  1. One thing about SPACE: it's a bad place to have a breakdown. Spaceships are expensive and complicated; they are your entire world and means of survival out in the black. Lucky for you, the Zap Bros are here! Danny, Joe, and Grexlar founded an interplanetary franchise of mobile repair stations. Danny is an Earth-human businessman, formerly ran a shipyard parts supply store. First-rate at logistics. Joe is an uplifted gorilla, a mechanical genius. If it can be taken apart and put back together, Joe is the ape for the job. If it can't, that just takes him a bit longer. Grexlar is a Martian engineer and physicist, a master diagnostician. Mass-drive, fusion, fission, gravitronics, hyperdrive manifold, warp modulator--no matter what should make the ship go, he can figure out why it won't. After going into business in the Asteroid Belt and making a pile (credits, friends, and favors) the three started expanding the business into a chain. You could populate a small moon with the beings who owe their life to a Zap Bros Rescue & Tow. In fact, the O'Neill cylinder "Long Day's Journey Into Night" did just that. More angles of the three: The Zap Bros have very high standards for whom they hire, but pay excellent wages and have no species restrictions. Robots welcome! *** Specifics: Danny is a mechanic from CP's Sci-fi Civilians line. Joe is Crooked Dice's Starport Fueler modified with Green Stuff. Grexlar is Reaper's Alien Tracker--I can't find the SKU for the metal guy but he's part of the Bones 49001, Alien Overlords set. The desk is also Crooked Dice, and the big-screen monitor is from Bombshell's galley and rec area set. The simpler robot is also Bombshell, MaCbot. The repair specialist bot is a Warmachines Convergence fella bought secondhand. The asteroid ship is a bunch of kitbashed junk, mostly Christmas ornaments and several GW greebles. Stay safe out there, cadets!
  2. I spent a couple of hours on this yesterday but lost the light for photos. This is one of the gorillas from the Ape Attack! add on to the Bones 4 Core set.
  3. Look at that title. Are you made of stone? You want to see exactly that thing, and brother, sister or other, THAT IS WHAT WE GOT HERE. Painted mostly with GW contrast, reaper sample green, and some craft-store metallics. My favorite detail: the comparatively dainty holster for a big ol' drum-fed gun. Here's the big fella with the rest of General Jombi's Guerilla Troops (also from Eureka, posted elsewhere): And because I already had the camera out, here's All the Apes I Got.
  4. Thread title pretty much sums it up. This is Callus the Renegade from Black Orc’s Hundred Kingdoms, sculpted by Jason Wiebe: There is is a lot going on here, from chain, scale, and plate to all the spangly bits and Things on Belts. Tried to add some variety of color where possible. Not sure what actual colors were worn by Roman soldiers, but red is popular among cosplayers according to Google. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t purple at least. Turns out Dark Elf Skin is a pretty good approximation of actual gorilla flesh. It also seems that brown is not a popular color for actual gorilla fur, but whatever. I was unsure just what that thing in his left hand is, so I imagined it as some sort of monkey-headed scepter, and painted it up in Dragon Copper and Antique Gold. Mostly as an excuse to try out some GW verdigris. I probably miffed the placement, but it’s a neat effect. Very much a “nasty old penny” look. Did I mention this guy is big? Here he is alongside Miss Forscale the Strumpet: Comments and critiques appreciated!
  5. Sorry, I don't think he has a number yet. Continuing on with my Savage Avatars.
  6. I’m a bit late, but I finally started back painting late last year. Here’s what I managed to accomplish in 3 months. And a few close-ups of my favorites... Goremaw the Scarlet Worm is over in the Large Mini contest: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/73889-2017-annual-contest-single-figure-100mm-reaper-entries/&do=findComment&comment=1669304 A Yeti (77436) in a non-standard coat pattern 77418 Xiao Liu (Painted as a Pathfinder Suli: none of the official artwork shows them as having discernible pupils.) 77511 Xiloxoch, Guardian Naga Gorilla from Bones 3 77232 Mogg, Bugbear Warrior
  7. For a while I had been pondering what figure to use for the White Gorilla creature from the Frostgrave rules. Then one day, while looking for something else, I spotted the Ape Demon figure from the Bones II Lesser Demons set, and I thought, "Why not?" Maybe the White Gorillas of Frostgrave are the descendants of some bizarre experiment of a misguided wizard long ago who thought it would be a good idea to cross a bat with a gorilla. (Maybe so he could quickly run errands for him through the crowded city. That's why he has the one big ear; (so he can hear his master call him home), and the big hands so he can carry all the grocery shopping!) Over the centuries the wings have become flightless, but they still make the creature look fearsome. :) I really like how he turned out. And I think he fills the role of descendant of bizarre wizard's experiment just as well as he did as his intended use as a demon! :) Step by step painting article on my blog: http://allbonesabout.blogspot.com/2016/09/ape-demon-bones-ii-figure.html
  8. This is another Bones miniature designed by Jason Wiebe — 80001: Ape-X. I think that a gorilla's skin would tend to be blacker than this, but that made it very monochromatic, so I browned it up a bit. And here it is again, photographed from every angle, just in case you really need to know what it would look like from a rear three-quarter view.
  9. Currently working my way through the Bones I KS Chronoscope set, and painted Ape-X this week. I wanted to paint him to look a little more Victorian Science Fiction than regular futuristic Science Fiction, so I planned on lots of iron and brass along with some natural leathers in my color scheme. I'm really pleased with how this big boy turned out. I had originally been hesitant to paint him due to his size, but I realized after I started that much of the figure is simply skin or fur, and in the end it went rather quickly. For the complete painting write-up, please my blog: http://allbonesabout.blogspot.com/2015/09/ape-x-figure-171-of-265.html
  10. I fashioned his poncho after the man with no name's from the Good the Bad and the Ugly.
  11. I feel like he isn't very interesting. Any suggestions on how I could add interest for next time?
  12. After the arrival of Eastern Front Studios Dwarf Gladiators, I was inspired to do more of a fantasy Ludus. First off: Dwarves.
