  1. The blending of green and yellow was challenging on this mini. I added some plastic tiles on the ground to create a ruined dungeon atmosphere. It was sculpted by Gene Van Horne.
  2. I needed another large monster for my Lost World Project. WIP and Stories here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/69308-lost-world-project-xherman1964-paints-coldblooded-creatures-and-conquistadores/ This time I painted the Ral Partha T-Rex. Based her on a resin Jungle base from Micro Art Studios, it has some nice touches like a conquistadore's skull, frogs and a lizard. I named her Trixy. Hope you like her:
  3. Greetings! I've had this Reaper Bones Hydra (77191) sitting around for quite a while now, waiting for me to pluck up the will & time to paint it. I'm quite a slow painter by nature & I had set myself a rule that where all my present & future Bones minis are concerned, I wasn't going to worry about removing mould lines (I love Bones but I find this particular job is a nightmare!) or going into too much painting detail but this all fell by the wayside in the end! Anyway, here it is. Following the Hydra's mythology, I've gone with aquatic colours, the base was created using Basius's Dungeon base stamp, I made a point of putting one foot lower on the steps as the front legs were a bit uneven (even after the hot & cold water torture method!). Comments & critiques are always welcome, thanks for looking!
  4. I created this monster from a mix of bones (eyebeast, mockingbeast, harpy, nightspectre, ape demon, bed,) hands from the kingdom death phoenix, sculpey, green stuff and plasticard. I have a WIP here. This was a great deal of fun to sculpt and involved a lot of scary background music to get me in the mood. As a kid, I had an overactive imagination, so I can completely empathize with the kid under the blankets. I even tried to fool the monster under my bed once by dropping a pillow off the back of the bed while I made a flying leap for the lightswitch by the door! Enjoy!! C&C always welcome, and I'm happy to answer any questions. I'll be bringing this fellow with me to Reapercon, so feel free to come pick him up and look closer! Also, if there's anything that doesn't look right, let me know- I still have time to fiddle with it.
  5. Okay, here we go. I have this lovely Warpwolf Stalker, which I painted a while ago. I have, since I leveled up a bit, revisited the stalker. Here is the original picture: Here is the current front view (and other views) I'm really happy with the extension of what I have done with him, and I'm much happier with the figure as a whole. Any C&C is welcome, but I think I improved significantly from the initial painting to the reworking I've done on this one. C&C is welcome on this one.
  6. This weekend I finished up the Griffon figure from the Bones 1 Kickstarter. As some of you may know, I have been chronicling the painting of all the figures I received from the Bones 1 Kickstarter on my All Bones About It Blog. Well, completing the Griffon puts me on the threshold of the final ten figures of this endeavor. The Griffon being done, figure 256 of 266 figures, leaves just 10 figures left for me to paint. I was hoping I could get done by the time Bones 3 arrives, and with the delay in shipping it looks like a real possibility. For the full Griffon step-by-step painting article, please see: Griffon
  7. I've got my copy of Kingdom Death: Monster with me here at the con. If anyone is interested in trying it out, I'd be glad to run it over at the board game tables. ~v
  8. Greetings! I've just finished this Ral Partha oldie from my collection - ES54 Winged Panther. I went for a naturalistic black panther look but with a bluish sheen to the highlights (a bit like you sometimes see in movies as they're prowling through the jungle!). The wing skin recesses are actually a really dark red/brown but you can't exactly see it on these pics. Interestingly, the blue highlights seemed a lot bluer after I added the static grass to the base. Thanks for looking!
  9. Schmetterling WIP Two steps visible here. Original base coats of color with some shading and then working up with more highlights and finer details. I need to use a dedicated camera and lighting setup. Pretty sure my iphone camera has damage to the lens and the poor lighting is obscuring details. Sorry about that.
  10. Hey guys been away for a while painting the mighty Khanjira!! What a great model to add to my ever growing Dungeons and Dragons campaign! I decided to give Khanjira a ghostly haunting look! As always comments are wanted and appreciated! Just to note instead of doing boring stonework for the base I opted for trying out Jade! Let me know if you think it works!
  11. Finished the last model in my Tyranid army for now. All hail the King and Queen. :)
  12. The Mocking Beast from Reaper Bones. A really, really cool sculpt!
  13. I spotted this big dragon/dino thing on a blog page. Can anyone ID the maker or source? I would like to find one. The blogger said he found it at a garden store. Spoilered for huge 1600x1280 picture.
