OneBoot and I will be kicking off this latest 7-day challenge on August 1st, 2017 and it will run for a full year until August 1st, 2018. This is to give participants time to arrange for a 7-day block of time to work on the piece, as it will likely need every minute! This will be the first 7-Day challenge to have a contest component for best completed entry, which will have a prize. My understanding is that Reaper will provide a gift certificate ($50 was the amount discussed) for the ultimate winner. (As I am running the contest, I am of course not eligible for the prize) Any additional information updates will be posted here. As with all 7-Day Goblin Challenges, this will adhere to the Goblin Challenge Rules here: Note that extra terrain work/basing outside of what is included with the piece is not judged as part of the finished process, so it will not count towards making your finished piece the prettiest. Only the finished work of the basic model (all of what is included at retail) is considered, so budget your time and efforts appropriately. Make sure you read the official challenge rules and stick by them so that you don't wind up accidentally disqualified. For this one, filling gaps and cleaning mold lines will count towards the finished piece. (Other normal challenges they don't since they don't compete with each other for prizes, that is just for this particular contest)

We all knew this day would come eventually. The day where OneBoot tosses the very few marbles she has left into the ocean and throws herself in after them. The blank 4th spot in my lovely Goblin Challenge signature badge has been glaring at me for several months now, and my personal circumstances have now aligned to allow me to attempt this, my final Challenge. For those of you unfamiliar with Goblin Painting Challenges, started by our very own @buglips*the*goblin, here is a link to his Kaladrax thread that started it all: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/51269-kaladrax-in-seven-days-buglips-is-crazy-wip/& The short version of the rules is that I will be painting up Dragons Don't Share - 2014 edition in 7 days, using no brushes larger than a size 0. Here's the long version of the rules: You are all invited to join me in my descent into further madness! But only if you bring chocolate and gummy worms. On a personal note, out of all 4 Goblin Challenges, this is actually the one I've been the most nervous about all along (yes, even more so than Ma'al Drakar). Those adventurers are likely to prove to be 5 lovely little time sinks for me, and I'll have to concentrate very hard not to get caught up in all those beautiful details on them! But who knows, maybe it'll end up being the terrain that eats all my time and sanity; we get to find out together! My general plan is as follows: The first couple of days will focus on brown linering and basecoating ALL THE THINGS, while also putting on faces and eyes while my hands are still fairly steady. I will work primarily on the adventurers the first few days, but will take 'breaks' to work on the terrain and the dragon in between to let my eyes and hands relax a bit from the tiny work. My aim is to finish the adventurers by the end of Day 4, or at least get them to "good enough" status; fun fiddly detail bits can be added after this point if I have time, but even without those the figures could be declared done. My final day will likely be focused on finishing up the terrain, and possibly the dragon's wings. Not sure about that yet, but that's what I anticipate. Showing off my freshly painted goblin 7 day challenge Ma'al drakar. This challenge was not what I was expecting. I thought that attempting a miniature of this size in a short time span would stress me out, but apparently I'm weird because this has been the most relaxing week I've had in a while.

Okay folks, not folks, and whatever else you care to be or not be. Here we go. I am going to attempt the challenge I half-jokingly laid before the Goblin Lunar Emperor when Ma'al Drakar was first introduced to us. Five Heads in Five Days. The Goal, to paint the entire sculpt, including base and terrain piece in under 120 consecutive hours. That is a full five days, using nothing larger than a size 0 brush to apply paint to the figure. The Official rules give a full week of seven days, but I, being completely insane, have decided to attempt to shave two days off that, in honor of the dragons five headed stature. I honestly do not know if it is possible for me to do, and retain any sense of sanity. So, come along for the ride, at best, we get to see a feat of daring do conquered, at worst, you get to watch my mind degrade even farther. For you the viewer, I would call that a win/win.

Most likely, I will be working on this some more post challenge, so I wanted to get a show off up before I change too much....if that's a thing that I do.

