  1. She's pretty scantily clad, but not backing down from a fight. Another model from KDM.
  2. So I wanted to do @haldir idea on some bases, but I got impatient. I also have a boat load of these Base Boss 2 bases. I'm a bit bummed with them though they don't perfectly fit and I have to fill them in a bit I also don't like the cleanup needed. However, they do make a slight save on overall time when I'm basing. Slightly. What do you think?
  3. These models are amazing in detail. Sure they take a bit to assemble, but they're worth it. Tried to keep this within the green family of colors. I admit I had a bit of fatigue near the end when painting. So a couple of details got missed...
  4. Hello All, Here are photos of a 44007 Bones Black "Brother Hammond, Traveling Monk" I completed recently. Thank you for looking.
  5. Hello All, Here are photos of a 03205 Dark Heaven Legends "Friar Stone, Traveling Monk" I completed last week. He has been having a bit too much of what is in his potion bottle and his cask. Thank you for looking.
  6. Another one from my monk stash. Not to be confused with a mustache. Although with Movember around the corner, perhaps something around Monkvember could be a thing for painting? I digress. It's clear i got some inspiration from Dr. Faust's model he painted (thank you! ) Always love the feedback.
  7. He's officially called a "priest," but I got more of a monk vibe from him. Not a flashy paint job, but it works for a monk. The pages in the book are decoupage (basically, printed bits covered in layers of thinned-out pva glue). Then, I gave it a slight wash to age the pages a bit.
  8. Got two finished for a friend's kid who plays D&D. He mentioned it in passing and i said, "do you know what characters they play as?" He tells me a half elf monk and an elf Ranger. I said, hold my beer. I dug into my treasure trove (aka hoard) and dug them out to paint. I'm sure his kids will love them.
  9. So I got his base done with 2 kinds of sand, some tufts and a blend of turfs and static grasses... WIP here... Here he is! Thanks for looking! The Drow
  10. Painting this guy up for ex's husband for their new campaign... Again, nothing much yet, but gotta keep track of colors.... He's been sitting on the shelf of shame for a while, and the skin was done with GW Tanned flash, but I am going over that with SC 75 Arabic Shadow.. eyes had been done at some point, so exact colors unknown... check back another time to see progress.... G
  11. My first, and hopefully not only, mini completed in 2022! Gabby, here, is a perfect sculpt for one of my favorite NPCs. I absolutely love Christine’s absurdly characterful, nicely detailed sculpts. Hyacinth “Cindy” Dabblethwaite is the middle child of the halfling family behind Dabblethwaite’s Fine Teas, and the champion of the underground bare knuckle fight ring her otherwise very proper family runs in the cellars of their tea house.
  12. Got another one to submit, but still needs its base. Mr. Monk here was a pretty fast shot. I tried to keep colors as simple as possible (which may or may not have been left over colors from my owl bear I did) to just keep the paint moving. BATTLE REPORT! Wins: * Used a flat flesh color with the simple Reikland Flesh shade wash. Combo worked well, but dude looks a little...odd. Will have to add more warmth next time. * Brown hues and simplicity of the scheme helped. * Really enjoying doing townsfolk because of the limited details I need to get into. * Hair felt much better this time. Going with a dark brown, up to a mid brown, then highlight in the ridge of the hairline. * @Inarah I used your method on rope on his belt. Worked! Opporunity: * Playing with flesh tones and how to raise the contrast is very difficult for me. Without making it look...fake. I keep trying to find easier ways to do it, but I think it's just gotta invest to get the best results. * Cape volumes didn't really pop. I was hoping for more depth in the contrast, but it didn't show through and I wasn't willing to push it further after a few failed attempts. * Painting with bone white or ivory continue to plague me. Multiple layers needed because of the chalky pigment density. Anyone got a solve for this? For a base, I'm thinking of including some kind of cross or something behind him. We'll see. I found some pretty nifty little wood engraved sets at Dollar Tree (loving that place more and more these days) that will work perfect. Speaking of which, I have a demon hunter I haven't based yet, that could use one of those, too. Hm...
  13. A try at a new skin tone... still a bit too caucasian. She's ready to intercept the party though...
  14. Well, the construct has a rather large base, so I added a monk, so this is really a 2 for 1 offer. The monk and the construct are both leftovers from other projects. When I saw them on my shelf of "to do", I suddenly got the feeling that they belonged together, don't really know why. There was just this connection between them. So I made them meet on this base. Are they greeting each other? Banishing each other? Is this a planned meeting or does it happen by chance? Friends, rivals or enemies? All that really is for you to decide, I see something different in them every time. I tried to bring them together by using the same colours on both of them. The writing in the scroll and the wooden cross of the monk use the same paint (vallejo wookgrain), the goggles of the construct have the same colour scheme as the cross the monk has around his neck... Also, this is the first horse I painted. Was really fun, actually! C&c very welcome! And here's more: Enjoy!

