Kind of starting this after it's been started, but anyway. The goal is to reproduce the best I can the Song of Blades and Heroes second edition cover art with a small diorama using Reaper miniatures. At the current stage I have the hills roughed out and trying to figure out where to place the bark chips for texture. Had to pick up some plaster filler for between the chips. Laser cut some base ring/holes for the models to slot into when done. Need to build up and around the base rings, thinking of using foam board with cutouts. I also want to add some height to the spell caster kobold. I'll take a new pic once the foam work is done. -JIM Fun fact. This is my favorite game, so much so that I did a lot of the artwork inside the rulebook! A copy of the cover for those who are unfamiliar with the game.

This is my most ambitious attempt to date. A mini-campaign I’m running some people through calls for many kobolds of varying colors and classes. I had 12 Kobolds from Bones I, the 4 pack in metal that those were based off of (03064), the metal Leader and Sorcerer (03024), the 12 awesome new kobolds from Bones 4, and a 7 pack (I may have gotten a freebie, I thought I bought a six pack) of kobolds from the Ral Partha TSR Official D&D 2nd Edition line, stamped 1989. That’s a whopping 37 figures. I want to paint tribes from all 5 chromatic factions, and want to have as few duplicate poses per faction possible. The Ral Partha kobolds have a more simian or canine face compared to the more reptilian face of the Reaper models, but I’m still going to fold those into each faction. The Adventure calls out a Cleric (Red) a Ranger, (Green) and a Sorcerer (Green). Those are the only ones with specific art, and I have models representative of each present without need for modification. Also, I am not planning to add to the bases at all. And I want to finish all of this in about a month (unlikely)! Wish me luck!

I have wanted to get into painting for a long time and have watched days worth of videos on it. i think it shows in how my first minis came out. the first was a reaper kobold and he looks a bit sloppy. (on the card for the hobby holder i got because i could not find anything else to put him on for the pic lol) next was a blue kobold and a baby dragon, I was still working on how washes work with the blue kobold but the dragon came out better. now the one i did today I am pretty proud of him, for being my forth mini i think he looks really good. he is colored like a ring neck snake.

Spent more time basing then painting on these guys! Happy on the results!

I got really sick for almost the whole month of June and it took me some time to get my strength back to paint again. I speed painted these guys this week to get my hands moving again. I'm taking these to a weekend long gaming session this weekend. Then when I return it's back to getting ready for ReaperCon. I hope you like my kobold army. It was fun to paint. To be sure. That last photo isn't from Bones 4.

A whole year and almost no Bones painted. How did that happen? There are still 20 Bones left to paint and the fourth kickstarter is still on track for delivery around next Easter! I have had these kobolds ready to paint since I received the first Bones several years ago. They were part of the Vampire base pledge box, in a subset called "Dungeon Attack" with some giant rats and goblins. I painted the rats ages ago and the goblins are...lets call it awaiting paint. Four sets of three Kobolds, I did each set in a different colour. Funny how I remember Kobolds as doglike small humanoids from my AD&D days, but it seems they are reptilian dragonlike small humanoids now? What happened there? Seeing as they are so small, I based them on bespoke 3D-printed 20mm lipped rounds. And from the Bones II kickstarter, the "matching" Kobold Leaders: ...that are much larger than the others: so I based these on bespoke 3D-printed 25mm lipped rounds to fit the larger minis. The Kobold fighter champion had a soft noodle weapon haft that no amount of hot water would straighten out, so I cut it off and replaced it with a part of a paperclip.

Below I'll show everything thats been done so far, before likely making a showoff thread for the done done ones (some are aaalmost there, need a few more touches. My Work: (2nd mini ever): 77503 Temple Dragon : - I wanted to do some complimentary color on him but couldn't quite decide where. First thought was underbelly and underside of wings, but glued together the underbelly is incredibly hard to paint. I was also considering the larger left and right spines down the middle and/or maybe just the bones/claws that extend from the wings(bone color?) He seems to photograph better than he looks in standard light, hes a bit dark, so without lighting for taking a picture distinguishing much on him is not all that easy. 77506 Kobolds (6): (3rd mini ever) I am trying to somewhat emulate the Kobolds painted on the Bones 4 page ( https://www.reapermini.com/bones4 ) Just starting on them, got a darker skin tone and tried dry brushing over with a lighter, but its hard to keep it localized on such a tiny mini. Here are some more Reaper Bones baddies. I made these guys for my Dungeons and Dragons campaign. I'm betting the numbers on the bases already gave that away though Just about everything I make is for gaming so I have to fight off the temptation of putting too much time into each model.

Kobolds! Who doesn't love the cute little guys? So these guys were a really quick paint job for my ongoing Pathfinder campaign, and I know what you're thinking. "Gargs, that sorceror is purple!" True, he is, but that's he is described in the module. :) Anyway, for a quick paint job at my relatively newbie level, I'm actually pretty happy with these guys. In retrospect, I probably should have chosen a different color for the shirt on the sorceror, but honestly, wasn't sure what would contrast well with his dark skin. Any thoughts for future reference? Eventually, I may go back and add some OSL to the sorceror as well, but trying to tackle two different flame effects was definitely a bit intimidating to me and I wanted to get them done in time for game day. Biggest fear I had was trying to figure out the color of the OSL effect given that the flames are made up of multiple colors themselves. Anyway, as always any comments, critiques, advice, etc. are always appreciated! Thanks for looking!

