Hello everyone, some more cuteness to start the week. It's harvest time, here is the second 03536, Thanksgiving Mousling sculpted by Gene Van Horne.

Doing a little painting to give a gifts. I'll be basing these little babies next, then putting them in a globe. It'll be a fun xmas gift to give family. May end up turning it into an annual if it's enjoyed. Next up... basing.

@Guildensternwas my assigned recipient for the Summer paint exchange. She likes CAV and 40k and all these things I don't know anything about! I thought @robinh had made a mistake in his assignments until I saw that she likes mouseling! Ok, mouselings are something I like to paint. I went to my stash of mouselings. Yes, I have a stash of mouselings. Doesn't everyone? I hadn't ever painted the prince snd princess before so decided I would paint them. I have no idea where the idea to turn a toilet paper roll and Tropicana lids into a tower came from but there it was, the idea for Ratpunzel was born. It was fun to make, paint, and put all the flowers on. So, without further ado.... Ratpunzel! Ratpunzel! Let down your tail!

Not the best pictures, but Warlady asked me about the sizes of various anthropomorphic animals, because I've been working on Burrows and Badgers. Here's a Reaper mousling with an Oathsworn mouse. The Oathsworn is a little chunky, but the mousling is even more exaggerated. I'm not sure that I'd mix them. They are similar in height, though. I have two Darksword Critter Kingdom figures. This hedgehog bard is also exaggerated compared to the Oathsworn, but possibly in a reasonable range for size. My other Darksword figure is a penguin rogue, so I know he won't fit in. All of the Darksword figures are approximately the same size, so if you can live with the mix of styles, it looks like B&B "medium" sized beasts (e.g. hedgehogs, squirrels, weasels) would be the best bet for compatibility. If anyone else has additional pictures, please post!

At the school where I work, the librarian has been most accommodating towards my kids' fantasy gaming and interest in fantasy topics. Furthermore, said librarian is a bit of a closet fantasy fan herself, actually having sat in on a few gaming sessions with the kids, and provided resources, and so on. I wanted to do something nice for her for the end of the school year, and I find that a neat little surprise does wonders for anyone's attitude of a Monday morning... particularly a Monday in which one is looking at the horrible grind of that Last Week Of School With Kids. So I whipped up a little thank you surprise. One begins with a stock Mouseling, painted, a little cakestand display I got when the craft joint clearanced 'em after Christmas, a wooden disc for a base, some simple basing materials, and a pewter charm. She Who Dances With Mouselings is into beading, and happened to see this little sign among the beads and charms at another hobby crafting place, and promptly said, "You're buying this. Or rather, I'm buying this. You can do something with this." The charm is as shown; all I did was paint it. You see before you perhaps twenty minutes' work, not counting the time it took to paint the mouseling. So She Who Dances With Mouselings looks upon it and says, "I WANT ONE OF THOSE! We're going back to the craft store and get ALL those little signs! There was one about kissing frogs; that'd go with the Princess mouseling, right? And what other ones were there...?" So I guess I'll have to start work on another one next weekend...

I had paint day today and wanted to paint something I could finish pretty quickly since I will be leaving for vacation. I chose the mouseling sorcerer. Had some fun with him! Here is Dumble Doormouse!

I need a warrior mouseling for.... secret things. It needs to be a male mouseling, with a breast plate. Does such a mouseling exist? Does it exist in bones? If not, what is the closest we have? I only found the old metal sword and board warrior mouseling wearing a full helmet. But I do not see it in bones.

Painted this mouseling to look like a plague-ey themed sneaky rat for my girlfriend's PC. I was just told to 'not make it too digusting' and I gave myself a hour to paint. So... it is sort of a speedpaint. A small, but adorable, intermezzo with my other painting projects. Find the original 77287: Mouseling Assassin behind the link. Remember mouselings are small! That's a 20mm base. ... Gawd cameras are confronting.

