Darklands: Metal Age by Mierce Miniatures (Live)

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mierceminiatures/darklands-metal-age/description Darklands: Metal Age is a fantastic Kickstarter project from Mierce Miniatures designed to re-tool our miniatures to get you playing Darklands cheaply - for it provides you with an Infantry Starter Host in metal that includes a commander, infantry unit and monstrous infantry unit for just £60 ($90), saving you over 70% from the equivalent in resin. That means you're getting our amazing rank and file infantry at around £2 ($3) each! An example of a metal Ax-Drune, resin Ax-Drune and undercoated metal Ax-Drune A scale comparison between an Ax-Drune and miniatures from other manufacturers Backing Darklands: Metal Age is a great opportunity to get into the dark fantasy world of Darklands for the first time (especially as the Darklands: First Edition rulebook is just around the corner), to expand your existing Darklands collection or maybe just to grab some fantastic miniatures to paint. We'll give you the option to purchase everything in resin, too, if you're more of a painter than a gamer! put off by the fragility of resin for gaming, or the price well if so (or if you just want to have bigger hosts) then this one may be for you (and you can always end up using your pledge on resin items from the webstore too)

    DSM7956 - Mouse Warrior

I have been painting this over in the Show-Off Forum for the past two weeks. Here is my Mouse Warrior completed. If you want to see how I got to this stage of the miniature, check out the Mouse Warrior WIP by clicking my name tab below the title. I can honestly say that this was a total delight to paint, So many options, and some real challenges in there. All that fur and really fine details added to my enjoyment. I especially enjoy the decision making process of what can I do with this. So here he is. You comments/Criticism is always solicited, and greatly appreciated. Let me know what you think please. Jay

    DSM7910 Frog Minstrel

Yeap, I painted another Frog. ROFL. A few words about the Frog Minstrel, Roll up your sleeves when you go to do this one. This is a really tough frog to work on. I had no idea what I was getting into when I started this. I thought it would be straight on... NOPE it isn't. The choices are phenominal. Little fiddley bits show up in the dangest, most difficult of places. At one point I found it Boring ! How can a frog be boring. So I resolved that thinking of our good friend Malefactus. So Here is the Frog Minstrel on a lily Pad, with his two Conger Eels playing a bagpipe, and a horn! Yes, I did intend to make you laugh ! I can't stop giggling. I kept hearing a certain song in my head as I was painting this. Your comments and critiques are appreciated, and sought after. Here they are performing: "I'd like to be under the sea In an octopus's garden in the shade He'd let us in, knows where we've been In his octopus's garden in the shade"

    DSM-7976 Guinea Pig Wizard

For those that were following along with me in WIP as I painted and based this Mini, Thank You. I had forgotten how much fun it is to explain what it is, and why you are doing something. I set a goal to base the mini on a bark base (which is a LOT of fun to do). I was also doing a lot of experimenting. The Crystal, and using my color wheel to get Contrast, and also to use Triads, for colors. The challenge has been a delight for me. Hope you got an idea how I approach a mini when I am painting it, and basing it. Thank you for your comments and suggestions as I went along. Your C/C are always welcome and sought after ! Leave me a comment please. Here is the completed Guinea Pig Wizard. Here is the link to the Work In Progress Thread: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/68089-guinea-pig-wizard-dsm7976/ Jay

