Hello All, Here is a 07047 Unicorn I completed a bit ago. Thank you for looking.

Finished this just before christmas. I'm rather happy with the way it came out. The blending is probably the best I've ever done, and I used true metallic shading on all the armor. I hope my Secret Sophie partner enjoys it as well.

I had an itch to paint some horses so this is one of the horses from the Wizkids Adventure Camp set. I have always loved horses and greys are my favorite!

Still taking a little break from my other projects, so I'm currently painting random Guild Ball minis, the latest being Farris, ex-knight and master blacksmith:- Hopefully I got all the mold-lines, I did spot the one on her collar after taking these piccys. Got her head painted. Her face is a base of 1:1 Beastly Brown/Dwarf Skin, Brown Shade Wash and then highlights of 1:1 Beastly Brown/Dwarf Skin and 1:1:1 Beastly Brown/Dwarf Skin/Light Skin. And her hair is Leather Brown, shaded with Brown Wash and highlighted with 2:1 Leather Brown/Bonewhite. Next job will likely be painting the underside of her horse (he has a name but I've forgotten it) black. I meant to do that first, but forgot

She's finished: Finari Mounted Show Off The thing I like about WIP forums is the additional motivation it gives me to get projects done. I've been working on this one for a while and have been horrifically stalled. I was playing a fighter in a D&D campaign. She started as a crossbow wielder. But because the party had no tank, she had to armour-up to survive. And she got a horse. Then I sensibly figured that she should ride the horse... so a conversion began. But then of course the character got killed and motivation dropped to, well, zero. Here is the story of that conversion, as yet incomplete, but which I intend to finish. No longer will she sit on my shelf of shame. I bought another Finari to desecrate convert. I also got this figure to provide the horse/lower torso. 14177: Onyx Chevalier,Overlords Solo Torso severed preserving her belt. Sword was removed preserving the hilt and shield removed. It took me quite a while to decide where to cut and what to preserve. All the parts fitted and laid out for assembly. After fitting them together I realized the sword on the saddle just wouldn't work so I removed it and made a new one out of greenstuff using the preserved hilt I removed in the first step. Primed and base-coated. And moved from the shelf of shame to the front of the 'must complete' row.

So a while ago I painted Trista as a paladin with a warhammer I took from Halbarand the cleric. http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/51436-trista-conversion-wip/?hl=trista It was my first conversion, and she's seen a lot of game time. Now that she's a 5th level paladin, I wanted to make a mounted version of her. Back during the Bones 2 Kickstarter there was a suggestion from multiple people to just take one of the mounted Bones, cut them off at the waist and glue the top half of the mini you wanted a mounted version of. Since Sir Danel from Bones 2 had some <ahem> issues with his top half, I figured it was the perfect candidate. There are a few challenges with this project that I can spot so far. First off, Trista has a very narrow waist. Her belt is also at a bit of an angle, which will complicate things. At this point I think I might have to partially re-sculpt the belt to cover the seam where the surgery occurred. I'm actually thinking I'll start from the bottom up and get the horse painted first. I'd love a few opinions on what to do with the basing and whether or not the extra bit by the rear hoof needs to stay there for support. Currently the base is bent and Sir Danel won't stand, so obviously I need to at the very least heat-treat the horse. I've got a black plastic cavalry base, plus round bases in many sizes. I'm conflicted as to whether I want to make an epic looking base that fills most of a 2" area (for gaming purposes) or if I want to go with the cavalry base for a little stability and easier storage. I'd also like to up my basing game a bit, so all suggestions will be considered as long as they fit with a jungle locale. Since this is Bones, and for gaming, I'm not going to go crazy with a high quality display level paint job (which I probably couldn't pull off anyway) and I'll be aiming for higher tabletop quality. Saves my sanity.

Hi All! I've just been rearranging my display shelves & have noticed that I actually have a few minis that I have never shown on these boards. They are the first ones that I painted a few years ago when I returned to the hobby after many, many years. I will show the others soon but to begin with, here's GW's Gandalf The White & Shadowfax. The actual paint job is essentialy me getting back in the swing of things by copying the image on the miniatures' packaging, I made the base terrain(s) using air drying clay, gravel & sand & added some grass clumps to finish. Whew, wasn't sure I was going to get this done in time for my August RPChallenge. After doing a bunch of Sci-Fi BSRs I had a craving for something a little more old timey. I've had a box of vehicles for Empire of the Dead sitting there since the kickstarter, so though now was the time to try one. Having never painted a carriage before, or painted a horse before (unless you count mutated goblin steads, I did do a unit of Ugu's Cavalry for Clan War once) I went with the "easiest" one, with only 2 wheels and one horse. Now when I started I knew there was a driver, but I didn't realize there were passengers in the carriage when I was estimating how long it would take.... Anyway, it turned out better than I expected, and final assembly wasn't quite the nightmare I was worrying it would be. So I'm happy. WIP here.

