Every year I do this I say it'll be my last. Well, I'm doing it again. Haven't thought of a good title for this one yet. Currently working on a list of minis and a list of what I need to do so I don't forget and skip any prep. Might paint a couple things to get back into the swing of things since I haven't painted in about a month. Calendar and pics of choices coming soon.

Soooo... I'm doing this again this year. I thought I'd have my October stuff up and ready to go by October but Life happened. This led me to the decision to do this again this year. I've adjusted the rules for this year. They may or may not be different to last years, I can't find the post that lists them from then. I have picked minis but have too many on the list so I need to cull it down and then write out my calendar. Rules: Paint 30 (or more) unique minis. This means you can paint a bunch of one sculpt but it only counts as 1 mini towards the count. Example: I painted over 70 minis last year but because of the number of sculpts that I did it only came out to 30 discreet minis. You do not have to paint one a day but one for each day. Prep beforehand is totally permitted (washing, mold line removal, priming, etc.) Any paint other than liner (any color) for Bones is not permitted. ETA: This is starting in November.
-
I finally got photos uploaded to the blog. Here's the link to them so I don't have a super picture heavy post. ETA: Most of the minis are from the Bones 3 KS. Minivember 2017 Here's a sneak peek:

It's almost that time of year again! And by that I mean it's almost November. I started this last year in place of doing NaNoWriMo. Instead of writing a novel I paint a mini a day. I have tweaked the rules slightly from last year since I wasn't able to complete it the way I wanted to because life. So here are the revised rules and my calendar. I'm going to try to do this one mini each day but if that fails as long as I have 30 minis at the end of the month I'll consider it a success. Rules: Must paint at least 30 minis (1 for each day) 1 sculpt = 1 mini Prep beforehand is encouraged. No brush restrictions Calendar: I only do this for my sanity and to keep me on track and motivated. This year all but 2 of the minis are from Bones 3. There probably won't be much updating to this until November actually starts or is very near to it. I think that's it for now. Thanks for looking!

I decided to participate in order to try to make some headway on my vast collection of unpainted neglected minis. My sister was visiting so although I painted, I have not been on the computer until today. I got out a bunch of figures that I thought that I could finish. I started with some simple ones since I had company and so far am pretty much on schedule with 18 completed. I have torture chamber accessories, 12 goblins, and the goblin drummer and drum carrier from Bones 3. Still on deck: Thanks to my sickly dogs and my husbands use of electrolytes for his races, I have an unending supply of holders. What it really serves to do is make me go in and put paint on figures when I see so many ready. Behind those, I have a bunch of "shelf of shame" figures that are destined for the Thanksgiving Weekend Challenge. I am so hoping to get many figures off the table this month. And get better pictures going forward.

Ok I decided to give this a go, with no expectations of actually succeeding. Also, rather than spam @SparrowMarie thread I thought I start my own. Day 1 and Day 2 were me painting up 2 of 5 Bones Ghast in an attempt at using the shaded basecoat method. Each took about 2-3 hours and I didn't clean up one much. I then decided that they need a better base so I threw the 5 on a base and added some sand and stone to the existing base. I then decided that I wont include painting the base in my modification to the challenge. Day 1 and Day 2: Day 3: Today I didn't get much time. And tommorrow I will not get any time. So I started some of the Massive Darkness chest's. I also finished sealing up 8 more chests that I finished up last month and 4 of the last 8 Zcide NPC's I need to finish. Here is all I got done. Thanks for following along in this attempt to force me to paint fast and free.

