This is the very first fig that I ever bought, 8 or 9 years ago. It was for my first D&D session with some close friends, and I fell in love with the game on the spot. This character has gone through a lot: demonic armor possession, lost both of his eyes, had a hole punched through his chest, died 3 times, came back as a zombie, body taken over by a lich, and currently resurrected in the body of a half-ogre. I have a new fig for the character and his new body, but this one will always have a special place in my heart. I finally got around to painting him over the weekend. His eyes are a little googly, and the attempt at highlighting didn't turn out as well as I had hoped, but I'm glad he turned out OK. Tips on highlighting would be most appreciated, as that's what I was trying out on this one. Thanks as always!

I am still not happy with the skin tones I have come up with for my basic Zombicide zombies... Most have been too green. So I wanted to try something more of a pale skin to grey color.. And believe it or not I am out of Bones zombies and that's to experiment on. So I found Goldar who is my proxie zombie. What do you guys think? I am actually happy with this one for two reasons: I painted him I about two hours total and I think this skin tone will work for my standard Zombicide zombies. It is VMC 2 parts basic skin tone to 1 part sky grey. Then a light wash of Army Painter dark tone Ink. Btw... I am going to stick with their ink since it dries in less than an hour, rather than two days for their quick shade dip. Once I get a Caucasian zombie skin I like, then I will have to work on an African zombie skin tone to add some variety.

I've been painting on this guy whenever I had leftover paint for the last year or so; it seemed like time to finish him up. C&C are welcome, but tips on what to do about his hair would be especially welcome.

As mentioned in the "How did you come across Reaper Miniatures" topic, I just started painting two months ago. Don't feel like you have to go easy on critiques though. First prime, First paint, First wash Goldar (03461), painted grey to be a Goliath. First Boil and Chill (To remove lean), First eyes Dain Deepaxe (77074) First "OMG This is taking too long", First Dry Brush Bone Devil (77325) First Sculpt (cut off wings and used green stuff) Mummy Lich (77147) First highlights, first wet blend, first missing piece! Fire Demon (77315) Shameless copy of Fire Demon painted by mirrordissilution His right hand should be showing up in the mail any day now. Reaper customer support is amazing. There you have it! I left out the bulk paintings of skeletons and oxidation beasts (HAH!) that were hastily done for the campaign I'm running.

It's been a few days since I last posted new work, and now I have three miniatures to show off. First up is my take on Sir Conlan.. I kind of wanted to make him look as if he could be a hero or a villain, to have some ambiguity in the paint scheme regarding his possible allegiance, I also attempted to make his sword's blade look as if it is made of an amethyst crystal. Next up is my take on Malek, the necromancer. My initial idea was to try and make him look as if he could be heroic, but it did not necessarily work for that, he still looks evil to me, but a LOT brighter than most necromancers!!! And lastly, Goldar, the male Barbarian. I just liked the sculpt of the miniature, and tried my hand at giving him face paint and a tattoo on his back, all freehand. Feel free to look, Comments and advice are always happily received!! (edit, close up of barbarian's face added.)

Hey all! It's been a bit since I've been able to paint up anything. I started back to school and between that, the requisite homework accompanying it, and working (as well as trying to make time to see people and sleep somewhere in there) my painting has fallen by the wayside. I've had a little more freetime that I didn't spend doing other things here lately though, and one of the beneficiaries of that was Goldar here. I (like I'm sure others) envisioned him as a D&D goliath. I considered trying to freehand some tattoos on him, but I was too scared to try it and just left him as-is. Maybe one day I'll make an attempt. Sorry for the less-than-stellar photos here. Did them with my phone under a kitchen light (not the light I paint by -- but close).

Here are the latest PC models chosen by my players, painted quickly to get them ready for the game. They are all escaped slaves in the Underdark. I don't recall what names they gave them, just the class. 77047 Goldar - Fighter 77149 Damien - Sorceror 89014 Seltyiel - Druid 77061 Kord - Barbarian 77040 Satheras - Warlock

http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/62318-my-first-mini-unfinished-please-critique-and-suggest/ I tried to post at the end of my first thread, but discovered that I couldn't include an attachment. Can't imagine why, but the 'Attach Files' option at the bottom is missing, and it would do no good to post a request for critiques without displaying the product, so sorry about the dual threads. In short, I wasn't happy with my first attempt as the initial thread says. I made a lot of mistakes and ended up stripping it and making a second attempt from scratch. I primed it with a Krylon flat black spray this time, and then lightened it gradually with layers. Because I probably spent four hours on the thing, I ended up leaving the shoulder piece, boots, and cloak untouched. They are primed and nothing else other than a little polished silver on the protruding nubs. I stole MiniPainterV's YouTube idea about using a cork base as stone and mounted it. I'm also better at photographing now thanks to Slendertroll's advice, though it still needs work. You can't really see the flesh shading very well, but it actually looks better than the photo shows. Critiques? One thing I've still not done and was tempted to try, though I don't want to screw it up, is a wash. I've heard that many painters wash the figure multiple times as they paint, but I'm not sure when or what color to use? Does this figure need it? Black wash heavily thinned? Or would I use brown since the figure is mostly brown? Or is it good to go, you think? The other conclusion I've drawn is that I'm going to have to get better at faster at this hobby or I'll I'm never going to have the minis to play. This was a relatively simple mini. I skipped sections, and it took me probably four hours. I hope it doesn't take you guys that long to do one, does it? I've got forty or fifty minis lined up to be painted and so far, I've painted exactly one. Ugh. Thanks in advance.

For the March painting challenge as I am working slowly through my exchange mini I decided to do some constructs and try my hand at some craft. So I have the Brass Bull, Stone Golem, Battleguard Golem, Goldar and a DMGinfo Bookcase.

