Hello All, Here are photos of a "Gnome Rogue/Thief Adventurer" I completed recently from the Bones USA 30063 Deep Gnome Warriors set. Thank you for looking

Funny that this was a Kickstarter project that was crowd sourced and I also used crowd sourcing to gather some ideas on a basing idea. Hoorah! @Corsairmade a comment I should have the gnome with clippers cutting off one of the other gnomes' hats. I wish i would have thought of that before I finished painting and glued them down. However, I did realize I could make their tools look more in use. I added turf to their tools and make it look like this is a moment in action, not just a pose. I think it's a significant improvement. Here's the gnomes.

Have you ever thought to yourself, "If only I could make this mini temporarily huge, I could really go to town on the details, blending, etc..." Because this line of thought is about to get me into trouble. I've seen quite a few examples of kickelf busts done here, and seeing the sunbleached and sorry state of some Garden Gnomes I found last year in a forgotten tote bin, ideas began to ferment. Also I've been playing more Mordheim than is probably healthy on the PS4 which led to dreams of Gnome Witch Hunters purging the lawn of weeds and heresy. Which then led to various other forms of madness that can be expressed in a lawn setting.... but for now let us begin with Gnomes and Mushrooms. Partial basecoating done with some ancient craft paints, as I'm somewhat intimidated by the sheer amount of surface area I'm dealing with, and the fact that my skintone blending is not something I feel is paticularly strong as of now. The plan is to have his shirt come back up to white, and his overalls will also be black. The shoes as well, maybe. Beard and hair will likely be blonde. His walking stick might be converted to an axe once I find my hobby saw and get a pattern traced on some balsa wood. Overall, the vision is of Puritan/Amish village mob. I've already coated the stems in beige spraypaint, and I'm thinking to paint the caps in an orange/red with white in the holes. I'm tempted to try sculpting some Malefaction faces on them, but seeing as how I've never sculpted anything before I figure it's best to get used to painting the absurdly large first. (As I type this I hear the voice of future me muttering something about how the sculpting is inevitable and something about moldmaking. He's suspiciously silent when I ask back concerning winning lotto numbers...)

Presenting a pair of Deep Gnome heroes (I'm calling them Harold and Alice) from Reaper. I got these to see what the Bones Black material was like on smaller minis (I was quite impressed), and while some parts could've gone better (One day I'll learn how to highlight dark blue) they were a lot of fun to paint up. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.

Hello everybody, so once these came out in retail I was really pretty thrilled and bought some as soon as possible. Now that I've taken photos I see tons of errors, but oh well, I'm probably not going to fix anything any more with these two. I'd like to just mention that these two little gnomes were great fun to paint and as my second and third Bones Black figures that I've painted, I do enjoy working with the material. I did prime them, and the only real issue I had was those first coats of primer, and also a first coat of paint sticking on the figure properly (yes I washed them before starting to paint). Also removing the flash was a bit different than removing flash from metal, but not a horrible inconvenience. Anyway, here they are, hope you enjoy them! and the lovely pair together:

Loved painting this little crew. They are the size of the new Kobolds, (those are 20mm bases) with lots of nice details and character to pick out. I tried to use lots of pastels and light greys (and odd hair colours) to make them look distinct from dwarves.

A set of 13 detailed male & female 28mm scale gnome miniatures, suitable for all your Fantasy miniature games, from Midlam Miniatures. About this project The Baron of Midlam, on dealing with the matter of the 'Winter Adventurers' returned home to Midlam Manor, to a most alarming sight. For there, at the end of his estate, at the bottom of the garden, was a hill, where previously, there had been no hill. Fortunately the Wizard Gudgrief had accompanied him, and was quick with sage advice. "I fear my Lord, that you have a mild infestation of gnomes, the common or garden sort. Quite harmless, I assure you... " The Baron did not look best pleased, for this was Midlam Manor, his supposedly secret retreat, far from the hustle and bustle and plotting and scheming of Midlam Town. And now there were gnomes here. Gudgrief, sensing the Baron's dismay was quick to step in. "You'll find they are no bother, indeed, they are good at tending gardens so they team with flowers, will protect your grounds from wild animals and alert you to the coming of foes. Other than that, you'll hardly know they are here... harrumph, apart from the hills of course... they do so like to build hills..." Midlam Miniatures are pleased to present a collection of thirteen 28mm scale figures, for all of your Fantasy games. There are a variety of both male and female gnome miniatures.

Curious if there are any ghouls out there in mini-verse to represent the shorter races like gnomes & halflings. thanks! EDIT: Never fails.... I found one on Heresy's site. It's not a demi-human but it would probably work + they have some other minis that might fill some other rolls as well.