Just a quick hour-long paint, almost exclusively drybrushed, and the ground is just drybrushed with three green colors I grabbed at random. But it's painted, which is 100% progress since I finished Mashaaf. Pardon the horrible pics; I couldn't find my nice background pages. Sir Forscale, to show how little this guy is. :) Colors used (in order): Brown Liner (base coat) Powderburn Brown (fur) Shadowed Stone (fur) Concrete Grey (fur) Misty Grey (fur) Solid Black (eyes, ears, mouth, nose) Solid White (shine dots) Jungle Moss (ground) Jungle Camo (ground) Pale Lichen (ground) EDIT: This is the figure I painted for Day 1 of my "paint one mini per day all of November" challenge. This lovely lady was a lot more fun to paint than I'd expected, and I let myself slow down a bit and really experiment with improving my shading and highlighting. I'm super happy with how her dress and apron turned out! Her face...not so much. I'll explain why below the pictures. Oh, and when I was trying to figure out what color to make her hair, even though I think brown would have looked better, I decided I couldn't resist making her a redhead. Yay pictures! I'd put the basecoat on her skin and was about to start highlighting when my right eyelid starting twitching pretty badly. It would go for awhile, then stop, then go for a bit, then stop again, etc. It seriously messed with my ability to focus on close-up work, so I decided to just make a stab at her mouth and leave the rest alone. I'm not super happy with how it turned out, but at least I didn't end up with a Joker-faced bar maid in the end (she was looking kinda scary for awhile, lol). I also didn't get a chance to reduce the lining around her eyes; it's pretty heavy right now. Once I get back to my painting desk on Sunday, I'll tidy it up, highlight her skin, and fix a few little fiddly bits (such as the rag in her pocket that I totally forgot about, and adding shine dots to her eyes). I'm actually really wishing I'd taken the time to remove the mold lines from her; I didn't originally expect her to be more than a 1-2 hour quick paint job. Lesson learned! Colors used (in order from shade to highlight): Dress and hairband: Gothic Crimson Spattered Crimson Big Top Red Apron and shirt: Ginger Cookie 1:1 Ginger Cookie:Linen White Linen White Vest and headband: Frontier Blue Soft Blue Templar Blue Hair: Auburn Shadow Carrot Top Red Highlight Orange Eyes: Brown Liner Linen White Skin: Rosy Shadow Lips: Big Top Red Gothic Crimson (between the lips) Mugs: Driftwood Brown (drink) Linen White (drink) Aged Pewter (mugs) Ground: Brown Liner Driftwood Brown Group picture! Naptime's over! Lady McGee is kind enough to bring over the beeeeeeeeest hot chocolate in the land! (you probably thought I was going to say beer, didn't you? ) Hot chocolate with whipped cream on top is one of my favorite winter treats! Peter spider isn't interested, though. For Minivember I will try to do a different model each day (duplicates or similar models (from the same unit or suchlike still only count as one!). If you want to see the rest of my minivember minis, feel free to have a look at my painting blog..I won't be posting each and every one here, just the Reaper minis and maybe some that I find especially interesting. Yes, they will be speedpaints, just like all my minis. This model has been sitting around unpainted on my desk for ages and ages, getting in the way and generally making a nuisance of itself. Time to wash it out of my hair, as it were. The internet seems full of slams of this mini, both the aesthetics and the quality of the casting. For my part, I cannot for the life of me see what is wrong with it. Aesthetics aside (I like the bulky, powerful and slightly cartoony dragon this represents), I found the casting itself to be perfectly good. I had to do very little to fit the pieces together and there was just soem few mould lines that needed carving off. Granted the base was slightly warped, but that was easily fixed with some hot water. As board game dragons go, this is the best I have seen yet. One quick and dirty paint job, and we are ready to go! Inspirational music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jm932Sqwf5E I play some DOOM every once in a while, and every time I do I think of Sedition Wars (because, let's face it, the inspiration is apparent.) Making up my mind to do something about it, I set out to try and make a speed paint version of the Doom Slayer colour scheme. This was the result: Starting on a black undercoat, a two-tone brown/leather brown base coat. Olive heavy drybrush, then lighter yellow olive drybrush. Desert tan gun casing and a mix of yellow olive and desert tan for helmet and details. Some black and yellow for bits. Angels dark green on the visor, and just a few line highlights here and there. Base drybrushed boltgun metal, washed with strong tone quickshade ink and some blobs of red quickshade ink. Solid black rim. Done. Since the Sedition Wars kickstarter rewards turned out so dissappointing for many backers, the game and its minis have been consigned to oblivion it seems. McVey Studios apparently have dropped the line entirely, to concentrate on making minis for others. (as in The Others: 7 sins game and such like). For my part, after getting over the surprise of "premium plastic minis" turning out to be restic, I found the Sedition Wars mins to be quite nice actually. After growing familiar with the material, I find I do not agree with all the internet hate directed towards restic. It is good for it's use. The Sedition Wars minis also prove that the material can make really good minis. At any rate, after spending a lot of time prepping all that restic, they have been consigned to the drawers of doom with heaps of other KS minis like Dreadball, Deadzone and Mars Attacks!. I originally thought I would like to do the Vanguard Troopers like Stormtroopers, all in white and black. Since white and black are inherently hard to do, at least quickly, I put them off and off and after a while moved on to other things. Until now. Also, I think these will do nicely for Enforcers for Deadzone and Warpath. Vanguard Trooper from the Sedition Wars: Battle for Alabaster game set. (if you can get hold of a copy, do so! Great minis even though the game itself was a bit ...untested.) McVey Studios Restic 25mm base

I posted all of my photos over on my blog because I couldn't figure out a way to post all of them here without it being a photo overload. They aren't in any particular order since I couldn't remember which order I painted them in since I had to play catch up. After I took photos and adjusted the white balance on them I realized I have a lot of places that need touching up. So I'm going to make that a goal of this month along with the few others I have. https://sparrowmarieminis.wordpress.com/2016/12/03/minivember-photos/

