Good evening again Keepers of Reaper! So this one, also just finished this morning and photographed this afternoon is a female archer sculpted by Dennis Mize back in the day for Ral Partha and part of their Silver and Steel collection, where Dennis Mize sculpted figures based on Larry Elmore drawings and paintings Only a little metal to worry about, she was a pretty quick paint job. The one thing I think should have been was her arm guard at the back probably should have just been flesh, but I totally blew it off so painted it as cloth to match her loincloth. So anyhoos, another mini for your viewing pleasure! An Edit: Also just added a close up because her eyebrow on the left side as the viewer sees it looked a little bit odd, but I think it's just shadow with the hairline against the side of her head: Close up I see where it begins and ends, but it was looking a little awkward further away.

Good morning alll you Reaperniks! Taking advantage of a later shift this morning to post this lovey lady, a figure sculpted by Dennis Mize for one of the Silver and Steel boxes, which were boxes based on paintings and drawings by Larry Elmore back in the latter eighties early nineties. This one is appropriate called female warrior with sword and torch: and of course always fun to do a close up, even if it may show some of those close up errors: Still fun in any case to take advantage of this close up technology. I should take a bunch of closeups of the minis I painted in the eighties, and maybe that way I'd stop complaining about what I do nowadays! Anyhows, enjoy!

Hello ReaperWorld! So here is a lady I just finished, one that came from the Silver and Steel series that Reaper did years way back. Sculpted by Dennis Mize, based on some Larry Elmore artwork. I think from what I have seen, the actual artwork was black and white and the box art was with her being blonde and pink clothing, so I had all my options open. So here she is:

The second figure I painted this week, got quite a lot done. This is one of the Silver and Steel figures from the boxed sets based on Larry Elmore art. Once again, figuring out colors was a pain, especially it took forever for me to figure out what color I was going to paint the little dragon, and in the end, he just turns out to be green. Pale skin, dark hair, hopefully it was a good combination!

So I finished this one a while ago, which was part of a three -piece Partha set that was based on a painting of Larry Elmore, Bones of the Past. I already finished the two ladies in the painting, so this was the last one. I tried to keep him relatively faithful to the original painting as far as the color scheme, but there are always going to be a few slight differences. Here then is the painting this one came from: and the two links to the other figures: So all three of them are finished, let's see what I can work on next!

So, here are two miniatures I just got done painting and basing last night. I ended up painting these two as well as another figure (front with a link for nudity) at the same time because I was starting out with the same skin colors, beginning with Tanned Skin. One thing I did with the female pirate's sword and metal was I used Ashen Blue as my base color, then used deeper blues, then dark elf skin and shadow, then black, and worked upwards with lighter greys and finally white. With the bases, which I also do very simply, I did the pirate bases starting with a base of blonde hair, then terran khaki. The thought was to make sand, but who knows how well that worked out. Hello all, so here are two figures I just finished recently from Ral Partha. The first one is from the Larry Elmore set Bones of the Past, I think sculpted by Jeff Grace, which was based off a painting Larry Elmore did I think perhaps for a book cover. I tried to actually use the same color scheme on my mini as showed up in the painting, but I ended up changing up the belt because in the painting it was red and she already had red details and pants. I did the other figure a wile back ago, the gal with the purse, loincloth and little else. Here's the link to that one: I think, that linked up okay. Then here is another figure I did, Jee-Anna the armored warrior priest (ess) a figure sculpted by Jim Johnson quite a while back ago. I really like this figure and wanted to give her just dark, blacks and greys, so hopefully with this color scheme I ended up getting what I wanted. With the base, I ended up sculpting some more stones because it was one of those stone floor bases. Anyway, hope you enjoy them!

