I hadn't been looking for these two, but when they popped up on a site selling discontinued minis I couldn't pass them up. Here's our knight in rumpled armor, Jack Spade. Reminds me of a line from a book by one of my favorite authors: "...wearing a suit the color of wet concrete, and the expression of a man who has just realized the wetness is piss." I'm pleased with getting the shadow on the door here. Go poking your nose in people's business, and some people hire a plug-ugly palooka to poke back! Fortunately, Jack has Dot Kruckenberg, his girl Friday and amanuensis, to keep him out of too much trouble. Not a dame for mixing it up, but she knows how to handle herself... and how to handle her revolver. Together they...well, not exactly fight crime. But they take steps towards justice, as much as two little people can in a crummy world like this. Coupla extra pics of Crime Not Paying. I thought I had a WIP thread for her, but apparently not. I know I posted a half-done photo of her once, long ago. At any rate, here is a blast from the past and my past as well, the long-languishing Reaper 59037, Deadlands Noir Femme Fatale, sculpted by Bob Ridolfi. And because I like to play around with backgrounds:

This RAFM mini came in an assorted lot of female "modern" adventurers. Between the camera, the suit and the shoes she looked a little pre-modern, at least hardboiled detective noir era anyway. Then I primed her and thought "Holy cow, this is Lois Lane, plucky girl reporter." I mean, she isn't, not officially. Not even in a wink-and-nudge way. But by golly, that's how I think of her and that's how I'm going to paint her up. All paints used are Golden Matte Fluid Acrylics. Color mixes are (usually) noted, but not exact ratios. Questions are welcomed and I will try to answer them. Critiques are appreciated. This is the way I usually start miniature figures: Lightly primed with Titanium White, then when that is dry, washing it over with Burnt Umber. Burnt Umber is a dark, transparent pigment that settles into crannies when thinned down and shows the details very well. It also gives a nice warm undertone to later paint layers.

I finished Mr. Decker, and he's doing swell! Goals with him: Pinstripe pants. Patterned tie. Two-hue hat band. Stubble. In these regards, I think he's a success! I also experimented with different shading methods on the coat and the shirt. I think the shirt kinda came out textured, and that's okay. Only the base, coat, and hat have been sealed (adds a slightly satiny finish that I didn't want on the rest). This is also the first figure I've used a stamp for - in the future I'll be making the greenstuff stamped area thinner. This isn't quite horizontal. He'd be an excellent piece for a diorama, but he's going to a friend in Minnesota instead. Perhaps I'll paint him again in the future for one. Story for his belt: that's his homicide detective belt. When the belt matches the hat, there's been some bad broccoli around that needs his inspection. Actual reason: I wanted more contrast areas and liked it. This is a figure for a hat-friend. I did a base that wasn't just default, go me? I don't usually do that. I am going to try to give him pinstripe pants.

So, here's the mini I just received in the mail from plasticplan. The colors I asked for were (specifically) "monochrome," and the inspiration I gave was "Play it once, Sam, for old times' sake." And this is what popped out of his head (and brush): That little splash of red gives her just the right touch, I think. (I may not have gotten all the little paper towel fuzzies off of her. ) Thank you, plasticplan, and if I didn't make it clear in the PM, I her!

Since I sacrificed Max's twin to make John Wick (http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/62332-john-wick-max-decker-50051-heavily-modified-picture-heavy/), I decided I should make things right and paint up Max in his pristine state as well. Maybe he will get to be in a Savage World one-shot sometime.

This was one of several old Ral Partha Shadowrun figures I painted recently. I liked this one because he was just bizarre. He's sold as a troll bouncer. He's clearly based on classic Japanese oni, so I painted him up like one. The paint is all matte; the effects on the back of the hair are paint, not shine. Other Shadowrunners painted at the same time include: Reaper's own Caine, Cyber-Troll, a Troll woman from Wolfram's Gang, a Wolfram's gang troll with tattoos, an ork woman street samurai, a cyber troll with reflective armor, and the unbelievably over-the-top Lord Torgo.