    Guinea Pig Wizard - DSM7976

I've decided to do another WIP after not doing so for quite some time. My son gave me this mini and my friends want to see it painted, and based. I have gotten into basing thanks to many on the Forums, and so that is part of what I am up to. I'm planning on using bark in the basing on this right off the git go. Secondly, I started clipping off the broccoli base that DSM come with. I've had to modify some of my methods, and a bit of how I do things. I still mix my own colors, I use brush on primer (gray), and now I take my time, and really water down the colors. I just get richer and better results (in my opinion). I was given a marvelous gift that I am going to share right from the beginning. It is a plastic vise, with a suction cup bottom. Now that I pin the base I need something to hold it. For me this is perfect. I can hold in my hand, I can suction cup it to the desk and file, and or prime, and line if I desire. It makes me remember to remove that broccoli. So here is what I am working on now. Firsts photo is of the critter on the vise, then raw, then primed with brown liner. I love this thing already ! Jay
  6. USPS tracking has been a bit uneven for me this time around, but it lists a delivery time of today and has been in the correct town since 4:30am, so I'm going to call it good. It was marked as delivered while I was typing this. If however you go by SGHawkins09 and haven't picked up your mail today, stop reading and savor the anticipation for a bit.
  7. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1835446295/global-defence-forces-15mm-sci-fi-tabletop-miniatu 4 Welcome citizen! The world government has fallen! It falls to us to raise an army to protect and fight for our peace, democracy and freedom! Enlist and support the Global Defence Forces. Join today! At Slap Miniatures we're seeking the funds to hand craft a new range of 15mm (1/100) scale figures, with the retail copies cast as whole finished pieces in high quality pewter. There are two sets of figures on offer, both containing one piece pewter castings of 30 individually posed figures. So with your help in bringing this kickstarter to life there will be 60 uniquely posed figures to choose from. I feel this is important, making every soldier in your table top army look and feel like an individual. The most common soldier in all armies is the humble rifleman, so I've created 30 individually posed riflemen. Furthermore there will also be 30 individually posed 'specialists' to bolster the rifleman. Amongst the specialists there will be 6 different types of soldier armed with differing weaponry. 5 Rocket troopers, 5 Communication troopers, 5 grenadiers, 5 assault troopers, 5 snipers and 5 machine gunners. I've already made 1 of each of the 6 different types of specialists so you can see what they look like, with the rest to be made during the course of the kickstarter. There's also rucksacks available too! Who doesn't like those? Suitable for many 15mm figures I'd just like to explain why I've set the delivery date to July; March: Running the Kickstarter (and attempting to finish specialist figures before the kickstarter is over). April: Will have definitely finished the specialist figures. May: Figures sent off for casting and production. June: Packaging and posting of everyone's pledges. July: A spare month, just in case the moulds don't turn out correctly, figures need remastering or the casters are a little late. As for the Generals pledge, should anyone take one of the three on offer I shouldn't have any difficulty in finishing them when the time comes to ship everyone's pledges. You can probably tell there is a fair bit of leeway for me to finish sending out everyone's rewards. I'd expect to get everything sent out before July. However with the last kickstarter running late I do not wish to dissapoint anyone, including myself

    03577 - Asiago Jones

I was given this mini as a gift prior to my working on the 54 mm Norsk Lord. This mini is 3/4's of an inch in height. I don't think I have ever attempted to paint something so small. The delight and joy of doing it far eclipsed it's size. Such a delightful and whimsical little creature. I'm calling it Asiago Jones and the Temple of Cheese ! He has just rescued the infant mousling, and angered the gods of the temple, and the ground is cracking up around him, and the lava is beginning to break out ! Here is Asiago Jones and the Temple of cheese. Your comments would be most appreciated.

    Krass Omenthrall - Reaper

This is one of Sandra. Garrity's impressive and dynamic sculpts. I really enjoyed trying to show off the dynamic movement, drawing attention to the fine carving, and elements she incorporated into this miniature. Was a lot of fun to paint. I really got into blending and highlighting the figure. When it came to the base, I chose snow to really bring up the contrast, and draw attention to the figure. As always; Your C/C are very welcome and solicited. Leave me a comment please, Its great to get feedback. So here is Krass Omenthrall, as I see him. Jay

    Elia Morningsong. - SHD15

I wasn't expecting this to be as challenging as it became. The changing weather had a lot to do with the capability of my hands to do what I wanted. I spent a lot of time painting this piece, and also working out how I was going to present it. Its tons of fun to do, and once you get it done, then you have to figure out how to base it !! Therein lies the rub. so here is my interpretation of Elia Morningsong and her pet fox. "Elia descended into the meadow as she went to visit the land of humankind once more". In the meadow she touched the shrubs, the plants, the earth, and the trees. Wherever she caressed the plants, the earth burst into bloom, and she brought the joy of spring to the Earth. Here is Elia Morningsong, Bringer of joy, and Spring to the Earth. i didn't like the distance on the photos, so I took some close ups so you can see the mini better. This should give you a better feel of what it looks like. Your comments are appreciated !
  11. Really like this mini and when I had primed it I thought to myself hmmm I wonder if that leather armor will work painted as metal so I gave it a shot and I think it came out quite well. So here is Arathanel painted as a drow in metal armor. Please C&c ;)

    Bloodknuckle Grymm - SHD17

This is the first Stone Haven Miniature I have painted. It was a blast to do. I had a lot of fun playing up the comical part of the miniature. Its just a fun sculpt to paint. Small, but lots of character. Just the smile with the little teeth, and then ability to put some character in the piece made my day. Hope you appreciate the Dwarf Berserker.! Let me know what you think !

