More minis from my Shelf of Shame Long-Term, Partially-Completed Backlog: A trio of kobolds from one of the Reaper Bones kickstarters! These are some of the tiniest minis I've painted. Even so, it took about 2 long evenings to complete them. I did lots of practice of NMM steel and gold. I'm now of the opinion that NMM works better than metallics for small minis. The clothing was originally red, but I found it was too close to the orange of the skin color and just blended together from about 2 feet away, so they got repainted to a color/tone that was more distinct. I prefer that my kobolds be weird dog/lizard hybrid creatures, so they all got black noses. It looks good on these! That brings the total minis I've painted this year to 19! (With another one in the wings.)

These guys were among my first completed miniatures from Bones 5 because, well, they were easy. Not much too them, and a simple paint-job at that, but dang, they sure are fun! For whatever reason my metallic paints seem to go bad more quickly than everything else, so it ended up being more challenging than I expected to even get the paint on the model. It was a good opportunity to experiment with a tarnished and greasy brass look, so I made it work. The reaper bases were great here because I was able to nest the built-in bases inside and just match the texture with GS rather than go through the hassle of removing it. for quick sessions shortcuts like that are crucial or it bogs down the whole process.

The guys over at The Gallant Goblin on Youtube(reviews a lot of minis for D&D) has launched a little kickstarter campaign for some adorable Kobold plushies! 😄 https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thegallantgoblin/kobold-plushies There are also pins and other stuff available!

Started converting my bones v robot kobolds. The idea was to arm them with scifi weapons to use them as a little starship boarding party. The plan is to do a total of 9 when ever they hit retail, all with different weapons. So far axe guy has a plasma gun and a samurai banner. Then there's rocket launcher kobold Knife kobold has a flame thrower.

I found this little jeep at the grocery store. Since it was roughly the right size I chopped up a bones kobold to drive it. And piled some food, a crystal and a duck in the back. It was not bad, but I didn't really like the sword, since my goal was joyride mayhem as opposed to fighting. So I gave it a mug instead. I also gave him a little lizard pal hanging on the outside. So that's cool, but I want to make it sillier still before I paint it. Currently thinking of sticking a bag of golf clubs and maybe some other kobold loot on the jeep.

I recently finished a group of Reaper Bones miniatures. As they are so small they were a little hard to paint at some points. I'm fairly new painting miniatures so I was looking for some feedback and potentially some tips on how to improve in the future. All comments, advice, and constructive criticism is welcome. My own main criticism with them is the highlights as I'm not 100% where/how to paint proper highlights to make a natural look without a ton of brush strokes.

So, before I go any further, I am an absolute rookie in the mini painting world. So, uh, prepare for the worst. Anyways, here's a trio of Kobold leaders. Yeah, I know there's six of them, but one got lost and the other two need a good bit more work, so it's just these three for now. As I said, I'm completely new to this hobby, so any friendly critiques are welcome! KNOWN FAULTS: I missed a couple spots on the first kobold leader's face. And a few other random spots elsewhere on all three. All of their bases look nasty... I didn't do their eyes, as I want to get a bit more familiar with this before I try doing something like that.

The term "Kobold" is originally German for "goblin", "gnome" or "faery", the scary and dangerous beings from outside the campfire's light in preindustrial times. In D&D the name has been used on 1st level mooks who used to be doglike goblinoids but these days are dragonkin, i.e. small reptiliads. These newer kobolds from Reaper are very much more dragon- or reptile-like than earlier versions that might have been doglike... There are 12 of them in the Bones 4 core set. 6 mooks and 6 leaders. #103-108: Kobold Leaders These are the slightly more powerful kobolds. Some of them might even be 2nd level! Numbered left to right, #103-#108. Also note the many mammary glands on #105. These are supposed to be reptilian? #75-#80: The Kobold Mooks Numbered left to right, #75-#80. Not by best work by far. I did four different colour combinations, three of each. After these there are only 3 models left in the core set to go! 12 1st level mooks vs 1 12th level barbarian berserker. Who will win? Ready! Steady! Fight! #103-108 Kobold Leaders #75-80 Kobold Mooks Bones 4 Core set, 2019 Reaper Miniatures unknown sculptor Made in Bonesium PVC should be available from reapermini.com some time in the future in Bones.

Really enjoyed painting these up, and looking forward to getting the Bones Kickstarter with 12 more unique sculpts. Painted these as a batch of 12 in about 2.5 hours by starting with an all over coat of Vallejo German Red Brown primer, then a wash with Green stuff World Swamp Brown ink. Then just a case of picking out the details, and highlighting the skin with Vallejo Game Colour Tan. I didn't finish off with a wash, as I normally would, because the minis were so small and had a Brown palette. I thought I would just blur the details if I washed them.. The bases are mdf disks (20mm) with Green stuff World roller used to add a texture. That was just painted in Scale 75 Grey Brown and shaded with Army Painter Strong Tone.