Here's some love for the little guys, because it isn't all about the big bads. A gang of nasty, orangey kobolds! -E.E.

I bought these some 12 years back, and only just now realized they were mispacked. I have a duplicate, as you can see, but one of those "stabber and board" guys should presumably be the kobold with a spear shown in the store picture. Just noting that they came that way in the pack, and it's not just a random batch I pulled out of The Drawer of Horrors. A kobold is a kobold, and I'll need some... *counts* 5 more packs of these, so I imagine some spear dudes will appear there. I'm especially fond of the big one, who definitely lifts.

A quick paint and my first real basing experience. I used green stuff and a Happy Seppuku stamp. I am happy with how they turned out and I learned a lot in the process. The kobolds are nothing special, just cannon fodder for some pesky adventurers.

These little guys were my first test at table top quick paints. I plan to use them for a game this weekend, and needed to get several done fast. I think I have right at 3 hours in them, not including the priming. I was considering basing them, but I decided not to, just painted the base they were on. I posted the beginnings of them, and a completed group shot in the WIP forum. Here are the singles. Sorry for the bad pictures, as my camera was stolen. I am currently back to using my iphone, and I don't quite have it down. Overall, these little guys were a basecoat, minor highlights, and washes. I was going for a little better than the normal prepaints. I am happy with how they came out. CAH

Finally, I started working on painting my first miniature! I've tried starting since the Bones 3 Kickstarter, and I want to thank everyone for their encouragement. Let's see what I've done so far. Wilson and Optimus!!!!!!!!!!!!!: My sacrificial constructs, I learned a lot from these little things. I primed WIlson with Krylon Black Matte Paint+Primer and Optimus with Plaid Clear Matte Acrylic Sealer, both painted with FolkArt acrylic paints and a size 0 Daler Rowney nylon brush. I learned a lot from them like some brush techniques and the importance of watering down thicker paints. Now, my first Kobold figure: I used the same black primer on this one. Had to strip it once because I sprayed it on a little too thick. Lesson learned. First shot at painting: Finally slopped paint on my first miniature. I painted this with Citadel Mephiston Red and a 00 Winsor & Newton synthetic brush. I would have used a sable or sable/synthetic brush but because of Russia things, the hobby store I went to wasn't able to restock. Poopy. I learned to control how much paint should be on the brush and how my brush strokes affect where the paint gets applied. I deliberately chose a small figure instead of a standard size one purely to force myself to learn control and painting techniques that will help me with larger ones. Now I need to decide if I should try lighter on the skin and if I should drybrush the new layer on, or if I should start painting the armor and accessories. Well, here goes nothing.

When Bones 3 arrives, I'm thinking of assembling an army for Ma'aldrakar. Now, given that Ma'aldrakar represents Tiamat, the logical foot soldiers would be kobolds. Here's the problem - Reaper (and all other manufacturers I can find) only supply the Psuedo-doglike kobolds of 2e and before. I am much more a fan of 3e/Pathfinder's pygmy dragonborn/lizardmen. So, Reaper forumers, my question to you is this - do you know of anyone who makes 3e/Pathfinder style Kobolds?

Just watched a 6 minute tutorial where the painter used an airbrush to paint the bones kobold pack. It is a Tabletop paint job, but there is some stuff here for beginners with an airbrush to see how one can be used in doing minis... George

Well I got back from my second week of vacation in August, and realized I only had week and a day to get my quota done for the Resolutionary Painting Challenge for this month! A quick Sunday night dig through my drawers of Bones and I found some Kobolds to speed paint. These 9 were painted in maybe 4 hours over 5 lunch hours last week. Just base coats and a few details. Then brought home and Quickshaded. I then sprayed the first 3 with anti-shine, which frosted (due to the humidity I assume). So they were coated with a gloss brush on to try to save them. It brought them back some but they are still a little frosty in a few places...oh well, these are for table top ... They were then all coated with a brush on matt sealer. I may give them a bit more attention with the matt sealer tomorrow evening, but its almost 1 am here, so good enough for tonight...

These guys were actually a lot of fun to paint up. With the new version of the game out I am very excited to get painting all the rest of the core box and move on to the forgotten king and all the heroes. Looking forward to the single player mode as I seem to have a few issues finding players around here. Enjoy the pics and if you have any advice on anything let me know. Thanks!

I got a new vampire box of bones, from the friend who talked me into buying one in the first place. So now I get to repaint all the minis I painted when I was just starting. is now This guy is a repost, now with gold bracers. He is from mice and mystics board game (I only bought the figures) and has gone from hero to villain In my campaign he is known as "The Lord of Cats" This figure will shortly serve as a Dire Lion, so I wanted to paint him as cat like as possible. Ill post the earlier (hellhound version) after I get a new picture of him. I think I completed hound in late 2013, shown is a second attempt at the him, the first was terrible. and thankfully has no photos.

One of my December painting goals is to finish off any minis I have that would have fallen under the "Dungeon attack" portion of the first Bones KS. I had already painted one set of kobolds when I first started painting bones but I still had three more lying around. The first group had been done in a reddish brown, but I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with the rest. Then I remembered (or perhaps made up) that some edition of DnD had kobolds that matched whatever type of dragon they served. Since I already kinda had red ones and didn't want to paint white ones, I painted a set of green, blue, and black. It's kind of nice just to paint for tabletop and not sweat the details on occasion. At the very least it's a lot faster! And as a bonus, a "let's decide to autofocus on the middle row" shot.