My 2016 project list is relatively short, but populated with larger figures. I will am going to paint 28mm minis, but I'm focusing on 54mm and larger for the experience and learning opportunities they bring. First on the list is the orc shaman from Dark Sword Miniature's Journey to the Gathering vignette, which is based on Larry Elmore's painting of the same name. After about 3 hours of work, not counting prep time, he is starting to take shape. I decided to keep close to the colors used in the original painting, so blue skin tones it is. The skin is based around Midnight Blue, Ashen Blue, Snow Shadow, and Ghost White. There is a touch of Rosy Shadow, Rosy Skin, and Rust Brown for his ears and nose. I spent the past weekend doing prep work for all the other figures on my project list, so hopefully I'll get back to him next weekend when I have time for an extended paint session.

So just got done painting some more old school Ral Partha classics, this time a set sculpted by Dennis Mize in 1996 (if you believe the bottom of the base) called Dark Divide, which was based on a Larry Elmore painting: My original thought was to actually paint it a little more faithfully to the original colors, but I ended up doing the gal's dress in green instead of pink and I made the vampire a lot more pale than he was in the painting. Being that the painting shows them being inside, I also just did a very generic bland base, instead of it being outside with dirt and grass, or even by making them over cobblestones or something similar. After seeing how he came out in the photos, I'm not overly happy with the armor for the warrior, but oh well, not going to change it now. I was going to take these pictures yesterday, but I've been using natural light any more to take photos with and it was so cloudy and rainy yesterday that I just couldn't get a decent photo. Anyhow, great fun to paint, pretty simple models, hope you all enjoy!

So, using this new version of the forum, very exciting! So just got these two finished last night and photos taken this afternoon. Two pretty simple figures, I actually chose them because they were simple, kind of a "between projects" little paint job, and the added bonus was that they were mostly skin and cloth, very little armor, which is somewhat traumatizing. Reasonably happy on how they turned out. For the thief, her eyes were very deeply set, like some of Dennis Mize's figures are, so once I was actually able to get an eyeball into her, I didn't try to add an additional color or anything And the thief looks a little angry, but I think it's more the sculpt than my paint job, but who's to say for sure? and she has darkish skin and Dark hair, so dark brown eyes weren't too much of a stretch on her anyway. These two came from an old Silver and Steel Partha set from Ral Partha, the sets that were full of Larry Elmore beauties. For the mage, I didn't really go into it with any preconception of colors, so who knows where the reds and pinks came from, but I think it turned out kind of nicely, with vibrant colors instead of blah ones. So anyways, enjoy!

So here's the figure I was talking about in another post, where I was lamenting about sealants and how they sometimes rubbed off details of my photos. I tried a new method though, and I think I've hopefully solved the problem. Here is the Ral Partha Female Barbarian with Short Sword, which was sculpted by the great Jim Johnson, and which was inspired from a Larry Elmore painting called Warband. Back then in the day, Partha did an entire box of figures dedicated to the painting. This is one of them, even though I didn't follow the painting's color scheme. ​I took a few pictures of her from a few different angles because she's not so flat and I think it helps appreciate the figure. So here are four I just finished yesterday and got photographed this morning. I tried to get them photographed yesterday afternoon, but it was way too cloudy to get any good light. Anyhow, here are four figures, a Lord of the Household, Max Mentalus the wizard, Frea Koolblade, and a Larry Elmore chick from one of Partha's Elmore boxes. Have a look and I hope you enjoy. I keep seeing little things that bother me in each one, but oh well, as a buddy of mine tells me, you're never satisfied with your own work when it's done.

Designed by Larry Elmore, sculpted by Jeff Grace. I spotted it in a game store and thought it was way more interesting than the pure eye candy mermaids. I was concerned about the flimsiness of the join between arms and arm sockets, so I pinned them. With very. Tiny. Wires. The arms were mighty thin to begin with. I may have left the pinning wires a bit long, making her upper arms a bit long. I deliberately didn't give her pupils. I wanted her to have preternatural, milky nonhuman eyes. I figured mermaids would not have easy access to metal, so I painted her armor and weapon as if they were made of coral, ivory, and bone. In the fourth picture for some reason the colors came out very bright, but the other pictures are more true to life.
