  1. Hey guys, I saw a couple of people online converting bird houses from Michael's into dice towers and after having great luck converting one of their cheap model ships into a spelljammer ship, I decided to give it a go. I took the bird house apart and stuck in all of the tower guts. Then I gave it a base paint job. I am thinking of painting some moss or vines onto the tower and also adding a crest of some sort on the front. I thought about adding a flag to the top, but I want to build this to withstand frequent transport as I play at a friend's house. I'd love to have some suggestions to spice it up. I want to use it as a display piece at home but then be able to take it to the table for play.
  2. My wife started working on a castle birdhouse (from Michael's I believe) while I was working on my exchange diorama. She's been doing tole painting for a long time and really enjoys doing birdhouses, which is why there are a dozen or two around the house and property. After painting it she said she wanted to do some more to it, and asked about gargoyles. I didn't have any that small, but after discussing, she built a drawbridge for it. Then I remembered the Wild Elves starter for Mighty Armies that I'd picked up for her years ago. It's 15mm. So I dug that out, and this is what she ended up with, which she gave to me the other day when we were celebrating the 10th anniversary of our first date. I think she mostly just wanted to get a birdhouse into my study...
  3. So, preparing for both the KS Bones and my L2PKs, I'm scouting out supplies that people have been listing in different topics. One of the first things that was pretty easy to find was Testors Dullcote, which many people seem to swear by I was also thinking of picking up a spry on Primer, and the gloss finish (for better protection). Thing is, someone mentioned using Krylon's Crystal Clear, but I cant actually find that on the Michaels website. I did find a lot of -similar- things, that MIGHT work, so I thought I would turn to the greatest resource I have access to, you, the community. Faced with the following, which (if any?) would you suggest? Or should I hunt around more, try and find the 'regular' Crystal Clear? Krylon® UV Resistant Clear Coating Krylon® Lacquer Spray Krylon® Clear Polyurethane Krylon® Triple Thick Crystal Clear Glaze I'm sure at least 2 of those are completely off topic (middle two), but I thought I'd list them just in case. At first I thought that last one would be the route to go, but reading its description, sounds like it might be TOO thick, especially if I plan to throw some dullcote on after. Also, if anyone has had experience with their primer: Krylon® Indoor Outdoor Primer Is that something that would be suitable for Miniature painting? Any help on this topic would be much appreciated! Edit: Hmm... Just realized all of those links are on the American site... the Canadian site shows no results for Krylon, Testor, or pretty much anything else of use... This could prove to be an issue, and this is the second time now that I've found a bunch of craft supplies I could not order. Still, I'll check in to my local Michaels regardless, in case its just the website that sucks. And even if I cannot buy these products here, I'm sure the answer will be useful to someone!
