Finished this girl up today. My first stab at NMM using the NMM Gold triad - it didn't come out quite like I imagined, but then, it was a LOT of surface area to attempt it on .. Regardless, she was a lot of fun to paint up and even with the botched NMM, she's still a beauty. Also, the camera (the wife's Canon Powershot) made these pictures look sort of greenish - I don't know why.. I don't get this look with the phone camera.. /shrug :) Also, her claws are done in Antique Gold because I thought she should be a flashy lady. Because she's fighting for her life (or will be once I finish the evil adventuring party), I added fresh scorch marks for the holes in her wings. This was accomplished by blobbing on a bit of Pure Black and rubbing it around with my finger while it was still wet. Finger Painting a dragon.. who knew? I found what looks like a scar across her eye, but decided that since she's in the fight of her life right now, she might as well have a fresh wound. Coated the scar line with Gory Red. Then I dabbed a blob of Clotted Red at the bottom of the cut-line and blew it around to mimic the effects of moving her head while the fresh blood was flowing. (also thanks to @Pingo for the suggestion to use @Guindyloo's tutorial for eyes - I love how they came out ) Critique, comments and suggestions welcome as always.. WIP Here.
Playing by the rules, as they stand now, I have started a Project specific WIP for the Young Fire dragon. My better half saw my version of EbonWrath as a blue dragon and wanted one of her own. While not sure what dragon she wants me to purchase to paint for her... she is still thinkling on this.. I have painted her up the Young Fire dragon. I first boiled the wings to gain some seperation (yay bones) as they were almost vertical. Below is the base coat of GOLDEN Shadow with Some Blue wing bones. Then while waiting for work to complete some system implementations so I could do my part remotely (couldnt leave the computer area), I motored on today and got the wings and body mostly done. I still have not decided on the base for the dragon so I have not done more than base coat the feet. Again I apologise for my poor camera skills.. remember this guy would be a pet for Sir Forscale.. equivalent to a small pony I would say. The white 'Broccoli' base will be coming off once I design him his own custom environments. Suggestions for this are welcome. Also any critiques or stuff you like please feel free to add any feedback. It is a WIP.
http://www.reapermini.com/forum/index.php?/topic/51907-wip-gold-dragon-from-pinning-to-hopefully-completion/ So from this WIP, I've finally got this dragon finished. Got the grass applied last night. It seemed like it would never end but finally it's done. Now I've got to figure out what's next. I think I actually enjoyed painting this dragon reasonably well. I also think I can appreciate Bones a little more in the aspect of their weight. This dragon, even though not too large ended up being pretty heavy and I dropped him a time or two and kept constantly knocking his tail into my lamp. I have a feeling that dropping a Bones dragon wouldn't have worried me that much and it probably would have never scratched. Anyhow, enjoy!
So after I got my really groovy pin vise from those fine folks at Hobby Lobby, I've been itching to actually pin something with it. I have tons of different stuff I could choose from but finally came upon this Ral Partha Gold Dragon from their Council of Wyrms. As I started working on it, I started photographing it, so figured I'd do a WIP out of, which I hadn't done since I'd painted up some Drow Elves a while back ago. Hopefully it's not too tedious to watch, and I've got oodles of pictures of the dragon in various states of pinning, so if you get bored, I apologize. I think I'm using this as some kind of therapy, with the hopes that if I photograph it, I'll actually have to finish it sooner or later. I'm also working on three dwarves and an Amazon chick at the same time, which I imagine will all get done before the dragon, but if you never start you'll never finish. It's a gold dragon, so my main color will end up being Palomino Gold, and his underbelly I think I'm going to start out as cream ivory, with his wings and feet being buckskin tan (I think that's the name of the color). I want to probably do the horns in some kind of brown, maybe even start out with earth brown, not sure, and will work from there. So now I've got to figure out how to do all the pictures, which I took so many of. Maybe I'll just describe it ahead of time and then put the photos in at the end. Oh well, I'll figure it out. Anyway, to start out with the model itself, pre-assembly. There's a bit of blood on him, because I ended up stabbing myself with the pin vise. Missed any vital arteries, thank you all for the concern, but after I got some holes drilled, I went and washed him off really good with soap and water.