Not gonna lie, I'm really nervous about this one. I may be making a terrible mistake, but I am going to be attempting to paint this giant 5 headed dragon in 7 days with a size 0 brush while working my usual work schedule that tends to run around 56 hours. I will have a 3 day weekend to end it out, but I originally wanted to take a solid week off to do this, but my work situation may be changing in the next couple of months - nothing bad, mind you, but I might not have as much time off as I have in previous years and I'd rather not wait until the holidays to see how things shake out. Let's be real here, doing this particular challenge while working a 56 hour week is not just crazy, it's stupid. But it's what I have to work with and I am probably both crazy and stupid. I have the added complication that we are probably going to get a lot of throw off rain coming over from Harvey and my area does flood, so I may lose even more hours if I get stuck at the office or stuck in the grocery parking lot waiting for the water to go down. Or the power could go out and I will have to paint by candlelight. Everybody keep your fingers crossed for me that such things will not occur. So here's my version of the roolz. Once the size 0, being the correct number, be reached, then lobbest thy size 0 brush towards thy foe, who being made of Bones, shall be painted. 2) 7 full days (168 consecutive hours) from when the timer starts are all the time that is allowed in this challenge; whether that time is spent working, sleeping, painting or sobbing uncontrollably is up to the participant. The timer starts with the posting of a picture of all of the many pieces of Ma'al Drakar and the intended brush(es) to be used and a device bearing the participant's local time. The challenge will therefore end at the same time 7 days (168 consecutive hours) later or whenever the task is declared as completed prior to time running out, or whenever the participant should happen to pass out and/or expire. 3) All visible areas must be painted, and all paint must be applied with a regulation brush. Putting a blindfold on oneself in an attempt to bypass this rule will not work. 4) Boiling to correct warpage and scrubbing the model to remove casting residue are the only prep tasks allowed prior to the timer being started. Removing mold lines, greenstuffing or otherwise altering the original sculpt in any way beyond factory spec is prohibited and way not cool, man. 5) All pieces as included in the box set at retail must be painted. This means no pretending that you aesthetically prefer a 4 headed dragon and thus cut off one of the heads to avoid painting it. 6) Each participant must declare in their thread title that it is an attempt at completing a 7 day challenge so that the organizer can make note of the participant's valiant effort and the rest of the community can watch the fascinating downward spiral into insanity. 7) After declaration of completion, the participant will have 2 hours to submit their official entry photos in the Official Entries thread. Up to 5 pictures per entry may be submitted. Failure to submit photos within the given 2 hour period may result in a sudden onset of spontaneous human combustion. It is not appropriate to include pictures of oneself in the official entries thread, not only would that be strange, but everyone knows that cameras steal your soul. 8) Failure to complete the Goblin Challenge in the allotted time may result in the participant becoming a goblin themselves, although in rare cases, the participant may have the option of completing a labyrinth in 13 hours to avoid this penalty. The inclusion of a singing referee in too-tight pants in this additional penalty round is, unfortunately, no longer an option. The participant waves all responsibility of the challenge organizer should they fail and thus become a goblin, or should they lose their head or other various body parts, become trapped in an oubliette forever, or find themselves plagued by an eternal stench. I will be starting approximately 8 hours from now, or whenever I manage to get home from work. Oh and by the way, I haven't been able to get myself to paint very much for the past few months. Home from work, dogs fed,chickens fed - ready to go. I think. I have the next 3 days off work so hoping to get lots of time to paint.

Actually, I'm starting this tomorrow. I'm starting the thread now so that @buglips*the*goblin has a chance to check in and add my name to the list of bat-crap crazy whackjobs taking this on. And, you know. Pelt somebody with a stanky shoe, 'cause why not. As this is a Goblin Challenge, it will follow the Challenge Rules, as stated in this thread: I am .. not sure I know WTF I'm doing, but whatever, I'm a girlblin, I'm not known for sanity, and I pelt people with chili-bombs. So. Maal's been washed and dry-fitted, and I've said a lot of bad words about all the ratzenfraggin' holes in the wings and ... done exactly nothing about any of it, because I'm not breaking out the knife and greenstuff until tomorrow. But! The PLAN, if plan there can be said to be had, is that tomorrow, day one, will be mostly line-trimming, gap-filling and wing-patching, and possibly linering the base. After that, painting will proceed apace; and here's a picture of Maal'dryfitted to prove I have all the pieces, and amuse everybody. I couldn't find Sir Forscale, so I used a quarter. Let the commentating begin! ... don't get nuts, I'd like to be able to start this tomorrow and only be on page one or two. ;p