My first attempt to modify a Reaper figure. Was just going to replace Goldar's axe but thought his right hand needed something to balance out. The axe was a Halberd shortened and the handle was off another pole-arm, shortened and given detail with a micro-file. The sword is from a Reaper weapons assortment. I cut it apart and drilled out either end and fastened them to the replacement hand using a type of piano wire. The sword and axe have the blades sharpened with micro-files as well. Now to prime and check for any defects I cant see and then figure out a paint scheme. Might add some hair but the bald head looks pretty good as is. I welcome critiques and suggestions! Did a little painting. Working on a commission so this is sitting on the side. Trying to figure out the paint scheme and decide if there is need for hair of some sort. Hello green stuff...

I took a bunch of random Bones to Reapercon to work on over the weekend. They were washed, and then I used brush on primer at the con. Figured I would get some tabletop quality work done while I was socializing. Well, if you were there and trying to paint you know that the humidity was bad and paint *was not* drying, so I didn't get as much done as I had hoped. For example, the wash I used on Duke Gerard took about 45 minutes to dry. On top of that I had crackling on a couple figures. :( I brought them home, stuck them on washers, and plan to finish them up this week. First up, snakeman warrior. This is from the first speed paint of the day. We were given 30 minutes. I always tell myself to stay away from the yellow, because I can't make it work in a speed paint, and then I go and grab the bottle and next thing I know my figure looks like this: I don't normally repaint speed-painted figures but snakey here is getting a full makeover. The rest of Thursday I worked on this pair: Mostly happy with the blacksmith. Need to work on the contrast between Goldar's skin an the leather shoulder armor. Friday I picked up the Thornwarden, and oops, there's that yellow again. Also started on Freya (left) and Isabeau but did not get this far with them until Saturday afternoon: Finally, Sunday I started on Duke Gerard and got a wash on Aina. I basecoated Gerard with two purples, a dark one and a lavender color, but they are nearly indistinguishable when dry. I mixed some white and purple to bring up the details so I could see it. Lot of work left on both of these.

Here are five Bones I painted up to represent the PC's in my Pathfinder game (we're playing the Kingmaker campaign). With these I basically tried to shoot for the best tabletop standard I could muster; I did want them to look good as they are the protagonists of a game we might be playing for some time. However, I also wanted to get them done before the campaign was over (I'm slow), and I knew that my players would soon be handling them at the gaming table with their coffee-stained, pizza-greased little paws (hi guys!). First up is Oviara the Cleric (of Iomedae, Goddess of honor, justice, rulership, and valor), who has so far in the campaign been righteously delivering justice to wrongdoers by sword or rope in an awfully lawful good manner (hey, that's also my first attempt at freehand on the shield there; yay me!). Next is Eral the Sorcerer, who derives his arcane powers from the demonic blood coursing through his veins, and who has been reincarnated repeatedly throughout the millenia awaiting some unknown destiny (the scariest thing with this guy is that he is a strong contender to become the ruler when the group starts establishing their own kingdom later on in the campaign... *shudder*). Here is Theodor the Monk, a fearless man always at the forefront of battle. I cut the axe off Goldar to make him more... monk-y. That axe was always my least favorite part of the sculpt anyway, and also, a real man don't need a weapon to bash in his enemies skulls yo! In contrast, here is someone who isn't bothered by putting an axe to good use. Meet Gothmog the Barbarian, a towering beast of muscle, rage and flatulence, equipped with a surprisingly sensitive soul. Last we come to Solfein the Ranger/Wizard, an elvish youth of only 95 years with the personality of a typical teenager. Unlike most other angsty teens, however, this guy actually has pretty good reason for his dark moods, as he was banished from elven land after having strangled his one true love in a jealous rage. And finally, a group shot. Seeing them together like this, it is clear what a bunch of posers they are; Oviara has climbed up on a little step before gazing off into the distance, it looks like Gothmog is flexing pretty hard under all that armor, and Eral and Theodor have even ripped their shirts off for the camera. So far in the campaign, the gang has been valiantly combating these terrible monstrosities, but sooner or later they're going to have to face off against this guy, at which point posing cutely in front of the camera will simply not be enough...

Here he is last night, base coated and washed. Goldar, Male Barbarian (77047) - 0001.jpg And finished and based, with some Testors Dullcote: Goldar, Male Barbarian (77047) - 0005.jpg Goldar, Male Barbarian (77047) - 0006.jpg If I was to critique myself, I would say that it's time to try a bit more blending on my next one, with an intermediate highlight, and maybe some small extreme hightlights. My highlights were too light, so I had to go back with a flesh wash and blue wash to bring them down a bit. I will also remember to paint the eyes early. I am getting the hang of dilution, but probably need to be less afraid of wasting paint, since the little dabs I work with tend to not be fully mixed, so are weak and chalky. I'll start working with more figures at once so I can use the excess paint next time.

After the vacation from hell, and my grandmother's passing, I'm finally getting back to work. Goldar is presented here as a Half-Orc, for our Pathfinder game. My brother in law made a pathfinder character which looks like savage dragon, and of course there are no savage dragon minis. So he requested one of me. Goldar ended up being a great mini for him, just added a fin (which I've been getting practice at), switched out his axe for a spear, and added a naga head to his belt. Whatever species the character is worships nagas, and his guy is evil, so he killed one and carries it around as a trophy. Unfortunately the camera washed out the colour on him. The green is much brighter, and has more highlights, and the naga head is a bit grayer. Cause it's dead and decayed. Comments, critique, suggestions all appreciated. Before I send it to Wyoming.
