  16. Happy Halloween everyone, here are picture of a model I completed last night. 14285, Taletia the overlords Mage was sculpted by Gene Van Horne for the Warlord line. She's a tiefling enchantress NPC in the D&D campaign I'm running.
  17. The third set of humanoids from the Lost Valley Expansion of the Bones 4 kickstarter is the Orcs of the Jade Fire tribe: Featuring an all-female cast of hard bodied primitives, with abs to break rocks on and buns of bronze. The barbaric splendor of these women rival that of the bodybuilder cast of any 80's Sword and Sorcery movie. Apart from the fact that said 80's movies usually feature male bodybuilders with any females being more of the centrefold variety both in body type and costume budget. The burning question would be: what do the male members of the Jade Fire Tribe look like? Do they have the physique of Steve Rogers before or after the serum was administered? Or are they more like bloated ant drones that barely can move while the womenfolk do all the work? Inquiring minds want to know! 44089 Jade Fire Shaman #633 The skin is Citadel Contrast Space Wolves Grey over a greyish white on black zenithal undercoat. Look closely and you will see the spatter pattern a slightly bent airbrush needle tip will leave...I need to buy myself a proper one, the cheap chinese ebay ones I have been using are really not very good at all. Good thing the Vex is coming. 44088 Jade Fire Chieftain #632 aka She-Hulk. Also the one model in all of the Lost Valley with blatantly metal-looking parts. 44096 Jade Fire Champion #636 44095 Jade Fire Warrior #635 Thirty Five dollars and a six-pack to my name! Time to break out that old Black Flag album again. 44094 Jade Fire Spearman #634 Either the naming of the Bones version of this mini is a bit off (especially since the metal version is called "Spearmaiden") or this one has the worst case of Moobs I have seen since Meat Loaf's character in Fight Club. Look, it's the stripper! Wheeee! These minis were completed August 4th 2020 Jade Fire Tribe orcs, from the Lost Valley Expansion Bones 4 kickstarter, delivered 2019 Reaper Miniatures Sculpted by Gene van Horne Made in Bones Black PVC available from reapermini.com
  18. I have one player who always loves to play martial artists, so I have been trying to paint up the punchers and kickers in my collection for when we can play in person again, so he can have something to choose from. I named one of my cats after him, sadly my Bruce died too soon too. My Bruce with his brother Jet, when they were still little:
  19. My son's girlfriend stayed with us a week in the middle of May and I ran a Savage World WW2 horror one-shot. These two american soldiers here was choices for one of the pre-generated characters I had ready, but he was not picked by any of the 3 players (my husband, my son and girlfriend). American Sniper, Reaper SKU 37008, also available in the multi-pack of American Soldiers SKU 50075. Pvt Tim Hernandez, Reaper SKU 37016
  20. My son's girlfriend stayed with us a week in the middle of May and I ran a Savage World WW2 horror one-shot for my husband, my son and the girlfriend. The nurse and doctor where the identical male and female versions of the same was one of the pre-generated character I had ready, and my son's girlfriend played the nurse. Probably the most challenging character to play, since the character was a pacifist. She did awesome though, came up with alternate ways to help in combat. Here is a photo of the 3 characters together, my son played the War Correspondent, represented by previously painted Max Decker, Private Eye (SKU 50051), my husband played the Guerrilla, represented by Ernesto, Revolutionary (SKU 50043) Links to the other show off threads: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/63252-max-decker-private-eye-reaper-chronoscope-50051/&tab=comments#comment-1186875 https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/91715-citrine-paints-ernesto-the-revolutionary-reaper/ Nurse Ann Foster, Reaper SKU 500528 Dr Thomas Welby, Reaper SKU 50257
  21. *blows a thick layer of dust off of her tiny corner of the WIP section* *sneezes violently* Wow, it's been...way too long since I last posted a project here! So, this is an idea I've had bouncing around in my head since Argent was announced, and I've finally gotten around to putting it into action. This is just for fun, and unless it turns out unexpectedly amazing, I don't plan to enter him at ReaperCon, which makes him just right for easing me back into regular painting! My original idea was this: I discovered a paint pen that holds the EPITOME OF SHINY CHROME DELICIOUSNESS (search for Molotow Liquid Chrome Marker if you too want to revel in the glorious shiny) (also a shoutout to @LordDave for introducing me to this loveliness!). I already HAVE a shiny metallic dragon in my Ma'al drakar, and I couldn't have two all-metallic gigantic dragons in one household. It would just lead to bickering and drama about who's the favorite and oh-she-smudged-my-scales oh-no-I-didn't-he-started-it and honestly who even needs that? SO I wanted to experiment with painting Argent up using regular paints, then using the paint pen just on select scales and edges as a highlight. In my head it looks FREAKING AWESOME. Buuuut since there's a lot of unknowns about this pen and how well reality will conform to my vision... First up, I tried my original plan of regular paint with chrome on the edges of stuff. I slopped these paints: onto part of a spare Bones Battleguard Golem, since these are some of the colors I'm planning to use on Argent (haven't fully settled on my color scheme for him, but that'll come later). I forgot to take pictures of that part, so you'll just have to use your imagination! Next, I used the chrome pen to try a few things; outlining armor segments, dot highlights, thicker vs. thinner lines, etc. And...none of them actually looked all that good. The chrome is just so very distractingly shiny compared to the matte paint that it just looks...bad. But that's okay! This is what doing science is all about: trying lots of things and seeing what works! (Also known as "throwing things at the wall and seeing what sticks" but I thought that might get kind of messy in this context) So, next I tried chroming an entire shoulder section and glazing some of the Clear Phthalo Blue over the top. (sorry for the blurry pictures, I may have been quivering from excitement ) (also ignore the random bits of gold, those are from a previous unrelated experiment) This looked...much more promising! Huzzah! Which brings me both to the next phase of testing, and my next post because this one has gotten long enough! Huzzah! --OneBoot :D
  22. Reaper 02954 Crystal Golem painted up to be an "Emerald Guardian" for a 5e D&D game. I used the airbrush to paint the greens, then used pure white to do all the edge highlights. I think it would look better if I slowed down and made the edge highlights thinner. It also doesn't really follow the rules for painting transparent materials like gems. However, it was a speed painted experiment... so it came out a bit messy. It looks good on the tabletop though. Total time on this figure was about two hours. Most of that time was spend prepping the figure by smoothing out the faces of the crystals so the edges would be nice and sharp for highlighting. Greenstuff base too about 15 minutes to apply. Then waited a day for it to dry. Airbrushing the primer took about 15 minutes. Then waited a day for it to dry. Airbrushing the greens took about 15 minutes. Then waited for a couple of days before getting back to it to do the white edge highlights which took about half an hour. Speed paint total time...about 5 days. Super fast!!!
  23. The second of the superdeformed Chibi hero minis from the Bones 4 core set that I have painted, here comes Arnise the Elf Barbarian. Kissed by fire. I have no idea if she actually is meant to be a barbarian or not. Getting that much skin smooth is not an easy task, especially not by drybrushing. ...oh damn I forgot the freckles! Same height, different scale. B4Core#118 Arnise from the Small World Heroes subset in the Bones 4 Core set, 2019 Reaper Miniatures Sculpted by Gene Van Horne (I think!) Made in Bonesium PVC 25mm integral, sculpted base should be available from reapermini.com some time in the future
  24. A bit of a departure for me today. Chibi, a style formerly known as Superdeformed before Anime became popular in the western hemisphere. I am not particularily fond of Chibi; that superdeformed cutesy manga look that has insidiously permeated the pop culture of today. Sigh. What is the world coming to? Now they also have infiltrated my beloved Bones... During the Bones 4 kickstarter campaign, they offered chibi versions of some of their existing minis as free additions to the core set as social stretch goals, adding them one by one as their target numbers for facebooks shares, retweets, tagging pictures or other interactions on social medias were met. The full six chibi miniatures did end up In the Bones 4 core set. As I am sworn to do the entire Bones 4 core set, I am honour bound to paint them all eventually...gah! So...I painted the chibi Sophie for starters. Sophie the succubus is the Reaper Mascot of more than 20 years, and versions of her have beed used for promotions and to mark special occasions since way back when. She has had figures in every Bones kickstarter. In Bones 4 she had this chibi and also a normally scaled mini. I went for the classic red devil look, with the opaque but shiny black eyes that I find most fitting for devils and their ilk. Is it cheating to do the eyes in gloss black? ARRGH! A giant-headed devil woman! She must be put to the sword! B4Core#120 Sophie from the Small World Heroes subset in the Bones 4 Core set, 2019 Reaper Miniatures Sculpted by Gene Van Horne (I stand corrected by Mr Bob Ridolfi, Sculptor Extraordinaire himself :) Thank you, Bob!) Made in Bonesium PVC 25mm integral, sculpted base should be available from reapermini.com some time in the future
  25. For use in a D&D 5E game I'm playing in, this is my lizardfolk ranger, Suresh. I really love Gene's lizardfolk sculpts, and I like that they're in Bones, because that makes them cheap enough to be plentiful and very easy to customize. Obviously modified from the original "spearman:" removed spear, repositioned arms, added axe and shield, added lizard crest. The shield and mud were both made with Happy Seppuku (R.I.P.) stamps; the plants, crest and shield straps were handmade from greenstuff; the axe is from a Kingdom Death: Monster phoenix weapon sprue.