It begins! This is my fourth beastalicious BIG THING, so I am now officially a Grizzled Veteran. Now once again I take the field to vanquish something huge with my heroic, and teeny tiny, brush. Sooooo.... I did this little thing last week... no big deal, just painted DDS2 in 7 days with nothing larger than a size 0 brush. WIP is here if you missed it: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/72422-guindyloo-vs-dds2-in-7-days/ I pulled it out of the pantry to take a few extra pictures......so it's a lot of pictures. And because it's me, the pictures are terrible. I try, I really do, but I'm just extremely incompetent when it comes to taking pictures. First of all, group shots: Then here are some natural daylight shots that I took between my patio door and curtains. It's frustratingly hard to get true to colour pictures of any kind of green-ish blue and for some reason, I can only get the left side of the dragon's face to show properly in regular daylight. I don't know why I can't get the right side of the face to show properly. Treasure piles, which were one of the last things that I painted and shockingly, my hands stayed pretty steady for it. And finally some unfortunately terrible pictures of the adventurers: C&C always very, very welcome!

I am declaring victory! This is my Khanjira. There are many like it, but this one is mine. It is my doom. I must master it as I must master my death. Without me my Khanjira is mildly peckish. ... wait, that's something else. Started on Boxing Day, and didn't get a bunch of time to work on it a few of the days, but I managed to grind it out. There's definitely room for improvement, but my goal was to get it to the point where I can put it on the table during a game and be happy about it, and I've achieved that. I do still want to put it on a more rigid base (I'll probably do up a fancy piece of MDF at some point) but that's not required for the goblin challenge and I needed to get this thing off my elfing desk so I can work on something else. Dunno what else to say... Any questions?

Removing mold lines, greenstuffing or otherwise altering the original sculpt in any way beyond factory spec is prohibited. 4) The timer starts with the posting of a picture of DDS2 and my intended brush(es) to be used and a device bearing my local time. The challenge will therefore end at the same time 7 days (168 consecutive hours) later or whenever I complete the task prior to time running out. This is going to hurt a lot and I'm not absolutely certain that I'm going to be able to finish in time since I am not in any way, shape or form a speed painter, despite my past challenge victories. I've got the full 7 days at my disposal though and a giant case of energy drinks so I'm going to give it my best and try very hard not to get caught up in spending a billion hours on the adventurers like I would normally do. I'll be starting somewhere around 12-ish hours from now... so I should probably go and unbox DDS2 now.

Decided to throw my hat in the ring and paint up Khanjira as a goblin challenge. Plan is to start tomorrow (Boxing Day) sometime in mid-afternoon. This may not be my best plan ever, as I appear to be suffering the edge of a nasty stomach flu, but I don't get a lot of good opportunities with enough free time to take stuff like this on so I'm going to do my best to take advantage of it. It's time! (Well, not right now, but a little bit later it will be....you know). I'm starting a week of stay-cation tonight (our on-call schedule is Tuesday to Tuesday. is it a pain for vacations, yes, but it avoids all the Monday holiday switching stuff....) and as my only real plan was to not be at work I thought it was time I got in on the, umm, fun? that is the 7 day Goblin Challenge. My opponent for the week will be Khanjira, the supposed World Breaker (honestly, I dropped him and he barely even cracked the world, hardly a scratch). Here is a candid shot of him relaxing in the hot tub yesterday....doesn't look so tough to me.... Official start time will be sometime this evening, when we get back from the office Christmas tree lighting and fireworks. (That's right, I'm kicking off my 7 day challenge with fireworks!! )

Alright y'all! I started this goblin challenge at 0830, stopped at 9 to resume at 1020. Completed at 1830! Mashaaf is complete. Revel in my victory! Whew! I only used a size 0 brush, and I completed this in 10 hours total. I love how gross he is. What do you think?!

