Cookie has had a tougher life than Butler. She was a slave in the Fire Giant kitchens before clobbering one of her masters over the head with her frying pan and escaping when a group of adventurers invaded. Her son Hunter often hangs out in the filthy kitchen to visit and flirt with the maids. Ziggy his favourite mountain lion likes to chase the "Mittles" sentient multi-coloured mushrooms that infest the kitchen of the steading.(Several years ago Cookie was making her infamous horse meat and mushroom stew...and accidentally stirred it with the pointy twirly bit from the head of the 'horse'...In the ensuing rainbow explosion while the Giants watched the unicorn escape the first Mittles jumped out of the upset cauldron. Cookie has become quite fond of the nippy nuisances and refuses to let anyone "taste the rainbow"

Reducted painting & forumming this week due to fibro but have finished this guy. I have an ambition to paint all the miniatures for Against The Giants - 30 odd years ago we had 3 actual "giant" figures and improvised.... Reaper Bones have been fantastic but A lot of the monsters are giant servants -weaker than the fighters ( hill giant servants fight as ogres), Gary did allow room for the servants to make deals with the party to avoid being killed ( we just killed them - twice...). I couldn't find any Giant Servant figures but then I thought of Heroforge....turns out that XL figures printed double size make very reasonable giants - and they are fun to design. I added the patch and the waistcoat belt ends with Green Stuff This is the first one finished. I made a big cock-up in the design -the cat was meant to be Mrs Norris like - but I managed to have it overlap with a bottle - so one paw is missing and the other goes through the bottle...I thought it could be a ghost, then an alcoholic delusion so a pink cat...a cat that was only part there... Butler is probably the brightest hill giant, being part-cloud giant. On a visit to relatives, he noticed that the cloud giants' servants tended to be in control of cellars, food, etc., and spotted an opportunity. Filching a velvet waistcoat, now extremely worn, and adding pinstripes to his trousers, he effectively placed himself in charge of the steading's supplies, and has built up quite a collection of coins and potions (etc.). Unfortunately, he has also been drinking sneakily from both the alcohol supplies and the potion stocks. Hence now he is followed by an irritating pink and purple cat who most of the time no one else can see...

I went into my local hobby shop the other day to buy some paint and primer...and apparently I needed a hill giant too because I came out with one of those also. Luckily when I got home I realized I didn't already own it. In fact I have one of each of the Reaper hill giants. Well I was inspired to paint them up and here is what I came up with. MSP Tanned skin plus highlight and shadow for the skin. Army painter for the rest. Looking at the pics, I realize some bits here and there that need work but mostly I'm pretty happy. Guess which GM is going to have his players fight some hill giants someday... Close up pics here right to left: I need to work on my photography a bit. Also, anybody know if I need to reduce the file size on the pics before I upload them? They are about 6 mb each.

Bought this in a post Xmas sale and was very disappointed by the quality of the print - 2 fingers already missing most of the others broke but I was able to save some. Half a foot was just missing. The snowman he was meant to be stomping on was fuzzy and too small. (I considered getting out my snotlings as goblin kids) got my other half to perform a snownectomy. Then thought he looked a bit like a footballer receiving a pass....then that red and white were the colours of our local team....bought a doll's house lawn and used some green stuff on a brass bead ( took a couple of tries I didn't even attempt a modern ball). Fixed his foot but have covered up with melting snow. Out of season but have been working on him occasionally for a couple of months - he will go in a snowglobe display for a friend's Christmas present. Obviously Santa made friends with a lady Hill Giant at some point...Granny Klaus knitted his seasonal braces. His missing fingers came about when he was cheeky to Jack Frost....

This is the Hill Giant from 77939. I have not finished the cat yet, so I only have the Giant here. I have been trying to add various colors (layers of color for one area/color) to my minis to make them more interesting. Following some of the painters here and other utubers and painters like Angel G. I used an Imperial Purple base for this entire mini and then did Troll Flesh as next base for skin and then built up reddish skin tones for skin and then went lighter tan. Hope you enjoy, I had fun painting him.

Chief of my Hill Giant Tribe. I dipped his hand in hot water to form the fingers around the added rock. The strange off-centre position on his base is so he fits into his tribe better...

Two more members of my hill giant tribe, obviously the one on the left is the original. The one on the right has a totally seamless hair piece (!) and obviously a modified club based on one stolen from another giant. He also has a slightly more upright stance which required an extension of his furs and was probably more trouble than the effect is worth, to be honest.

From Bones Kickstarter 4 - I hope I got the code right as I can't find this guy on the Reaper website as yet. He came packed with a sabretooth which I didn't use for this project because AD&D giants keep dire wolves (of course!) I think he might be my favourite member of the tribe? I was tempted to give him a more "huntery" weapon, but I guess a horn and a club is all he needs, and hill giants aren't known for their finesse or craftsmanship.

Hey everyone, I’ve been away for a little while, but life has gotten back into a rhythm that allows me some brush time. Finally! These were simply fantastic models. I throughly enjoyed painting these giants. It was a busy weekend for me, one Friday, another Saturday, and the last one Sunday. C&C are always welcome, and I hope you like them. My camera skills are as craptastic as usual... Oh! Banana-4-Scale! It’s a 28mm 3d printed on a 1” square base. It’s nearly as absurd and yet awesome as it sounds!