  16. Hello everyone, here are pictures of a model that had been waiting 34 years before being painted, Ral Partha 02-333 Acrobatic Thief sculpted by Julie Guthrie. "Thanks to @Thoramel, for providing me with the model info.
  17. Hi folks! Today I started painting #03836 "Jakob Janssen, Monk" for our friend Jakob. Sending him some good vibes during this time and excited to finish this and ship it his way! I started with skintones and I'm currently working on painting him with a big ol' George Clooney smile I want to finalize my color scheme but I'm really struggling! Many great painters have already posted photos of their version of this mini and I want to do something different than what's already been done. Here are the three I'm considering: The traditional Shaolin monk color scheme Iron Fist (Marvel) color scheme? (green & yellow) Halfling Monk (Pathfinder) color scheme? (green, red/orange, yellow with freehand insanity) Others?? HALP! The more options I research, the less decisive I get. Going to check back in tonight to see what folks think since I'll need to decide before my livestream tomorrow morning. At the end of the day, no matter what color scheme I choose, I'll do my absolute best to make sure it's something that will hopefully bring @JakobJanssen some creative joy I'll check back in soon. Thanks in advance for your thoughts & suggestions!! --Mocha
  18. Jakob asked me to paint one of his models for his collection, and this is what I came up with. I wanted to give him a tattoo, and I chose a Cherry Blossom Tree. I loved painting this model.
  19. Another delightful sculpt from Oathsworn Sensible Shoes line, the Tabaxi Monk/Mage/Bard (SS38). Had some trouble settling on the color scheme, so she sat half painted for quite a while.
  20. "Bliss" Needed a civilian type for a game, and this was the best I find in my lead mountain. Dunno why, but I keep seeing him as one of those beer-making monks carrying a keg on his back. So I painted him as one who just "sampled" the merchandise and really liked the sample. The nose and cheeks were more "ruddy" IRL but doesn't show up well in the pictures. There is a lightish line at the top of the belly where I tried to repair the paint job after accidently flicking some dark wash on it. The line isn't really visible IRL but clearly seen in the pictures. Thanks for looking. *Edit And if something looked odd with my montage, it's because the second picture got flipped when I was joining the four of them together. Just noticed this.
  21. Once again my buddy with the minotaur character fixation asked me to find a minotaur for him that I can convert into a monk. Given that most are armed and armored ... I understood his dilemma. Thrym's Table presents: Spellcrow Minotaur as Minotaur Monk Original marketing image; copyright Spellcrow Miniatures. The first things that had to go were the axes. The hands were attached to axes on a separate sprue and made it easy to remove them. Next I drilled out the old handle and cleaned up the pins to the wrists. Fairly easy so far. I did it during game night while playing Talisman. I was the Sprite. Next I pared back the horns to create a pin and to create a better profile. The stock horns seemed a bit out of proportion to him. When I got home my original plan was to place pieces of mini cable ties to create a Karnak look for his fists. The cable tie I started with worked to a point but wouldn't lay flat enough to his hand. So time for idea #2, wire. As you can see, Karnak has bands around his hands. That worked well. That gave me the idea for a necklace or medallion swinging away from him. Here he is... Enjoy and stay tuned.
  22. The rest of my Kickstarter for AEG's Thunderstone Quest came in. This was for an expansion that changed the player count from 2-4 to 1-6 as well as adding a cooperative mode. I'm not sure I'd want to play this game at 6 players unless it is cooperative because there is a lot of downtime when its not your turn. In cooperative mode, it seems that everyone goes at the same time, so that probably reduces down time. I didn't realize it at the time, but the expansion ALSO comes with two minis (6 were included in the base game so it wasn't strictly necessary). I also didn't realize that the monk had a mark on her forehead that I THINK is intentional (these aren't the best minis, as you can see from the crease down her back). I would have painted her a lighter skin tone so the mark would stand out better if I realized that earlier. I chose green for her since a nice yellow/orange color was already taken by one of the other minis I painted for this game and I wanted unique player colors. Likewise, I chose white for the crusader because all the good colors were taken and I could see him as a paladin type. Hopefully I don't get any more minis for this game because I'm running out of unique player colors.
  23. This is an Oathsworn Female Monk I took from a BOGW. She is part of my project: Nippon, Land of the Rising Moon and this Mariko in her human form. WIP here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/79416-nippon-land-of-the-rising-moon-by-glitterwolf/&page=6
