This was a technique people asked about after I posted these: I'm not terribly comfortable with basing; handling glues and sand and tiny tufts of fake grass leaves me cold and worried about things holding together for games. But I do have a lot of painting experience. I have found I prefer to paint illusionistic bases rather than try to sculpt and assemble them.   3. Hey! We're finally done! Here's 4 different views, and please, let me know how I can improve on this. I'm still having camera issues though. This is a combination of an Ott light, an overhead dinner table light, plus a 100W reveal bulb. They're obviously at very different temperatures, but hopefully I'll be able to rectify that soon.   4. Finally got some painting done this weekend and finished up this fellow. I was initially going to go with something a bit more human looking, where he was going to have Mediterranean skin tones, so I started off with dusky skin. About partway through, I decided to go with a more rocky looking appearance, so I shaded with some agrax earthshade. Since I was making him look more like rock and soil, I thought grass for body hair might be an interesting choice. It doesn't look so great here, but the effect's a bit better in person.
