My goal here was to push myself to go as fast as possible. Start to finish it took approx. 2.5 hours, which is definitely a record for me. Contrary to my usual practice, I painted the integral base; when I do get around to doing a proper base, I will likely integrate it into the display. C&C welcome.

Finished her up the other night. She's been on my desk for years, part of a batch of anthropomorphs I started and didn't quite finish. Yes, the colors are that bright. She has a ton of detail in her clothing but the body is kind of bland, so I went with brighter colors for interest.

I got this to be my first bust to paint, sourced from Figone. CMPA had the "Bust a Move" challenge, so I finally painted him up. Yep, first bust! Next time I'll try a human or humanoid. Mounting him was kinda a nuisance, but I did something basic. He has a magnet on his back, and I greenstuffed a magnet to a nail. I can change the base later if I want. He's the first of my limited palette challenges, and I used blue because blue is a pretty easy one and I thought he'd do well with it. I smooth blended the face, and semi-smooth blended the mane, and went back for fur texture with a tone just one or two steps off of the layer beneath it. I imagined him as a lion day dreaming of a fantasy world, and a bit whimsical. Eyes: NMM Gold Triad (Shadow, Base, Highlight), Dragon White, Pure Black, S75 Tindalos Red. The Majority of Stuff: Pure White, Ghost White, Morning After Blues, Sky Blue, Dragon Blue (base fur color), Midnight Blue, Nightmare Black, Vallejo Game Color Black Ink.

CMPA is doing a "Bust a Move" challenge. I've been meaning to paint this lion for a while. The only non blue part are his eyes. The rest will be 50 Shades of Blue. I am basing with Dragon Blue, but intend to subdue it with less saturated blues as I go. First bust and first monochrome! Okay, almost monochrome

Tuma Windrider from Legendarion. Another joy to paint with much detail. For those interested my WIP: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/62313-xherman1964-paints-tuma-windrider-legendarion-bust/ Hope you like him. Personally I was more satisfied with my job on the Hyena then on this one, but he was fun.

For my Broken Gods D&D game, I've painted up all the figures for my group and am now getting around to painting up their mounts and animal companions. First off we have Bagheera, the Panther based off artwork in the spoiler. Bagheera is the animal companion of the party's monk/ranger and normally it is a standard medium-sized panther that he can use to fight along side him, but the panther can grow into this large mount when needed. Next is the Golden Lion, the mount of the party's bard, based on the artwork below: Next is the Nightmare for the party's warlock, based on the artwork below: I painted up the standard medium sized panther to use when it is needed. The monk/ranger also gained a (perhaps) temporary follower in "Jim the Brown Bear" which I also decided to paint up for this adventure and future adventures as a companion or just standard bear. All of these are painted up tabletop to tabletop+ standards. I didn't want to put too much work into them as they are just meant to be on the tabletop and not to be put into any contests. Larger panther and the lion are the lioness and lion from Bones 3. The smaller panther and the brown bear are bones animal companions. The Nightmare is from one of Tre's kickstarters. It has a barbarian that goes on the saddles, which of course I omitted here and I'll either toss the barbarian in the BOGW or put him in the melt bin at ReaperCon now that he's not really needed and I covered the hole in the saddle where he would normally attach. There's one missing mount, a silver and black fox that I may also paint up for the 4th member of the group. She paints minis too, so I'm thinking I'll give her a wolf figure that looks very foxlike to have her do it herself especially since I have so many other projects I need to finish up on this month. Anyhow, C&C are welcomed and appreciated! EDIT!! Adding more pics of the figures in more close-up shots for each one.

Today, I'm not feeling working on my main ReaperCon project for the diorama so I figured to stay productive and still do something I'll go ahead and start a WIP thread for some tabletop to tabletop+ painted figures of mounts and/or animal companions for the characters in my D&D game. First off I'm doing these three bones figures: animal companion brown bear (Jim), animal companion black panther (Alex), and Phantasmal blue panther mount (Bagheera). These are for the monk/ranger character in my D&D 'Broken Gods' game. I will use some green stuff to even out and blend into the bones broccoli bases, the bigger panther will get a green stuff made saddle and harness. After I'm done with these three: I will paint up a golden lion (the companion to the panther figure from bones 3 I believe) Find a fox figure big enough to be a mount - will need to be about 1 1/2 to 2 inches long. Acquire a nightmare figure for a mount or modify a horse or unicorn

Another attempt at clearing the backlog, I painted up a bunch of lions. Reaper Bones lions on bigger square bases (Reaper Bones 77341) Classic Lions from Ral Partha (31-031): Another really old miniature that I thought was a Grenadier piece, but its actually from Ravens Forge (SKU CON1013). It is one of a pair of lions, I have the other mini somewhere.

So this ReaperCon, I took Gene Van Horne's Bones conversion class (and Bob Ridolfi was there too) This was one of the critters I made. He is the Chimera body, with an unknown piece for the tail tip, the spider legs from the demon spider thing, the Tilik warrior's fin, and the silver dragon's head with a sculpted lower jaw The day after my class, I sat with Julie Guthrie and she showed me how to do various textures. She really liked my conversion, but advised taking him apart and redoing him, and so I did! Here he is, re-assembled and with my best attempts at green stuff texture I"m afraid I don't have any pictures of him before I took him apart...someone else might Since next Reapercon looks like it's horror themed, I'm quite tempted to enter this fellow. Julie thinks I should, so I probably will

With the sudden surge of busts being done recently, I decided to finally start the one I have sitting on my paint desk. It is Tuma Windrider from Ledgendarion Miniatures and it is a beast of a bust. This is one of the better resin casts I have seen as there was very little flash and almost no pinhole that needed filling and the detail is on another level from what I usually paint. Having finally gotten my airbrush setup finished, I plan to use my airbrush for a good amount of the painting. This is a good sized mini that I think will be a great place to start with airbrush blending. Or it could go horribly wrong and end up in the dip. I'll also be breaking out my lathe to make a nice display base for this. Maybe some African hardwood or something. Not sure yet. Thus far I have only removed what mold lines I could see on the larger part. I haven't touched the shield or weapons just yet. So on to some pics of where I am now... hair details... Paint Me...

My gaming session Friday saw my pathfinder summoner's eidolon become large. So a new mini is needed. The eidolon, named Frost, is your typical ca-like pouncer. I had a gw white lion on hand so... The girl in the pic is my summoner Dakota. Who is blonde, blue eyed Nordic looking but was found as a child and raised by a Native American like barbarian tribe. The hell hound is the pre upgrade Frost.

What to do for my April resolutionary challenge? I haven't actually decided yet! Apart from painting a bunch of minis that is. As per the resolutionary painting challenge guidelines, I will post them here, and link in my post in the challenge thread. So the second mini I did today was the metal Mawbeast, from Mantic's first Deadzone kickstarter. This metal Marauder Mawbeast was delivered in the second wave, together with a bunch of characters all in metal. This Mawbeast differs from the restic ones in the original Marauders set in that it does not have any techno-gubbins on it, nor the chainsaw blade in it's mouth. It could equally well be used in a Fantasy setting. At any rate, I thought it looked like a lion, what with the mane and all. So I painted it like one. Rawrr. 25mm base, metal.

02880: Lion Man THE WIP: 02880: Lion Man Brothers Of Tooth And Claw Sige -------- Barton -------- Pa'oul -------- Dagmar Dust of the Colosseum – Part 4 The captain of the guard stopped in front of the entrance, “The time has come to fight again Barton,†glancing up from his chair Barton nods and replies, “Yes I know.†In the corner of the room sat an elder lion, Barton’s great uncle. After staring down the captain as he left the elder lion grumbled at Barton, “Do you? Because you seem to wait. Are you a scared cub again?†Withdrawing a stone from his blade and standing up barton replied, “Quiet you old fool,†howling the elder lion chimes in return, “Ahrrrr, in my day we use to rush to the battle.†Barton replies, “Yes and in your day you use to eat cubs and your generation died in the millions.†Satisfied that he silenced the old lion, the elder lion quickly fired back with a prideful grin, “True, but we were known as the most terrifying enemy in the land. Not even the king would dare challenge our people, NOW look at us, you’re his pet.†Continuing on his diatribe the elder lion walks over to Barton, placing a hand on his shoulder, “Why do you fight for this king? He is just using you.†Strapping his freshly sharpened sword to his hip Barton replies, “Because the money’s good and if I fight, he will kill our people last…†Silently they both acknowledged the horror that rest in front of their people. “…Barton, may the prophets guide you†__________________________________________________________________ [This guy got 3rd place in a small reaper forums painting contest. I'm very proud. :) ]

So I was reading the thread about the lost gems in the Reaper catalog and thought about one of my first Reaper minis and still a favorite---Reaper War. I did a search on the forumn and couldn't find a painted example, so thought I'd finally quit pestering everyone and actually post a mini to show off. I painted this in the mid '90s I would guess. About all I did at that time was simple dry brushing and controlled washes. I could tweak him, but I like his current state for sentimental reasons. May buy another to paint if I ever get caught up on the mountain of lead. Anyways, hope you enjoy this throw back mini. Edit: forgot that the sculpt was by Richard Kerr

Hi all, So here are the last two I've painted up, to nice little lions sculpted way back in around 1982 ( or at least that's what the bottom of them say ) by painting legend and goddess Julie Guthrie. I'm kind of on my lion- colored kick with my manticore before these and the next one is my chimera also by Julie Guthrie that I'll be trying to finish up next. The bases were literally one millimeter too big to actually set on one of the middle-size bases, so I ended up putting them on large bases. I really did just a quick bit of dirt and grass, didn't want to bother with any stones or anything like that. I ended up finding that the poor Winsor and Newton Series 7 size two brush that I'd given up for detail work works really nicely for base coats and bases and general coverage, so that's inspiring. Anyway hope you enjoy them! Mark

Hi everyone, I just started working on this beautiful model. Leorelex was sculpted by Geoff Valley and was released in 2004. For now, I only started working on the putty base. I want to make it look like it's an eroded sea shore. I'm mixed between sculpting waves or using realistic water effect. Should I sculpt green stuff waves like I did for my Karkarius or Scuttlebones, or should I try using realistic water to creats a more transparent aspect?

I attended PAX-East back in April and tried the Reaper Mini Paint a Mini for an Hour and have been hooked on painting minis ever since. This is the first post-PAX mini I painted.
