I just got into mini painting about nine months ago, and since then I have thoroughly enjoyed it. So much more than I ever thought I would. During the summer I came across a couple of images of a fire giant that made me really want to see it at my own table. It was these two images that solidified my love for this hobby. It was there that I was introduced to Reaper Mini, I promptly submitted an order for two of these bodyguards(and about ten others) and I have not looked back. Over the last 5 months I have ordered about $300 of minis. It is becoming a costly addiction that I can't say no to. In all that time only one mini had problems, and after one short email, I had a replacement on its way. And then for today, my wife got me my biggest order yet, and it came with a bag of paints. A literal bag of paints, all of which I didn't have any of the colours. So for the quick response to my problems, the amazing looking models, and of course all the freebies, I just want to say, "Thank you Reaper Mini!". I just wish I had learned about this Kickstarter thing before it stopped taking orders, I want that new fire giant!

Hello I recently got into painting miniatures and I found I LOVE it! I play three different tabletop RPGs and I desperately needed mini's and that's how I got into it. It's my new favorite hobby and I wanted to join the community to get some feedback and help to make these better and to learn different methods and new techniques. I'll be posting the very small handful I did on the forums (again super noobie, but please critique so I can learn!!!!). Thanks everyone!

Hey everyone! Brand new to the hobby, been painting for a few weeks now and loving every minute of it (except for those stressful parts). I got the LTP Kit and think it was the perfect way to be introduced to mini painting. If there are any lurkers out there reading this and thinking about taking the plunge I highly recommend picking up the kit. Anyways, I still have a ways to go to match up with some of the amazing stuff I've been seeing here on the forums, but I'm really excited to keep painting and hone my skills. I took some photos of my first four minis and was really proud of them and wanted to show them off. I'm working towards painting my D&D party up. We play over video conference so they probably won't make any tables, but I thought it would be a fun thing to have on the desk. Hope you enjoy and as always C&C is very welcome. First one was the Skeleton Archer from the LTP Kit. He came out of the kit doing a bit of a Neo lean... I tried he hot water trick but it didn't stick, so I propped him up with putty. Big time learning experience, but I think he turned out okay. I had the most trouble with the quiver, but it ended up being my favorite part in the end: Next up was a Skeleton Warrior. The second time around I thought I got a smoother looking bone color. I had the idea to paint the blue stripe on the spear to tie him in with the archer. I think it worked: The third I painted was a mummy (undead theme anyone?). He was pretty monotone, so I tried to mix it up a little with some dried blood and creepy glowing blue eyes: Finally, I jumped to the LTP Kit and painted the Orc Marauder. I tried to ignore most of the color instructions and mix up my own colors to test myself a bit. I'm really proud of him! I'm beginning to realize that the details make the mini, so I added some small touches like rusted chainmail and fingernails. I was brave enough to paint the teeth, but chickened out a little on the eyes. I personally think the black eyes look better on this model anyways. I think if I googly-eyed him right at the end it would have crushed me: Thanks again for checking out my post and for all the inspiration and tips I found reading the forums. Hi there everyone! Oakydeer here, and I'm a very very new to the world of tabletop RPGS. I'd always heard of the magical game dungeons and dragons but was always intimidated by it and didn't know when or how to start. But a month ago, I decided to take the plunge and gather my friends for our first DnD session, with me as the DM. And... we all became obsessed. So now, here I am, completelly engrossed in the world of tabletop RPGs and eager to start sculpting and painting my own figures! I'm open to any advice from any of you wonderful veterans regarding anything, be it painting and sculpting, to game tips, to a simple friendly hello. Let's be friends! :>

hi people just thought i would up load all my work done in the last three months as i have been learning to paint. i know my flames are wrong but other then that any other critique and comments or tips will be greatly accepted this was my first as linked in my original post and now i shall post them in order of when i did them this one is gonna be used in a monstrous campaign i am playing in this next one still needs work painted for freind under work atm painted for a freind and my latest completed work :) now i'm just trying to decide which piece i should finish next after i complete my alchemist and orc warboss