SparrowMarie posted a week or two ago how she plans to paint at least one figure every day of November, and I thought that sounded like an awesome idea! I may have to play a little catch-up because of Thanksgiving, and because I will be out of town the 4th-6th without access to painting stuffs, but I will do my best. This thread will act as an index of my Show-off threads (since Reaper has requested that separate Show-off threads be made for each figure unless it's a themed group). I may not make my goal, but at the very least, I aim to paint 20 figures this month. :) And that's actual 20, not goblin 20. Huzzah! --OneBoot :D

Continuing on with the Circle of Chaos warband off kickstarter: Chirrik seems to be some sort of mutated Skaven or rat-beastman. This mini is truly chaotic and ...busy, and was most difficult to read, as it were. With its miniature arms, the eyestalks, tailweapon and flapping cloak-things all over the place. The busy-ness quieted a bit down as I painted it, each bit gaining definition and appearing before my eyes. (And that odd strip of fur turned out to be a pocket-watch!) Yes, they will be speedpaints, just like all my minis. Seeing as I am starting out a week late, I have some catching up to do... Next up is the orange translucent Bones Burning Sphere. Not all that much to say about this one. The trick to paint translucent bones is to undercoat them with matt varnish so the plastic will accept paints and inks. I use Army Painter Anti-Shine spray for this. I have heard that several brands of spray paint might cause some sort of reaction in the plastic, making them tacky or even flaking off. I personally have not experienced this, but I have experienced my usual miniatures paint (citadel, army painter, vallejo, reaper, etc) being rejected by the bare plastic. I find that the Army Painter sprays work well on Bones in general. Apart from that I use Vallejo Acrylic Surface Primers -black and light grey- in my airbrush to undercoat most minis incluiding Bones. Works a charm. I make sure to wash said minis first in warm dishwash detergent-soapy water and an old tootbrush first to get rid of any remaining release compound from the casting process, and make sure thay are dry before priming. 77081: Burning Sphere Reaper Bones KS1 Orange Translucent Bonesium PVC 30mm base

So it's Minivember. The month where one tries to paint one different model each day. As is typical, I am rather late to the party, having been busy with work the whole of the first week. So I will try to do a different model each day (or rather, the equivalent: 30 different minis this month) the important bit being "different" so duplicates do not count for the Minivember tally. And when I say duplicates I also mean similar minis (e.g. of the same type, or from the same unit). So doing say, 30 Clanrats will still only count as one. So these will be semi-randomly selected minis, and we start out with a baby dragon: Reaper makes many great dragons, and for the most part, the Bones material works well (as in "well, they will need some support or else they will sag over time due to the weight of the massive dragon on the comparatively spindly legs."), but on these smaller dragons the material shows it's limits when it comes to the finer details. The supposedly clawed hands were mostly blobs I needed to carve out, the supposedly fanged mouth was mostly solid gums with lines in them, and the eyes.... The eyes needed to be painted on. This might have been a miscast, but I imagine it is not. Many Bones tend towards softness in the fine details. But then again, it's Bones. The whole point of which is to make the minis cheap and easy to deal with. Which they admittedly are. This is not a £10 model! Yay! 77274: Dragon Hatchling Red Reaper Bones KS2 Bonesium PVC 40mm base Minivember tally: 1

WIP here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/71625-oneboot-attempts-minivember-painting-a-mini-every-day-in-november/?p=1466407 I based my paint job of this little guy off of the peacock jumping spider (spoilered because spider): I'm very happy with how he turned out, even though it took me three times longer to paint him than I'd planned; painting freehand on a textured, curved surface is hard! You can see the orange strip here, though my camera is making it look more red than it actually is. Group shot! Peter spider wants to party too! Sir Forscale and Ruff the wolf don't seem real keen on this idea, though. This is the figure I painted for Day 5 of my "paint one mini per day all of November" challenge. Today I went to Crate and Barrel! Er...I mean crates and barrels. I already had all the paints out for my table and benches, so I decided to paint up the two Bones crates and two Bones barrels I had to match, since I've decided I rather like how the table and benches turned out. Picture! Another Picture! I channeled Bob Ross while I was painting the small crate: "This little guy's leaning a bit. He's tired, he's had a hard life. So I'll give him a friend, right there. Everybody needs a friend. :)" Group photo! Which includes a currently WIP Sir Forscale, who is not fully convinced that the height of this stack of goods is within safety standards. The wolf took advantage of the distraction and happily removed the rest of the food from the table. Colors used (in order): Brown Liner (primer) Mahogany Brown (wood) Chestnut Brown (wood) Oiled Leather (wood) Leather Brown (wood) Polished Leather (cork) (P3) Pig Iron (metal bands) These are the figures I painted for Days 3-4 of my "paint one mini per day all of November" challenge.