A friend and I alternate DMing every other weekend. (Two different games.) He has a recurring NPC named Wan Pau who has been described as a ratkin who is a wise, old, mysterious man (ratman) who is the head of a powerful Cathayan family. (Cathay is basically China.) I painted up this little mouseling as Wan Pau. He is too cute to be a ratkin but, oh well! I wanted him to look like he is getting a little white around the muzzle and some salt and pepper streaks in his hair. His tail wasn't well formed and actually I didn't know it was there until I painted base and you could barely see an outline where it should be. I told my friend I could fix it but he liked it without. He said Wan Pau was too dignified to have his tail waving out in the open for everyone to see! Ha! I tried a little freehand on the back of his robe. It didn't turn exactly as I had hoped but I also didn't think it was too bad! I am the most proud of his cute little face!

I had never painted a mousling before, but when my partner requested them I decided immediately to pair one with a Mice&Mystics figure (I have the minis but not the game. ) The archer looked like a good match, and I was thinking of some kind of duel, but didin't realize how small the mouslings are. So when they came I thought there is no way they would be fighting. So the family archery lesson was born. First I made and archery butt but that didn't look as good as I hoped. So I kept working on the meadow. One morning I woke up with the idea of shooting at a Micky Mouse wanted poster on a tree. But then I had to sculpt my first tree, and a poster. The tree was easier than I had feared and sculpting was done by the end of the day. I did an index card with 4 tiny posters to practice the writing. I have a picture of it somewhere... and with that the second title: "That doesn't look like you at all." the family: I cut the arrows out of the boys quiver and made a few extras with green stuff and scattered them as missed shots. The scale isn't perfect. This picture was taken before adding greenery branches or mom's arrow to the tree. Both me and the mosuling need more practice.

I had no intention of completing another mini (let alone a mouseling) this week. I just started working on her, and laughing, and giggling, and well. She got finished. I had a base in a baggie that I thought I would never have a use for, and well, I did ! So here we have Lara Kraft, Adventuress by G. Van Horne. I have the picture of her in my mind breaking into a lair of bad guys, jumping onto the pillar at the top of a staircase, and taking them all on ! I thought the gym outfit would fit her spontaneous spirit. Your comments/ and criticism is great appreciated. Do leave me a comment, I love getting your input.

My son got the board game Mice & Mystics from Santa this year. I just finished painting the mice characters (6 of them). I have not painted the minions (centipede, rats, roaches, spider) yet. I like how they turned out as a set, though the last mouse was a little rushed, because I wanted to finish in time for his Mice & Mystics themed Birthday party. Can you figure out which one was rushed? (Hint: it's not the last in line). Here's a photo of my son playing with his friends:

I have a three year old little girl (she'll soon be four) and she has a good imagination. Naturally, we'd like to steer this in the right direction, so I've been GMing once a week with my family. Right now it is just a homebrew system that we're keeping quite simple. We'll be moving up as we go. Our first hero is Drella. Her character class is definitely Princess, and while her normal tactic is to use either Scorching Ray or Magic Missile, she also tends to pull a sword out of hammer space when things get rough. And this is Ella, my wife's spellcaster. She's very helpful on adventures Last is Prince McGuffin. He mostly gets kidnapped by ogres, sorcerers, dragons and such. Our heroes have noted his aptitude for being captured, and have started keeping him from going out by himself for any reason. Last time our heroes sallied forth, they started out by locking him in a closet until they come back. I expected this campaign to mostly feel standard (we kill the monsters, save the prince and everyone is happy). But then my little girl realized that some of the monsters can talk- and if they can talk, they can be talked into doing things for them. My favorite was when they convinced an ogre that the dragon would be tastier than eating them, so he came along (all the time threatening to become too bored or hungry and start eating the party). Here are the three of them together.

This is the mouseling assassin that goes with the mouseling thief I painted earlier. I didn't want to go with a plain black cloak. I wanted it to look like red velvet. It does not look like red velvet but I like it anyway. He is a little albino mouse with beady little red eyes. His base is warped a bit and he doesn't want to stand straight so he will be glued to another base.

When I went to paint day the other day, I didn't want to take any of the minis I need to do for my campaign because I paint with my gaming friends and don't want them to know what to expect. So, I decided to paint some mouselings. They are so cute! These are the first two I have done of the Bones II mouselings. I picked the female archer and the little thief. I borrowed from Pingo when doing the little thief and had his dagger be a rose thorn. Is it appropriate that I "stole" her idea while doing the thief? Ha! Hope you don't mind, Pingo. It was such a clever idea and I thought it was adorable!

