotels are fairly close. I got into most of the events I wanted. had some issues with the priority system preventing me from getting into events because it conflicted with another event that I would only be going to if I hadn't gotten into an earlier time. Yet some how it did allow me to sign up for 2 Speed paints that conflicted with other events that I got into. (and I only realized one before paying) Also I just a bit ago remembered that I wanted to do a Frostgrave event but they are all sold out already.

Hey I'm attempting something crazy for Gen con this year, and I need a little help. I am doing a diorama for the MHE painting competition, and the title for the piece is kind of an important part of it. Is it common or acceptable to have the title engraved to put on the base? If not, what is a good way to make the title known? This is something I've never done before so any advice (including general diorama advice would be appreciated. I wasn't planning on doing a WIP, just puting the picture up in Show off after Gen con assuming I get it done in time.

So I started packing up my Gencon stuff yesterday and realized that I was short three wolves for my brother's Ringbearer game. These three early Ral Partha wolves were already primed, so they got picked for the quick treatment; about an hour this morning. Basing sand is drying as I type...

Here was my main entry for the Gencon MHE competition this year. Every year, I spend a lot of time painting a few minis, then enter any gaming miniatures I have that fit the categories. He got a gold award from the main competition, received a judge's choice award, and took home the 4th place Dark Sword trophy. I really love this mini- the biggest trouble I had painting him up was that Jim (owner of Darksword) owns a fantastic version of him painted by Zach Lanier. A lot of the decisions that I made on him kept this sort of meta-thinking in mind (ie, when Jim and Jess were judging the contest, I didn't want them to be comparing him to Zach's mini too much). I think I came out with an interpretation of this mini that is all my own. I've also posted him to Coolmini, for anyone who cares to vote.

With Gencon a little over a month away now, it seemed like a good time to start talking about it. Who's going? Who's entering the painting contest? Do we want to attempt a meet up again? Looking forward to it.

When I decided to enter the Painting Excuses contest I thought about painting Kyrie as Little Red Riding Hood (Pingo made mention of it when she came out and the idea has been rattling in my head ever since). But as I prep-ed her, it occurred to me that it would take very little to turn her into a barbarian version of Princess Mononoke. I mean, wolf cape! So I filled out her skirt with green stuff and covered the wolf face with a round blob to make the mask. I ended up wishing I had had made the mask bigger though. I used the rosy skin triad on her, blackened brown, shield brown, ginger cookie... and some tan on her armour bits. I know I started with ginger cookie for the cloak, and ended with white, but I don't remember the in-between colour (painting journal, what's that? ) And as usual, my camera washed out the work I did on the white. Honest to Sophie, there's actual shading and whatnot on that fur cloak

This mini I painted for Gencon's Masterclass competition. Overall, I was rather pleased with how he turned out, but I honestly had a hard time placing him in the lineup when I saw all of those pretty minis show up (man, there were a lot of really nice ones this year- especially from Dark Sword). In the end, he placed Second in single miniatures- to Marke Reimer's (holy crap it was amazing) steampunk medusa. I was pretty happy about that. I've also posted him onto Coolminiornot for anyone who cares to vote.

While at GenCon this year I tried to track down how to get https://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/Special%20Edition%20Figures/latest/01531 Kyrie the female Barbarian. I found a promo code and was told I would have to order it from the Reaper site. I went to check out and I couldn't find anywhere to enter the promo code. Do you actually need the promo code? Can anyone just purchase her for the next few days? I am sorry if I am just terribly missing something. I've never tried to purchase a limited edition figure before from anywhere and just feel like I really don't know what I'm doing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. -Nym

First up is an Aztec Officer A wereshark spirit beast from the pacific and a shapeshifting Mayan Shaman (Nagul) A full starter kit is around 15 minis, an example shown is for the pacific northwest 15 figures above, and a LE figure and a print for $50 ($65 international) or if you want the rules too $70 ($85) probaby not one for me being broke

So, now that we have recovered from GenCon, I thought it time to show off my horrible excuse for painting a Mouseling at GenCon:P Others are welcome to show off and post pics of their Speed Paint entries from GenCon 2013, too:) Mine came in as Honorable Mention(AKA Fourth Place) in my round. Third Pic didn't come out so good. So what did everyone else paint and how well did it do? GF

I was searching through the events at GenCon this year and saw or rather didn't see a Warlord tournament. This kinda bummed me out. I had so much fun at last year's tournament I was hoping to enter again this year. In fact, I didn't see any Reaper sponsored events except a speed painting competition. No Dragon's Night Out, no Reich of the Dead, and no intro to Warlord games. Anyone know anything about this? Am I searching wrong or have the events not be entered yet?
