Haven’t posted anything in a while, so may as well break the silence with a WIP. I cleaned up Mashaaf, glued it together and stuck it on a CD base. Didn’t take pics until after the brown liner coat. Then base coated all but the base. The claws and leg things and tail thing got maroon red. The belly got nmm gold shadow. The upper abdomen got a sample purple color and I extended that to the bottom of the tentacles. The face and upper tentacles got entrail pink. The back and body got nightsky blue and the rocks on its back got walnut brown. Finally I used holly berry for the “eye spots” This is where it’s at right now: Probably will need another coat of each but I’ll try to get the base and rocks on the back dry brushed first since that may mess up some other areas.

Better late than never. I started these 3 months ago and finished them about 1 month ago. Finally have a halfway decent photo area again, so I can post pictures! Over winter break, my elder digit and I spent an afternoon playing with some plastic tree armatures from the train store. You have to glue your own flock on to make the leaves, etc. I wanted to make a cluster so I carved some foam into the shape of a little hill and painted white. The trees were not strong enough to punch through the foam though, so I ended up using the glue gun to get them to stay in. More recently we tested out a mini string of led lights and tried trimming the tiny trees. Did not work out great - I lost a lot of foliage in the process and the lights are spaced out too far for the scale - there’s wire all over the place. Oh well, I had to use it after all that work, so it is the background for this jolly crowd. Without lights clise ups with lights “Mood” lighting Thanks for looking!

I chose to paint Kyphryxes (still can't spell it). Rolled the colors mint green, olive green, and fire red. Replaced mint green with alien goo. So this was painted only with the following five colors (and red and green liner): Alien Goo Olive Green Fire Red Solid Black Pure White and here are the results: WIP is here. Kinda petered out at the end. and yes, it is pretty bright in person. Hope my next foray into random colors is a little less stimulating.

Stuck my thumb in the box of unpainted bones and pulled out a Kyphryxis. must unbag bag and dry fit, trim mold lines and scrub, but first, the random colors... 15, ah what could that mean? I'll look later. Let's roll another. seven! Good. Nicely spaced numbers. Will look it up in a minute. For the third roll... Well darn gotta wait for the full minute so the time shown is different... Finally! oof! One! Critical miss. Well, it's probably a boring color at the top of the table. Let's see what this means: 15: mint green 7: olive green 1: fire red huh. Whadaya know. Time to go see what I've got for colors... (To be continued)

Eldest digit is turning 10 in two weeks. There will be a pathfinder party and I get to be the dungeon master. I also get to prepare minis for the party. While most will make characters a couple days before (end of next week), Indy the eldest wanted to make one this weekend. Went with a female half-Orc ranger wielding a double axe. Sounds fun, right? Well, I don't seem to have a lot of double axe wielding minis. Actually have a prepainted one, but it is an Orc and he's definitely male, so that was out. I figure I can convert an appropriate figure that's wielding a pole arm without too much trouble. But it would have to have the right positioning for the weapon. Came across Vernicia and Indy says, that's her. It turns out I have this figure from years ago. Pulled it out of the box of shame, primed black. Here it looks after dusting it off pre cutting. cut the standby end off and made a point out of what was left of the shaft. Also found a couple of prepainted orkz to remove axe heads from. They are big and ridiculous so they'll be perfect! drilled out the shaft end of the plastic axe heads a little to give them a chance to hold onto the sharpened shaft and applied super glue. Also glued to a base at this point. Then hit the whole thing with a heavy drybrush of white primer. And did a quick paint all in one night. Left it on the table and we will see what the reaction is in the morning. I think she turned out pretty good. What do you think?

I'm putting together a monstrous warband for frostgrave and I did a quick paint of these three bones today. 77148: Damien the hell born wizard as my apprentice 77036: medusa as an archer 77198: barrow rat as a war hound. This last was a super quick paint as I finished the other two. Dressed the gorgon/medusa with knife and paint, so she's Sfw. Still, I'll spoilerize the pics: i want to include the horned hunter I did as well in this warband. Still not decided what to use as my wizard and other band mates. I want to try to keep an even gender ratio, but there are very few monstrous women and the few that are out there have a hard time keeping their clothes on.

Got my bones this afternoon, inventoried, ate lunch, and decided to paint for a couple hours. These will all be used in an adventure his weekend. also only painted with bones 3 paints. The shield may be used by the dwarf pc in which case I will glue it to the arm holding the spike. Painted the spike and shield in mushroom themed colors since this character took as her skills craft (mushroom smith) and craft (alchemy with mushrooms). Sorry for the poor photos. Bones 3 have not yet gone downstairs where the photo station is.

As I pondered my choice of wizard for my new monstrous Frostgrave warband, I slowly realized there was only one choice really. I put his witch, cat, and cauldron into he shopping cart around Halloween time. I knew I needed one for any legitimate Halloween display of miniatures. But it had sat unpainted in the blister for a few months while other things took priority. Back to the frostgrave war band. So I chose witch as my wizard's school and proceeded to fill the ranks of soldiers with monstrous members like the horned hunter and a medusa archer, couple of tieflings, and even giant rats as warhounds. I think I am meant to paint up this witch as the wizard. She comes with a cat that I'm putting on the base with her and a cauldron that I am not. The cauldron will make a great prop when playing pathfinder and I already have a place for it in the birthday party adventure I have planned for next week. However the cauldron needs to sit on a fire or bed of coals or something. I realized I do not even have a campfire token so that became part of this project. okay, so first I grabbed two 20 mm bases and glued some small pebbles and gravel to them like so: Next I had to put the witch and cat on a base. I cut up an old bones base to fill out the bare base with flagstone shapes and glued down more gravel to fill in some of the gaps. Finally everything got some black primer. Witch and cat: fire pit: The black Cauldron: All of this happened over the last couple of days. Have not had much chance to paint since Friday night since we currently have house guests, but still managed to just start to lay down base coats while everyone else was entertained by part of a movie. Out pale saffron on the Inside of the cauldron and emanations, the cats eyes, the center coals in the fire pit, and the bat in the witches hand. No, I am not making the bat yellow. Honestly did not realize it was a bat until I got the yellow on it. Now I know. also mixed wreath green with dusky skin to start on the witch's skin. Oh and also some vampiric skin for the witches hair and for a quick dry brush on the rocks in the fire pit. Here is where things stand right now. Cauldron Witch Fire pit. I would love some ideas for colors on that witch besides black and green. I can't seem to picture anything else.

