Thanks to everyone who passed on swampy/marsh basing tips. Experimented with a few and got an effect I liked. My jungle Tatzlwyrm now has some suitably wet ground to lurk in.

Here's the first piece of bog terrain finished. I originally intended to use a 5-minute epoxy and acetone mix for the water, but I can no longer find really cheap and nasty epoxy — I used to be able to get 40ml syringes for just a couple of bucks, but now the cheapest ones I could find are closer to ten. So, instead I used polyester casting resin, which costs about thirty bucks for a 250ml can. There are down-sides to using the polyester: First, it stinks to high heaven while it's curing. Second, the disposable plastic cups I used for mixing are dissolved by it — I had to do a rapid transfer into another vessel before it ended up all over everything. Third, it's very, very clear, which would normally be a good thing, but for this purpose it could have done with being a bit more murky. I added some colouring, but not quite enough, so the water looks more lake-ish than boggy. Fourth, it's quite a bit thicker than water, so the meniscus is more pronounced, and it takes a bit of persuasion to flow into all the nooks and crannies. However, I was pretty much expecting that and I'm not heartbroken by it. The vehicle in the picture is my 3d-printed 1/100 scale Burford-Kegresse machine-gun carrier.

I don't usually use so much gloss varnish and not the most exciting array of colors, but I think I captured what a wet, stinky, dirty ol' swamp troll should look like.

hey all! hopefully am posting in right place. I'm after Bones minis that fit a swamp theme. I've done the Figure Finder, and got my first order in already (frogs, squogs and mushroom men). I'm designing an RPG encounter/adventure in a swamp to go on my swamp board. So in a way the RPG is going to fit the minis, which are going to fit the board, which is probably a bass ackwards way of doing it but it is fun :D These are some of the ones I've picked out so far for my March order: 03146: Frog Men (2) 02630: Frogmen 77273: Dragon Hatchling Black 03243: Swamp Shambler 02678: Swamp Hag 02496: Swamp Shambler 03694: Swamp Dragon Hatchling I'm just wondering if anyone has any others that would spring to mind, that would fit a good marsh or swamp theme? (Not all of the above are technically bones) So far I'm working with a kind of frog/squog village, a swamp hag encounter (who will be controlling the shamblers) and a couple of dragon babies, because why not. I'm thinking about doing a mushroom forest idea and putting the mushroom men in it too. Anyway, appreciate any other thoughts =D

This is the Bones figure 77267: Kallaguk, Troll King, who I keep thinking of as a marsh or swamp troll. He is a bit wobbly. His ankles are very thin and he tends to tip forward (as might be visible in a few photos). On a flat surface instead of a plinth he is straightened out by the spike on his club. I think he would have a difficult time balancing in any material except Bones. He was part of my year-end round up and Conga Line of finishing half-done figures. I was doing home remodeling and was self-exiled from my home and paint desk for over two months, so when I got access to my hobby room and paint desk and reorganized, I collected all my unfinished projects on the desk and realized my shelf of shame had grown to unacceptable proportions. I decided to tackle finishing as many of these pieces just to get them off my desk before I move on, even if I speed paint them or cut steps, but I am tired of looking at too many primed-only or part painted minis. So here is the first wave: Mashaaf which was my favorite to paint among these, the bones mummy lich I had nearly finished six months ago, which was nice except had too soft details on the face, the Scibor elven ruins, Mega Miniatures pack mules I base coated two years ago, and some GriffinTamer terrain pieces. These are not my best work by far but I'm going to call them done for now to get them off my desk and maybe some day I will go back and add some more finishing touches.