Hello Everybody, so partially inspired by a post Master Buglips did a year ago that I can't help but keep looking back to, and partially inspired by the fact that this is a figure I've always wanted to get around to painting since I first saw it in the latter seventies/early eighties, I've finally taken the plunge and splattered some paint on this excellent figure sculpted by Julie Guthrie. Unpainted, her face seems to be a little bit surreal, but once you actually get some paint on her, her face becomes both brutal and beautiful at the same time. As in everything, these pictures let me see tons of imperfections, but if you look at it with your bare eyeballs, or even close up with some magnification goggles, you don't really notice certain things. I really love this figure, and started with her skin as a base of Tanned Shadow, and then went down and up from there. Tried to keep her firmly tied into earth tones, but had to do something with the jewels, but tried to make them "nature related" by keeping them green. For a giant nowadays, she's pretty small, but if you put her up against any Partha piece of your time, she fits in quite nicely. I now have a painted giant collection that has reached the grand old amount of seven, three Meier Frost Giants, two Meier Hill Giants, a Meier Cloud Giant, and this Julie Guthrie gem, who is the smallest and squattest of them all (except if you hunt down the Tom Meier Fire Giant, who is probably just about the same size as a 21st century man-sized figure).

Bear with me on this, it has been a while since I've done a WIP. Given my House affiliation updates may be sporadic. If you read the monthly goal threads in the tabletop sub-forum you'll know that I recently completed (mostly) an inventory of my unpainted figures. This has given me some desire to actually sit down and paint more often. I decided to go with the Hill Giant because he's been haunting my lead pile for about 10 years now and already had his skin base coated about 5 years ago IIRC. That and I've always liked the general look of the sculpt on this one. I have two objectives with this piece: to reestablish my basic painting skills and to get it done to boost my general well being and good will towards completing others. I'm not looking for a display or competition quality piece, I want it done. The desired end-state is tabletop or slightly better. I remembered that when I base coated the skin the idea was to start with the darkest colors and highlight my way up rather than my modus operandi of base coating the mid tone, highlighting, then washing. Tonight's goal was to base coat as much as possible before getting tired or losing interest. I got the hair (though it appears I missed a spot on the belly), loincloth, fur, and tree trunk club done before I decided I should probably get stuff put away. The base coats are: skin - MSP Tanned Skin Shadow, hair and club - Ceramcoat Walnut Brown, Fur - MSP Chestnut Gold, loin cloth - MSP Buckskin Pale, and the ropes holding the wrist piece - MSP HD Desert Tan. I plan to reuse the same browns as much as possible as I work my way up to my highlights to try to tie the different parts together. More to follow as I find time to work on it.

I started on this last night. Flesh tones have never been my strongest skill. So far I'm happy with the way the face of the model is turning out. The veins on the arms... ugh. Im hoping to more or less complete Krug today. Ambishious project for me anyways. I'm thinking about making the hand wrap on the left hand bloodied? Suggestions? Any tips on fingernails? Usually I'd scmere on some off-white, but that might look a little cheesy. thanks Matt

It's simple math, really. Ranged Attack + Improvised Weapons = Hill Giant. He has a bag of fun, yet likely horrible stuff: ...and he's taken care not to trample any of the local flora, at least not yet:

Lunkh The Hill Giant and the Silver Dragon Egg If you haven't figured it out by now, I enjoy giants, and I have prolly said as much here more than once. There are many more giants in the queue that is my shelf of shame. However, I am doing my damnedest to move the queue. A long while ago I picked up this hunk of metal named, aptly, Lunkh. Much like the Ogre Mage, Master Phthalo, I based him on a two-inch square piece of shale along with stones, sand and ballast. He got a primer coat of some tan paint I had on hand at the time and was promptly shelved in my home office. You can check out the WIP post to see everything I did to get him here. WIP The foliage is different colors of moss along with some ground foam in muted red and bright green. The moss was washed with some Reaper Walnut Brown to enhance the inner shadows of the bushes. I present to you, "Lunkh, The Hill Giant and the Silver Dragon Egg" Enjoy. I hope you enjoy him. Check him out in the Inspiration Gallery. Pulled another shelf of shame and lined him. He was primed tan a while ago. I also tried a few skin tones for his base color. I am starting with Reaper Tanned Shadow and I will see what works for highlights and shadows . Stay tuned.

Right, so this was one of those crazy ideas I had one afternoon. I looked at Jason Wiebe's Bones Hill Giant and decided his anger would best be directed at a golf ball. So, I painted him up as a Scottish gent and asked poor Jack to stand in for a golf tee. Just for fun, the tartan pattern is based on the Black Watch. The base is made from sculpey. The little rodents are supposed to be Orkney voles as an ode to Caddyshack. I made the bunker texture using sandpaper pressed into the clay. The cap is greenstuff. The skin colors are walnut brown, russet brown and chestnut brown. The hair is highlighted with dark elf skin and leather white. Let me know if you want info on the other colors. I had some issues with my light setup, so excuse the pics. When I'm less fed up with the lights I may re-shoot them. In the meantime, enjoy!

I don't remember if I ever got around to posting pics of this giant. hope everyone likes it. this was one of the easier minis I have painted in a long time it just seemed to paint itself. no laboring over color choice or technique. it just seemed to flow till it was done. working on a base now.

Finished this guy up over the weekend. Fairly happy with him. I really like how his base turned out. *Sigh* After taking the photos though I am displeased with how I can;t keep paint on the fringes of his loincloth. Nothing even touched that spot and still paint has disappeared. At any rate, the base is supposed to look like cracked stone with grass or moss in it.
