From Bones 3, the Werearmadillo Obviously, lycanthropy has spread too far...and this is a reminder that Reaper are from Texas, where armadillos are native and as I understand it, seen as pests. Tick, tock, tick, tock... Werecrocodile. Yup, a werecrocodile. Presumably someone survived getting bitten by a croc and then turned the following full moon, tearing off all their clothes to waddle down to the river and burble at the moon? So now we are just waiting for the WereDuckbilledPlatypus and WereMoose with baited breath. Maybe in Bones 5? Thankfully this mini does not have any clothing, armour, weapons or other items about it's person. This can work as a monstrous beast of any kind. Even a Kaiju in a game of Epic. Hi everyone, I painted this 80072, Antarctic Explorer to complement the little scene that I did for LadyStorm's winter contest. This model was sculpted by James Van Schaik. I painted it with Reaper's MSP paint and the synthetic snow is Army Painter Battlefields BF4103 snow. Any similarity with an old bearded man from the northern hemisphere is pure coincidence.

I had two copies of James van Schaik's 02863: Female Werewolf, so I decided to paint them with slight variations. I've painted them with realistic wolf coloring. That is, they are colored like actual wolves that have been pulled and distorted into humanoid shapes rather than the solid black or gray common in werewolf depictions. WIP thread here.

By itself this figure is 02863: Female Werewolf by James van Schaik, but to be clear I got mine as part of the set 03495: DHL Classics: Lady Lycanthropes. I have two copies, but of course they are sold singly. It's an evocative little figure, with a slim build and fur suggestive of long hair. The tail is a separate piece which was too thin for my pinning skills, so it is simply glued on. I decided to paint these two in realistic wolf style. - That is, colored as real wolves would be, though distorted. After cleaning up mold lines, I prepared them by priming thinly with Titanium White and washing over with Burnt Umber. I also threw a quick green on the bases mixed from Yellow Oxide, Hansa Yellow and a small amount of Carbon Black (yellow + black is a fun and unexpected way to make bright greens!). Those broccoli bases caused me endless trouble. Note the tiny white specks on them? Those are tiny pits where the paint didn't take. I will eventually come to spend all sorts of time poking with specially thinned paint and tiny brushes trying to eliminate those white spots.

I tried taking a Zen of Bones approach to this bunch (Thanks Buglips!). These are part of my 4 year olds "Toy Box" minis. I only took lage flash off and pretty much pretended that tne mold lines don't exist. They got a zenithal prime and the 4 year old painted the bodies. I painted faces, clothes and bases. These were treated with Army Painters mid tone quickshade (first time using it). I then played with my static flock generator which worked fine on the mummy bases (which I didn't catch in the photos), but was sad on the Ghast bases. either way they look good enough IRL. Photos are poor as I didn't put much effort in them either. Enjoy! And before the quick shade.

This little guy was a quick paint I did to get a feel for glazing. He came out pretty good for the time I spent on him. I was working with some new techniques I read about to get undertones using several layers of glazes. This is going to help me with my current project (I hope) for the mini exchange. Enjoy! I decided to participate in "The Ghoul, The Bad, and The Ugly -- Reaper BONES Horror Pageant Challenge" at the end of October. Spent about a week cleaning him up and he was a joy to paint. There are a few more things I wanted to do---but deadlines and no paint time Base was from Secret Weapon's Bag 'O Crap. I added a plaster bottle in the gutter with label and used Secret Weapon water in the gutter as well. The colors are outlined in my WIP. C&C Welcome. Got my Gloom Wraith, by James van Schaik, painted. Love this sculpt--it's so dynamic. Absolutely full of motion. I tried to do right by this guy--but I was very simple about it, for whatever that's worth lol. I started with a basecoat of Nightmare Black (I wanted to try it out!), then went to work with some plain-ol' cyan. I then lightened some of that up for some higher highlights.And that was basically that. Thanks for looking! Comments and criticism are very welcome.

Still rolling along, though mostly stripping paint, last few days. First up, Iron Fist: I am super in-love with the green wash on blue thing. And then, I was SUPER happy with how the washes went on this. His basecoat was a lightish gray. Hit him with Reaper's brown wash, and bam. Loved what it did to the fur, but also the bandage-like leg cloths and all, and ESPECIALLY the skulls. I'm not scared and indeed am excited to try some skeletons, now, seeing how these skulls turned out. But then also, I used Reaper's flesh-tone wash on his mouth, as per a suggestion I got from buglips in that question thread I made. Or, well, he didn't specifically say for these kind of monster-mouths, but I thought it worked here. I also used that wash on the tail to redden/pinken it up (with some highlighting later), and I thought I got it a pretty good tone (I was worried about getting too pink). Had a lot of fun with this one, especially when I was geeting to see things work out. At least in part. Feedback and suggestions and tips and so on still hugely appreciated. Thanks for looking.