The Breach The last year has had its ups and down for the Gnomes of the Stonehavens. The Wyrmgear Initiative (as it has become know) has been very successful, and Wyrmgear and his later created brethren rule the skies. This has kept the Goblinoid hordes in check. On the down side, repeated attempts at formal alliances with the Dwarves (be they the nearby Dwarves of Stonehaven, the distant Scrunts of the territory of Olley, or the mighty clans of the Oathsworn Dwarves) have thus far lead to little more than non-aggression pacts. But unknown to the Gnomes, the Goblins have been much more successful in finding allies. For deep within Goblin lands they have uncovered an ancient Maul of Legend, known as Stonecrusher. Legends say it was forged and wielded long ago by a Demon Prince in his war against Hirst the Builder. The Goblins have gifted this great weapon to Skorg Ironskull, King of the Fire Giants. In return Skorg has mobilized the might of Thulgarast to lay waste these puny Gnomes. And he has brought with him his ally Kyra, riding the mighty Lavarath, to take back the skies. The plan is simple, but effective. The Goblin army has attacked a key village near the Gnomish stronghold of Blackstone. The Gnomish air forces have quickly mobilized to engage the Goblins. Which leaves the stronghold itself vulnerable to attack, especially to an attack that can blast straight through the walls… ************************************************************************************* Skorg despises the waiting. But still, the Goblins’ plan is surprisingly clever. They will need to be watched more closely… At last, the cursed winged mechanical monstrosities are away. Time to alter the plan. “Vanja, hold the troops here. I shall go with just Fomohr and Drokos. If this weapon works as the legends say we will be more than enough to rid this hill of its pathetic vermin,†With that Skorg strode from cover, casually marching towards the walls of Blackstone. Fomohr, as always, quickly took the lead, placing himself between any danger and his King. Drokos strode beside his King, thoughtfully weighing the massive maul in his hands. A sudden cry could be heard from the walls as they were spotted, followed by a strange, alien whine. Moments later a blast of searing light flashes past Skorg, detonating a trough in the ground well behind him. “Blasted Gnomes and their infernal creations!â€, he snarls, and waves his sword forward in a planned gesture. As the three Fire Giants break into a jog, Kyra and Lavarath streak into view. The strange device on the battlements fires off several haphazard blasts as its crew tries to get a bearing on the mighty dragon, to no avail. Lavarath crashes to a stop atop the tower, smashing and mangling the device and its crew. Now at the wall, Drokos glances at his King once then steps forward. Hefting the might maul, he delivers a single swing with all his might. The wall in front of him vanishes, blown into the keep with incredible force. Fomohr immediately charges through the breach. Skorg can’t help but laugh, this power the Goblins have freely given…. “Bring it all down, Drokos!†He commands, as he charges forward. And I'd like to thank my wife for taking time out of a very busy day (our guests should be here any minute....) to take these wonderful pictures. They are much better than the ones I took on my phone...

So out of the six gnomes that I've been working on recently, I've got four of them finished. These are old Ral Partha Julie Guthrie gnomes and they are pretty small. I put in a penny in a photo so you could see a size comparison. I've still got two TSR gnomes I'm working on for the near future. I've got the skin and hair figured out, but I'm a bit stymied on the color for their clothing. These I think are from 1984 as per the bottoms of their bases. Anyway, enjoy!

Jasper's Year of the Giants Diorama WIP
Jasper_the_2nd posted a topic in Works in Progress: Painting
I'd posted a few pics in my combined WIP as I was figuring things out, but now that I'm (finally) gearing up to really start working on my diorama for the 2014 Year of the Giants contest, I guess it's time to start a new WIP. The idea I'm working with for this diorama is set in the same (loosely defined) world as my Wyrmgear diorama from last year. A slightly steampunky fantasy world. So far we have seen the Gnomes (specifically the Stonehaven ones) as a faction, obviously technologically advanced enough to create automatons and even Wyrmgear. Now we get to see one of the forces they must battle, Fire Giants and their allies. So, my idea is a Gnomish fortress being breached by what is likely the vanguard of a much larger army (perhaps lesser giants, orcs, things like that). 4 (or maybe 3, not sure yet) Fire Giants, have smashed through the wall (the Fire Giant in the back will have his sword swapped for a large, obviously magical maul/hammer) while Kyra and Lavarath cleared the tower of any defenders. There will likely be a few Gnomish casualties and possibly some shattered steampunky weapons to help tie it all together. This pic is a mock up of what I think needs to be there. I'm trying to plan out a base size so I can get something cut and start doing the actual block assembly and other terrain planning. I've taped off what I think will work as a base, 12x14 inches. The walls will of course extend to the edges of the diorama. The walls, where damaged, will be filled with gravel and stone, and where undamaged will have stone across the top and crenelations and such. The tower will likely have an arch passing through from the wall top or something similar and maybe some arrow slots. I'm undecided if the interior of the keep will be flagstones or dirt. The exterior will be dirt, grass, possibly with the edge of a moat or something showing. Maybe raise the whole thing on 2 inches of Styrofoam to allow some variable terrain....hmm, I like that. Will help with craters too.... Anyway, thoughts, suggestions, etc are always welcome and appreciated. Looks like I'm going to be busy over the next 4 months...- 186 replies

Back when Stonehaven was having their Gnomes Kickstarter, I saw the first of their mounted figs and had the revelation that they would probably fit on Wyrmgear; that I could actually have a crew of Gnomes on a clockwork dragon in a similar fashion to the dragon crews in the Temeraire series (by Naomi Novik, think the Napoleonic War only with Dragons if you haven't read it). This idea wouldn't go away so I ordered extra of the Gnomes I thought I might use (and because they're Gnomes!) and waited. My Gnomes arrived on Monday, game night. I did manage a quick test fitting to make sure the idea would fly (pun fully intended). Excellent.... So last night, while waiting for putty to dry, I started doing some figuring. First off, the broccoli on Wyrmgear's feet is tough. I'm going to need a new exacto blade to get through that. I searched around to find something to hold the chassis body while I had the legs off. A little tricky with the deep chest, but this seems to work. Think I'll need to add on a little bit to give the Gnomes room to stand/kneel on his back. Then I started looking at the wing attachment points. This is why I decided to post about this today (since I know I'm not going to get much of a change to work on it until at least next week), to see what other people think. I'd like to move the wings down to near horizontal (yes, going to make for a BIG diorama). So the connection points look something like this. So I'm trying to decide what that joint should look like with the wings down. Options I see working: 1) gear teeth curving down into the opening, as if there are gears below that drive the wings up and down 2) curved metal with chains 3) just curved metal as if there is a lever going down into the body that is manipulated by machinery out of sight As all of those are going to be a big stretch to my meager sculpting skills, I'm currently undecided. So please, what do you think?
