This little fella was a ton of fun. I chose him to practice fur, I'm reasonably pleased with it. The base is from secret weapon. Very nice bases. As always comments and criticisms welcome.

The title says it all I decided to try sheer cloth. I have wanted to try some since I took Rhonda's class for Painting Sheer cloth at Gen Con two years ago, but haven't felt brave enough to actually do it. Well if I want to get better I have to try more things, so here we go. Since this is new to me I figured I would post a WIP for advice and encouragement. Not to mention if I completely mess it up (which I likely will) maybe someone can learn from my mistakes. I already had Sleeping Beauty primed and ready to go I managed to prep her back in January. So last night I painted up her fl

Hi again all, Just sharing Sarah, painted by me over the last few weeks. Tried out a simple light box to get a better shot than Agramon (cardboard box version from the link in the Shutterbug forum). I guess we need a better camera. She is sitting on a plastic shot glass (what we mount things on to paint them) simply to fit the angle of the camera better. I must give a shout out to nomad_grrl for the method on the crystal balls. Primer, Sky Blue and a coat of metallic medium was the trick. Thanks in advance for any feedback etc. Cheers!

I tried to use Rhonda Bender's excellent paint job as a guide for my version of Kyrie the Female Barbarian which was a special edition mini from the RAC. I acquired her during the 12 days of xmass. I still have no idea how Rhonda manages to paint those itsy bitsy eyes! Without further rambling I give you my lame attempt at this lovely mini from Julie Guthrie! Comments are always appreciated!

Next up, an old Grenadier mini from the Julie Guthrie's Personalities line. I really love this mini. I wish I could've done it more justice. I imagine this guy as a dragon slayer, for whatever reason. The grungy sort, though, rough and perhaps of noble connections somehow but rather crude. Mean. Not much better than an evil dragon, perhaps. I gave him a mustache. It looked like he was supposed to have a mustache. Anyway, second attempt at basing. Used some flock LittleBluberry sent me in my Secret Sophie package and some rocks I'd gotten a while back. Super simple, but yeah.

My Rageclaw Slayer. For some reason I wanted a black lupine in shining armor.

I was photographing something else yesterday. The something else ended badly. I was documenting it. Anyway, the Fire Elemental was nearby and the lighting setup looked promising so I let the camera have a try even though the LFE is notoriously hard to photograph. The Raw Image My phone has a small app on it from Adobe, and it has a selection of preset "effects" filters it can apply. I tried several, saved a few that looked fiery. The Filter That Looked Like Lava A Kind of Spot Lighting? Similar to Above But Darker Hope these are at least fun to look at

Well, here's the big Dracolich from Reaper. His base is a CD- I sculpted some rocks to match the rocks that the mini was already standing on. I'm really quite fond of this mini- dragons and zombies go together quite well,a nd his rotting flesh was a real joy to paint. You might not be able to tell from the photos, but the red areas are glossy, making him seem more fresh. Also, I posted him to CMON for anyone who cares to vote.

Hi all, so today is my official first day of a two week long vacation. Where my wife works she has to take every year two weeks straight and I'm more than happy to accompany her in those two weeks of non-work, AKA vacation. My wife's sister and a friend have come to visit this year and we're going to spend five days in Estes Park but the rest of the time we'll be home, so I'm also going to try to get as much painting done as possible, mostly before everybody wakes up or when the ladies go shopping. One of the things that happened was our spare room is being used, where I normally pa

So I'm considering in the near future painting an old Ral Partha chimera sculpted in the eighties by sculpting goddess Julie Guthrie. Here's my dilemma: should I paint each piece of the beast according to its natural color ( lion part tawny brown, goat black/white/grey, and dragon red/green) or do I take an approach where I would paint the whole figure red with a black mane? Opinions from the peanut gallery would be extremely welcome! Thanks, Mark

Hi all, So here are the last two I've painted up, to nice little lions sculpted way back in around 1982 ( or at least that's what the bottom of them say ) by painting legend and goddess Julie Guthrie. I'm kind of on my lion- colored kick with my manticore before these and the next one is my chimera also by Julie Guthrie that I'll be trying to finish up next. The bases were literally one millimeter too big to actually set on one of the middle-size bases, so I ended up putting them on large bases. I really did just a quick bit of dirt and grass, didn't want to bother with any stones or

I painted this Reaper Bones harpy as a quick fun mini for gaming. Hence no fancy base, and very simple metals, etc. I didn't even carve off the mold lines (though I probably should have done at least that!) She's topless, so here's a link to more photos on my website.

Here is my version of the Bones Harpy. This is my second artistic effort in the past 14 months and I'm working hard to shake off the dust. Input always appreciated. Please scroll down a few posts for links to the other images!

So it seems like it's taken forever, but I've finally got these all finished. Upon retrospect, I should have probably used less grass on the bases, but oh well, too late to cried over spilled grass.

Project: Ice Eye Beast Reaper SKU #: 77043 Sculptor: Julie Guthrie WIP Thread So I failed to enter this guy in the contest by a few days, but I still wanted to put him up for everyone to take a gander at. He was pretty rushed (and not my best work) as I was trying so hard to get him into the contest before the deadline, but the basing of him took longer than I expected. Anyhow C&C are welcomed and appreciated.

This is a Reaper Bones Eye Beast, glued onto a Secret Weapons Miniatures base, to which I added some green stuff to work the two bases together into a unified whole. The rest is just paint!

Hi all, here's my lastest venture, a female centaur archer from the glorious Ral Partha eighties. Another old classic from Julie Guthrie, it's taken me a while to finish as we've been working on a lot of other things at home, but now back into the painting mode again. Hope you like! Mark

As you might gather, I am really slow at this. Also my miniatures painting things have been stowed away for the long holiday season. But I have finally finished my first Bones mini, 77188 "Sea Lion", sculpted by Julie Guthrie. I have been intrigued by underwater photography, particularly in shallow clear water under bright sunshine where the lensing effects of the wave ridges create constantly changing lines of glowing pale green on whatever swims under them. So I tried a bit of that on this mini. I had a difficult time capturing the colors accurately in the photographs. Some of

Here's one I just finished a few nights ago from the old Ral Partha All Things Dark and Dangerous series that Julie Guthrie sculpted in the early eighties. This particular set also came with an executioner swinging an axe, another prisoner on his knees just about to get his head whacked off, a basket with a head in it, and a guard with a polearm. Nice set of figures for a kind of town-type adventure. I took pictures oddly enough of this figure from a bunch of angles because she is hunched so oddly it doesn't seem like one angle captures the figure. This is one that has been sitting on m

Finally finished him. My TMM needs work, as does some of my blendings on the wings, but now that I have a slow dry/blending medium to play with, we will maybe see a new level in my mini painting. Still, here he stands, as is. Wyrmgear the Eternal
