Cookie has had a tougher life than Butler. She was a slave in the Fire Giant kitchens before clobbering one of her masters over the head with her frying pan and escaping when a group of adventurers invaded. Her son Hunter often hangs out in the filthy kitchen to visit and flirt with the maids. Ziggy his favourite mountain lion likes to chase the "Mittles" sentient multi-coloured mushrooms that infest the kitchen of the steading.(Several years ago Cookie was making her infamous horse meat and mushroom stew...and accidentally stirred it with the pointy twirly bit from the head of the 'horse'...In the ensuing rainbow explosion while the Giants watched the unicorn escape the first Mittles jumped out of the upset cauldron. Cookie has become quite fond of the nippy nuisances and refuses to let anyone "taste the rainbow"

These were a fun little summer paint job. I tried to show the mushrooms in their three stages of development, from young to mature.

Presenting the 'Shroomancer, part of the Gooblapalooza set from Games Workshop who are all Goblin Wizards with different powers. This one alters the reality around him by getting really high on mushrooms, considering his "creations" appear to be attacking him this doesn't seem to be the most reliable of powers. Really pleased with how this one turned out, I think the super cartoony sculpt just gelled well with the way I paint. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.

Have you ever thought to yourself, "If only I could make this mini temporarily huge, I could really go to town on the details, blending, etc..." Because this line of thought is about to get me into trouble. I've seen quite a few examples of kickelf busts done here, and seeing the sunbleached and sorry state of some Garden Gnomes I found last year in a forgotten tote bin, ideas began to ferment. Also I've been playing more Mordheim than is probably healthy on the PS4 which led to dreams of Gnome Witch Hunters purging the lawn of weeds and heresy. Which then led to various other forms of madness that can be expressed in a lawn setting.... but for now let us begin with Gnomes and Mushrooms. Partial basecoating done with some ancient craft paints, as I'm somewhat intimidated by the sheer amount of surface area I'm dealing with, and the fact that my skintone blending is not something I feel is paticularly strong as of now. The plan is to have his shirt come back up to white, and his overalls will also be black. The shoes as well, maybe. Beard and hair will likely be blonde. His walking stick might be converted to an axe once I find my hobby saw and get a pattern traced on some balsa wood. Overall, the vision is of Puritan/Amish village mob. I've already coated the stems in beige spraypaint, and I'm thinking to paint the caps in an orange/red with white in the holes. I'm tempted to try sculpting some Malefaction faces on them, but seeing as how I've never sculpted anything before I figure it's best to get used to painting the absurdly large first. (As I type this I hear the voice of future me muttering something about how the sculpting is inevitable and something about moldmaking. He's suspiciously silent when I ask back concerning winning lotto numbers...)

My girl and me like to hike, stroll, walk... We often follow trails that lead through rural areas, nature, forest or historical sites. I would like to share a few pics, so I can show you what the Netherlands look like aside from the big cities and harbour. Yes...we do have tulips and windmills...but not everywhere. I hope you guys and girls and creatures like it. These were made today, due to Liberation Day I had the day off ( not everyone has a free day but the Military does). An Anthill, A Windmill and Tulips, some nice mushrooms attached to a tree and a statue of BACON.

I was browsing Kickstarter and saw this. It reminded me of @malefactus. Good mushroom people, reasonable cost.

Dollar Tree Fairy Garden Finds
Chris Palmer posted a topic in Conversions, Presentation, and Terrain
I was in my local Dollar Tree over the weekend, and noticed they too had jumped on the Fairy Garden bandwagon. The have an assortment of blister-carded figures, of which this set of mushrooms seemed the most useful. There was also an assortment of poorly sculpted fairies, and another assortment of cartoonish animals. They also have a selection of buildings, like the twig and leaf gazebo above, and those shown below. As is typical, they are a little soft on detail, but may be spruced up a bit with paint. I may go back and get one of those mushroom houses to see if I can improve it a bit with a proper paint job. They also had an assortment of artificial succulents that would make good judge foliage.- 23 replies

I was heavily inspired with Malefactus work and I wanted to paint a Goblin old style and sculpt / add some mushrooms. The Goblin is from Metal Magic ( now OOP). The Mushrooms , some are sculpted ( the larger and the round ones) and the pointy ones are Resin from Ristul's Market. My WIP for those interested. http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/66981-goblin-with-mushrooms-metal-magic-by-xherman1964/?hl=bagpipe The little guy has just consumed some mushrooms for inspiration on his latest musical creation. I wonder if the other Goblins will like his music. Without further ado, the pics.

Finally got back to doing conventions this weekend, with CelestiCon in Fremont, CA. Here's a glimpse at some stuff we had on the table. Most of what we had this weekend was scratch-built, or kit-scratched, which is I guess what you would call it when you borrow one piece from a model (like a GW crater) and scratch build on top of it. Not quite a kitbash. But anyway, most of it was just made by hand.

Finally got this one off my 'shelf of shame'. Pretty pleased with him overall, could've used a little more metallics on his rusty spearhead though. Any comments and criticisms are, as always most appreciated.

VIGNETTE TITLE...The Mushroom Garden of Fae FIGURE...Reaper Nymph # 02741 (Set)... NOTE...I just finished this vignette piece for my wife as an anniversary gift (our 45th) for her china cabinet. Except for the miniature figure; the entire vignette is scratch built. Since it is a display piece for my wife...the vignette was finished in a high gloss protective spray...the wooden base was sprayed with Minwax High Gloss Polycrylic Spray (used to protect wood)...and the scene was sprayed with Duncan High Gloss Ceramic Spray (used for porcelain figurines). The miniature was painted as a blue Sylph (an enchantress creature/character akin to the Dryad & Selkie)...and this is her enchanted mushroom garden. I did not add the pixies, nixies and sprites that usually surround her nor the will-o-the-wisps that are usually found in her area...I wanted to keep the vignette simple. I hope the true natural enchantment fantasy buffs out there like this piece...it gave me a warm loving feeling building this little piece.

A few years ago...someone gave me a plastic bag that contained (32) odd/varied shaped terrain pieces that were made out of a foam type of material with the brown sides & green turf tops...made in varied sizes that average about (3"x3" to 4"x4")...(do not know who made them)...I finally came up with the idea of using them for basic simple terrain of the kind that I wanted. This is how I used these pieces: 1. These are the (4) main components that will be mounted on a ceiling tile master base and built up into a piece that will be called the (mushroom dale)...it will be a piece of about (24"x14"). All the mushrooms are hand made out of green stuff putty...the tree trunks are all metal cast (don't know the company who made them). 2. These are (4) of (12) flower & plant terrain pieces that are used at random on my tabletop game board (8'x4')...with a dark green felt covering. I use a lot of the concept in my fantasy world of (giant flowers & plants)...like the movies (HONEY I SHRUNK THE KIDS & MYSTERY ISLAND)...Now I can have giant bees, ants, wasps, butterflys and praying mantis insects. 3. This is a " phase gate "...it is a simple arch that has a blueish grey mist...you can't see through or into it...it can lead anywhere...once you step into the mist and go through...you can not return because after you step through it (on your side...it vanishes)...you have to find a (2nd such gate) to return through.