Hello! I'm Ravenscroft! I've been sitting on these Bones minis for quite a while now and finally got a round toit, so I gotta paint 'em, right? It's kinda relaxing, being able to focus and see as colour fills gaps... Even if apparently I need to go back to kindergarden since I can't paint in the lines sometimes. Either way! WIP! My first mini painting attempt! I've watched a lot of tutorials and read a bunch of stuff on how I should set up my workstation and whatnot. I use a wet palette made from a blister pack, water, a kitchen sponge, and parchment paper on top. I have gater clips to hold the mini so it won't smudge. Most tutorials suggest starting with a big mini, so details aren't as much a worry. Well, I've got Kaladrax! ...But he's too big, methinks, so I went with a golem of fairly big Medium size instead. Lots of the same colour, fairly simple pose, no weird crevasses and corners... Ideal as a starting point, I think. My aim was to make it a smaller Iron Golem, so I went with a silver-ish paint I had (I'm not going to be mixing weird colours on my first attempt, I'm well-read, but a lot of theory is only good when you've got the practical backing it up, my hands are newbie-shakey doing this as is). ...It looks a lot nicer in-person than on cell-phone-cam... Even with the whole newbie element involved. So... Basecoat: And because that looks really plain, we've got two more colours: Ongoing advice, tips, suggestions, supportive words appreciated. ...He looks kinda like a Pro-Wrestler Golem... Kinda want to paint the bracers and hands red now, but it would be silly... ...And after typing that... You know what? It's my first mini, it's allowed to look silly. So here it is after the first base coatings, before touching up and fixing and tapping on the bits that bled paint to other bits and bits my hand smudged... Not that bad from the back for the lines, shame most folks will see the front. (Things used: 09053 Honed Steel, 09051 New Gold, 09016 Sapphire Blue, 09003 Blood Red. Start simple, right?) Things I ask for learning so far: 1) I keep hearing about colour wheels, and I know the wheel itself, but they talk about using it with some sort of triangulation to find ideal colour matches, is there a place I can find a tutorial on that, by the by? 2) Also, is there some sort of convention for the bases' colours? Leaving it blank seems unprofessional (not to mention smudgey for this one), but green may add an unnecessary colour. White? Black? 3) The kilt's blue is really matte and dark, which kind of eats the details (even if the only detail is the kilt's folds). Any tips on how to make that "pop" a bit better while still being a relatively similar/the same colour? 4) One of the paints I got in my variety pack is labelled "Brush-on Sealer"... I assume I use that on the whole thing once it's "done"? Things learned so far: Gold is really hard to overpower either silver or blue. It probably should have gone on before those colours. My red paint is a bit more liquidy than my other paints... Should keep this in mind.

Hello everyone, my brother and I have recently decided to pick up miniature painting for our Pathfinder games so we have a little more control over what our characters look like. I currently have 3 miniatures being shipped and we are also waiting for the LTPK to arrive as well. Definitely looking forward to learning the art and I've been watching videos and reading the pinned topics at the top of this page to get an idea of what to do in terms of painting. Now I have decided to post here to ask the more experienced (and by that I mean you have actually put paint to miniature unlike myself :P) what are some things you wished you had known or done before you started your first miniature. Maybe some tips or products that you didn't think about being useful then, but now you couldn't do without. Even some paints (or paint brands you might recomend to buy or stay far away from) that are really important to have in a collection (I already know about browns being useful for the obvious reason of skin and what not) Any tips or help would be greatly appreciative and I'm definitely looking forward to getting into this hobby.

Alright so a few weeks ago I posted in the Tips forum explaining how my brother and I had decided to begin painting. Well this week the first LTPK arrived and we finally got to put paint to miniature. So since I got a lot of tips from this forum I decided to do a WIP. Of course we have the soldier: And the Rat: Obvious observations include lots of flashing, mold lines and a soldier that just can't keep his sword up in the face of battle. I'll be right back with new post with the cleaned up and painted versions of the minis. I'll then post a 'lessons learned' post shortly there after.

I feel I'm up to the level that I would like to try pin some multipart minis (metal as well as bones) What do I need ? I am doing my first summer in just under 10 years so i have nothing other then paint and brushes. Any brand over another? Any suggestions or techniques would also be great