I have painted up a half dozen of the Mouslings from the Bones II Kickstarter for characters in a game with lots of odd races. Gene Van Horne offered a great class a few years back at Reapercon on how to sculpt mouselings. I took the class, and was pleasantly surprised at my own extremely marginal competence. I wound up giving the figure in question to my girlfriend, who proudly put it on her desk in her office (she's been acquiring mouselings all the while). I hadn't actually visited her office in quite some time, and was surprised to see it was still there. Still the best thing I've ever sculpted, with the possible exception of the life sized unicorn turd... He was originally intended to be standing on a beach, with piratey flag and treasure chest. And now that I look at the picture, it looks to me for all the world like he's trying to bury his treasure in an open faced peanut butter sandwich... I WAS gonna take it back and apply everything I've learned about basing in recent years, but Berni wouldn't hear of it... He wasn't originally intended to have a mustache. There was a leftover bit of greenstuff, and I fashioned it for him at the last minute. One of a kind!

Here my mouseling I refer to as The Red Rogue (aka Mouseling Assassin). I felt the idea that this is a rascal not an assassin. So I went with a darker red that would never really be able to hide in shadows well, because he never really wants to hide. I had this guy finished for several months, except for the blade. I finally just decided to suck it up and finish this little guy tonight. The photo's are not the best, I think I'll spend some more time tommorrow to get some better shots. This was my first diorama, and I think it's time to call it done. Mostly, because the wife said so and took it to work for her desk. A little ambush scene with mouselings. The rest of the story you can fill in for yourself I think... Fun to paint, took my time, and painted the mouselings over about 2 months, and did the base in bits and pieces, finishing it up in a final push over the past few weeks in a WIP thread. First pics are of the whole thing, then individual mouselings at the end. Thanks for looking, and thanks for the help in the WIP thread! Sadly, a couple of blurry pics in there. Oh well, the wife is happy with it. That's what counts.

Just a work in progress thread for some mouselings. Aren't they cute? I started on the princess, Because I was kind of in the mood to paint a dress. I went with a split red/gold color scheme with a little bit of dark blue for the hair and ghost white for the under skirt. My thinking had been "Spanish princess" in part because I too frequently fall back on pink/purple/blue colors for anything in a fancy dress. Still needs a little more lining on the edges of the dress and some more yellow highlights on the gold section. Probably could use a little more shading on the fur, which is gingerbread cookie/stained olive. So far these are really fun to paint.

Nissiana and I are quite happy to have picked up a commission, and even more excited to share it with y'all! These are the gamepieces for the Mice & Mystics base game and the first expansion. I'm sad I've never had the chance to play, but I'm fairly certain I can remedy that the next time we host a board game night. And I'll eventually want to buy a set for us, because these minis are great! The minis themselves are a soft plastic similar to Bonesium, but cast in a tan color. There were a few mold lines and injection points that needed a little cleanup, but really these are pretty high quality casts. The extent of prep was trim a bit of flash (super simple with a scalpel, just like Bones), wash in some dishsoapy water, and prime. Nice sculpts, too, with good detail and a lot of character. The aesthetic is a good bit more "realistic" (realism being relative, we're talking anthropomorphic rodents, after all) than Reaper's mouselings, but I still think the mice are totes adorbs, as the kids say. And the villains, a host of creepy-crawlies and less savory rodents, are sufficiently menacing. But enough yammer. Photos! The bunch primed up: Various scalawags and neer-do-wells: Rats: A spider, a centipede, an ant-warlock and a slew of roaches: I'll be painting all the arthropods. I'm actually really looking forward to the cockroaches, believe it or not. And a group shot of the Heroes: Nissiana will be painting up the rodents. You can see she's already got a good start on several of them; I'll let her talk about that once she gets home from rehearsal tonight (or tomorrow during the day sometime). We'll be painting these to a "tabletop" standard; the end result should be easy to differentiate on the table and attractive in the hand, but we don't hope to win any Sophie Trophies with the lot.
