Had them painted up, and the shark, but didn't have a good story until a friend gave me one of the Juvenile Kraken mini. Between the shark's integral splash-base, the squid's splash-stand, and the Water Elemental, we got some good scenery! I had a lot of fun making the Fisherman's Rest backdrop, too. Old Barkeep has heard all of these yarns before.

I barely received my last campaign pledge from Midlam that already it has something that caught my interest. Sisters of the Kraken Cult. The female counterparts of the previous "Onslaught of the Cult of the Kraken Lord" and "Cultists of the Kraken Lord". (I now have some regret of not getting it) What's also interesting is the optional add-on of fish folk. Brinewind is going to have some interesting neighbors.

Hello! I've recently started working on a diorama, and a friend of mine urged me to post here. The only thing that is missing from the pictures below is the kelp that will be behind the kraken (on the little pads on the back side of the base). It is some floppy aquarium kelp that I"m currently trying to figure out how to get it to stand up straight. Tips, tricks, C&C are all welcomed. Here is the pre-primed coral wall in varying states of sand coverage. The coral is planned to be very brightly colored. Primed base: You can see the kelp pads in the pic above. Base with Kraken for staging verification: Here is the almost finished diver, who goes in the slot in front of the Kraken. This drab, dirty human looking down at his feet while the kraken looms above is one of my favorite parts, tbh. Cheers! Valk

Hey all, I'm looking for advice on gluing the spar that holds the Kraken up. I tried super glue, but when I actually put the Kraken on it, it came loose. More super glue? Hot glue? What has worked for others?

Here is the first shot of my latest project, the Kraken. I sprayed the ship black, and then highlighted with successively lighter shades of brown/ochre/beige. i actually did a fair amount of blending on the pallet for this one.

I've started the Kraken, since I've gotten strong hints that it will be a useful figure soon. Here are the pieces primed with Reaper's Brown Liner: You may notice that not only is the shipwreck separate, but the Kraken itself is in two pieces, the body / tail and the mouth / head / tentacles. This is because yesterday my youngest pointed out that another Kraken I was assembling for a friend, parked briefly in a decorative candleholder, looked just like a giant plant monster. Sort of like this: Anyhow, I plan to paint the front end sort of plantlike and the back end sort of spiny lobsterlike and blue-tac them together when needed to be a Kraken. The first thing I did was throw some medium bright green on, because plants and algae. It's still a bit wet in these pictures, and so looks brighter and more opaque than it really is. I'm just slopping the paint on at this point, getting color more or less where I want it, to be refined and nuanced later. Next I added some pure Mars Red, thinned down a bit so it's not opaque, to make the body look more lobsterlike. I mixed the red with some Titanium White to make a dull pink and painted around the creature's mouth. I hope to eventually make the tentacle canopy look disturbingly flowerlike. I mixed a soft yellow-brownish very pale cream color and scumbled it almost dry onto the creature's belly and corresponding outside of its tentacle canopy. Then I started mixing some dull grey-browns and bringing up weathered wood lights on the shipwreck (Reaper Sea Hag, unfinished, for scale). I started painting the creature's tentacles green. I ran out of the color about halfway around. I mixed a new batch which was brighter and yellower, and here is one of my big painting principles: It doesn't matter if the colors don't match. I almost never paint with a single color, and I layer on so many different colors for highlights and shading that by the end they more or less match anyway. Not only don't I sweat color matching, I prefer to paint with variations of colors to get a richer effect than any single color can manage, no matter how pure. Anyway, here are the tentacles in progress. I didn't take any in-focus pix of the shipwreck, but I dry-brushed some of the same bright green on it for more algae. And here's one last shot of the tentacles with more of the yellower brighter green brought over the duller, darker one.

Forumites may remember I painted this more than a year ago. Which I did, and then I, errr forgot to take finished pictures and post them. Sorry. I'm fixing that. This is Reaper's Bones kraken, #77291, which I believe was once offered in a resin-metal combo but is now sold in the much lighter and less fragile (and less expensive) Bonesium. When I put one together for a friend, I noted that the front end would make a pretty good carnivorous plant, especially when tucked into a lotus flower-shaped candleholder we have. It also seemed a pretty good evocation of the Sarlacc in "The Return of the Jedi". So when I put my own together, I left the body and the front end separate, both for ease of storage and for versatility of use. (I never did figure out how to put the tentacles on, though. I tried to follow the store image in both the ones I put together and they still both came out different.) I also love this model because it comes with a wonderfully elaborate base, the prow of a wrecked ship. We have been using that as scenery. Some of the creature has been painted with interference paint, which is either near-transparent or luminously glowing iridescent color depending on the angle of light and viewing. I've tried to include pictures to show the change. First are photos with a white background, to show the model clearly (I went a little overboard with underwater effects later). A few have Dark Sword Miniatures' mermaid warrior, DSM 1197, to show the scale of the model. This creature is BIG. So this is the start of a big project...Space Kraken!! I picked up 77291: Kraken in Bones, today i'm going to the hobby store to take a look and see what I want to do for basing if you dont' know who space kraken is, here's what he is: and he's going ot be painted up like this dragon i painted