    03160 - Krass Omenthrall

I was looking at this mini, and I see a lot of potential for growth (besides it being so danged dynamic). I have primed and lined him, and I have applied a base coat of "Blue Gunmetal" to the armor. I am thinking purple, gold highlights, blues, and blood red shadows, and tints. I'm being ambitious on this one. I'm paying it back for the amount of blood it drew from me while filing and assembling it ! This is one "sharp" (Literally) miniature ! So, put on your seat belt, tip the nice ticket taker in the scanty outfit, and off we go. Here is where he begins.

    03123 - Townsfolk VIII - Mob

Here is a quick WIP for two of the members of the village mob, the third was added to the EU/UK box of goodwill earlier in the year. The models were cleaned up and based with some additional sand/ grit around the outside. The models were then given a coat of Brush On Primer. A coat of tanned skin was then given to all exposed flesh and the metal items were give a base coat of black. I then proceeded to put the eyes in place and attempted to use some colour, the pictures may not be that clear but they have blue eyes. Finally a coat of flesh wash was done prior to any highlights. The plan is to see how far I can get these before the new year, as I have two young children I intend to have a quiet night in painting. These could either be the first models of the new year or the last ones of 2015. As always comments welcome.

    SV-02 - Norse Lord

"The new Jarl sat on his fathers chair. Three months ago; it had been feasting, drinking, wenching, battles to partake in, the clash of weapons and war. Now since the old Jarls passing it was endless council meetings, diplomacy, and boredom. Oh to be guilty, and alive once more !!!" This is an Andrea 54 mm metal miniature. I was given this as a gift, and the moment I held it in my hands I went nuts with anticipation. I have been working on this for 23 days. The detail is incredible, the whole sculpt is a wonderful challenge. I have adored every moment working on this. While I still maintain my preference for 25 mm pieces, I won't shy away from another 54 mm piece. Amazing what it feels like to have space for creativity. As always; your C/C are welcomed, and sought after. Leave me some feedback; please. Here is my interpretation of the Norse Lord. Norse Lord

I have been cleaning and filing this Miniature since Sunday morning. This was a gift from my best friend for co-celebrating his wedding. Knocked me out of the park when I opened it. While they are away on their Honeymoon, I have the pleasure of putting this incredible sculpt together. Mold lines on base have been driving me up the wall. So I now have gotten my first 54 mm challenge. Quite an interesting piece of work. I took some photos as I have started his assembly. Feels good to have a WIP again. Here is what I am working with, oh.. small bag still holds helmet, arms and head. The helmet (much to my relief) does NOT have horns. That does a Nordmans heart good. Jay.

    Diabolist, #60130

  18. So, I am sitting here dry brushing the terrain pieces from DDS2, and the cd changer is playing Deep Purple 'Black Knight'. The 'House of Hair' with Dee Snyder just ended 30 minutes ago, and the radio was playing [redacted] so the CD player is loaded and on shuffle.... I listen mainly to metal music, doesn't mater if it's from the '60s or came out today, as long as it rocks! As my formative music years were the '80s, it is really no surprise. Good seats at a concert were $20, and nose bleeds were $10.... Try finding parking at a concert for that today! Some favorite bands, in no particular order: Deep Purple, Dio, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Twisted Sister, Michael Schenker, Yngvie Malmstein, Jimmy Hendrix, Skid Row, AC DC, Jethro Tull, (They did beat Metallica for a grammy.... ), Ufo, Scorpions, Rush, Yes, Triumph.... I also like some Classical Music, Strauss, Beethoven, Mozart, Copland, Holst, Wagner, being some favored composers.... Almost anything with a Sci-fi or fantasy theme and or lyrics will get at least a listen... So what is on your I-Pod, in your CD player, or in your vinyl collection? Or do you paint in SILENCE????? Kaia Stormwitch

I was given this mini as a gift, and decided it was something I hadn't a clue about painting. I've never seen this style before and I am totally unfamiliar with any story line about it. So, I decided to just paint her as I would imagine her to appear. I had a very ambitious base planned, but there is no way I will get it accomplished in the next three weeks, so I went with a bloodied slate walkway. Calling the troops to continue smashing the enemy. Here is my interpretation of Kaia Stormwitch ! Oh, it is marked CW1980. I was not able to take a standard face on photo, due to the flat casting that this piece is in, and all you see with a face on photo is "an Elbow".. Sawwy! Click on the photos; they do enlarge. edited to add ... Two more photos taken on a lower plane to show details. C and C are always welcomed and appreciated ! Jay

