My first figure 2021. I started painting about 2 years and took a year+ off from it. I decided to get back into and got some new paints and brushes for Xmas. Still working on my technique and would like to hear your opinion.

Finally finished this warrior from darksword miniatures. He's going to be used for my 2-handed greatsword paladin in a new D&D group that starts tomorrow. For the most part I'm pretty happy with how he turned out. One of these days I really need to take the time and try some NMM. I didn't highlight and shade the face as much as it should have been and the hair was mostly dry brushed as there wasn't much sculpting of strands of hair in certain parts. Comments and suggestions are welcome as always!

I'm going to be playing in a second D&D group starting in a couple of weeks so I decided to get started on painting up my new character. I'm using darksword miniatures male warrior as my 2-handed vengeance paladin. It's really the only two handed weapon sculpt I could find that I really liked. I decided to just leave him on his base with how the sword is. I had to assemble the hand with the sword as there were two options for weapons, the greatsword and a great axe. Mold lines really weren't too bad. I decided to go with a red cloak since he's going to be from the order of the gilded eye. Their symbol looks to be a red background with a white gauntlet with an eye on the fist. I don't think I'm going to add the symbol to the cloak. Maybe if he had a shield I would give some freehand a try. Most of the base base coating is completed and I got started on the eyes. The armor I base coated a dark grey as I plan to highlight up from there to make the armor white. So the only areas the base coat should be showing is the shaded areas. I might add or subtract some gold details on the armor as I progress. Also the boots seem like they should be leather the more that I look at the details. For the most part they don't look too bad. I'm going to try and get the black outline a little thinner when I do the skin. Also the left eye is a little larger than the right, but I don't think it looks too bad. I'm undecided on touching it at this point because I don't want to really mess it up.

Wizards of the Coast's Dungeons & Dragons Fire Giant Stalking the Steps This 25mm scale Fire Giant isn't humongous by today's miniature line standards but he has a lot of character. The sculptors, Chaz Elliot and then apprentice, Jason Wiebe, put a lot of great detail into this fellow. I personally love the knowing grin on his face. However, partly because of the scale and the sculpted position of the giant, I felt he wasn't set up right. So he was reposed a smidge. When I first looked him over at the work table, I held him on a slab of slate and tried to visualize him on a game board. It's fairly obvious that he was originally meant to be looking down at the puny humans before him but against the more prolific 28-32mm scale miniatures I own, he was looking at their chests or groins. So after playing around with slate pieces such, I finally figure him out. He needed his sword level. Well his arms were tight to his chest so repositioning the weapon that way would require practically resculpting him. But ... if I cut apart the integral base and and changed the elevation of his feet he looked like he was slinking up some stairs. Thus the step and repose. You can check out his painting WIP. This guy was a lot of fun and, at the same time, very frustrating. I tend to assemble completely then paint. It's a personal preference, but this guy had enough gribbly bits that I felt I would do it a disservice. I'm very happy with how he turned out, even if the photos aren't as good as I'd like them to be. This is always a frustration with me, but these photos really don't do the poor soul any justice. The horse, however, is probably the worst thing in the figure, I used references, but still came out waaaay too flat, but it looks okay-ish all together. Dismounted: C&C Welcome!

One would think I would tire of painting fire Giants. I love Giants of all stripes, but Fire Giants hold a special place in the stone I use in lieu of a heart. This guy was released in the lated 90's as part of the 25th anniversary line. I've got two of them, but this one is the only one painted, and he was completed earlier this year (I believe he was in one of my WIP threads in 2014 or so). Very simply painted to moderate tabletop, the base is a 2 inch fender washer, with the rest of it filled with Greenstuff and sculpted with both a tool and some tin foil. The rocks on the base really show up well in the photos, and I think it was Derek Schubert who posted up a wip to sculpt rocks FOREVER ago, and those are my results (thank you Derek if you read this!). He'll be used as a D&D monster as well as one of Prince Robu's bodyguards in Song of Blades and Heroes and possibly Dragon Rampant. The last two fire giant males have this same kind of grin on their faces, which makes me laugh. As always, C&C welcome!

So! I haven't painted as much as I've wanted to this summer, sadly. I planned to do more, but it just got away from me amid other things. I like how Deenah came out for the most part, but I'm not thrilled with her hair or skin. I'm not sure what to do to make blonde hair look good. Use light browns for a shadow? And then human skin continues to be a hit or miss experience for me. I tried to use the Rosy Skin triad, but I don't know if my skill is just too poor to showcase the difference in tint/shade between the triad colors, or if they need a little help to get them to pop against each other a bit more. Or maybe it's fine. I don't know. Edit: reshot the pics.

I present the Rackham Inquisitor Griffin 1. I painted this guy a while back.. Before I started trolling these forums... before KS1... He was for a DND character that was Fighter/Barbarian/Pious Templar of Kord. I tried to follow the "Factory" paint job, but realized too quickly it is hard to blend white armor and make it look good. So I ended up just lining it with Gray. It's relatively sloppy. I sculpted the floor he's standing on with Green Stuff. The skulls were part of the sculpt. Paints were Vallejo Game Color He should be suitable for my Rise of the Runelords PBP 2-H Fighter.

This is one of the male characters in my RPG group. I added the ax weapon to the original charter.

This was a figure that an RPG player asked me to paint for him. It was his character in the game and wanted me to paint him a vignette figure that he could place into his bookshelf case. It was a very nice figure and I enjoyed painting it.