One of my players had this character made through Hero Forge. I painted her to his specifications. This is Poro Gemfixer, a kobold sorceress. It has been raining like mad the past few days so I haven't been able to Dulcote her so she is very shiny. Also, the fingerprint on her base is not mine. It is actually in the plastic. Weird!

Thanks for taking a look! Any advice/comments/criticism is welcome! Hi all, I've recently started painting some of my minis (finally) and also got some friends to help. Below I'll show everything thats been done so far, before likely making a showoff thread for the done done ones (some are aaalmost there, need a few more touches. My Work: (2nd mini ever): 77503 Temple Dragon : - I wanted to do some complimentary color on him but couldn't quite decide where. First thought was underbelly and underside of wings, but glued together the underbelly is incredibly hard to paint. I was also considering the larger left and right spines down the middle and/or maybe just the bones/claws that extend from the wings(bone color?) He seems to photograph better than he looks in standard light, hes a bit dark, so without lighting for taking a picture distinguishing much on him is not all that easy. 77506 Kobolds (6): (3rd mini ever) I am trying to somewhat emulate the Kobolds painted on the Bones 4 page ( https://www.reapermini.com/bones4 ) Just starting on them, got a darker skin tone and tried dry brushing over with a lighter, but its hard to keep it localized on such a tiny mini. Painting these seems like it's going to get more frustrating than it is rewarding.. :/ Trying to do linen white for the cloth with maybe a sepia wash over it, then steel for the armor with a black wash Friend 1's WIPs: (He's painted minis before) 77492 Behir: I think he's planning on touching up the mouth area 77494 Dire Bear: I think he wants to differentiate the fur a little more, it's a bit too uniform 77496 Eilluvasheth, Succubus Queen - Wings look great - I think he's not sure how exactly to translate the color scheme/design to the body Friend 2's (new to painting, first minis): Adventurescapes Barrels and Chest: 77382: Vernone, Ivy Crown Knight (Second Mini) 77498 Werearmadillo (3rd mini) Friend 3: (has painted some in past) 80046: Gray Alien Warriors 77493 Brain In a Jar : Needs to paint the bottom clear plastic piece the same metal as the rest of it Thanks for taking a look! Any advice/comments/criticism is welcome! Ignore these -- Too many attachments, can't seem to figure out which ones to delete

well, it seems to have been not quite a year since my last post, and a bit longer since my last post to Show Off. In the meantime, Nissiana and I have purchased a house, which ate most of the Fall, Winter and Spring, and our Summer has been, per usual, filled with rehearsals and performances. Although I am currently imbroiled with a production of "The Three Musketeers," I've managed to unpack some paint kit and brought it to work. My recent lunch breaks have yielded a passel of kobolds and a pile of rats, both of which will likely lurk the basements of Sharn (or the waste drain of an alchemist's lab, in the case of that one rat) soon enough. Anyway, these are all to a very rough "look ma, I finished!" standard, mostly just to knock some rust off my brushes. Hope you enjoy. Penny bases will be blacked eventually.

Hopefully quick question on painting non-traditional colored fire. Basically wanting to make sure I am on the right track here. I am currently painting up the kobold sorceror (the dude on the right) and have the idea of making the fireball in his hand blue (as if he is producing an electrical damage effect). In part, this is to create some additional color since he already has the torch on the left (which I am aiming for a more traditional orange-red flame effect). So the idea I had was to start by painting the whole flame white, then start layering with progressively darker shades of blue. Starting with a relatively light blue and working up to a darker blue by the tips (where it would be cooler). Does this sound about right? As for colors, my blues are somewhat limited still but for the first layer I was thinking either a Heather Blue, or the Arcane Blue by P3. The latter has a bit more green to it, but it brighter. Thoughts? As always, thanks in advance for any help! Edit to add: Forgot the picture! :P

It occurred to me that I have many older completed miniatures in my collection that the good forumites of this board may not be familiar with, but bear special relevance to my time as an artist or to Reaper miniatures. This kobold Hero sculpt was clearly inspired by the Seins kobolds at Reaper, and he serves as a hero for my large kobold warband. It was the first humanoid sculpt I ever completed, circa 2009. It was painted in 2011. Necromancy . Edit: My Painting & sculpting vacation starts today! Yay!

I've had these for many, many years. I am pretty sure they are reaper minis, but I can not find any reference to these particular kobolds when I search. They are very small, here is a scale pic next to a genestealer:

These are a bit old, but they're my first reaper bones. I was working on a piece of apocolyptic style terrain and I realized these guys needed a home I believe I always used some of the 'modern warfare' weapons bits from Chronoscope but I'm not 100% sure. The gasmask is from a Tamiya military bits set. apologies for blurry bit - here's the group taking shelter in a local (ruined) cafe ^^ Mr. Gasmask - because you can never be too prepared, even if you're small! ^^ The fearless leader ^^ Sword and Board, well Hubcap, anyway ^^ because the sign means S T O P that's why ;) Tommygun! The rifleman So, maybe not my best work, but they were a lot of fun to paint and convert. And kobolds are just adorable =D