    14106: Dark Maiden

I've always been a fan of the Dark Maiden sculpts and started painting the standard Warlord version last month. The idea that I had for her was a bit more lively than the version DKS has up on the store page. Rather than being all ghostly I had a more lively animating spirit in mind. I painted her upper body in a fairly normal manner and then blended her dress down into wood. She's still animated though, so her skin is not actually painted with normal "skintones." Instead it is painted using the same paints that I used for the normal wood, just mixed together a bit differently. Speaking of wood, there is quite a lot of it to paint. If you ever want to get some practice in this is a good choice. I also wanted to try out a sea base. I have had very little experience using water effects and gave them a go. After an initial layer of Realistic Water to cover the paint I added some water effects. They didn't look too bad so I added on another layer to give the water even more depth. That actually worked ok, at which point I decided to attempt sea foam. I'm not as much of a fan as to how the sea foam is looking. The water effects seem like they can be cut away and redone, but just in case that messes everything up even more I've gone ahead and taken some show-off pics. If the operation is a success (and I remember) I'll update this thread next week. But just in case I don't, ignore the white and you can imagine what the sea looked like in a time before foam. Can you tell I'm posting while half asleep? Here's the post-op pic. Most of the foam is now gone and the cut away areas can be repaired easily enough. I didn't cut right up against the mini since I didn't want to scrape away any paint.

    TBM-3021 - Black Knight

This is a 25mm mini (that's one inch tall)...I always forget to say that when I do one of Tom's mini's. This is SMALL..Very Small..LOL. I love the darn things for some reason. Tom is a fantastic sculptor, and I adore anything that he sculpts. Just realize it WILL be a challenge. I approached the Black Knight on foot (I have another mounted) with a lot of trepidation. Its complex. The shield if 1/4 by 1/4 of an inch, and that lion took a small brush, and absolute breathing control to do. So.. Here is my interpretation of the Black Knight. Your comments, and critique are greatly appreciated. Its the only feedback I get now since I no longer do the WIPs. Here is the Black Knight.

    Shensen - 60069

Yes this is a Reaper Miniature by B. Rudolfi. I find it hysterical that I have painted another female in "Combat Attire"... I've been quietly working on her since I finished the last one. Again, I insist on working on these small mini's. So here is my interpretation of Shensen, I didn't bother looking at what other folks have done Hope you like what I have done !. Oh.. I forgot to mention, She is ONE INCH tall ! I really should post a photo of these next to a quarter ! Your comments/Criticism's are welcome, and always appreciated. So here is Shensen: .

    Oathsworn badger

This is the first of the Oathsworn critters that I completed. (there are still two more waited on finishing) but the first was the badger. Apparently all of the badgers want to keep their baby blankets as battle trophies but I really love how the mint green cape came out. I also just love this mini. all sorts of little things on the armor and equipment: the damage and scars on the armor, the nicks and bangs on the club, and just the general texture of the critter. And the pose. I love the pose! Mike has done an absolutely incredible job capturing motion and action in all of his critters. these are bright to the point where the few non action poses actually seem to be relaxed. The same cannot be said for my state as I try to pry this mini off his base. The metal this mini was cast in was hard! I was eventually reduced to tin snips and a dremel tool to grind and tear the base off because I wanted to put him on a specific base. Which involved a new titanium drill bit to pin the little guy. He did lose a few toes in the process which had to be rebuilt but other than that I really like how he came out and I love the minis (and will probably add another one of these to my current KS order just because) Anyway, without further ado, here is the pictures. C&C is particularly appreciated here as I am still working with the fur to make it look realistic without defeating the work that Mike did on the fur sculpt. Enjoy!

    Cersei Lannister - DSM5005

I've been working on Cersei for over two weeks. I decided to kick up my basing skills a notch, and so I selected this Tom Meirer Sculpt, and decided to give her a fitting base, and hone the painting skills a bit further. She is 25mm (one inch tall), and an incredible piece of art. I avoided the base she came with and dreamed up my own, and made it from scratch. I pulled out a couple of old skills, and built a balcony for her. I have totally enjoyed painting and basing her. As always your comments and criticism are welcome, and desired. Let me know what you think of Cersei Lannister. Jay