From my drop in on London, I also bought a unicorn. Hell yeah. I decided to do a classical pretty unicorn paint, and I had all these grand ideas of soft blue hued whites and stuff... And it all went horribly wrong because I drybrush a lot and am less than amazing at blends. Partly white blends. I actually ended up just outright covering up all the Vallejo paint on here (on the mane, tail, and legs) and just going to town instead with my usual GW paints, and then tried out my new Soulstone blue over all that. I was pleasantly surprised. I ended up putting in loads of shade on him which I then tried to drybrush back out, but didn't get the gradual change I wanted overall. He's very tabletop, but... To be honest, girly stuff isn't my thing, haha. I like monsters way more. Perhaps I'll buy another and then try and paint that one as the evil twin =P So yeah... Unicorn! My photos are grossly inconsistent atm :S Paints used... Citadel: -Whie Scar -Fenrisian Grey -Drakenhof Nightshade -Ulthuan Grey -Soulstone Blue -Gehenna's Gold -Auric Armor Gold -Abaddon Black -Pink Terror -Seraphim Sepia -Temple Guard Blue And some Vallejo Sky Blue. Urk.

I painted this Games Workshop Hurricanum a couple of months ago and the orrery that goes with it separately, but I had not gotten around to posting the Hurricanum on Show Off because I was waiting until I finished painting all the miniatures that go with it. Since that is taking a bit longer to get to as I've been painting other stuff, I figured I can at least post this now. I also painted this medieval cart from Fenryll recently. I was inspired to paint both of these in order to populate the town streets I hope to build when I get my Dwarven Forge City Builder Kickstarter stuff in January.

This Citadel figure comes from their very old "fantasy tribe cavalry" range & is pretty creepy. I'm not totally sure if the red on the horse's body works but from what my old eyes can tell these areas are either muscle or (top) skin so, I guess it's ok?

Last time I was at the local gaming shop, my girlfriend tagged along. She's been looking over my shoulder a lot when I fade off into fantasy-land; and when she found some "cute" miniatures, she decided she wanted to learn how to paint them. So here is the result of the first sessions. Just simple painting mechanics for the table top. I was impressed at least. :) And of course: Showing interest in my nerdy hobbies get her some extra stars. ;) She painted the one on the left. Sort of mimicking what I did on the right.

Are there any figures that have a paladin type miniature that is available both mounted on a horse and available by himself in a normal pose? I have been wanting to make a character for a while that is a mounted fighter. But it would be best if that character could be both by himself with the horse by itself, and mounted on the horse. I know a lot of the mounted figures split up into boneyard parts so getting the horse by itself seems easy, but do any of them match non-mounted figures? I've searched by their names and couldn't come up with anything, but wasn't sure if there was something that would be similar enough. Thanks for any help!

So, thanks to Jasonator, I ended up picking up not just one, but two minis from Thunderbolt Miniatures. They are the #3012 Red Knight, and #3010 Sir Percevale! The way I see it, the Red Knight, let’s call him Sir Brutus since he lacks a name, is strong and fearless. He’s a fierce opponent on the battlefield, felling his foes usually in the first pass during jousting. Sir Percevale, though no weakling himself, is not as mighty as the fearsome Brutus. However, he is devilishly clever and intelligent, weighing up his opponents and targeting the weak areas he spots. So I wonder....who would win in this joust…the strong Brutus or the cunning Percevale? I’ve already thought about colors, and I want them to off set each other as they’ll be displayed on a shelf of our Medieval Times souvenirs, facing off. The Blue Knight, Sir Percevale, is going to be Blue and Gold detailing with a noble eagle as its symbol The Red Knight is going to be Red, White and black detailing with a dragon as its symbol, My main question is...with or without stripes? Stripes win! I know I'm probably crazy for wanting to do these color schemes on a 25mm figure...but oh well =P I'm crazy

