So I just got a metric ton o' plastic. Tanks, CAVs, tons of scenery! So DAMN excited. But... There's a lot. Any of y'all with game experience want to enlighten me on what would be a fun few models to start with, so I could get a game going soon-ish? Like, would you build all four of a CAV (just in case you didn't back this one: you get four of each model in your order) or four different CAVs? When would you ever field four at a time? I'll probably build all four vehicles of each type because they'll build fast and look really cool. The CAVs will take more time to paint, so any advice on which ones I should build first to get a fun, casual game on would be most appreciated!

Just a quick post with a single pic - last week my friend and I had a tough time getting through 6,000 points, so we scaled it back a bit: 5,000, two squads each, no upgrades or specializations. We got a lot farther, but we still couldn't finish the battle in two hours (though it was getting to a sort of spillover point - kills were starting to pile up, CAVs had moved into their best firing positions, and so on). Anyhow, only managed to snap a single pic at the beginning of deployment, and it's not great, but: HILLS! I took some time off from working on my dissertation to build six hills out of pink insulation foam. They dried just in time to have a battle! The river, if you're curious, is from a company called "Wargamers Terrain." I have no idea why my friend put a bus in the ruins.

So definitely a work-in-progress, but getting very near the point of "I cannot look at this anymore without screaming," I present: CAV CITY! Details follow the pictures for any interested parties. DETAILS: This is a 4x2 section of game board. Full-size, my board is 6x4. I have enough road and buildings to cover the whole thing in a decently dense city section, especially if I throw in a tree-filled park, hill, or river. Buildings are blue electrical boxes spraypainted with "windows' painted on. Road is Styrene sheet painted with stone textured spray paint. Cars and buses: Ordered off Amazon - basically off-brand micro machines. Fun detail: only the buses are articulated enough to notice this, but these are UK-style "Drive on the left" vehicles! No idea how long this actually took to build as I work on it in my spare time, but I'll say that I started buying blue boxes in, I think, January. STILL TO DO: Road lines, a few more building details, and tidy up the edgework on the game board (you can still see wood in a few pics). STILL WANT: A bridge or two...that's about it. Otherwise, IMHO, it fits the bill for a futuristic / alien pre-fab city. An FTL ship jumps into system, dispatches a handful of dropships loaded up with snap-together plasteel and ferrocrete shelters, industrial rollers lay down pavement, and eager colonists are ready to begin their exciting new lives right up until they're declared collateral damage as a bunch of big, stompy robots smash them to pieces! Happy gaming!

Hey all - just posting here to start a conversation with my fellow fans of Big Stompy Robots - I got down last night and painted up some Malvernis CAVs. Because I have literally hundreds of models at this point, I'm speed painting, and setting aside a few models to serve as "heroes" or commanders, with which I will take more time and care. Even these, drybrushed as they are, need a little more blacklining and clean-up, but I'll probably do that Sunday. For now: the first of my Khardulis fanatics!

Go a bunch of minis painted up yesterday so I thought I'd share them. Here is my Malvernis Butcher for CAV SO. This is an all metal figure not BONES. It's a simple tabletop job as I plan to rule the galaxy with these.

I managed to further my malvernis force. They now comprise the majority of my finished CAV models. Here is the Assassin finished. I just forgot to add the facing lines on the base. Here's the pics...

Hi, Here is a quick shot of some CAV Halberd I reposed. I like the regular standing straight pose, but I wanted to vary it a bit in my force. So i made one walking with laser extended, and one with a more open stance like taken mid-pivot. The third one is just a minor facing adjustment of the weapons. I'm using the same paint scheme as my Ritterlich force as I will be integrating them into it (which now has to become Merc). And here is a shot of the fully painted Ritterlich + Halberd force (there is 1 outlier Halberd in Camo which was a test scheme... I'm just not sure if I should repaint it). And here is the opposite Malvernis force: I'm pretty much done with painting the EB reward from the CAV SO Kickstarter. There is only the Rach Dictators left to paint, but I haven't figured out a paint scheme yet. So I'm taking a break from Big Stompy Robots for now as I have some fantasy projects in mind... C&C welcome

So when do we get the other races in 28mm? Or, for that matter, some different poses...?
