Hey guys! It feels like it's been too long and I miss you all! I received the sculpting assignment for the Brinewind Expansion Doxie figures and I'm excited to post a follow along thread to share my process! These were really interesting figures. I received the concept art (done by the amazing Izzy "Talin" Collier) and began discussing with the art director some of the major changes that would need to be made. Mainly, we didn't want the orc character attached to the bed. She would be fun to play as an NPC or a PC and we didn't want to limit her usefulness for gamers by having her attached to the terrain piece. Izzy had already provided an alternate pose sketch for her so we are going with that. The more refined piece is still SUPER useful for costuming, attitude, facial expression, and general demeanor of the character. One of the things I really love about Izzy's art is that she communicates the personality and archetype of the figure SO well. I can imagine how this girl moves, how she talks, what she would like/not like. This is such a great skill to have as a concept artist because when the project gets handed to the sculptor major elements might need to be changed for any number of production reasons. Even if I have to adjust major elements of the figure I can do so with a solid idea of what would fit with the character's personality. I love this drawing so much! haha They're all great but this one really seemed like a lot of fun. Ron explained that the bed was made of salvaged ship parts (an idea I absolutely loved) and I think it'll be fun for people to find all the little elements throughout. Some of the body type influences for this figure were Kim K., Marilyn Monroe, and body builders. Here's where I was at after studying those references and creating a ZSphere rig that I was happy with. I moved the right arm to rest on her hip because I was struggling to figure out how she would rest her elbow on her lowered hip without looking unnatural/awkward. I felt like this had a good flow so I started building some musculature to make sure that the body type I was envisioning would still work in this pose. Turns out that I needed to adjust the right arm because I hadn't left enough space to build up the hip area but that was a simple adjustment. I made the arm a separate subtool by masking and splitting it from the rest of the body (dynameshing both resulting pieces) so that I could adjust it in the future as necessary without too much hassle. (https://i.postimg.cc/44V546hB/Orc-Doxie-WIP-1-5.jpg) Linked for nudity. On review we realized this was way too similar to the pose of another character from the KS so that right arm was going to have to change. We tossed around a few options. Maybe have that arm raised behind her head, hand in her hair. Arm down just hanging, this felt too lackluster. Elbow bent resting her hand on her chest, this looked too dainty to suit her personality. Tugging at the corner of her corset to entice a client, good but not great. We decided on having her pulling up her skirts to show a little extra leg. This seemed to suit her demeanor/approach to sales well and maintained a good flow to the composition so I reposed the arm and blocked in some basic forms. ...and that's where we end day 1. I spent the first half of the day gathering reference and working on concepts for other projects so this really only represents about a half day of work on this figure but so far I'm liking how she's coming together. Thanks for checking it out, i'll see you guys again tomorrow!
Infamy One Shot #1 (Hob)Goblin Chieftain
knarthex posted a topic in Works in Progress: PaintingThe Death Chicken Commences! I had a little time tonight, so I continued with Infamy Mini's One Shot Goblin Chieftain. First off, He is a big boy, so I am going to think of him as a Hobgoblin, instead of a goblin. (Sorry Buglips) He will have Orange skin, as all my Hobgoblins do... Secondly, this resin is very different from the other resin minis I have worked with, much softer and more flexible than the Forge World Iron Warriors Dreadnought I built, or Battlefront's resin vehicle bodies... It is Fragile as Hades! Ias I was slowly sawing the chicken's lower jaw off the sprue with an X Acto saw, I broke one of the spikes where the reins attach.... 5 minutes of unholy speech, and crawling around the floor rewarded me with the piece, which I carefully glued back into place... I fear for the attachment of this figure to a base! The only point touching the ground is it's right foot, and the shape of it's ankle / foot /leg precludes driving a pin up the length of it's leg. I may have to re-think that, and drill the hole anyway and hide the wire so I have a semi sturdy attachment point... Thoughts ideas anyone? As a temporary solution for painting, I drilled a hole in it's belly for a wire to support it whilst paint is applied... Parts fit so far has been good, after removing sprue attachments etc. Left leg and Lower jaw... Still lots to assemble, next will be the 'wings'... This will definitely be a paint the rider separately job, and the way he attaches to the bird, he may get a wire for me to hide between his bum and the saddle, as the only attachment points there are the insides of his shins, and the straps of the reins.... Here is a scan of the Artwork that came with the KS: The mini follows the art almost exactly... And 2 pics of the Death Chicken so far: Little bit of gap filling to do... George

She has just started listening to " The Dark elf trilogy" and its her first taste of fantasy other then Lotr and she asked me to help her make a char, so why not one she understands. The NMM isnt very well done, looks fine for a table top but doesnt look like metal. I only whited the eyes (poorly at that). Took 4-6 hours, All said and done looks aiight Was real ruff on this guy slapped paint on him and first go at blacklining (which I still dont seem to get !) if I black line eyes they all look like drag queens.. Bats were super quick but with a ok base looks pretty good The well looks ok, I filled the water with pva and blue paint but little did I know the pva shrinks/disappears and left the paint like a high tide mark. Next investment might be water finish The D'orks! Really loved painting these guys though the BBEG might sit on the self of shame! Bones KS and Alternate Bits/Sculpts
Illithar posted a topic in KickstarterI looked to see if this question had been asked and answered but I couldn't find anything around or in the FAQ on the KS so, apologies if it has been asked an I'm just blind... Will the miniatures from the Kicstarter come with the alternate pieces that the original metal mini's have? For example the Rosie, Chronotechnician can either be wielding a rifle or a giant wrench. Will the Bones that come from the Kickstarter have these alternate bits?
Reaper KS article @ Wired.com
Kay posted a topic in KickstarterNot sure how many people saw the article but I scoured the forum and didn't see anything posted about it so here you go if you missed it. I'm just going to post the link (hopefully) so you can head there yourself and save some space here. It's a great, albeit short, piece about the impact Reaper's KS is having on the RPG industry and what it says for the future of the gaming market. Great job guys!! http://www.wired.com/design/2012/08/reaper-miniatures-bones-kickstarter-success/