I'm thinking the Reaper Reapers.02001, 02002, 02003, 02004, 02019, and 02020. I'd prefer these Reapers to be made into Bones first:War Death Famine Plague I vastly prefer the older Reapers (02001, 02002, 02003, and 02004 - I want the cavalry version more than the infantry version.) *EDIT* Better still would be the traditional Horsemen - The Auld Grump One of Dore's illustrations - he is kind of my default for Biblical themes. (Well, him and Hieronymus Bosch - Garden of Earthly Delights is just so danged strange...) Of course then there are the Five Horsemen - War, Pestilence, Famine, Death, and Ronald Soak. The Auld Grump, Ronnie is also known as Kaos.... *EDIT* Added illo. I notice Weird Al's horse has a mane as permed as his hair. It's probably the least relevant part of it, but I find myself looking at the horses. The horses on the Weird Al poster are ok, a little rounded, but their neck anatomy is weird, especially where the necks join the bodies. The face of the one on the right is off, and its hooves are inelegant. The Doré horses are considerably better but suffer from the nineteenth century habit of not quite knowing how horses actually moved. For dramatic effect the poses are ok, but like Conan with his arms dislocated back to swing a sword, they're not lifelike. The horses in the discworld art lack an understanding of anatomy. Those legs especially bother me.

This is the (8th) completed fantasy vignette as listed on my (WIP) forum of fantasy vignette projects posted on (WIP) forum on Oct. 2, 2013. VIGNETTE TITLE...AMAZON SCOUTING PARTY FIGURES...RAL PARTHA (01-152 = 2 Amazons on foot) & (01-153 = Amazon on horseback)... HISTORICAL NOTE...In the very early years of what we would consider (modern era miniature fantasy figures)...Ral Partha (as a way to test the market and morality of the public consumer) manufactured, produced and released a few fantasy miniature figure sets that contained " full frontal nudity...both male & female "...The public consumer was so outraged and the feedback was filled with so much fury and anger...that the sets were recalled and only a few hundred ever made it on to the public market...these few sets are now considered very rare. MOST NOTED OF THESE SETS...(with full frontal nudity)...are (01-152 = 2 female amazons on foot)...(01-153 = female amazon mounted on horseback)...(01-154 = amazon slave chariot with 2 female amazons in chariot/being pulled by 2 full nude male slaves)...(13-031 = 2 headed ogre holding a full nude female in his hand). These sets were circa (1976-1978) and the actual size of the figures was about (18-20mm)...All of these sets were re-cut/re-sculpted with clothing. A while back I ordered some elves from Thunderbolt Mountain by the legendary Tom Meier of Ral Partha founding. They are beautiful, but I have a question -- advice to ask, really, about the horses. These are definitely elven horses, impossibly elegant, refined, like an Arabian cubed, almost insect-like, like the three-dimensional embodiment of George Stubbs' stunning eighteenth century horse portraits. Which means they are gorgeous, but yikes, their legs are thin. So I have, for example, this model: Which, by the way, is true 25mm scale, so even smaller than it looks. Now of course it needs a little filing and clean up, but my question is a little more material. I am scared to remove the support sprues under its legs. I have terrible visions of that one rail-thin rear ankle supporting the entire model and succumbing to even gentle in-game handling. I appeal to the combined wisdom and experience of the boards. How would you deal with this? Is it kosher to leave the sprues in? Can they be maybe camouflaged? Painted black and pretending they are not there? Covered with tall grass? Will more experienced modellers mock me for my cowardice? Help?

Woman with bucket and horse from megaminis. I only own a couple minis from them, but in my opinion the woman is arguably their best sculpt. I bought a whole bottle of realistic water to do the river in the base! Heads up: The woman took me over a week to paint because of the water. It takes 24 hours to try and clings to the sides. It's not at all user-friendly for filling gaps and inset bases. I got it to work eventually though, and I'm pretty happy with the result. I had to drill a hole in the bottom of her dress to insert a metal peg. Otherwise she was going to fall over. I dip and spray-seal all my minis. However, with the woman I was getting a bit impatient with the dipping and I sprayed her a couple hours too early. The unfortunate result was the white flecks all over her front and back. Other than the flecks, I'm pretty happy with her! She was painted with Tamiya. The horse was painted with Vallejo, mostly a colour called Cavalry Brown. It appears a bit messy, and probably a bit too dark, so I'd appreciate any tips to make my minis come out cleaner and brighter looking. And I could probably do with some help with faces. :) Thanks!
