  1. the polka dots took forever. I am happier with how the face came out than the free-hand.
  2. The City Watch. Charged with lantern and truncheon to keep the peace and vigilantly guard against threats thereunto. Again, I'm a sucker for the buckled slouch hats and the shoulder-draping collar. Midlam's Halflings again, featuring Kate Redhanded: more angles: ...and Clubbo Drubbins. Can't say I did such a good job on his lighting as on Kate's, but can for sure say I've done worse. Bringing light into dark places: "Halt! Who goes there!" And a whole crowd of citize
  3. Let's meet Will Chandler, Midlam's halfling candlestick-maker. (Strictly I think a candlestick maker is a silversmith or pewtersmith rather than a chandler, but I don't work for Midlam and this sculpt is too good and evocative to complain!) So much character on display. This one is an exercise in OSL, having no fewer than four light sources, and I can't pretend to have done it much justice with painting; those candle stubs are tiny. Am happy with the lighting on one or two pictures though! An uncanny encounter after dark: With a few other citizens
  4. Here is some delightful halflings from the Townfolk #4 set from Midlam Miniatures. I love these guys and managed to finish 1 a day in December. Halfling Blacksmith (SKU HTC30), Halfling Butcher (SKU HTC17), Halfling Baker (SKU HTC18) and Halfling Herald (SKU HTC24)
  5. Milo Greenbottle, my halfling rogue. Former slave and Underdark adventurer. Using him for a Rage of Demons (5th Ed) campaign. Model 03439: Dicarus Darksword, halfling
  6. The way of the Dawi-kin A goal of Acquiring every single Reaper Dwarf and painting em up. Master check list has been put together that will be updated with time. Any duplicate model will receive conversion using Reaper weapons. I like my check-off lists and achievement progress icons. Green box indicates the mini is owned, the picture next to model indicates that is has been painted. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Reaper
  7. So I'm working on a really small figure a newish Tom Meier Halfling Druid from DarkSword Miniatures. I painted the eyes and was kind of satisfied with them but one seems to be bigger than the other, which means I think I painted the black first outside of the target eye that was sculpted. One eye is okay the other one it too big: so when we get really close to the figure I can see how uneven she is, but she is really, really small: So my first general question is, would this be enough to frustrate somebody to repaint? So
  8. Dan's Build Journal #1 Bag End Completed Project Photos: My Other Build Journals: Greetings all! I recently undertook the task of creating several display pieces to serve as scenic backdrops when photographing my miniatures, however being the procrastinator that I am, I have instead found myself with an ever growing pile of unfinished projects. In an effort to break this cycle I am no longer allowing myself to start new projects until my current one is complete. I figure a progress journal would be a great way to hold myself acc
  9. "Fond of bright colors, chiefly green and yellow," as Tolkien described his hobbits. Stonehaven does some incredibly character-rich sculpts, and this is one such. This lady is full of vim, vigor, optimism, and a can-do attitude! I imagine her as maybe the irrepressible kid sister of a grown adventurer, who has heard stories of adventure and wants to be a part of things. (Big sister played by Daschelle, 44009 )
  10. What crew is complete without a Meat Man? Miniature is from The Assault Groups Imperial Halflings.
  11. Playing with reds. Contrast glaze over bright red, with a brown wash.
  12. My friend got good pictures of this one. I did her as a fairly fast paint for a friend, as his character's mother Millicent Pillswallop (who they really should go check on in the next eight days... she got caught in an explosion in the city). I kinda went with a "Too lazy to blend, so cross-hatch and texture it instead!" idea on the cloth.
  13. The two minis from the bones IV core set just look like they want to battle, so I made them ;) Griffin, Wyvern ... Bones IV core set Hiding Halfling ... TTCombat Hill ... XPS
  14. Loved painting this little chap from Dreadmere. Had ideas of painting him up as a villain or grim ranger but went back to a traditional bright Halfling pallette.
  15. Meet Ernie Baggage! Leader of the Red Cloaks: a mercenary band who travel from town to town seeking adventure and glory! Or they are just murder hobos. Time will tell. The 07004: Dungeon Dwellers: Stitch Thimbletoe, Halfling Thief painted in Autumn palette with NMM and Texture/Freehand. Even comes with the chest of gold! Keep both eyes on this guy.