While waiting for water effects to dry (more boring than paint) I finished up a couple minis that have been on the desk for a while. His one here is a favorite. Got all rainbow inspired when painting up a great worm. This was the first mini where I'd used the sand/gravel and glue mix to "sculpt" a base. Had lots of rocks to stick into it as it dried. After a dark primer and light drybrush, I liked the look of it so much I didn't want to paint over it for a few months. Well I finally brought it back to the painting desk about a month ago and have been hitting the rocks with various leftover Browns and grays. I was not entirely happy with he underside until I thought to drybrush a fleshy color (suntan flesh) and it really did it for me. What do you think?

Don't know why I'm so nervous to put this out there. Really it's just for fun and no big deal, but I'd like to enter myself into a goblin challenge starting tomorrow, May 24. Time Tbd. Khanjira is currently still in the box. Tonight I will dry fit, clean, and attempt to fix warping. Tomorrow afternoon I will begin the challenge. Just to be sure: I have a couple packs of round size 10/0, 5/0, and 3/0. Any of those would be allowed, correct? They are within the 10 mm long, but not sure where to measure the 1 mm wide. At the ferrule, just the bristles at the ferrule end or the tip? okay, now to clean the paint area and I'd some colors.

Sat down for two hours today to make the time until bones 3 shipment notification go by. Thought I'd try a speed paint of something largish. Wasn't sure if this should have gone in the WIP thread. Not putting it in show off though since it is far from what I would consider done. Still, a fun test of my speed. 2:39 pm about to rip open the bag. 2:51 pm mold lines trimmed, washed, glued to a base. 3:13 pm. Brown linered. Poured too much so a big puppy got some liner too. Had to wait for drying anyway. 3:47 pm. Green hair, off white weapon and other accessories. Eyes. 4:08 pm. Skin. Lots of skin. 4:28 pm. Blue and purple/red cloth and accessories. What, only 10 minutes left? 4:41 copper details. Little leather. Okay, technically a couple minutes over. Would have liked to go for another 20-30 min but I had to run out. mission accomplished? Well, there base could use some attention. And the face. Really all of the skin could use a highlight. And the hair. But I think I'll keep it as is for now to show what I am capable of in two hours. Maybe try this again in a while (there is the male still to do) and see if I get any faster.

I like the idea of yellow and orange skinned ogres and I've seen a few before. This is my first foray into yellow skinned ogre territory and I liked highlighting Witt a mix of orange and shading with a bit of green. This was a heavy one though, so I'll be looking forward to the bones ones coming soon (tm). I stamped some green stuff for the base and sculpted a couple extra bits while I was at it. It's supposed to be a bit of cloth and some rope. Also there is a pile of round objects that honestly looks like massive deer poo. Well, why not? Painted the cloth red, which maybe makes it stand out a little too much. I'd appreciate any feedback or advice on what to improve before I get started on the bones 3 ogres. thanks for looking!

WIP #1 was animals. WIP #2 will be plants. Until Bones 3 arrives, I only have 2 sets of plant creatures. Spirit of the Forest and Mushrooms (a 3 pack). I decided to warm up with the fun guys. First sliced some mold lines. Not too bad and not being super picky with these. Here they are ready for their bath. After some hot water and a scrub with the old toothbrush, I mounted them each on their own homemade holder. staff on the big one was noticeably less bent after the hot water rinse. then they got a diluted coat of brown liner. next up... Base coats.

Here are three Reaper Bones fungi-folk. Not trying to compete with Malefactus or anything. Just having fun with secondary colors. I tried making my image file sizes smaller but it seemed to make the pictures blurry. What do y'all think?

With only a week to go I finished the miniature I plan to give dear mum. She is a bit more of an artist than myself so I made a painter out of one of the townsfolk children. And she loves to garden so I put some flowers on the base and freehanded one on the front of the jumper. Can anyone guess what the bag is supposed to be?
-
While it may not be the most impressive of its kind, I'm happy to have this painted up and ready to play. Another one off the desk. I ordered the reaper paint color Alien goo for its eyes and I like it. Got the idea from Someone else's in the inspiration gallery and couldn't get it out of my head. Hey don't touch my stuff!

Adding to my collection of farm figures, these halflings are pretty decent size. Must be the country living. Had fun muddying them up a little. Probably could have gone further with that. The male had what looks like a gouge on the face. Not sure if I just didn't clean up the mold lines enough or somehow cut him during scraping and prep? Didn't actually notice it until I did the eyes and started working on skin. Could have played it up as a scar but didn't want to mess with it right now. Maybe I'll pick it up again after the figure has seen some table action and then give him a battle scar. Farmer 1 Front And back farmer 2 front And back together! front and back ...and defending their livestock from raiders You get a sense of their relative size here - the chickens, piglet, and lamb are on small (20 mm) bases. Thanks for looking! Oh, and here's the WIP thread:
