  1. Reptile-people... I use a *lot* of reptile-people in games. Not my games, necessarily - but there's a couple published books that are heavy on Yuan-ti, and a years-long campaign I was in had whole tribes of lizardfolk. With that said, this isn't the first time I've tried painting up a good-sized unit of lizardfolk warriors for one of my games. The first time, I used Reptus - but, I'll be honest, the pinning and gluing on them was a ton of work, and while I love some of the sculpts, they're pretty big for lizardfolk. Then I tried the Van Horne lizardfolk, the metal ones from KS1, but... honestly, there just aren't enough of them. Two sculpts, a ranged and melee fighter, does not a raiding party make, which is a shame, because they're probably my favorite interpretation of lizardfolk. So, round three. This time, I really put in the research! I love how Julie Gunthrie does reptiles, and so I started looking at her offerings with Reaper. The Serpentfolk Evoker from Pathfinder is an old favorite, and poking around, I eventually found three more options by her - the Degenerate Serpentfolk, Serpentfolk Warrior, and Lizardman Shaman. So, with something adjacent a plan in mind, I bungled off to Reapercon last year to pick up my latest attempt at lizardy goodness - four each of the warriors, and three of the evoker, for 15 yuan-ti minis or 12 lizardfolk. Fortunately, figures-in-hand, I knew I had made the right choice. These minis are *very* close in size, and around the same as or slightly smaller than a large PC figure. They've got tails - a big plus, I'm sorry, both yuan-ti and lizardfolk deserve tails IMO - and generally look like they were sculpted to go together. I wish there were one or two more in this set - maybe an archer and another swordsman - but it's a good looking group! My goal is to paint them up in such a way that they can serve as either yuan-ti OR lizardmen without much issue, since I'd rather not have to paint two groups. Therefore, I'm going old-school - green skin with lots of browns and reds in the armor and on the clothing, red or yellow eyes, and so on. The one exception will be the Serpentfolk Evoker - I want to do two of him in green, but also make an albino cobra version of him so that I can use it as a commander. So far, they're cleaned and glued to bases. I've also got a new cell phone arriving today, so part of my goal is to get some better pics.... we'll see how it goes!
  2. Sacrificial Pond. Statue : 3D Print Design Lost Kingdom - Cuetzpal Statue Torso : 3D Print - Design Printed Obsession Skulls/Bonepiles: Greenstuffworld Wall: Milliput.. Water Effect : Vallejo Still Water Part of my Lost World Project WIP HERE: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/69308-lost-world-project-glitterwolf-paints-coldblooded-creatures-and-conquistadores/page/170/#comments To make sure the Sun will rise tomorrow, sacrifices need to be made.
  3. After painting a bunch of orcs I was pretty sick of green skin tones, so these Lizardmen Archers are blue. Also, why they got to be Lizard "men" Reaper? I'm not an expert in sexual dimorphism amongst lizards, but maybe one of these two lizardfolk is actually a female... All joking aside, I only painted 2 out of this 4 lizardfolk set, and was planning on painting the other two in about a year or so to track any improvements in my skill level.
  4. From the Bones 1 core set, a basic lizardman with typically primitive stone spear and turtle shell shield. This mini has good quality details, especially seeing as this is an early softish bones model. 77050 Lizardman Warrior Reaper Miniatures, Bones 1 KS 2012 Sculpted by Ben Siens Bonesium PVC. 30mm round lipped base available from reapermini.com
  5. This lizardman was once a test subject for a number of different paints. With no real way of knowing what was what I just visually picked out some paints and inks that looked like proper shadows and highlights and finished it off.
  6. One of my goals this year is to work through my pile of unpainted Bones from all the kickstarters. First up, a mini that was used as a test piece and then put back to gather dust for a few years. It was painted fairly quickly using glaze technique, which helped keep me from fussing over the details. One mini off the shelf of shame (or rather, out of the plastic box of shame).
  7. This Bones Lizardman with Spear was a gift from @Paradoxical Mouseduring a candy exchange where he and a few others guarded the candy. After an expirement in pink of which we shall never speak again, @malefactus gave me some advice and I went for a red with orange and yellow. The spear is still bendy, I don't mind the end of it, since that's a crooked branch, but the tip is a bit floppy as well. Anyway. Here is the latest warrior of my Lost World Project. WIP here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/69308-lost-world-project-glitterwolf-paints-coldblooded-creatures-and-conquistadores/&page=132
  8. Started this guy on World Wide Miniatures Day. I'm a super slow painter, so this is where I currently am. I am calling the shield done. So far I primed with Stynylrez green primer, and then dusted over that with white Stynylrez. I basecoated the shield with Walnut Brown. Then I layered Pumpkin Orange over the Walnut. Next I layered NMM Gold Base over the Pumpkin. I highlighted up to Fair Skin, and shaded down to a glaze of Walnut brown. I was shooting for an amber color, but I don't think I quite got there. In retrospect I would have done all the shadows and highlights before I put the patterns on the scutes because I ended up having to go back and clean them up multiple times during the shading and highlighting process. C&C welcome. I'm trying to improve.
  9. I painted this one as a fire salamander... cause honestly I’m sick of the other 12 I have and I needed to stop painting in green. Super happy with how he came out.
  10. Have had to rush some minis for our ongoing Dnd campaign, Hoard of the Dragon Queen. Am not the DM but paint the minis. All Reaper Bones that started with Army Painter ink washes in one colour over the whole thing. Then using Vallejo paints as base layers and finishing off with another ink wash to tie things together. The Drakes are "young fire dragons" with the wings cut off. With more time I would have sorted out the two stumps where each wing was. The Lizardman is standing in for a troglodyte and the Lilies are standing in for Violet Fungi. The cultists are just the Mythos / Cthulu cultists. There is a roper as well. Can really recommend lining Bones with ink as a liner which I know a lot of others recommend. The whole lot took 3 hours so it is a quick way of getting things onto the table.
  11. My latest project, complete. You can find the WIP thread here. I did an experiment, using ridges of dirt flocking to hold in water effects. It actually worked out reasonably well, though next time I'll know to build up the rest of the base more. I also decided this one was female, on the basis that she's noticeably larger than the other two. I'm rather happy with how the shield came out here. It looked a bit like a horseshoe crab to me, so I wanted to make it look nice and chitinous, as though she tore it from the back of some great swamp arthropod. My first freehand. It was supposed to be an anchor-shaped tattoo to start with, but I messed that up, and decided to just go with an abstract design. I cheated on the pupils for these guys. I bought a micron pen, and it worked out rather well. I probably would have gone with a solid color for the eyes, otherwise. This was the only one to have any sort of decoration on his integral base. The others are pure broccoli, but he's got a little plant on his. Gave it a nice pale green color to contrast with his scales. The color is actually a mystery paint Reaper sent me. I actually have two bottles of the stuff, from two orders from around the same time. I'll be sad when it runs out. It's a very nice color. And here we have his turtleshell shield. I actually looked up pictures of real turtles and cobbled together characteristics of several species for the color selection and pattern. And here's the whole happy family, together. Touching, really.
  12. Another inhabitant of my Lost World Project. This is a Lizardman Tyant from Reaper on a Microart Studio Base. WIP for those interested is here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/69308-army-of-the-lost-world-xherman1964-paints-coldblooded-creatures/
  13. I finished another recruit for my Lost World Project. This time the Bones Lizardman Warrior sculpted by Ben Siens. WIP is here for those interested: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/69308-army-of-the-lost-world-xherman1964-paints-coldblooded-creatures/ He is based on a Resin Jungle Base from Micro Art Studios. I'm less happy with him because of lack of detail in the face area. Big Bones are great and well detailed, some of the smaller can lack some detail. But he will do, He will be a grunt in the army so nothing special. I do like how the shield came out though. Without further ado... Here he is, hope you like the little coldblooded guy.
  14. Hi there all, so with the Ral Partha Chaos Wars Kickstarter in high gear, ten more days left, I've been painting some more of their figures, and I just finished this Greater troglodyte. I really like these figures as they seem so lizardlike in their poses, much more than a person with a lizard head and tail. Working on a few more with the same color scheme, but this is the first one I got done as he didn't have any armor, just his naked trog body and a sword. I also like their size scaled against other Partha figures. If I saw a troop of these rushing down upon me, I'd probably start running the other way. Hope you enjoy!
  15. Another Zen of Bones mini for me. I only removed the most annoying flash/mold lines. Zenithal primed and intended as another toy box level mini for my 3 year old. Tried some new techniques and was happy with the out come, so this will be going in my cabinet until my son is older. First try at thick water effects on the base, dripping blood, and dripping drool. I was happy with the dark eyes and the yellow skin...although I did panic a little when I realized he was wearing Green Bay Packers colors... C&C welcome. --Mike http://www.coolminiornot.com/394925
  16. Got a few miniatures in progress! Still struggling with taking decent photos, but my phone can only do so much I think. I may dig around in the settings to see if there's anything I can do to maybe improve the quality. These guys are being made for my Pathfinder group! Just have a few touchups left on them along with the bases to do. The orc is for the cleric, the lizardman is our druid, and the halfling paladin already had a mini for her character so I modified the Leprechaun and Owl mini to make her riding owl (added more fluff to the legs and removed the leprechaun)! I'm really happy with how the armor is coming out on the orc, and feel like I'm finally getting the hang of skin! The pictures don't do his armor justice. I'm also happy with how the lizardman came out in general, it was fun blending different colors for his scales. He has a bit of orange on his belly, throat, and thighs that unfortunately didn't really come out in these pictures.
