  1. So finally got good pics of this, it's a Ghostark for my son Playboy's Necron army, a GW model thingy, for 40K.
  2. My next batch. I think the freehand's getting better, a bit. I tried to get a little fancier with the roman numerals, didn't like it as well. But now on to the next five!
  3. finished my Chaplain for my Luna Wolves :) Finally got better lighting and some better pictures. Still a line or two on him I wish I had done a better job on greenstuffing :( Really liked painting this model, it has a lot of details and I had a lot of fun painting the "plasma" effect on the gun. And a shot of him with the models I've completed thus far:
  4. Here is a project that I really got to get into. My client wanted an Imperial Knight that had turned to Tzeentch. It was to be allied with his Chaos Daemons force, so it did not need to be a Thousand Sons Knight. There is only a little bit of conversion here- the head was swapped out for the head of a High Elf Phoenix. Otherwise, the alignment was all down to coloration. I wend with a blue to purple fade for most of the armor plating- I felt this was right for the god of change, and the bright pink contrasted nicely with that (and also matched a force composed largely of pink horrors). Of course, it isn't right to leave any Imperial Knight mini without freehand, so I made sure to get a lot of the Changing God's iconography all over him.
  5. Some Games Workshop skaven, which I use for wererats :) I sort of went for a polluted/radioactive look for the base...
  6. Here's a piece that I painted up for a Dark Eldar force that I've been adding to over the years. My client had the idea of having him missing most of his skin. I'm definitely keen on adding gruesome details like that to minis. So, here he is:
  7. Six archers of a Lost Army, from a Lost Kingdom, from a Lost World — six unwavering ghosts, standing defiantly in wedge formation: Reliqua Bretonnia In Memoriam
  8. my latest 5 space marines, apologies in advance I know one of the pics came out blurry but I can't take time to redo it atm supposed to be packing :P
  9. So this is one of the minis I did for my March RP challenge, coincidentally (not) it's also for Wyrd's Iron Painter Challenge Round 1 the theme of which is Pretty in Pink. I have to say, I'm not keen on pink, but I do like very much how this came out. I did two new things, in painting this figure, I did "warpaint" and I painted a kind of kilt. It's not going to win anything but I do very much like this guy and think he's one of my best to date. (Overflow of pics incoming) Official pic, since you can only have one I did a collage (in paint my only graphics proggie): And the separate versions:
  10. I've been working on my Fabulous Force and so far I gotta say they're turning out better than I expected. But there's so much room for them to be better... For example, while the whole point of these guys is to be PINK!!! I can't help but find it a bit too monotonous. Especially on the back. It probably wouldn't take much to accent it and break up the pink a bit, I'm just not sure what to do. Opinions would be very appreciated, on any aspect of the mini. Edit: Show-off thread here.
  11. I know I disappeared ages ago and all, but I'm kind of back =] I've still been painting, winter just got me into a bit of a funk about it (I don't have a proper setup, I paint on my couch, so sadly I can't set up a daylight lamp), but now that the days are lengthening again, I'm starting to get back into it. So I've ended up owning two lots of Fenrisian Wolves - the first pack, I started painting as elemental sparkle wolves, haha, but I've stalled a bit with them, so I grabbed a second pack and painted them up a bit more normally... So here they are. My apologies, my mini photography is a bit rusty now. A variety of Citadel paints and a couple of P3 paints, largely drybrushed on, all wolves primed black with Army Painter spray, and bases done with cork (rocks), and assorting Army Painter bits of foliage and stuff. Sand from the beach for dirt, etc =P
  12. Not really pleased with my CAV guys, can't get them to look like I have in my head =/ But, done for now, and at least they have colour on them :( The Heavy Bolter guy is done, with my first attempt at freehanding a luna wolf symbol on his shoulder. Hopefully I'll get better. At least it sorta looks ...doglike. Right? And the big grey guy's the dreadnought, which I also tried to do the symbol on, bit easier maybe because his shoulder's flat. I am probably going to go back and add weathering when I'm all done, but I haven't figured out that part yet.