Well, because I'm so awesome at life, I have done zero of the allowed prep work. My desk is a mess, with most of my paint bottles spread out all over it instead of in their racks, I've not even completely taken Khanjira out of the packaging, much less dry-fit or scrubbed or boiled him. Oh and I'm at work right now and will be for the next 8 or so hours. This is just one of those times where you know you've got nothin' to lose, but, you know, yolo. Laaaaaadies and Geeeeeeeeeentlemen!!! Welcome to the Epic 7-day Challenge Khanjira battle: OneBoot vs. Buglips! OneBoot issued the Challenge! Buglips accepted! They will be following the standard rules! (Rules reposted here for clarity) 1. You may use no brushes larger than Size 0. As Size 0 can vary by company and brand, the average bristle dimensions are 10mm long by 1mm wide. When selecting brushes, try to be as close to this guideline as possible. 2. You have 7 full days to complete from your posted start time (including a picture with a time stamp from a phone or computer screen is helpful to establish this) to complete the model. 3. All visible areas must be painted, and all paint must be applied with a regulation brush. 4. No drilling, filing, mold line removal or other prepwork is permitted before start time. The only preparation allowed is to dry fit your pieces to make sure the model is complete, and do any boiling and reshaping necessary to correct warpage and return the model to "factory spec". You may also clean the pieces with soap and water. 5. All pieces as included in the box set at retail must be painted. This includes, for example, the 5 adventurer figures included with Dragons Don't Share 2. So the only way for me to do a goblin challenge is while working for at least part of it - I'm at work as I type this and have been since early this morning. I spent yesterday putting together my new paint racks, organizing and cleaning my desk so I have a fresh start to my working space and then doing a dry fit to make sure I had all of Kaladrax's parts, boiling the parts that bothered me (probably poorly) and giving him a good scrub down. Mmm, just like mom's spaghetti. I will begin this evening as soon as I'm home from work and ready to go - probably around 7pm CST. Note: I may or may not log onto the google hangout while working on Kaladrax. As fond of you people as I am, I may not be in a talking mood or may need to zone out listening to music instead of trying to pay attention to and/or participate in a conversation. Don't be too disappointed, I'll be doing audio only anyway. If you see me on the hangout and I don't respond, or I randomly mute myself or drop out entirely without warning, (so, you know, just like any other night...) please don't take offense. It's my understanding that this challenge is going to be particularly mentally grueling and frustrating at times, so I don't want to take that out on anyone else.

Yep, it is time. The players are getting awfully close to the point in my game where Kaly will be necessary. Minor spoilers for Paizo's Wrath of the Righteous adventure path: So general color scheme for an undead silver dragon: Warm, dirty bone colors for the bones, blues for the squishy bits on the body, blue/silver for the wing membranes, dirty, scorched, broken stones for the base. Brushes should be size 0 or no bigger than 1 mm round and 10 mm long. They must only start this size and may be clipped, crushed, and otherwise mutilated during the course of the challenge. 2. The challenge shall run for 7 consecutive days or 168 consecutive hours. 3. The only prep work allowed before the timer is boiling and washing of the model. All alteration and assembly will be done after the timer starts. 4. The challenge will begin with a post of Kaly along with a clock showing the local date and time. The timer runs out at the same time 7 days later. The preparations: Cleaned model The brushes with handy measuring device The paints (at least the starting ones. The idea is to reduce the time I spend digging for that one bottle I think I need) Pictures added.

Right. So, while I am not officially part of the challenge issued by OneBoot to Buglips (silly kitty, goblins win at everything *cough*), joining the party seemed like a good idea at the time. Now I'm committed. So! Prepare yourself, Kaiju! You will be painted! Bwehahahahaa! As I am doing this Challenge style, I am sticking to certain Roolz: No brushes large than size 0! These are some tiny brushes. In order to maintain compliance, I have cleared all larger brushes, sponges, q-tips and other items from reach. The kaiju shall be painted in seven days! I will be starting this party at 4PM PST, and finishing it ... um. before today in a week. Or I will go crazy. We'll see. Post painting, I have only washed the kaiju. All other prep is forbidden until I actually begin the challenge! I must paint all the things, and all the things must be painted! Fortunately, Khanjira only includes himself, there are no extra bits or heroes to paint. Being crazy isn't a requirement, although it is likely to be a result. Fortunately, I am already something less than sane so it's likely no one will notice a difference. I plan to paint an epic kaiju Tarresque, so there will be lots of purple paint. Whee!