  16. Did a fair bit of free hand with this. Really enjoyable process. Quite happy with how it turned out.
  17. Back from Reapercon and working on the little's PC for our inconsistent dnd game. She's super tiny but I really like the sculpt. Gripes about plastic, and the mould quality though. It's a wizkids preprimed number. I wish they did these in metal. She's coming along nicely. Her skins are the rosy skin triad with some of the fair skins mixed in. Hair is intense brown, vmc orange brown pumpkin orange and then pumpkin orange and rosy highlight, then tiny bits of rosy highlight. Her eyes are I think leaf green, and tiny. Kiddo is requesting some purple socks with stripes so that is the next
  18. I painted Stonehaven’s Halfling Berserker to use as my gnome barbarian D&D character. It was a fairly quick paint job for me, only a few hours. I had finished everything but the metallics a few months ago and kept forgetting to finish her up.
  19. Here's another post. Hellakin languished on my shelf of shame for about 5 years. He was intended as an entry into a forum contest for painting "little people." Life got in the way. I recently decided to finish him, in a little bit of a rushed fashion. He sat and sat at the basecoat stage. I struggled with figuring out how to do his cloak black. I am not too happy with it. It reads dark blue, as I'm trying to paint black without cycling up through gray, as you'll see here: I'm more pleased with the gold nmm on the knife than the steel.
  20. My most recently complete project is the lovely ladies of Oathsworn Miniature's "Heroines in Sensible Shoes 3" Kickstarter. As always, they are a joy to paint. They have nice, bold details but without being overwrought. They definitely look like a bunch of starting adventurers! The theme this time was more exotic races, notably a bunch from "Volo's Guide to Monsters" The ladies ascend the mountain: The Kitsune. She could be a lightly armored Fighter, a Rogue, or a Ranger. The Kenku (or Tengu) Shaman. Or Wizard. Or Sorcerer. Or whatev
  21. After converting Ingrid to better match the character she's going to represent (giving her a bow and rapier), last night I got to painting. I started with thinned down brown liner, then went straight to the eyes with Linen White. Surf Aqua was used for her irises, and brown liner for the pupil. I painted her flesh with a 2:1 Warrior Flesh: Linen White mix. Her hair is Blond Shadow with highlights of Tanned Leather. Her lower lip is a 1:1 blend of her flesh tone with Old West Rose. The armor, gloves, boots were painted with a thinned Rich Leather. The bow and scabbard are
  22. I recently got in the latest "Heroines in Sensible Shoes" Kickstarter from Oathsworn Miniatures. I decided to get started on them and take (yet another) break from my in progress Rising Sun minis. As \always, they were nice, clean casts with lots of detail, but nothing over-wrought...which makes sense for low-level adventurers! They're such a joy to paint.
  23. One of my favourite range of figures ever was Citadel's 1980's licensed "Lord Of The Rings" minis. I have finally decided to get all the miniatures I own painted up (over time) & try to acquire the ones which are missing from my collection (& paint them up too!). Here is the first completed mini - Frodo. He is actually part of a blister of 3 minis which also includes Strider & Gandalf, I will be painting those 2 sometime at a later date. This was also an opportunity for me to use my newly acquired "Flockbox" to create a more lush realistic upstanding static grass effect on
  24. Good morning all, so here's a Halfling rogue sculpted by Jim Johnson that was put out by Kenzer and Co., and rereleased by Ral Partha recently. A nice little Hackmaster figure, enjoy him quite a lot, because he's pretty straight forward, kind of iconic-looking Halfling thief. And I've been doing so many greens and such, it was a departure from my woodsy colors, so went for a cloak the color of the Dutch flag and some purple pants. Enjoy!
  25. Hope I'm in the right forum - apologies if not. I am looking for a mini that would have either an empty hand, or a gun, but is a gnome or halfling in fantasy style. Basically I'm looking to play a kinda crossover. Or if someone can suggest a mini to use and another to grab the gun off maybe? Don't really want 'western' style, or sci fi, which is making it a bit tough.