  13. Sorry in advance for kinda bad pic, had to use my phone:
  14. This is one of the five in the set, which I've been working on in my WIP thread. he's my test dummy for the theme, which is Luna Wolves. A white/black colour scheme which I converted to be light grey and black instead. I've always liked the Luna Wolves, in the stories from Horus Heresy, before they fractured into Sons of Horus and loyalists, so my take on them is right before the loyal Luna Wolves know that their Primarch, Horus, turned to the dark side as it were (aka Chaos). They were dropped on Isstvan III, where they expected to meet resistance, but it was actually a ploy to get all the loyalist elements in one place. Horus then virus bombed the planet and killing off almost all of the resistance to his take over. Anyway, so, my basing is based on fairly new wreckage of an urban type area.
  15. This is the Technicolor Wolf's fault... Here are some Citadel Goblin Chariots and wolf Riders that I painted up back in collage in the '90s... The Box: Full Crew: Only the Chariot with the Severed Dwarf head on a spike, and it's body nailed to the tongue got finished for some reason.... This Chariot was a blister pack, with a spell caster goblin as the passenger. Never did paint the crew... The harnesses on the wolves are more advanced on this model... And 4 different wolf Riders... I have the crew for the Spellcaster's Chariot, as well as the other chariot from the box set and it's crew, plus another Box chariot with a 3 wolf team still in the box... Maybe someday they will see paint.... George Notice the boxes say Citadel and not GW?
  16. I got a box of GW minis about 6 years ago, called "Empire Free Company". I guess they're still available? At any rate, they've been sitting unpainted for a long time but I need soldiers for Frostgrave, so I've been painting up these guys. As with the other soldiers I've been painting for Frostgrave, they're an exercise in getting stuff done quick and reasonably decent - I'm not worried about perfection, just something that doesn't look ridiculous, and that doesn't take more than a few hours to do a batch. I don't have a ton of painting time, and I have a lot to get through, so... First: Some random minion dudes with melee weapons. Looking at the pics, I can see a ton of mistakes that I feel like I should go back and correct, but honestly, for tabletop use... these guys'll do. I've achieved my aim of making 'em not look ridiculous (mostly) and that's all I need. Time to move on to the next project. I may come back and at least do the metal studs on the guys I forgot to do that on but my hands are shaky tonight and honestly, I doubt anyone but me will ever notice once these guys are on the table, and I have a lot of other people waiting to be painted up, so it might not happen for a while. (Is it weird of me to be proud of the highlight I put on the bum of the middle guy in the bottom picture? Because I think it worked out well and I'm proud of it. ) Second: Some crossbowmen. Also from the same set. These ones I made blonde, because... uh... why not, I guess? As a random note, for those curious: The "white" shirts on these guys all started with a base coat of Moldy Skin (09149). There are a few spots of pure white, but very tiny; most of the shirt still has a fair bit of Moldy Skin showing through. It was a lot more obvious before I painted the leather armour - to the point where I seriously considered going back and redoing the sleeves. But the contrast with the leather makes the shirts look a lot more white... but kind of a dingy, grungy white. Which is exactly what I was going for. I mentioned this in the Randomness thread the other day, figured I'd point it out here too in case anyone wondered how it looked after being finished.
  17. Just finished these for the boyos birthday - he turned 15 yesterday but we're celebrating today. He saw the Doomscythe model and really liked it so I started a small force for him, more to do, but this is what's finished now. Anyway, c&c is always welcome! First time I've done a vehicle, other than a car or P51 mustang lol
  18. These are for my youngest son's birthday at the end of the week so I'm trying to get them finished up to table top at least, fairly quickly. I'm trying to come up with a theme that works - he wants them to be blue. Now the traditional scheme for these is silver with some trim etc in an alt colour. Ok, I have blue metallic paint, which I'm trying to decide where to put exactly. But the issue I really have with it, is how to highlight it? It's really dark! This is vallejo gunmetal blue. I tried to add some different blues to a silver paint but really didn't like it. I do like this blue very much, but as I said, it's really dark and I'm having trouble. Would you add white to make it lighter? Silver? I figure the final highlight should be silver (to help join the colours together since the rest of the metal bits will aslo be highlighted silver), but the intermediate colour, that's the issue... Anyway, bad pic for WIP view (really hard to photograph unfortunately, it looks almost black but Iassure it's actually dark blue) Also I should point out, I'm not going to paint the head blue in future ones, I really didn't like it, it's too much/too dark, something. Anyway, thanks in advance for any help!