Hey all - I haven't been painting as much the last few weeks since school is back in session, and that means I've suddenly gotten very busy. But I did manage to put aside all the usual hassles a couple nights ago and paint up a few Rach fighters! The paint scheme is the same as my usual Rach force: the Khaki triad mainly, purple accents, and then a blood red cockpit. The big difference between my fighters and others you might see on any other CAV table is that mine are well above the ground. I wanted to give my fliers the bird's-eye view they deserve, so I mounted them on heavy washers and used brass rod to elevate them. I think these are in the 6" ballpark, but I would have to double-check. Also, I still need to flock the bases and tidy these up, but I think this is close enough for now.

A quick question posted here because I'm not sure it would get a response in modelling / converting (etc.): Does anyone know the exact diameter of the hole in the bottom of the flying Bones CAV fighters? It looks like 3/16" or about 2mm, but I wanted to see if anyone knew for sure. I'm using steel washers and brass rod to mount my fliers much higher than the stands provided - I want them to look like they're well above ground (probably about 6-8 inches up). Thanks in advance!

I painted this around 9 months to a year ago and am just now getting up the courage to start posting some of my minis. This one I'm pretty proud of. My photography skills on the other hand could use some work.

Hi, I'm continuing to paint my Rach force from CAV SO kickstarter in my NOD-like scheme. For this post, I went easy with only 1 mini added: the Rach Kraken. I wanted to keep it simple with mostly grays and just a bit of red. But then, somewhere along the way, I lost track of this idea and made the bottom look like a X-mas tree with plenty of lights... Anyways, this mini was also the opportunity to experiment with painting the boosters at the back. C&C welcome And the usual incremental group shot:

Here's my first stab at the cool Rach Kraken. I stole inspiration from a picture I found online of one of the older CAV Krakens (the A model?) that had multiple red hues stippled onto it. I just did some red on top of gray liner and some black for the cockpit. I think maybe I should use some glossy sealer on the cockpit. The mottled red doesn't show as well in these pictures, but I'm really happy with it in person. Pew pew!

Yesterday one of our gaming friends showed up with a bagged Reaper Bones kraken and asked me prettily to please assemble it (he brought steak; it wasn't all one-sided). We were gaming, so I did the usual Bones prep beforehand and started gluing during lulls in the game. When I had the front tentacles and mouth assembled, I needed to set them in something to cure while getting back to the game. I nabbed the first likely thing, a votive candleholder shaped like a lotus blossom (available wherever vaguely spiritual tchotchkes are found), plopped the front end in it and set it on the sideboard. At which point my youngest pointed out that it looked like a terrifying plant creature. I didn't leave it like that because my friend needed his kraken, but it suggested some interesting directions for conversion of the kraken into a giant carnivorous plant.

I just assembled my Kraken from the Bones 2 Kickstarter. I'll try to track progress here. It was hard to decide where to put which tentacles, but I figured out something that works for me. I'm going to have to putty those joints and sand down a few mold lines, then off to paint!

Hi all, I'm looking for a 28mm scale (or a little smaller maybe) small boat with someone fishing from in. Small row-boat or a tad larger. I've been through the Reaper site and haven't come up with anything yet. My Google-fu hasn't yielded much luck either. Toying with a diorama idea with the kraken and he needs a victim. Any help would be much appreciated.

This is my first time posting any of my figs and this is my first big one. After getting my Kickstarter I just had to do this, plus we are playing razor coast game. I will admit that I viewed 2 others on here before starting to get some ideas, I also pulled up pictures of squids and octopuses. Also I have to figure out how to post from my tablet. So no promises. Also I hope my colors aren't too off, I am partially colorblind so they may look funky. After taking this close up I really need to work on brush control. The mouth was my hardest part but to my eyes it looks good. Again need brush control and better glasses and magnifier since I see more with camera then my eyes. Joe

So, I determined the first Bones 2 mini I would paint would be the Kraken, so far I've only had the chance to glue him up and put a base coat of dark grey on him, but I'll try to post more pics as I continue painting his Cephalopodishness.