  17. Greetings! Here is another Citadel vintage mini from my collection - "Reptile Warrior With Sword". I think this is one of the first figures I ever bought many decades ago & has recently received some love via a re-paint I've just been photographing some more old school minis today which I'm hoping to post soon.
  18. This got painted because I hate to waste paint. So I grabbed him as waste paint receptacle. Any excess paint from other minis got put on him, and all of a sudden I'm finishing him up. The iconic sorceress was also chosen to receive paint overflow but she's not done yet as I haven't painted enough other minis in colors that would look good on her. Questions, comments, critiques, welcome
  19. I recently completed some 10mm fantasy figures for my "Bear Yourselves Valiantly" armies; which included a Lizardman Hero, a Cursed Knight Leader, and a Fire Elemental. I had a leftover Lizardman figure (I believe he was made by A.I.M.) and thought that he bared a striking resemblance to a certain purple TV Dinosaur, so couldn't help but paint him up as the great Lizardman Hero, B'uar-Nee! Recently I painted three 28mm Barrow Wardens from Reaper's Bones line, and was really pleased with the results (Which you can see here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/62404-barrow-wardens-77346-thru-48-from-bones-ii/ ). So I thought I would experiment with a Warmaster Chaos Leader I had, to see if the rust effect I had used on the Barrow Wardens, would translate to 10mm. I'm very pleased with the results, and think I will now paint a unit of Chaos Knights I have as this sort of "Cursed Knight" look. lastly, I don't know who made this figure but I received it in a short-lived birthday figure exchange I was part of a few years ago, and since it was 15mm (I think) I never did anything with it. I came across it the other day; and not knowing what it was supposed to be, was struck by how the sculpted "fur" ? looked a lot like flames on it. So I decided to paint him up like a fire elemental. I think the result is pretty good.
  20. This guy was pretty fun to paint. I took a few cues from Schubert's version, but with a few stylistic changes... Mostly in that I can't paint like he does ;) The base was an adventure in new techniques for me as well, and documented in my thread down in the conversions presentation and terrain section. Questions, comments and criticism all welcome of course.
  21. Three Bowmen and a Bow Lizard These guys have been sitting around primed for years. They got grabbed up on Saturday the 31st for a quick speed paint to qualify for the Resolutionary Painting Challenge. This morning they were all white primer. Here are a pair of pictures: All of these archer models were included in the 5th edition boxed set for Warhammer Fantasy. I probably got these specific models on sale or with an wBay auction. I did not prime them—somebody beat me to it. The little guy is a Skink. The smallest type of lizard in the Lizardmen army. The three identical archers are one of two poses of Bretonnian archers that came with the set. If I had been clever I could have made a list of colors used. Comments and suggestions are in order.
  22. Couple of Lizardman from my latest batch of photos. These guys are pretty quick paints, not a lot of unnecessary details bogging the process down, just some great textured areas that allow for quick depth with little effort. C+C welcome as always.
  23. I think that'll do for a couple months, hopefully I didn't bombard everyone too hard with my stuff over the last week or so. I tried to space it out. Anyway, here's the remaining mini's from my last photo session... The flesh golem was a super fun paint. Also, ugh for the mold lines. I must stink at seeing these on bones. Never notice one or two 'til I get them posted... Eyebeast was a pretty straight forward job. This lizardman I did not batch paint with his brethren, as it was my first lizardman I've painted and wanted to just focus on figuring out a palette. And I'd like to say last but not least, but really I didn't do too much with the Owlbear, just a quick clean paint job. Didn't even really bother to stuff his cracks with green stuff. Thanks everyone for looking (at everything this week)!
  24. A Paint n Take mini I did at Rock Con last year He ended up representing my Pregen paladin for Pathfinder Society there.
  25. I originally ordered the worm and werewolf way before the Kickstarter. I was extremely impressed by the quality and the price. Strangely, the worm suffered from the tacky paint issue where the werewolf never did. I use the same paints and primers on everything. I have re-coated a few minis after reading a few suggestions here and found Testors Dulcote does work at coating the minis and removing the tackiness from finished models. I'll be busy painting for the next year..... EDIT: as suggested, these are the minis posted below (in order). 77006: Great Worm 77005: Ogre Chieftain 77009: Werewolf 77038: Hell Hound 89001: Pathfinder Red Dragon 77063: Duke Gerard 89003: Pathfinder Goblin Warrior 77050: Lizardman Warrior 77058: Almaran the Gold, Paladin 77143: Townsfolk: Undertaker 77158: Arrius, Skeletal Warrior