  19. Last week I became the proud new owner of a second hand Skaven (GW ratmen) army. Most of the rank-n-file troops are plastic. Due to being insane and not having enough ongoing projects, I have decided to fix up and make a multi-base/diorama (for possible use in Kings of War) a whole bunch of them. I'll be making a 'horde' of ratmen on a sewer base. Officially, a horde is 40 figures, 10 across by 4 deep, in ranks. I'm going to be using less than that; the final count isn't determined yet, but I have a hard time thinking of a horde of rats in perfect military formation, so my base will be the appropriate size, but the figures will be scattered around chaotically, as befitting a horde of vermin. I will be using a few Reaper figures here and there to help 'fill up space', mostly rat swarms and some giant rats. As far as the base goes, I'm thinking it'll be (mostly) flat, with part of it being lower and filled with sewage. For the lower part, should it run the length of the base, or cut across the width? Any suggestions? This is what I'm working with as far the figures go: Broken/missing parts, mold lines all over the place, and a fairly slapdash paint job. I will be making repairs (this has actually already begun). cleaning up mold lines, and touching up the existing paint. I like the scheme, so I'm going to stay with it, and just fix it up. This will be a slow-burn project; I have no desire to try and paint 20-30 ratmen all at once. This will get worked on here and there between other things that I'm doing.
  20. 'Damn it all' said Rolf as trudged through the rancid sewer tunnel. Their patrol was almost over, and here he was investigating some noise that the sergeant had heard. He shouldn't have made that crack about the man's sister. He could still barely hear the others back at the junction talking while they waited for him. 'Damn it all' he said again softly. 'There's nothing here', he thought to himself, 'I'm going back.' Wait....what was that? An enormous hole gaped in the side of the sewer passage. He raised his lantern to get a better loo and found himself staring face to face with a rat. Except that this rat stood on legs, like a man. Suddenly, he felt a scabrous hand press over his mouth from behind as the things sword slid into his guts. ================================================================================================================= This is a figure that I got in a box with a bunch of other figures; it was severely damaged; someone had attacked it with clippers and half severed it's tail, face, and broken off the right arm. I initially used it practice working with green stuff, once it was repaired, I figured I'd throw some paint at it. This is what I managed to do in a little over 2 hours this afternoon.
  21. I have a lot of minotaurs. I share them with you here. You can share yours too if you like. This one is big, 50mm toe to brow, nearly 100mm total height. Believed to be from Games Workshop in the '90s. Base is hand-built from wood, sand, and acrylic gel. I meant for the color to resemble a black Angus bull, but it turned out more like a gorilla. WIP More angles:
  22. This is a Great Unclean One, a greater deamon of the Chaos god Nurgle. His purview is rot and disease. I've been working on this off and on for the better part of this year; I wanted to do the best job I possibly could on this guy. There are still a few things I could improve, and I missed a mold line or 2; I tried to work those in to the sculpt with my paint job. C&C is very much welcome on this one. A face only a mother could love: And the snake-tongue which actually supposed to be coming out of his mouth. Of course it broke when I tried to get a picture.
  23. Hi ! A little commision work for player :) :
  24. I recently bought my first MSP Reaper paints by purchasing SEVERAL triads and started to use them in my paints. First, I love the MSP bottles as I feel a great measure of control in paint volume without having to use a toothpick or brush to pick it out (my method for getting paint out of GW pots). On the flip-side, I have recently been painting chibi figures and so tend to lean to a highly saturated color palette (the cartoony look. . . go figure). It seems to me that the Reaper paints in general are not as color saturated as some of the GW paints. Either that or it is that they have a stronger matte finish compared to a glossier GW finish. Is this common experience or knowledge? It could be the particular triads that I selected. I needed a broader range of skin tones and browns to use so a lot of my triads fleshed out that area of my paint range (GW is sparse in flesh tones).
  25. Hi ! One little Ogre for Mordheim ^^ (really bad pictures :():