  14. I've been looking to do a WIP for a while now but couldn't quite think what to do. So, after going through my collection of oldies, I decided to give this a crack: This was an old set of D&D Dungeon Adventurers by Citadel Miniatures & contained 8 character class minis plus a treasure chest. I started painting these many, many, many years ago but didn't get very far & never quite finished, as this pic shows....... also, whilst rummaging through my oldies, I found the partner set: which contains these D&D Monsters: and they go together, so I guess I'll have to do them all...... I am a very slow methodical painter & speed painting is unknown to me so if you're interested in following this to see how it ends, you may want to prepare yourself for a long haul! Comments are always welcome, many thanks!
  15. I painted this around 9 months to a year ago and am just now getting up the courage to start posting some of my minis. This one I'm pretty proud of. My photography skills on the other hand could use some work.
  16. Latest addition to the family. Still waiting for my 60mm bases.:
  17. I ordered the Mars attacks game the other day and got it this morning I couldn't resist painting this model I really hope you guys like it I have a few more models to list this week as I paint most days! So here he is Flea Rider!!
  18. You scroll far enough back into Reapers vaults and there are still some amazing finds. Bakarathi were a race of demons / aliens or undead? Unique to reaper. This thing hunted them I guess. It was released back in 2005. anyone know anything else about it? It looks way better than they did. I painted it up as some kind of plant based ogre, a reaction by the natural world against invasions. It was supposed to be usable in Frosthaven games, but I am not sure if it can be, maybe a wandering encounter? I sent this off to wolfie907, and confirmed that he got it yesterday. I loved painting the outsize claws, and the little nubbins are supposed to be cut tree limbs- but painting the concentric rings proved a pipe dream.
  19. Where to begin... I bought an airbrush to paint this guy, I base coated the base but when I went to base coat the monster the air gun was clogged. I cleaned it, still didn't work. I took it apart and cleaned it, still didn't work. It will only spray water and occasionally a glob of paint. I thinned my paints, I cleaned the thing a million times. Still doesn't work!. So I have up for a while. Finally I decided to just paint it by hand. What a paint THAT was! Just trying to hold this guy constantly takes paint off I already put on. GRRRR. Anyway, I check the internet to see how other people painted this guy, pretty impressive stuff out there. I didn't see any snow tarrasques so that's what I went for. Good thing too because any Bones white showing through goes unnoticed.
  20. Over the last 6 months, I've been working on a lengthy project to get a couple of old classic Citadel official D&D mini sets from the 1980's painted up & now, I've finally finished! Thanks to all who viewed, commented, encouraged & supported me along the way. The WIP can be found here. There's two sets, one of Dungeon Adventurers & one of Dungeon Monsters, here's the pics: Encounter shot: Adventurers group shot: Monsters group shot: Elf, Dwarf & Elf: Magic-User, Treasure Chest & Cleric: Unarmoured Fighter, Thief & Fighter: Giant Rats, Stirge & Giant Fire Beetles: Kobold, Giant Toad & Orc: Bugbear, Skeleton & Gnoll: Thanks for looking!
  21. Got this guy painted up last night. Gonna be tossing out one or two of these guys in my game Friday night. Slowly but surely I'll be using mostly Reaper minis for D&D rather than the prepainted WotC stuff.
  22. This is the Bones owlbear. I was pretty happy with the way it turned out, although I think I would lighten the 'owl' portions a bit if I were to paint another.
  23. This is another fishy Tiik monster, this one Reaper's 77212, Tiik Baron. He was part of my year-end Conga Line of Finishing Up Half-Done Minis. There is an old WIP here. I was never quite able to make out what the thing on his left gills I painted red was. I think it might be a hermit crab in a shell. Earlier cousin Tiik figures here and here.
  24. I honestly can't remember where I got this, or who made it, so if you know please let me know. This is a quick speed paint/experiment. Other than primer, I did the whole thing with a succession of different washes, inks, and a little bit of drybrushing until it looked sufficiently grungy and disgusting. I think it took me about 2 hours all together. C&C is always welcome.
  25. I ended up with two of this fellow, and I wanted to make each distinct, so I did a little work on them before the painting started. On one I trimmed some of the spikes off of his shield (which now looks like it would make a great offhand weapon!) For the other I trimmed most of the spikes off of his club, then carved some simple wood grain into it. It wasn't a major conversion, but it was enough to give them each a different look.
